I had an AC service appointment scheduled for over a month, and the company cancelled on me an hour and a half after the appointment window was already supposed to start. This was extremely frustrating because my job has very strict limits on work-from-home days, and I used one of my limited allotted days specifically for this appointment. The cancellation was not just inconvenient -- it wasted my time and impacted my work schedule. What made the situation worse was the customer service representative who called me. They were rude, unhelpful, and showed no concern at all for the fact that the company had wasted a customer's time. There was no real apology, no sense of accountability, and no effort to make the situation right. The most disappointing part is that this company requires customers to provide 24 hours' notice to cancel, but apparently does not hold itself to the same standard when cancelling on customers. If customers are expected to respect the company's schedule, the company should also respect the customer's time. Management should seriously review how cancellations are handled and how customers are treated when the company fails to honor scheduled appointments. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this company to anyone who needs reliable service or values their time. read more

I am a customer of many years: First ; I am enrolled in automatic delivery but on Christmas Day woke up to no propane!? Not sure why since I am on automatic delivery. Secondly ; sent out a tech to lock our tanks but no propane delivery. Night two no heat. Lastly; came on 26th and delivered propane- yay! Celebrated too soon , lock still on tanks so we have propane but can't use it. We can't get a person to come unlock tanks till tomorrow. Night 3 without heat. All I can say is get your ---- together! I have called Petro for multiple service calls since 12/2023. The first time I complained about soot above my boiler and an exhaust smell in my basement. The tech said "basements are dusty so soot is normal. The smell is normal as well." He checked the tag on the boiler and saw it was serviced by them 6 months prior. He did nothing during this call and recommended nothing. The next service call I made was an emergency service call. The boiler filled the basement with black smoke and was on fire. We had to shut it off. They told me they could get someone to me in 5 hours. I stayed up all night and called them an hour after the window time to check if they were still coming. They told me no one would be able to come for another 5 hours. Finally tech came out. He did a tune up of the boiler and cleaning. When he told me to turn everything back on, I informed him the upstairs air was not kicking on. He went into the attic informed me the pipes were now frozen. He then left without the heat working. Since tune up, exhaust smell is still strong in basement, and vents upstairs make loud noises all night. I made yet another service call about these issues. Tech comes out says ducts are normal in attic. Opened a vent damper. When I asked the tech about the exhaust smell he said, "oil has a smell". then he checked the power vent and said "this should on and it is not" He did nothing to service the vent. Regardless of Covid, it is seriously bad customer service to run out of gas when I have been a loyal customer on automatic delivery for years, requesting an emergency fill which was miscommunicated a number of times and 24 hours later still waiting for a service tech to do a safety check so I can turn on my heat. Called them 6 times- one call was disconnected and then when they called back, was asked what was my problem and then followed with we'll get someone there in a timely manner. We have a cap contract with Petro, capped at $5.74/gallon. I expect to pay a little bit more than market value because we have a cap. We got an oil delivery today at $5.67/gallon. The rest of the state is between $3.80-$4.25/gallon. Ridiculous price gouging for auto delivery customers. I called to question pricing and basically got "It is what it is." as a response. Oil Price Higher than Highest Spot by at least $.05! I am a 20 year customer. I had a locked in rate of 2.699 through 2017. They didn't tell me I needed to renew until the day after they refilled my tank with 200 gals @ 3.899 per gallon. I called today to see what is up. They offered to lock me in for 12 months at 2.99/gal and give me a $100 credit on that last delivery (I was charged an additional $182 at the 2.99 price). Looking at today's internet pricing, cash deliveries are in the 2.79 range and the official average price is 3.06. So, I see this as bad treatment to a long-term customer. To top it off I have heating and AC contracts with them that will be instantly null and void if I cancel my auto-delivery agreement with them. Be VERY CAREFUL if you are considering Petro. I have been a Petro customer for 31 years. recently had 3 issues with them. one just trying to schedule a yearly cleaning, they were booked out 4-5 months past time frame. had issue with now hot waterr on a Saturday, service man came out and believed he fixed issue but stated if it happens again to call. It happened again, not hot water! called at 8 am to customer service and received a tentative time from 6:30 Pm - 9:30 PM! told them that was unacceptable as they were just here and problem not fixed. appeared representative just kept reading her script . called back and was told the tech (so appears they only have one) is completely booked until they slotted. and then they had the nerve to thank me for being such a long time customer! last time we had an appointment that late, they actually cancelled at 9:00pm! not sure if going to continue when contract up after 31 years. need a company that has enough techs and can service their customers in a timely manner especially since it would be the 2nd time out for same problem. I called Petro Oil earlier today because I was under the impression that our contract was going to expire in April, 2018. I was informed that I was locked into a two year contract until April, 2019 and that if I wanted to cancel, the price would be $799. No where on their website does it say $799 to cancel a contract. I have only seen that it would cost $399 to cancel. This is a scam. Furthermore, I felt that the woman that I spoke with on the phone was very rude to me and wasn't very accommodating or willing to explain. On top of these issues, I have called other oil companies and Petro is by far the highest priced oil company I have spoken with. For paying such high prices, they should have better customer service. Petro is the biggest ripoff in town. We've been using them for 4 years. I'm disabled and 5 months ago my wife was diagnosed with a disabling disease. So our income decreased significantly. We went on a payment plan, which we've been paying every month. We just got notice that there putting it into collection. Also there oil and service contracts are so high priced. Richard's oil was more than happy to work with us. I would never, never recommend Petro to anyone. My heating system broke down on Friday, I called Petro Home services, they scheduled to send someone in the evening. The technician who arrived told me that he does not know anything about the high efficiency condensing boiler and he does not know why he was sent. He tried few things and said he can not do anything and would send someone next day. Same thing happened next day, the technician had no clue of what was happening and promised to send someone knowledgeable on Monday. I was without heat and hot water for 3 days. On Monday the technician arrived and in 5 mins he diagnosed it to be circulator pump not working and needs a replacement. I asked him for price and he said he does not know and I will get it in mail. He got a new circulator pump and replaced it. He was in and out in 2 hrs exactly. After a week I got a bill for 1412.40$, they charged me 1222.00$ for a circulator pump which sells for $93.99 at stores. 1200% markup is ridiculous by any standard. I called to their call center 3 times till now. Each time they tell me the field supervisor will get in touch with me in 24 hours, which never happened. I called around to find fair price for this job, it should be $350 including parts and labor. These people kept me without heat for 3 days for such a simple fix, they should compensate me for that but they want to charge me $1050 more than fair price for such a pathetic service. read more

I have been a customer for 12 years. I knew they were more expensive than other companies, but continued with them (mostly out of laziness). This year, my bill went up like a million %. They also tacked on their annual $499 service charge (they charge you to be on their automatic fill-up program). I called around and found a company that is WAY more reasonable. When I told Petro that I no longer wanted them to service my house, they told me that I had one month left and would be charged a lot of money to terminate our contract. I was a customer of Petro from 1994 to 2017, mostly due to my own laziness. Over the years, while we resided in NK, service got substantially worse and worse. In 2017, having bought a fixer-upper home, I nevertheless contracted Petro to install a new boiler, run new plumbing to existing steam radiators - in short, a rather substantial job. I foolishly believed my loyalty to the company would make a difference. That's when my wife & I discovered how low Petro had gone in terms of quality of both sales and service. The problems started with the salesperson who was, by far, the most unreliable person I have ever come across in any kind of home service company. In fact, I don't even think he would disagree.. he seemed to understand that he was working under horrible circumstances. At first, I just thought that he was a kind of 'survivor' of what can be a tough job after all.. To provide the proper quote for the proper equipment, estimate timing of installation, etc.. Nevertheless, after we signed what we thought was a first contract - we asked for another quote, repeatedly reminding him, and never got anything - he essentially disappeared. For months we would call with no calls back, then when we did miraculously make contact he would make flat-out and infinitely obvious lies about costs and timing,.. just horrible. The details are not interesting but he made countless promises and didn't follow through with anything. Installation was delayed for months and only occurred when I insisted that it be done with the onset of cold weather, in November! We contracted with him in July. When the installers finally showed up they did everything quickly and shoddily, horrible attitude and work, as if they couldn't wait to get their next donut. At one point, the salesperson showed up with his manager, ignored us and literally joked with him about how our fixer-upper project was going to be impossible, even taking a picture of a collapsed barn joking "I've got to show this to [whoever]." Literally chuckling with his manager about our fixer-upper struggle within earshot. 3 years into our little project, we are doing great by the way.. But the memory of our encounter with Petro still haunts us. AFTER ALL THAT, back in 2017, we actually had a Service Contract for the boiler, asked for a cleaning after the first year and never managed to have anyone from Petro to stop by. They were constantly cancelling cleanings that were made months out. For one scheduled appointment I literally saw a Petro truck parked on the side of the road who was apparently "called away" to another service call, as it was explained to me by a Petro service person on the phone. Just crazy. We never could schedule a cleaning. Finally, I just went to another oil company. Absolutely the worst RI company of any kind that I have ever dealt with. You can see that in the other reviews. If they had lower than 1 as an option, I am sure that more would pick that. Sad that there are so many fellow Americans falling so low in their basic human decency and work ethic. Something has gone very wrong within Petro; it really should be a "case study" for deterioration of a local business. What we can clearly see in the reviews - a pattern - is that $ now motivates all for Petro, more than the silly concerns of customers. I have even had phone service people agree with me that there are serious service and management problems.. Absolutely awful service!!!! What's the point in having service contract if they aren't going to fix anything???? The oil is ridiculously over priced compared to other RI companies... When you tell them not to come, they deliver oil anyways and then charge 3.48$ a gallon when oil is under 2.00$ everywhere else. It's now currently 19 degrees out and I have no heat because the technician that came yesterday to fix my furnace clearly did nothing!!!! Let me start by stating that, when I called Petro I was pretty aggravated, due to my dog chewing one of the cords going to my furnace and preventing my system from providing both heat and hot water.......twice in the same day!!!!!. My attitude quickly changed when I was greeted not by an answering machine, but a live, friendly person. During both calls, the persons on the phone were very helpful and quickly pulled up my account and scheduled service for me so that I could get my house back in order. Both ladies helped ease my frustration with a sympathetic ear and kind words given with upbeat attitudes. My great experience continued when both technicians arrived and quickly diagnosed and repaired my problem. They were polite and professional, and I am thankful to them both. I used Petro oil going on a second year. Up to this point, we have called when we see tank low,but they have come before we run out. This time, I dont feel confident. They seem to wait until the last minute to fill our tank. . I called on Monday because our tank is showing less than a quarter of a quarter tank. I was told not to worry they would have someone out by Friday. Its Friday, still nobody showed up.. our tank is now on the red line with sub zero temperatures. They are telling me they will be out tomorrow. They show our tank will run out tomorrow. When I asked to stay on hold to talk to customer service to ensure we are put on a faster rotation going forward, I was hung up on. Not happy, we have been a customer that pays immediately upon invoice. I dont expect to have our tank running so low and be hung up on. Will def b looking to change oil companies ASAP. The costumer service has been terrible over the past 6months. Impossible to get a person on the phone. Have taken much time out of work waiting for service techs to show that never show. When we called. To find out when the service man would show we were told several different occasions that we were not scheduled for service according to their computers wth!. We have gone several days without oil due to no shows and have had several discrepancies with our bill. Again unable to get a representative by phone to resolve these issues. Petro should be shut down. Still no heat to our kitchen because your incompetence caused our pipes to freeze. You closed the valves to the pipes and said a plumber would be sent to professionally thaw out the pipe. At 5 pm on Monday another technician arrived not the plumber. We were assured the plumber would be here in the am. We received a call from the service manager this afternoon who was confused why we needed a plumber, you turned off our heat supply! I have used Petro since I bought my home about 11 years ago. I never had a reason to complain until the last few months. I think they have expanded way beyond their means recently, and their service is absolutely horrific now!!! I had an issue with my boiler making noise... someone actually did show up for that service call. He disagreed with everything the previous technician had done, did this that and the other thing and a few hours later, the boiler was banging so badly I couldn't even sleep. Called for another apt. and couldn't get one for 10 days. Stayed in a hotel for a few nights so I could sleep! Apt.day, due 8am-1pm. Call at 12:30 to check, told they're running behind, but will be there. Also told that the supervisor will call me within the hour. Neither happened!!! I was told a 2nd time the next day I would get a call back, didn't happen. Each call you are on hold for a minimum of 10 minutes. I have been using Petro for Heating and oil for 5 years. I recently requested an A/C tune up and cleaning and did not have great service initially. When I contacted them to explain the issue, the field manager Dave C. made it a point to have everything corrected in a timely way. Skip came out and completed the work and went over what was done before to make sure all was correct. Skip was definitely courteous, friendly and helpful with all of my questions. My only concern is communication of services offered between the people making the appointments. They were not listening to my request for service and gave me an incorrect list of services that I would be receiving. They also listed the wrong date and came out to do service on a day that I was on vacation. The work Petro does is great, clear communication among scheduling and technicians need work.
