Staff was friendly and helpful However, it ended up being a financial nightmare. We decided to use their financial services through Commenity/Bread financial. We had paid fully for our dog by the end of the first month however, Comenity/Bread put the money in the wrong account. They had to refund cause they couldn't transfer into proper account. They over refunded meanwhile charging interest on both accounts. Straightening out their mistakes took a total of 4 months with many many calls all lasting at least 30 min to 1hour. I recently purchased a german shepherd puppy from petland in Rockford... He was from a breeder out of Indiana and advertised as a happy, healthy puppy in pictures, videos, and again in person. What I didn't realize when I purchased my sweet 2 month old boy is how he was just treated for coccidia on June 1st. The treatment for this in his paperwork was documented as a preventative Vaccine. I don't believe an antibiotic for the parasitic protozoa coccidia (which is so contagious and hard to keep from coming back, that you have to sanitize your whole house, belongings, and yard every day during treatment which lasts at least 10 days) is a vaccine. He also came home with kennel cough along with the severe, explosive diarrhea caused by the coccidia parasite. Purchased my boy on Friday and he was at the vet by Monday with 3 different medications costing me $200. Call to speak to a manager and they send me to their claims department and refuse to talk to me at all. So, hopefully I will be reimbursed and my puppy heals. But as a warning to others... We pet almost every animal in there and with all the "puppy poop" aka coccidiosis from all the animals and how contagious both illnesses are... If you purchased a pet from there recently, or plan on purchasing one, get them to a vet. Or wait. Or go somewhere more reliable with healthier animals. I will say this, I love him so much that I'm glad I got him out of the feces infested, infection ridden, puppy mill he came from. read more

This place is so sad. They have a selection of dogs in cages - and just by looking at them you can tell they're not healthy. We actually bought a dog from here and she's okay now - but had a slew of health problems that stemmed from being in dirty cages all day. All the dogs jump up when they see you and just want to be held - so I go there sometimes just to get them out of the cage and hold them for a bit. They are adorable. I would suggest coming here just to save a dog. However, they don't have that great of selection of anything and it's quite dirty for a place where they actually house pets. Customer service is not fantastic either. All in all, the only reason to go here is to save a sad puppy if you're in the market for one! read more

I'm a sap for cuteness, so coming here is a mixed bag. I love seeing all the animals, but I feel so bad for them. The pups and kittens look deprived of attention and stuck in a small, cold, steel and plastic cage (no blankets or pillows). And the chinchillas (a nocturnal animal) are placed right next to all of the birds (who are in the process of raising the largest racket every time I'm there). And still I return. The staff member in the lizard area was incredibly helpful in explaining what would work for first time owners. Yesterday, we were in search of guinea pig prices (and without a perks card for other stores, this is the cheapest place with $33). They had about 4, though they were all a bit skiddish. The best part of the trip were the bunnies. Two black and one white, but only the white one was shy, the two black ones were more than willing to hop on over for a pet. Oh my heart melted!! Come here for some of the animals, but not for the supplies (waaay over priced). read more

Ever heard of a neighborhood pet store? Yeah, me neither. But this place is pretty nice. The selection is not overwhelmingly great as this is a smaller pet store than Petco or Petsmart on State St but it does boast a better number of pet clothes geared toward extra tiny puppies like mine. This store was the first place I could find little shirts for less-than-5 lbs dogs. Also the staff was very nice. Not always super-knowledgeable but generally very pleasant. Stay away from this store. I made the mistake of deciding on purchasing supplies for a new project and life happened. I needed to return the products where I learned at that time from the rude and condescending girls at the register that you only get an in store credit on returns. They pointed out the little note card taped to the register that states this policy. When I apologized for not noticing this since I was excited about my purchase and was getting tips from the young man helping me they rudely told me it's on the receipt as well. I ended up going back and getting another tank for my project but this experience has pretty much clouded the whole thing. I also found out that the tank I purchased is ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS cheaper every where else. Stay away people. This rates as the worse retail experience I have ever had. Oh, and Petland Solutions??? Ha...what a joke. The only positive this store has is Joe. Super helpful, professional, knowledgeable, he's the only reason I went back. Most reviews seem to be about the puppies in the store, but what stood out to me was the fish tanks! I left the store sick to my stomach, and it wasn't just due to the smell! Though, what IS that smell?? I know what pets smell like and what pet stores smell like...this was not that! It was vinegary and really gross. But the POOR fish!! One third of the tanks were cloudy. Probably 2/3 of the tanks had dead fish in them. The algea in so many was WAY out of control. I looked at a tank with Electric Blue Rams in it and they were almost white, they were so stressed! If you know those fish, they are typically an extremely vibrant and striking blue. There is not a chance in the world that I would take a fish from there, even if you paid me!! read more

Every single fish tank looked like it had not been clean in months. The dogs had nothing in there little box but a small toy and a water dispenser that was meant for a hamster. And they had a rack for the bottom of the cage and no beds or blankets for them to lay on or food!!! Also their license was expired by 7 months! This place does not look well owned. I was told one week that a puppy I was interested in had a type two heart murmur by a regular employee, Marcia. I go back in about five days later and now all if the sudden the puppy no longer has a murmur and the vet check of the murmur I was originally shown no longer existed! And yes it was the same woman who told me this. It seems a little fishy to me. She tried to push me into buying the poor sick puppy saying "you oughta know if you want her or not". In my opinion she was very annoying and I was not satisfied with the way she talked to me after clearly lying to me. Heart murmurs are serious and should not be lied about or out lightly. The owner freaked out because I was there with my dogs in the van. I came in and looked around and he was paranoid that I was checking out his store for another reason. He must've seen my face after I look at the puppies. It just made me sad. There were some tiny ones that had trouble walking on the grates that were in the bottom of the crates. It looks very uncomfortable for them. They also needed their nails cut which might have helped. One little black tiny puppy had watery eyes and kept winking them like they hurt. When I left I got in my van and had to look at my GPS. That owner came out and asked me what I was doing and was all paranoid. He ended up cursing at me when I mentioned that some dogs need their nails cut. In addition the store smell horrible. I figure he is paranoid because of something he's doing wrong. Very upset with Petland. I got my puppy and was told I have 6 days to have her seen to lock in her warranty. The soonest I could get in was the 7th day. No big deal, she seemed healthy. We cleared it with the warranty partner, Solutions and we were good to go. Suddenly on Saturday morning (day 5) she started wheezing, hacking and struggling to breathe. I called all 3 vets that Petland has contracts with in my area and asked for an appointment as soon as they opened. I even sat in ones parking lot waiting for a call back that never came. It was in this parking lot that she started vomiting. None of the three vets could get me in. NOT ONE. Meanwhile Solutions won't answer the phone and Petland won't either, just keeps sending me to voicemail. All the while, my 13 week old puppy is struggling to breathe in my arms in the car. I was forced to take her to the emergency vet. They tell me she has pneumonia and she's anemic with a high fever. They immediately put her in an incubator to try and raise her oxygen level. In the meantime I get ahold of solutions who handles the medical warranty of Petland puppies finally and they instruct me that they won't cover it because I'm not at one of the three approved vets. I tell them that none of them would see me and they're all closed tomorrow so if I had waited until one of them could see me she would've died. Then they tell me that they want me to drive an hour away to take her to a vet where she will be covered I told them that this is impossible because she cannot be moved. The oxygen in her blood was below 70% it's supposed to be closer to 95%. Removing her at that time would jeopardize the well-being of the animal. Solutions just says she needs to be made stable enough to move then. Let's just ponder this. In order to stabilize her they will need to treat her. Treatment to stabilize her will cost hundreds of dollars (which won't be covered) Do you think they care? No they don't care even though the vet at the emergency clinic strongly recommended she not be transported based on his medical opinion. Keep in mind if I had just gone straight to the emergency vet without attempting to go to the appropriate clinics I may understand why they won't cover this. But the bottom line is all of these illnesses that she is currently afflicted with occurred while she was in Petland care and I tried multiple times to get her to one of the Covered vet clinics. They all denied me. What is the point of contracting out to specific vets if they can't even prioritize Petland animals. Isn't that the whole point of have that relationship? I even went back to Petland to see if they could help me, leaving my puppy in the care of the emergency vet. I was blown off by the manager, she didn't even come speak to me she sent a sales lady over, who had to keep running back and forth to relay info. Then I was told to call a specific one of the three vets again to explain the situation and they would surely squeeze me in. So I did. I thought if I had to transfer her 5 miles vs 50 I might be able to do that. Then they tell me they don't have overnight vets to care for her after business hours. I ask (puzzled) "well then what do you do if a regular clients animal needs hospitalization?" Her response, "we send them to the emergency animal clinic." That's right. If they had allowed me to bring her in they would have still sent me to the emergency clinic. So needless to say don't trust Petland that they'll do the right thing and abide by their guarantee for the health and well-being of your puppy. This whole morning seemed like a scam. I made dozens of phone calls and drove all over town. And still have no support. They would've had me remove her from her treatment to put her in a car for over an hour which was not in the best interest of the animal. Petland and Solutions are cruel in their unwillingness to make reasonable accommodations in emergency situations. Bottom line, I value the health and wellbeing of this puppy way more then Petland or their warranty service Solutions ever will. read more

I bought my previous dog from Petland in Rockford IL and had no problems with him being sick. I just bought my 2nd puppy from here and it is very sick! It brought home kennel cough and my other dog got it from this puppy. And this puppy also has aspirated pneumonia. I have had him a couple weeks now and we are still fighting the pneumonia. We had to take him to the animal hospital over a weekend because he was doing very poor the 1st week we had him and didn't think he would make it through the weekend. Needless to say we have spent $3000 in Vet bills in the last 2 weeks to get this little dog better and there is no end in sight of when that will be. I called this store to speak to the owner who promptly got nasty with me! I will NEVER buy another dog from here again!! and will encourage everyone I know not to buy a dog from here either. read more

YOUNG IMMATURE CREW: EMMA & YMONI If I could I would give them zero stars, me and my family have been going to Pet-land for over 10 years because of the different items they have. However, on this day we purchased a RAT for our pet snack and once we got the rat to our house within 24 hours the RAT passed away. So we called the store to inform them just to see if they would allow for us to return the $10.81 RAT which isn't a big deal but I figured they would understand. But that didn't happen the young ladies at the store were very nasty and hung up on me after passing the phone around the supervisor, and then back to the front counter. So we decided to head to the store to speak to someone in person and the customer service was even worse in person. They told us since we didn't have insurance on the Rat there wasn't anything they could do (which insurance was never offered) and they wasn't going to give us the money back. We told the lady's that we didn't want our money back we just wanted a new rat. They told us NO and to speak to their general manager because there wasn't anything anyone could do, mind you the supervisor and around three crew members were they at this time. And the bigger issue wasn't being told no it was how they handled the situation as if we were bothering them, very short with us and hesitated to provide the GM information. Nevertheless, we will never and I mean never visit Pet-Land a again. And the management team isn't any better they have such a young crew with poor customer support they were only concerned with talking to their friends and playing with the DOGs. This was a very simply issue that has caused such a large impact, going forward I will deal with our local store and only shop at Wayne's Feed Store located in the heart of the city. This company has been around for years and they still know how to treat their customer's right. So thanks for nothing Emma & Ymoni which is the manager. I am always skeptical about pet stores because of all the horror stories about puppy mills and such, but this Petland location is actually really nice. It's clean, the dogs all seem happy and healthy, but best of all is the customer service. My gf and I have stopped in a few different times to visit the puppies and the employees are always very kind, helpful, and patient with us. If you want a dog, try adopting first. But if you're picky about breeds like I am, then this place is worth checking out. read more

My son and I decided to take a day trip to Rockford and we always stop at Petland. We were just looking and really didnt plan on bringing a new puppy home. We saw a back golden doodle and asked if we could play with her. The sales lady brought her out and as time went on she told us she would give us a deal because she was the only doodle left and the other two sold. I told the lady that we were just looking and would think it over. She soon came back and asked me agian If I was interested and to shoot her a number and maybe we could make a deal. We ended up leaving the store and drove almost two hours home weighing out the pros & cons. The next day I called the pet store and made an offer and back to Rockford we go to pick up our sweet bundle of joy. 3 days after we brought her home she became sick with a bad cough, a green discharge from nose, and could barely breathe. I took her to the emergency room that night. The next day I took her back to the doctor and emergency room again that night. The doctor did chest xrays and both of her lungs were filled with fluid. She was put on an antibiotic, but nothing seemed to work. I was up with this poor dog for 3 night thinking she was going to die on my livingroom floor. I finally made the decision and took her to The University Of Madison. She was in the hospital for four days. The doctors all said how lucky this pup was to have me and if I wouldnt have brought her she would have died. She was diagnosed with kennel cough, severe pneumonia, and influenza. This ordeal was traumatizing. I have never witnessed anything like this before and I have had several other poodles and animals in the past. 4,300. later and all is well .Even though we didnt have much bonding time before she became ill, she was sure happy to see us and glad to come home. This was a very sad situation for the family. read more

This was my first experience with buying a puppy. And i am very disappointed with what happened. They falsified paper work and when i thought we were getting a male puppy, they secretly gave me a female and thought i wouldnt notice. When i tried to bring the dog back after only having her for 5 hours, they said i can only get half of my money back! I had to argue and waste time before they decided to give me my refund. This is the worst place for business and finding a puppy. Not to mention that one of the employees named "Bre" did not go through the paper work properly and did a horible job at explaining it as well. She rushed us, skipping pages and just getting straight to the signatures. She told us it was a male pup before we played with it. Bre knew it was a female and changed the gender to male on the paperwork. This is the worse place to get a pet. DONT GO TO PETLAND BY CHERRYVILLE MALL IN ROCKFORD ILLINOIS. This place is awful. Was there two days ago. Many of the puppies were sleeping on grates. Only the smallest had a mat. They looked so sad and no puppy should have to sleep on grates in small cages. At least give them that one small comfort. Also, the birds that are kept in the very small cages only had one perch in their cages. No toys, nothing else. They can barely move in those awful cages. The finches, who like to nest, were either nesting in their food or on the bottom of the cage. Some cages had 3 or 4 birds in them and one very small perch. Terrible. It doesn't take that much to make it nicer for them. Don't know how these people can say they care about animals. read more

I came in today after leaving Petco due to being ignored for 20 min. I was greeted by a friendly staff and a customers big dog, lol! I went straight to the aquarium section with a water sample and didn't get half way there before an associate (guy with all the tattoos) said: "need water sampled?" After getting the sample taken, I had all my questions and concerns answered by two guys that seemed willing to take the time to make sure I left with everything I needed to know, one of the guys didn't even work there but is a friend of the management. Specifically conrads cuddly canines out of Missouri and when I brought my dead dog in the owner took the envelope of his records and took the paper out that stated he was from conrads .... Extremely appalled by the rough handling of puppies by employees. I asked to play with a puppy, when the employee got him from the cage he carelessly grabbed the puppy with one hand, even though the puppy was too big for that. It looked extremely uncomfortable to the puppy. The puppy had an accident while we were playing with her. He carelessly wiped it up with a rag (no sanitizer) and when the puppy tried to run out of the enclosure he kicked it back in and almost shut the door on its head. To top it all off, we were ready to have the puppy put back in its cage at the same time as some other dogs. This employee proceeded to hold a total of 4 puppies (in very constricting and dangerous positions) and put them back in their cages. Through the glass we watched him drop one puppy all the way to the concrete ground (kicking it on the way in an attempt to catch it). I am so appalled by this treatment of animals. While other staff members were very accommodating and careful and kind to the animals, this employee was rude and absolutely careless with these precious lives. It's not a retail store and you're not handling material objects. These are sweet innocent lives and they're being thrown around and mistreated by sloppy, lazy, disrespectful employees. It was very upsetting to see. I hope to see this worker let go as he clearly doesn't know the value of these lives. read more

My 1 year old puppy from Petland Cherry Vale had a seizure last night, I called Animal Emergency Clinic of Rockford and they told me to bring her in. She had a second seizure on the way to the clinic and died before arriving. The Veterinary Doctor called me at 3:15 AM to notify me that she had died from stroke caused by a epileptic seizure. Petland sold me a dog with a genetic defect, my family is traumatized; I will never purchase again from Petland. read more

I purchased a puppy from Petland of Rockford and have never regretted a decision more in my life. The puppy itself was not the problem, but the company and the employees are. We had been talking of getting another dog for a long time and wanted our current dog to have a friend. Our dog has never had any problems with other dogs in the past. We decided to go look and fell in love with a puppy. We ended up taking the puppy home the same day and very quickly realized our dog was not very friendly with this puppy. When I say not friendly I mean teeth showing, frothing at the mouth, and lunging for this puppy. It was stressing out the puppy and our dog. So we decided that it was best to return the puppy and this is when the problems began. When we were filling out paper work, we were told by an employee that there is a 48 hour return policy. They said that you could either get another puppy or kitten or have in store credit. So that to me means another animal or anything in the store. However they tell me later that no, its only towards another animal. That is simply not an option for us and I'm sure other people as well. So they expect us to pay the whole loan amount for absolutely no goods in return! So trying to take care of the situation I talked to Solutions, which is their third party customer service, and they were not helpful. So we called the finance company itself and unfortunately they had no control, but said that Petland has 100% ability to void the contract or work something out with us. However, even after calling probably over 50 times total in the span of a week, leaving messages, and asking to speak with a manager, I still haven't been able to speak to a manager. I also asked to be connected to the owner of the store, but was told that wasn't an option. The owner clearly doesn't pay attention to anything going on involving the store. All this company cares about is getting money and nothing else. They don't care about their customers or the animals. I Went to this store to purchase a hamster for my daughter and was told by a employee what cage , food ,toys etc to buy. One week went by and I noticed a white powder coming off of the wheel on the cage. I went back to the store and talked with the girl that sold us the cage. I showed her the cage and she told me that the plastic wheels needed time to brake in. She said keep an eye on it and if it continues, bring it back and get a store credit. So the next week after seeing more powder, I went back to the store to get a store credit. I rudely told "no way will we give you a store credit" by the very same employee that told me to bring it back if we were still having issues. I then asked for the manager Rob, he was no more help then she was. Both were extremely rude and not interested in customer service or had a "the customer is always right attitude" I asked for the owners name and called him (Darcey ) the next day. I tried to explain to him what had happened. He didn't even give me time to talk without hanging up on me . I decided to call Petland's Corporate office and leaving 2 messages for someone to call me back . Never received a call back. I will never buy anything from Petland again. The Rockford Petland is owned by a cocky, rude owner that feels he has so many customers he doesn't need to worry about losing this one. Please do not patronize this pet store. Very costly, over a $1000, but the look on her face was worth it. When making the purchase I was told that if anything should happen with the puppy, they would assist, FALSE. We brought the puppy home Saturday, purchased over $200 worth of stuff that Petland recommended for the puppy, and our new member was home. Up all night, cuddled all day on Sunday, then Monday morning up early, puppy was wimpering, went to get puppy from cage, puppy was life less. I immediately started to give puppy small breaths and massaged chest as my husband drove to the after hour emergency care vet. Once we arrived they took her back, did a sugar test, which was normal and a chest x-ray. The chest X-ray showed that her little lungs were full of fluid, Kennel Cough and Pneumonia. The emergency vet would not release us to leave unless we would take the puppy directly to the vet / Petland associated with. I was ok with going to this vet because had used them prior. Once we arrived at the vet the puppy was put in the incubator, and breathing treatments, with possible liver shunt. To say the least the puppy was sick, had to leave the puppy at the vet so they may observe her and give her breathing treatments. I called the owner of Petland/ Darcy, explained the issue and he actually stated that due to us not taking the puppy to one of their 3 vets, which none of the 3 have emergency after hours and recommend to take to the one we did take to, that Darcy/ Petland would not cover the expenses. Darcy then proceeded to say that I may bring the dog back and we could pick out another one. Hello this is not a pair of pants that didnt fit. I re-called today to talk with the owner Darcy and explained that the Liver test came back normal and that they determined that the puppy had severe Kennel Cough. Darcy/ Petland stated that the puppy got it from our home, and stated he would not do anything on the issue. Darcy is the owner of the property of this Petland in Rockford, IL, very rude, but I will not stop here I will be taking this to Corporate, Posting on many sites, and contacting a Lawyer for advice. The puppy is doing better after being hand feed, cuddled, and on meds for 14 more days. I will not take her back to the nasty, unhealthy place. I will put this in God's hands and pray that no one will ever have to go through this. Yes I have a bill for over $800 dollars, and still will be paying the cost of the puppy off, but if this stops Darcy/ Petland from doing this to another person, it will be all worth it.
