We made a reservation a month in advance for moving services for a sleep number bed, a 2 seater spa, a fridge and a freezer. We called them the day before to confirm because we had not heard from anyone and they did not have us on their books. We had Yelp messages confirming our reservation and everything. Our crew Julian, Steven and Fred showed up promptly, were super respectful of us and our things and worked really hard. They wrapped everything that couldn't be boxed really well and everything arrived at our new home in perfect shape. The only bad was that the truck size needed was grossly underestimated and all of our belongings wouldn't fit. We moved 2 hours away but after moving the first load the crew drove back (another 2 hour drive) and packed everything else and drove it to the new house the same day (another 2 hour drive). All in all they worked for 18 hours and never sat down except while driving. They remained cheerful, hardworking and respectful throughout. read more

We booked with Pete's about a week out from our move for an unloading service. They followed up with us to confirm the day before and kept in touch the day of to keep us in the loop as far as an arrival time. We were told they would try for ten but probably would be more like 12 realistically. The movers were held up on a job and got here about 2 o'clock and began at 215. We had a 26ft truck halfway full to unload. Art and Gabe had the whole truck unloaded in less than 2 hours which included moving a washer and dryer upstairs, an entertainment center, 6 dining chairs, a heavy granite top cradenza and about 70 boxes (to name a few things) to various locations around the house. When it came time for payment, we did have a slight discrepancy but Pete rectified that quickly and made it right with us which speaks volumes to the integrity of the business. We scheduled help to load our ABF trailer for a long distance move. We definitely had some concern about whether all our stuff would fit in the trailer, and we were really hoping we wouldn't need to schedule more space on a second trailer. Alan, Fred, and John did an amazing job. They were fun to work with, they were efficient, they helped us protect the more fragile items, and they used their Tetris skills to fit all our stuff with a bit of room to spare. We had a short move from Ceres to Manteca, and I contacted Pete's via their website for a quote. I got a call from them in less than 10min! The quote wasn't cheap, but it was very fair considering the extremely heavy, bulky, and valuable antique furniture being moved. They were able to accommodate our moving date, and actually offered next day service if we wished. Pete's stayed in touch with me throughout the entire process. The day of the move, the crew arrived, assessed the situation and immediately got to work blanketing and wrapping every piece except mattresses. I had Pete's Moving Services move several large, delicate and heavy items today. The movers, Fred and Julian were polite and knowledgeable, getting the job done in a very efficient manner and in a reasonable amount of time. They took care to disassemble and reassemble the items exactly as they were originally, which I was quite concerned about when I booked the job. Part of the reason I chose Pete's was their very high rating on Yelp. The office crew was also great, checking to make sure the job was scheduled at a convenient time and being very cordial in our communication. This is the second time I have used Pete's in the last year. The first move was smaller and closer in distance but went perfectly. This time I had them come all way to Santa Cruz for a move to Valley Springs. I was worried the second time around would not be as great as the first time but fortunately I was wrong. I figured by the time they arrived to Santa Cruz from Modesto they'd be tired and worn out after a 3 hr drive leaving at 4:30 am. Got the upbeat text letting me know that they had left and when they were getting close. Arrived on time and very upbeat and friendly. One of them was one of the guys from the previous move, Julian. The other two were as upbeat and friendly as he was, Santos and Will. My place is small but somewhat packed with heavy antiques and tons of heavy outdoor items. They had everything loaded before I knew it without one whine or complaint. We took off to the destination which was much more complicated due to it being a two story home and unfortunately the largest and heaviest of the items needed to go upstairs. Again not one complaint, just smiling and joking the entire time. I have used many movers over the years but I can guarantee you there is no better moving company than Pete's, not to mention being very competitive. Not recommended! Nice people but disorganized, haphazard, poor customer service, and horrible moving insurance! In summary: a few months ago we contacted moving company and gave detailed description of property that needed to be moved and size of our apartment and garage. They recommend a large truck and two movers. On the day of the move one mover showed up with truck but told us he had to wait for his partner who was 30 min late. Once they both arrived we showed them all of the property that was boxed up and ready along with all of our furniture. An hour and half later they tell us they need more movers at our cost. A third mover arrives an hour later. Moving took several hours past estimation even with my wife and I carrying and loading boxes with movers. Instead of caring boxes out, they put them on dollies and let them drop down each stair. Company tells us later that their moving insurance covers items $0.60 per lbs. for damaged items, not replacement or repair value!!!!! As we were approaching the end of loading, movers tell us the truck is too small to move everything. Moving company tells us they have to get a second truck. Once movers found out they would have to get another truck and keep working, they jammed and forced everything into the one truck. read more

We found out last minute on a Friday that we would be able to close early on our new house. That means I was trying to get someone to move us the following day, which was a Saturday in June, so, it wasn't like I had a ton of people who had an option to move us. Pete's answered the phone and said there was a possibility they would be available on Saturday afternoon ("So, you're saying there's a chance?). Since we really only needed help with the bigger furniture items, we took them up on it. Sadly, on Saturday, they said they weren't going to make it. No bigs, I knew that going into it. They also said they would, for sure, send someone on Sunday. So, we scrambled to move what we could and get everything ready for the following day. Then, we received a call on Sunday that said they couldn't come at all. Obviously upset, I told them we had relied on their representation and hadn't sought out anyone else to get the job done before we had to go back to work on Monday. Well, lo and behold, the giant moving truck made it together with two guys to help get us moved. After that, it was smooth sailing. They were careful with our furniture, wrapped the things that needed to be wrapped, and were able to get everything we needed moved in one fell swoop. They were also great upon arrival at our new place. We had to be a mover's worst nightmare since we moved out of a fairly new home and into a farm hour built in the 1940s (i.e. narrow doorways). They tried to get some of our stuff up the tiny stairs into the converted attic, bless their hearts. When that didn't work, they were able to maneuver it all into the downstairs area without any property damage. With the exception of getting the move started, these guys were excellent. It started off great and ended in disappointment. We sold our home in Stockton and Pete's crew came to pick up our belongings to put in storage until construction on our new home was completed in NV. We knew it would be six months or so. I was in monthly contact with Sarah and kept her updated. She was most helpful and she was always pleasant to speak with. The day came that we got to move to the new house and our belongings arrived, along with a full size bed with frame, an extra nightstand, about 10 chairs that should go in a doctor's office waiting room, a flat screen tv and a big telescope tripod and five dead cockroaches, all items that didn't belong to us, so they put them back on the truck (minus the cockroaches). We were disappointed because there were lots of our things that WEREN'T delivered: an end table (we have 2 couches and 2 recliners and now only one end table), a wardrobe box full of clothes including heavy duty warm jackets (it was 8 degrees here this morning), all the food boxes from our pantry, a box with my baking items, a box with accent pillows and a box with beer steins from Germany, just to name several. Sarah checked the warehouse and didn't find them. So, our things were delivered to someone else and they didn't mention it and kept our things. We also have a nice ding in the front or our $2300 stainless fridge that we bought 4 months before we moved, and the back of one leather recliner has deep dents where the leather was stretched by something heavy that was packed on top of it. We were told that they would give us 60 cents per pound for the things that are missing. How are we supposed to know what things weighed? They were going to send us a check for $50. Really? And we can file a claim against our homeowner's insurance. Really? And have our premium go up? If we chose to accept the $50, I had to sign a letter saying, "This is to document that I, XXXXXXXX, agree to the settlement amount of __$50.00__ and that I shall not, through any form of communication with the press, public, clients or media, disparage Pete's Moving Services in any way. I understand that forms of communication include but are not limited to social media websites, public forums, suppliers, vendors, clients, interviews, or record statements. I understand that disparagement includes but is not limited to critiques, derogatory statements, ridicule, slander, jokes or insults at the expense of the company, management, products, or services. I understand that if I violate this agreement that, Pete's Moving Services LLC has the right to take legal action against myself for slander." We passed on the $50.00. Would I use Pete's again? Maybe (not that we're ever planning to move again) as long as they bring our belongings directly from the old house to the new house and didn't store our things...It wasn't worth the storage fee of $225 a month for them to give our things away. If there was a way to give negative stars, I would. I know that there are a lot of different, unexpected things that can happen while moving but how Pete with Pete's Moving Services handled our situation was extremely unprofessional and worth writing a lengthy Yelp review and warning future customers about. I was making a long-distance move from Northern to Southern California this last weekend. Given the stresses of moving and my need to have good plans in place, I booked my moving truck along with Pete's Moving Services almost 1 month in advance. Prior to the move, I spoke with several representatives with Pete's Moving, including Pete himself, to obtain additional information and to confirm the move date and time. The representatives were knowledgeable, courteous and reassuring. Speaking with Pete prior to the move was very pleasant and I felt so comfortable with the company prior to the actual move. My last call to the company was on Fri, May 31 to confirm my scheduled appt for movers to arrive between 9 and 10 am. A girl at the company reassured me that we were all set. On Saturday, June 1, I patiently waited for the movers to arrive between 9 and 10 am. Again, moving is a very difficult and stressful feat. It doesn't help when you have to move when you are 7 months pregnant. You rely heavily on the people around you and those who you hire for assistance. I waited until 10 am to roll around prior to calling Pete's Moving to inquire about the status of the movers. Upon calling at 10 am, Steve informed me that 1)My scheduled window of time wasn't until 10 to 11 am and/or 2)Something was wrong with the crew that they were sending over and he would call and check in on it. I didn't know which one it was since I called to confirm my 9 to 10 am window the day before and had email confirmation about my 9 to 10 am window. It seemed so odd that it was either one thing or the other and no one took ownership of what was really going on. Nevertheless, I was going to wait for their call to clear it all up. 11 am came and went and we received no call. I called again at 11:30 am and spoke with Pete directly. Pete confirmed that it was a problem on their part and their movers' truck broke down. Pete was apologetic but stated that there isn't much that they could do about it. Pete's best solution for the problem was to send a crew that was nearby once they were done with their last job. Pete quoted me a time frame of 2 hours from 11:30 am. Pete also reassured me that he would "keep me updated." Again, I completely understand that trucks break down and things happen but how a company, especially the owner of a company, handles a bad situation speaks volumes about the quality of the company. Pete handled things horribly! Not only did he NEVER call me back with any update, when I called him, he never answered. As you can guess, no one showed up to my house at 1:30 pm as Pete said they would. I figured the guys got held up at their last job but how hard is it as the owner of the company to call and at least give a disgruntled customer a call to tell them that their guys are taking longer than expected?! Pete did not want to face the music and deal with me at all. Additionally, when I called to check in since he gave no updates, he just sent me to voicemail. FOUR hours later, Kaydin was kind enough to call and let me know that they were on their way. Not sure if any of you have ever planned a long-distance move but when you hire movers at one destination, when you arrive at your new destination, you've got a different set of movers. Because Pete and crew never communicated with me, the movers awaiting my arrival in Southern California had to be cancelled and rescheduled, costing an arm and a leg. Additionally, I was not able to complete the loading until approximately 7:30 pm on Saturday. This job was a 2 hour job scheduled for 10 am at the latest. I would have been able to get on the road by 12 or 1 pm and arrived at my destination by 8 pm. Instead, I drove my car alongside my spouse who drove the moving truck at 8 pm to arrive in Southern California at 2 am because of the inconvenience that Pete put us through. Did I mention that I was 7 months pregnant? The guys who helped us move were spectacular. Kaydin and Adam did their very best to assist us given the horrendous circumstance that Pete put us through. They were kind and eager to help but you could tell that they've been working hard on prior jobs because by the time they arrived at our place, they seemed tired already. Not sure if Pete treats his employees just as good as he treats his customers but if how he handled our situation is any indication, I would say that these guys are overworked and that this company is significantly short staffed. I mean, it was a delay of over 6 hours to get guys to help us with the move so perhaps Pete simply doesn't have the means to supply the demand coming at him. DO NOT book with Pete. read more

Cannot rate less than zero. Meg was great. However, they knew we had dogs & cats and had acquired additional pets belonging to a family member who was recently placed in a care home. They knew we had lost 3 days in preparation to move due to multiple unexpected emergencies. As such, we only wanted movers to move furniture, totes, and boxes in the hallway, bedrooms, and kitchen. We told the movers they DID NOT need to worry about the boxes in that room, as they had been there for 1-year due to a remodel, I needed to clean around them, and some needed to be repacked/taped, etc. There was one small cabinet and one antique piece that we told them was heavy - and wrapping would be helpful (bronze) needing to be moved from that room. We told the movers they DID NOT need to worry about items in the backyard OR garage, except a few totes my husband already had packed in the garage, and they knew at scheduling the move - they were supposed to take 4-peach crates stacked with lite weight motorcycle parts & tools. We were paying extra for the pallet jack to move them. The total weight of filled pallets was less than 1000lbs. My husband had the garage door up for HIMSELF to continue packing for US to move the remaining items in the garage, dining room, and backyard - the following weekend. The front door was wide open for easy access for THEIR work. I only needed to remove our pet barriers, dog crates, and dog pads - for the dogs they knew about (at scheduling). It would have taken me 10 minutes. Their supervising mover seemed very overwhelmed - although shouldn't have been, because there was less work for them. At least one of their movers had a jail affiliation tattoo. When I went back into the dining room containing boxes they weren't going to move, this person taking pictures with his cell phone WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION. They complained about pet hair and dust. Yes, we would have had less of that had we not experienced our emergencies, but we are a clean family. They made it sound as if we were not. We had our grandson's tarantula in an aquarium, that was placed out of the way. This freaked out one of the movers. The supervising person was apparently allergic to cats. Why would he have been sent if they know we had cats and dogs? We had 2 cat boxes in the room they didn't need to worry about. Our entire area of Modesto has Japanese water beetles (funny, those words came up in my autofill so they must be common elsewhere) in our yards and water meter box. Not sure if it was Harry, the Tarantula, or those beetles, but the movers said we had "bugs". They had placed some of the boxes from the hallway and kitchen on the truck lift, then determined they would not be able to move us due to not having"...the ability to move freely with a clear path out, our not having everything boxed and ready for them to move, because of dust and animal hair, "feces" (one of our cats had THROWN UP gritty cat food on a box that was in the room they were not supposed to worry about moving items from...it wasn't feces), and because we had "bugs". I told them they have a clear path out the front door. Nobody told them to go through the garage, as my husband was working out there to pack his own items for the following weekend. They crossed the street to have another pow-wow, unloaded the boxes they had on the lift, said they couldn't work in these conditions, AND LEFT. Left us scrambling, mid-morning on a Sunday, looking for a U-haul, and for people to help us move. After a week of identity theft & fraud against my brother-in-law, and having to help him through that...a/c going out in my car on the hottest day of the week, and finding out that the reason one of our cats was throwing up is because of beginning stages of kidney failure, and now this - I lost it. Pete's, be prepared for small claims court, to reimburse us for our moving expenses...and for all of the free advertising, we can provide. Most of the reviews I read were so positive, explaining how helpful the guys were...how they went out of their way, etc. Well, not for us. This company was recommended by our realtor. Movers were not always on time, they did stay late when needed, though they asked for a tip. Difficult to get a hold of Pete after the initial estimate, even the movers couldn't reach him. This was an out of state move. Way too many items broken. I was told things were moved several times while in their care. Compensation at 60% was fine but the assigning of value was not accurate for family heirlooms that were damaged. I highly recommend getting additional insurance well before your move. The packers were quick and efficient and packed by room, not by like items which made for a hectic unpacking and wondering where everything is. The time line for reporting damage is short, and if you're disabled, makes unpacking a full time job. The unpackers were a third party local contract, not part of Pete's team except the driver. The driver was in a hurry, the other unpackers complained about putting furniture where it needed to be. I was told the unpackers would unroll rugs and put furniture where it needed to be, put beds together, pretty much all unpacking but they could not hang anything in the wall. Only large furniture was placed. Many heavy items were left in rooms for us to place, which meant we needed to hire someone. The office staff was always nice. I would try another company in the future just to compare. After all it costs us over 10G. read more

So much was missing and there were supposed to be 3 movers but only 2 showed up and the "supervisor" just constantly complained about how lucky I was that I paid a $2500 flat rate. All of my clothes were hung up in wardrobes only to be thrown in boxes. My brand new 70 inch tv was destroyed and yes I have pictures of everything. Dishes, glasses, expensive vases and so much other broken glassware. Do not use this service. Half of my clothes are missing all of my Knick knacks and family pictures which I don't understand because I don't know how they would be of value to anyone but me. The movers, Fred and Julian did a great job, taking much care to properly disassemble the items and reassemble them in my home. They got it done within a reasonable amount of time and were quite polite and cordial. This was The worst moving experience i have ever had! Just about every piece of furniture was damaged, they even threw my leather couch off the balcony if i didnt care about my items i would have thrown them away before The move! My neighbors were watching & picked up pieces of things left in The courtyard after they left. My mattress was not put into The plastic bags that were supplied by me & left onto of The mattress to use & items are still missing. I called a week later, when they finally delivered The pieces for my bed, to find out where the tops of the posts for my bed were & looked & they found some "things" that were left in The truck wouldnt you Call The customer when you cleaned out The truck The next morning to say a few things were left in The truck? Im still missing The top of a floor lamp & The knobs for my desk (although luckily when i went back to my house i found one in knob in the bushes but still need 2 more so need to call the manufacturer, grrrr. But my wall Unit desk, filling cabinet, buffet, sectional, dining chairs, garage cabinets ... all damaged & they even forgot the boxes for my clothes so i had to come back & do those by myself. This move took from 9 am -10pm for a 2 bedroom condo which one bedrooms items were already in the garage Plus had to come back & finish which took about a week so no beds as the bedframes were still had the other house. They are not professional movers Just people they picked up somewhere trying to get paid by The hour taking forever without care of your belongings. Pete was super nice & made sure they came back & asked nicely for me to remove my yelp review, which i did, but as i sit here dealing with all of the damage & lost items i Just dont think its fair to allow others to believe they will receive 4 star Service. They do not wrap anything & do not protect the banisters, carpets or wood floors & everytime they damage something simply say, Just call Pete. As a gift to my client, I offered to pay for their move. They were moving from Hayward to Stockton. I submitted a request for an estimate online via Yelp to Pete's & a few other movers. I received a response from Pete within 10 minutes. I gave him a call & we worked out the details. Pete had to do a little rescheduling on his end but he was able to squeeze us in for a Sunday move, mind you it was already Friday. I received an email confirming the terms of our agreement. We used Pete's Movers recently for a move from California to Arizona. Pete was very "hands on" and gave us great service. His moving crew were all great and did an excellent job packing and loading our things. They are experienced and work hard.There was no breakage or damage to any of our possessions with the move. They went out of their way to treat us good including moving some very heavy items that other movers said they would not do. Once they arrived at our new house they then put all of our stuff in the various rooms that my wife asked them to do and organized our garage with the rest of the moved items as she wanted. Very nice guys that moved my moms items from storage to her new house. They wrapped everything well although 1 glass shelf did break during transport. This was due to it not being wrapped prior to the move however. But they were helpful still with putting furniture and boxes in the right area. The front entry way to the house on the floor was also scratched up from sliding in the furniture. Maybe they should have put down something. We just had the floors in the house put in. My only complaint is that it did take a while. While my mom had bigger piece furniture items, and while the guys were very nice and polite, they did like to chat with each other and could have moved a little faster when pulling out the items to wrap the furniture in. That's why it took a longer time. I wouldn't mind if I had tons of money to hire them lol But I don't. In the end, they got the job done. read more

I called Pete's Moving after a local (Mike's) never showed up. We had everything prepared for the move on this day, and took time off work, to find the jerk (Mike's) not even answer the phone nor contact me to cancel. I randomly called Pete's around noon that very same day and they put me on a brief hold to see if one of their crews could help me. The answer was YES, they would be here in about 4 hours! And sure enough they showed up at 4:30. The 3 men quickly assessed what was needed and got right to work. We had furniture that had to go to another home and it was carefully wrapped in blankets and loaded onto their truck. The beds were taken down and loaded too. We had very heavy wood furniture in the house that was moved from room to room and they were careful not to scratch or hit any walls or doors. When we got to our other destination, they again proceeded with precision and did exactly as we asked. They tore down other beds and tables, wrapped them carefully, and swapped one homes furniture with the other. They set up beds, night stands, tables and the chairs. Then they loaded up the stuff again,,...and we did the trip back to our other home. The crew never stopped - even though they were obviously tired from this and from working all day prior to us. Everything was set up again, with no complaints, just top quality workmanship. Pete's saved our butt. I highly recommend them for your move. read more

Pete moving moved us to Pahrump, NV. His crew was amazing! Pete did not estimate our load accurately. They could not get everything on the truck. We rented a U-haul trailer to haul the rest. We recommended Pete's Moving to my 93 y/o mother and sister when they moved. Pete came to Mom's house and estimated their load and gave them a figure for the move that stated was firm. He was told by me and my sister that they were moving to Omaha, NE. He stated they would bring a semi and it would take 7-10 days for the load to arrive. They were fine with that. When moving day came his crew showed up with a 26' Enterprise truck and he told his crew they were moving a one bedroom house. This is not true, their house was a two bedroom with a den. Of course there was not enough room on the truck for all their belongings, so his crew came back and removed a table and 4 chairs from the truck to get the rest of their belongings on the truck. Then he wanted to charge another $3500 because he said he did not know they were going that far. That is not true since not only did I tell him they were going to Omaha, so did my sister. My sister compromised the additional cost to $2000. Then to top it off Pete told his crew not to unload the truck unless they were paid first. I would not use them or recommend them to anyone else! Pete does not do an accurate job at estimating or sticking to his price once it is set. He also offered to unload the truck and they could find someone else to move them after my sister and Mother were on the road to Omaha. read more

Pete is absolutely awful! They left us Stranded. They scheduled our move for today between 2-4 pm. We packed up our home and have been waiting for them since 2 pm. Only at 3 pm that they called and told us that they cannot do the job. They are experienced movers so if they are on another job, they should know that they cannot come to us sooner than after the time that they committed to us I would never use them or recommend them to anyone. They will leave you stranded. Completely awful experience! Laughable that they advertised their service as on-time guaranteed! read more
