Stopped by for lunch around 2pm because I was feeling something a little more filling. I decided to get the Combo #2 which is a cheeseburger, fries, and a drink. They have different kinds of fries so I went with the cajun fries for $0.25 extra. You also get a canned drink with the meal! The burger was tender and tasty. The lettuce, tomato, onions, cheese, and Russian dressing all were great additions to the meal. The Russian dressing gave it that "Cali burger" feel and was quite refreshing with every bite. The bun, I must say, was mediocre. I wish they had heated it up or toasted it a bit. That would have elevated the flavor and quality of the whole burger, in my opinion. The cajun fries were good. They're simply regular fries showered with cajun seasoning. I loved the fact that every fry was crispy, crunchy, and great. Let's be clear, I am from California and this is by no means the "in-n-out of New York". The patties are small, you'll most certainly need the double option. The meat had little to no flavor,and the burger was sloppy. If it weren't for the paper wrapping it would be falling apart. I have eaten at Petey's multiple times and think their food is delicious BUT sometimes the food does come soggy when delivered through Seamless. It truly is hit or miss when it comes to deliveries. Well today I was on Seamless looking for a place to eat. Petey's came up and I instantly clicked on their profile. Prior to ordering I had a look at their reviews out of pure curiosity. My thought process was that if the last few reviews didn't complain about late and soggy food, I'd place my order. WELL. Not only were there multiple reviews about late and soggy food - I was really put off by a ton of their responses to customers. Most of all the response I've attached here. Huge disappointment, the hype surrounding this place is wildly overblown. Nowhere near the level of Shake Shack, let alone In N Out. More on par with a Five Guys type operation. Double Burger was very messy and pretty much completely unexceptional in every other way. Fries were decent and seemed fresh but they didn't even offer the option of cheese fries. Best cajun fries ever. 'Nuff said. I have a palate for spicy so if there's an option for cajun fries, I always go for it. And Petey's cajun fries are out of this world - tingling-the-back-of-your-tongue kinda spicy AND come in the form of a legit mountain. I couldn't finish mine and had to ask them to bag the rest up for me to take home. So if you feel eh about burgers, at least come here for the cajun fries. Speaking of burgers though, I got the cheeseburger and thought it was delicious. Size wise it looked about the same as In-N-Out or Shake Shack. As for quality? I can't really say, since I don't remember being impressed by In-N-Out, and Shake Shack's burger quality varies with location imo. Service: I went in on a weekday evening and there were probably 3 customers there, none in line before me, but there was still a bit of a wait on my food. Which is probably a good thing as that means they make it on the spot. They were pretty nice about me asking for a bag for the rest of my fries, and afterward offered to bus away my tray for me. This place is a fast food place that's VERY west coast. I've ordered delivery from here maybe like twice but upon stumbling upon them on Yelp I immediately thought to myself "OH CRAP!!! The fries here are fantastic and seasoned with more than just salt. CAJUN SEASONED FRIES are pretty much what's up. They probably have regular fries here, but why get regular when you can GO CAJUN?! These beautiful fries are thin cut, crunchy fries drowned in melted cheese and thousand islands dressing...with onions, but I hate onions so I asked for none and they delivered. I'm not necessarily sure after my first visit, but it's not a bad option if you don't want to spend a lot of money or time going to Bareburger. For one, there are a lot of different veggie patties you can choose from. I chose the Southwestern patty because I'm a fan of black bean patties. However, I'm really curious about the Greek patty. In plain view once stepping off the 30th Avenue stop in Astoria, Petey's is a place you go into when you don't feel like eating anything Greek and don't have a better clue as to where to go...and receive a tremendous surprise, because this IS the closest thing to In-N-Out burger not in the state of California. Same chunky patty melted into one with a cheerfully orange-ish slice of American cheese. Even the prices are only double (hey, it could be worse in this city, it could be triple or quadruple) what they are at In-N-Out. Plus, the fries are better. Crispy and flavorful with skins still on, and with more substantial innards than the casings they call french fries at the Californian franchise. The smallness of the space is nothing like the actual buildings that house In-N-Out chains, but there ARE sweet faced teen servers here who provide efficient and polite service last seen in the old world, and make eye contact as if they were raised before the digital age. It's almost enough to make you give a tip, only the lightning speed at-counter transaction is quick enough to let you squirm away from the dreaded task of tipping without feeling like a TOTAL douchebag. Actually, writing this, I do feel like a jerk and should really tip next time. A couple well placed televisions help direct your eyes somewhere as your eyes glazed over, so you can distract yourself from the self awareness that you are binging alone in a drafty little burger place in Queens at age 31, car-less, trying to relive memories of your late teens and early 20s cruising 10 friends deep with impunity in a state, climate, and lifestyle that's now more than a continent's breadth and decade out of your reach. I have never left a Yelp review before, but this is a PSA, and I have made a Yelp account for the only purpose of reviewing this restaurant. This place was fine the first time I ordered from there and that is about it. Today my boyfriend really wanted to order from here and I said okay...ordered a regular burger and a chocolate milkshake. I have been violently throwing up for the past 5-6 hours, and this is the only food I have had today, so I am 10000% certain this is what made me sick. The burgers came soggy and inedible. I took one bite and put it down, because I could tell the ingredients were not fresh. 3 minutes later I threw up that part of the meal. Figured I'd give the milkshake a go, because how wrong can you go with that??? It tasted a bit off, but I figured they just use ingredients that I'm not used to, because I'm an optimist. Nope, literally the worst food poisoning I have had in years. To top it off the restaurant said they refused to give a refund and that no one ever complains about their food. That is ridiculous, especially after reading some of the other reviews on this page. If I could I would give the food zero stars and the customer service less than that. There's some talk of this place as the Astoria version of IN N OUT, and I can see it. Paper wrapper burgers and a couple of patties coddled in cheese and a dollop of spread. As a Californian-New Yorker-Sent-Back-To-California I actually really liked this place. Sure it's not as cheap as IN N OUT, but then again, IN N OUT doesn't do online ordering and delivery, so if you live in Astoria I figure you should check them out. Im the kind of guy that when i visit LA n fly back i bring back in n out burgers for my California friends here in NY...pre-9-11 ofcourse....now i cant even bring a bottle of water i buy in the airport on a plane with me.... This is my go to spot when I've had a little too much to drink the night before and I want a quick cheeseburger to satisfy my burger cravings. Petey's Burger is indeed the closest thing to In-n-out in NYC. Inside it feels like a old school fast food restaurant. I usually order the cheeseburger combo which comes with fries and a drink. I also usually order an extra side of Petey sauce for my fries. The cashiers tend to be very young and at times are not very attentive but again you come here just for the fast food. The burger comes out pretty quickly and is simple yet tasty. My one gripe? Whenever I used to order delivery the food usually would be very cold. Drinks are served in cans (we could have used some fountain soda) and the fries were more than enough to split between two people. The fries were pretty good, a much deeper coloring though like the oil in the fryer hadn't been changed in awhile. The double cheeseburgers looked good, so points for presentation, but they managed to be both greasy and a bit dry at the same time. "Better than In N Out" it says on the front window. I fell for this lie and I write this review in the hopes that you won't. Burger and fries were 2x the price of In N Out and on top of that the meal was so bland that I actually felt bad about myself afterwards. There's no place to sit down inside so I had to carry my meal a mile home in this 40 degree weather. This burger is good, arguably very good, but definitely not in the same class as Shake Shack. I ordered the Double Cheese without onion and extra crispy fries. The pattys are slightly larger than Shake Shack and the bun is the perfect size (doesn't overwhelm the meat!). The burger was very tasty but just lacked the flavor that you find in the Pat Lafrieda blends at a shake Shack and other spots.
