Fresh Farm in suburbs used to be my favorite grocery store before. Then I discovered Pete's. It was much closer to me. I quickly became a fan of Pete'e and I was not alone. I live in South Shore but I have no problems driving to this location. Neat, clean, well-stocked, good customer service. The only thing that stresses me is bagging my groceries because due to COVID-19 restrictions, they require customers to bag their own groceries. It's not a problem to do so; however, I typically have lots to bag. Good prices and quality inventory. I used to have lunch but I will not eat the buffet any longer because of COVID. But it's a great location near COSTCO so it works for me. Everyone has always been friendly and I swear each time I walk in, they cue up old school R&B music just for me! read more

This store is a gem in the Pilsen neighborhood. The outside draws you in and it continues once inside. Large, clean parking lot. The store is very clean and large as well. There are plenty of friendly workers throughout the store if you need help. The produce section is great, produce is fresh and there is a huge variety to choose from. I absolutely love the Spanish spice ISLE. I could use a lesson on how to use them properly. The meat department is quite extensive. Let's talk cheese. They have a nice cheese bar, which I haven't fully explored yet, but the real joy for us is the selection of CABOT cheeses. They carry everything and it is priced more than fairly. If you haven't had Cabot cheese, you're missing out on a great, inexpensive cheese from Vermont. On one hand, sharing this scares me as I have had a hard time finding the Habanero and the Horseradish varieties in other stores and I want it all! On the other hand, if you buy it as well, it'll remain in the stock. There are two Cabot options for cream cheese as well, priced a dollar less than Philadelphia and far better taste wise. Cabot horseradish cheese is wonderfully tasty. It's addictive if that is a flavor you enjoy. The habanero is hot!!! Besides cheese and crackers I've added it to other cheeses for mac and cheese, scalloped potatoes, salads and corn muffins. I've added it to chili and grated it on tomato soup. A little of it adds quite a nice bite. These are two of our personal favorites, but there are so many other wonderful Cabot choices and Pete's carries them. I know it sounds like I work for Cabot........ if only! You can find it in the other stores, just not the flavors and variety I am looking for and no where near the selection I found at Pete's. Can't wait to try the tomato basil as well. Sometime back my husband and I had a discussion about the old Henri's Tas-Tee dressing which stirred up a desire to have some. I have been shopping at this Petes for a while and overall happy about my experience. It's very clean and well organized and they havego price with good weekly sales. I feel the need to give a good review after today's visit, during the state-wide stay-at-home order due to covid-19. I haven't been out for 4 weeks and kind of worried about shopping hygiene, but this place is doing a great job. Every customer has to be 6 feet apart when waiting in line to get into the store , one shopper per family ( I saw couples with multiple kids trying to get in, but the staff politely tell them one person per family which is the right thing to do for all our safety). Staff will give each shopper a disinfected cart by the entrance, no personal reusable bags allowed. Inside the store, most ( if not all) staffs wear facial mask. There are signs every where telling customers to keep social distance and arrows pointing one way. All check out lines have black tapes on the floor to mark 6 feets. They are doing a great job to make it a safe and comfortable place for us to get groceries we need during a tough time. The store have a variety of fresh veggies and fruits. They also carry lot of Indian pulses, veggies and paratha which are not available in downtown stores. They carry lot of stuff in salad bar it's a must visit and it's my favourite. read more

Last night I went into this store around 6:00pm and received the worst costumer service I've ever got a grocery store. I wasn't sure about the price of seasoning I needed because it was in the wrong spot. So I asked one of their nearby employees where the price is and he said "it's right there" and I responded okay are you this is the price? He then rolled his eyes at me and said "yeah do you know how to read?". I immediately got angry and asked for his manager. Then I find out he was the store manager (his name Sonom I think) as a African American I was highly offended this man questioned my reading ability and showed my no respect for asking a simple follow up question. I highly advise no one else shops here to shop here until they get proper management that knows how to treat their costumers with respect. read more

This review has been a long time coming. Fresh. Food. Family. Fun Petes is the weekly grocery shopping trip I LOOK FORWARD TO. When I get my paycheck, I am actually happy to spend it here, knowing Pete's wont steal the whole thing. If the fruit was any riper, it would be on the tree. The vegetables literally last forever. I have celery in my fridge from a month ago. The sweet potatoes can pass for footballs. I buy my meat here also. A 5lb bag of chicken costs me around $4.From Cow Tongues to Chicken Livers, they always have it, its always fresh, and in stock. The bakery is absolutely to die for. Telera Bread, Cakes, Crepes, Cookies, Tarts, Donuts, you name it, they bake it. Check out their Guava Rolls- they are delicious. I love how they use real fruit in their sweets- (i know real fruit! Isn't that insane?) One thing that I notice, is Pete's really makes a push for "buying local" If its not local, its still made in the good ol' USA. Furthermore, their employees are well trained, and knowledgeable in what they do. Whether its helping a customer, baking a cake, or maintaining the beautiful landscaping that surrounds every store, Pete's really shines as the #1 grocery store in Chicago. read more

Over the last several months pete's has unfortunately declined in quality. They routinely sell rotting produce at a decreased price. Today i went and saw lox on sale for 4.99. Glad i checked the date bc today is 4/24 and the package expired on 4/9. When i notified the manager, he asked me to show him the food i was talking about, expressed that lettuce right now was really expensive , comes frozen so may look wilted. As for the meat that i pointed out that was about to turn, he had not much to say. This store serves a large area and has been better usually than the local jewel and at least somewhat on par with the marianos. but i dont care how clean are your floors if you are consistently selling bad food. read more

Where would I be without my Pete's Fresh Market?? The first time I drove by this location, I almost had a car wreck because I didn't believe the prices advertised on the windows. 5 avocados for $2...it couldn't be. $.88 for strawberries...get outta here! 25 limes for 1 single buck...turn the car around, I've gotta see this!! And then I went inside and found the awesomeness that is Pete's. So now I go every Sunday and stock up on my produce and meat for the week. In fact, I'd like to say that Pete's has made me healthier because I can actually afford to buy fresh produce now. I usually walk out with 3 or 4 bags and it only sets me back about $12-15. After my first visit, I enthusiastically told anyone who would listen about my 9 cent jalapeno and 20 cent squash. On my last trip, I discovered a wonderful little corner on by the front left where discounted produce is stacked on metal carts. The prices are even better than normal, but these items must be used immediately. Prices are above average for frozen foods, snacks, and other "Jewel" items, but the produce and meat section makes up for it. read more

I would like to give Pete a giant high-five if I am to ever meet him and explain to him how the cheap, fresh produce and meats in his store have probably saved some years of my life. Rather than buy crappy spoiled produce at the Jewel I know that Pete's is my go-to option when I want to make juice, a salad, sandwiches, steaks, kebabs, fly to the moon, create world peace, or cure cancer. They even have rotisserie chickens in their deli that they were selling yesterday for $4! I don't think I can even buy a fresh chicken for $4. Hell, I'm not sure I can even drive to somewhere from Chicago to see a live chicken for $4. This place is a great provider of all things fresh and all things Mexican, but if you want boxed stuff for cheap you'll need to hit the sales at Jewel. read more

The first time I walked into Pete's and saw the giant pyramids of bright, fresh and delicious produce it was like walking into heaven. Then I saw the sale prices, I almost climaxed. I eat a lot, A LOT, of raw veggies, specifically tomatoes. I have spent some quality time hunting down the best quality/price of tomatoes in the city. I will never shop for produce at another store. (maybe a Cermak Produce but only out of convenience if I move) I've only bought meat twice, both times we got amazing steaks and I can't wait to try more cuts and the pork. The groceries beyond the produce are averagely priced and there's limited variety, but still the produce is worth it. mmm... read more

This is a great grocery store. It's nice to have a place that sells high quality food with a variety of options on the west side. They also have a good selection of ethnic foods that are hard to come by at other places. I never feel that it's overly crowded, even on weekends. read more

Nice market with the only real disadvantage being that Ive never seen a Petes on the northside. Only been here once but fell for the wide selection of ready to go eats. There was a huge salad bar, soup station, pizza, chicken...on and on. If there was a Petes near me I would be guilty of just picking up some dinner rather than cooking it. read more

I love a good grocery store. True story: one time I was out to go get some milk, fruit, and bread - nothing special. Went to Jewel nearby and walked around to get what I was looking for but I was absolutely disgusted! Ugly produce, weak variety, and worst of all - absurd pricing! Sorry Jewel, it's not your fault - I've just been corrupted by Pete's into thinking that all grocery stores should function as they do: clean, well managed, amazing variety, and off-the-truck prices will do that to anyone. The one on Cermak is my usual but I think the new Pete's on 95th is my #1. Nonetheless, for pretty much everything except some really more european and gourmet prepared foods you really can't beat Pete's Fresh Market. On top of that the service at this place has consistently been great and I'm constantly amazed at how good of a job they do with both food presentation and store cleanliness. Finally, some of their prepared foods are really amazing - you need to get the mango salsa and the guacamole is a must with grilling season just beginning. Deli is pretty solid and I think they just started getting Boar's head meats/cheese. Some unexpected findings include good gruyere prices and emmanthal. Butcher shop is pretty latin-centric but you can get most any cut of meat imaginable - the chorizo is cheap and good. Usually have some great prices on skirt steak and chicken. Bakery has a few things worth trying. I have found the kolachki decent and the turnovers are good. People always say the tres leches is awesome but I have not tried yet. Also, they carry this line of 'park avenue' bagels that I really like and are usually really cheap. Bottom Line: don't waste your time elsewhere, there are only a few wothwhile grocery stores in this city: stanley's, H mart, Trader Joe's, Aldi (at times), Fox and Obel, and Pete's. Out of those only Pete's has both the comprehensive variety and the pricing to make it worth your weekly grocery dollar. read more

This place totally kicks butt. Vast selection of vegetable, fruit, meat, poultry and diary. And what's important, everything oozes freshness. And what's even more important, they're dirt cheap!! I haven't found any other grocery store in Chicago urban area that can beat this Pete's in price. It takes me a while to get there since I don't drive, so I stopped being a frequenter. this is a great supermarket in the pilsen/little village neighborhood. while there are plenty of other markets nearby, i think pete's is one of largest and cleanest. they have a huge selection of produce that is always really inexpensive. i've gotten 2 red bell peppers for $.98, an english cucumber for $.78 and whole wheat pita pockets for $1. they have a wider variety of produce that the nearby el guero and cermak produce. some of their meats can be a little more expensive than the aforementioned markets, but i still think pete's is worth a shot. they have a really huge bakery with mexican sweets as well as american pastries. their french bread is really amazing; the loaves are large, crusty, and wonderful. all in all, pete's is a great market. read more

Put this way, the store is 1/3 produce dept, 1/3 meat dept, and 1/3 Mexican specialties with a lot of Fabuloso cleanser and artificially flavored drinks, Pete's is an oasis on the Southwest side civilizing an otherwise so, so retail strip on Cormack. Fresh vegetables immaculately displayed and always a mountain of yellow Mexican papaya to greet you at the door. Ooooh, Pete's and I are old friends. And so much so that this is the second place I frequent most other than my own home. Though they don't offer every grocery item on the planet like some of the bigger chain stores, Pete's most consistently offers a great variety of fresh produce. I love how I COULD spend under $25 a week on a selection of fresh veggies and a couple packs of protein meats, either chicken, pork or beef, and have plenty of sustenance for the week. They've also got great deli, meat and seafood counters with more than helpful staff. read more

I don't do my grocery shopping anywhere else, especially when I realized that it was so close to my apartment. They have a huge selection of produce/deli/meats, and they have everything else you could want from a grocery store. They even have a wide selection of cheese (I love me some cheese.) As someone else stated before, their name brand items can get pricey, but sometimes they have really great sales, and the generic store brands are just as good! read more

Pete's at one time was great for everything ... within the last year my wife and I along with my mother in law on separate occasions we had to return meat and chicken purchased it was marked on the butcher packaging as that day fresh etc... smelled horrible clearly expired this happened several times now we just don't buy meat from Pete's any more read more

I love this store. We ran out of time to shop on Xmas eve and I needed a large store for our big meal. I was so grateful that Pete's was open on Xmas Day!!! They had EVERY SINGLE THING I was looking for from a good meat selection to great produce to luscious dessert and plenty of liquor. The staff was friendly, the manager helpful, and the store is clean and well-stocked. It is worth the drive from wherever you live. Great prices and far fresher produce than Jewel or Marianos. This grocery store was *such* a welcome treat after frequenting Dominicks (no selection) and Treasure Island (sooo pricey) for far too long (thank you, boyfriend with a car!) The selection of fresh produce is fantastic, as are their dry goods (nuts, dried fruit). Good bakery and a wide variety of brands. My only complaint is that they aren't especially vegetarian-friendly (no tofu dogs in a store of that size?) My search for a go-to all-in-one grocery store ends here! I'm elated that there's a Pete's within three miles of home, near Cermak/Western. *The produce is wide in quantity, high in quality, and priced right. * The same goes for the meat section. * The have a very wide selection of homemade bakery. Some is so-so, some is terrific. Their french bread is the latter. * Nice-ities like Topo Chico Grapefruit soda only make me more indebted to this store. Some quirks: They'll always ask you for your ID when paying by credit card. They close at 10PM. For standard "boxed" products, they are just so-so. Pete makes a laughing stock out of Dominick. That Pete's sign you see on the front of the building? The one with Pete holding the basket of produce in his arms, smiling? He's really gloating, knowing he's the king of groceries in the Chicagoland area. read more

Pete's is real good for the fruit and vegetables and only a short distance from my place. If I could improve one thing it would be the number of English speaking staff members. It's incredibly difficult to find things in a store that large when you have a communication barrier with the people that work there. Otherwise, prices are legit, it's clean and well stocked. numero uno -- the people are so nice here. i'm biased against supermarkets anyway but when i moved into the hood, i thought "ok, a large supermarket that touts freshness, might be into this". i expect a lot - granted especially in a predominantly Mexican hood. however, is it so much to ask for more organic and local produce? i think not. i would rather frequent my corner store dude who is a sweety. they had a miniscule organic grocery section which they stupidly scattered throughout the store recently. at some point i was excited about being able to pick up organic soy milk. i still go there for ketchup and tortillas and olives. i know this doesn't apply to 99% of the population but for vegans/locavores out there -- opt for farmer's markets, csa's, and bulk buying clubs, or your corner store. read more

When the cashier wants to speak to me in Spanish and gets an attitude because I speak right back to her in English.. hmm Where are we again ?? ...
