We just bought a puppy that has been hospitalized for kennel cough and pneumonia not even 48 hrs after arriving home with her. She was showing hints of a cough in the store and the worker that was tending to us assured us it wasn't. After we got home with her she got worse. Globs of green mucus was trailing out of her nose by the next morning. Thankfully the vet was able to squeeze us in, but she's been hospitalized for nearly a week now. I recommend that everybody avoid this place. We should have known better considering that one puppy was covered in fecal matter and others were eating their poop. This place needs to be investigated and either shut down or straightened up. Poor doggos! They're not even worth a single star! read more

We were told 1500 for him and we went back today to get him and as we were getting paperwork done they bumped the price up to 17 so we couldn't get him.. Cute puppies in the store that they claim to be AKC when they are mixed! They told me a few months ago that there is a way you can get them to be AKC now even if they're a mixed breed. This may be true but it doesn't take it from the fact that they're mixed. A TRUE AKC is a full breed. Also, NOT worth $3000 for a mixed dog...even if it does come with everything, it's a rip off!! One of the guys working there acted so frustrated when a puppy peed on the floor. How else are they supposed to know when they are locked in a kennel on a grate? They don't! I HAD to give a star. That's the only reason they got one. We typically spend between 50.00 and 200.00 a week at Petland of Columbus GA. We keep a variety of animals from dogs and cats to more exotic reptiles and both salt and tropical fish. We know a few of the employees by name and I'm sure they would recognize us by face at least in the store setting. Today we went in to kill some time. One of us was searching for an item that Petland does not carry. He spoke to Marcus- who by the way is basically one of the better go to guys- if he doesn't know it he will find out for you right then and there... Marcus checked the shelf with our friend and apologized that they did not carry it. I continued checking out the small animals and puppies and we met at the hamsters and exited the store. The owner came out of the store and asked if we forgot to pay for an item... we all looked at each other and said "no I'm sorry that is not us" and he asked another three times. . . each time the answer was the same. I personally thought he thought we had items at the counter but alas, he confirmed my husband and our friend's sinking suspicion that we were being accused of theft when he told our friend " we have cameras and we will get to the bottom of this one way or another and I will have to deal with it that way" we basically said okay at that point and went to the car. None of us took anything so no big deal. Well, he came out with a pen and paper to write down our tag number! the older man who he probably has working security was inside the doors, visible and not to be hateful but you could almost see an evil twinkle in his eye's knew he had us nailed and was ENJOYING watching us squirm under his bosses scrutiny. Except we did not steal anything and now he'd offended us by sneaking to try and get our tag number! My husband went in with his ID and offered ALL our DL #'s to the guy. . . in the store in front of customers. . . the tune changed. "OH no I'm not accusing you just trying to clear it up" " no need for that" etc etc. type stuff. So we left. But you'd better bet we will NEVER go back to Petland again. Others maybe but not this one. I think it should have been handled way differently. I understand the need for security and theft prevention. In this case the owner could have A) gotten the tag number B) asked the employees if they saw anything suspicious since we were indeed working with one of them during the visit. C) Got the tag number and also attempted to review the footage while we were still browsing way if we 'got away' he would have the number and his proof. we spent a good 5-10 minutes with the hamsters and rabbits- more than enough time to have an employee maintain visibility of us and for him to do a quick rewind. the entire visit was MAYBE 20-25 minutes. This is our 2nd 'offensive moment' with the older man. He also detained us on our way out when we picked up some bulbs that had a "FREE take one " sign on their basket. He checked with the employee in fish and we left. I understood that but now that I am thinking about it coupled with this situation I am not left feeling good. I am left feeling like he may feel that we do not look like the 'Petland type' regardless of anything we spend in there. read more

We payed $1800 for our German Shepherd who broke out in swollen rashes on his face and body, turns out he has genetic demodex mange from his mom. Thankfully it was an easy fix and he's not contagious. Maybe instead of investing so much time and energy swearing that they only get puppies from good reputable breeders, they should actually look into what they're selling. I may be 16 but 16 years of my life has been spent around all animals and learning everything about them. When I go in the store and say something I know, the employee is just really rude and says that I shouldn't have done it. But boy I'm pretty sure I know more about animals. Anyway I'm extremely mad AND then me and my friend tried to play with a puppy but one other employee said it was "feeding time". Yet there was someone in a pin with a puppy at the same time. Petland is mistaken. People assume that the dogs come from puppy mills, well I have the papers on the dog I bought showing he came from a legit breeder. My GSD has had a few bumps in the road with his health, and petland has been there to pay for all of his medical expenses. They guarantee the animal. The dogs may be pricey but before you jump to conclusions, maybe you should look at what they have to offer. read more

This place lacks customer service. The employees do not greet potential customers at all. It took about 15 minutes for any of the lazy employees standing around to acknowledge me and my wife. We bought a puppy here a very short while ago. They mentioned that he has a week knee "luxating patella" but that it is normal and he will grow out of it as he grows older. I wondered why they carried him to us and had us carry him to our car, never preferring we walk him when we bought him that day... When we took him home, we noticed later that he was a limper and hopped around on his back knees a few times.... made me nervous cuz we spent more then a thousand for him. When I took him to the park a block away from our apartment the next day he would not walk back home with me (had to carry him home). I went and took him to the vet and found out more about his luxating patella. IT WAS NOT NORMAL as the sales person said it was. This puppy was in pain and was most likely bread in a puppy mill. I learned my lesson... PLEASE DONT PURCHASE FROM PETSTORES THAT GET THEIR PUPPIES FROM PUPPY MILLS. Puppies should not suffer genetic diseases because of people forcing unhealthy dogs to breed. Me and my husband are heartbroken that we had to give up such a sweet dog and return him not just because of his health but for the sake of the whole puppy mill industry. I hope he finds a good home where he wont have to be walked too often. Our second story apartment just wouldn't work for a dog with a bad knee that cant even go up the stairs... Wasn't a bad place. The fiance and I went to Petland multiple times in a month period to look at puppies for purchase. The employees were really professional, understanding, and even attempted to find a dog that was perfect for us. A month later we finally found that dog and ended up purchasing him. When it came to purchasing the puppy he had all of his shots taken care off, free of charge by Petland, a free doctor's physical, registered with the AKC, and a free Vet check up for any additional problems that might've went unscreened. I've been to poopy Petlands before in the past, but this store wasn't one of them. Overall, they allowed me to negotiate a price for the dog that I wanted and we were allowed to take him home two days later. (Little puppy is now doing great! Only hes a bit too smart for his own good... :P) I'd recommend them to anybody in the Columbus area who can't find a breeder or rescue that has the breed they're looking for or want to take a chance and hope to find the lucky puppy that's right for them. read more

i dont believe in purchasing puppies from pet stores since they come from puppy mills. i would take my child just to see the puppies. one day i purchased something and had to return it for a refund, big mistake!!!!! the workers are very nice but the manager is a rude no people skills having being. he came with a bad attitude, said nothing, did the refund and left the money on the counter and told me i could get my refund.when i bought it i put money in hand but i guess with a refund u pick it up off the counter. he didnt even say have a nice day or anything, just total silence the whole time.how rude and so very unprofessional! i called later to tell hjim how i felt in a calm way and the same manager offered no appollogy and said he saw nothing wrong with what he had done. no people skills and apparently no common sense either, this is stuff u learn at home. please and thank you an d have a nice day, heck even barney taught u that much. come on....
