We have been using Petro for 31 years. They provide us with oil and service our oil-fired heat and our oil hot water heater, as well as our central air. They have also replaced our AC five years ago and, just recently, our nearly 20-year-old hot water heater. We have an annual service contract which helps give us peace of mind. We are especially pleased when Robert, tech #310, arrives for a service call or our yearly check-up. He is efficient, skilled, and friendly. He provides clear information about any problems and offers effective solutions. He is a great "public face" for Petro. Petro may be a bit more expensive than some of its competitors, but as far as we're concerned it's worth it. read more

I signed an auto delivery contract with them years ago...I cancelled auto delivery but still used them for oil delivery...I had an issue last year with my furnace and called them. They told me too bad for you your a cash customer...what ever that means. Refused to service my furnace....ok fast forward two years three years not sure how long I get a phone call...I have a refund coming for 500.00. Isnt that interesting? Wouldnt service my furnace and I had 500.00 bucks or there about already on my account....Well years later..but would never do business with them again. read more

They came out same day when our water heater and hvac went out because of basement flooding. Robert was great!

Last year they offered a $100 promotion to use their oil service. After two -thtee months I realized they were charging 60 cents more a gallon than their competitors. It been a over a year now and I get monthly statements, telephone calls , surveys which I filled out demanding I return ( or pay) $100 prom fee after I left the company. They made way more than $100 from my oils service. This constitutes harassment! Bad business read more

I called this morning to request help - we had no heat! The phone contact was pleasant, efficient and she promised us service between 1-4 p.m. the same day. Robert, tech #310, arrived about 2 p.m. and had us warming up within about an hour. He was courteous, careful and skilled. What more could a customer want. So grateful. read more

NEGATIVE experience. We signed up with Petro for oil deliveries after buying a home in Princeton. They said they'd fill the tank and light the pilot light. I arranged to meet with them when they came. But when I arrived shortly before the appointed time (quite early in the morning), they'd already made the delivery and were gone. They didn't light the pilot so we had plenty of oil but no heat. When I called, they said they couldn't light the pilot because we had no service contract. But the sale rep we signed up with had made no mention of this and said they'd light the pilot. Probably simple to do, but I had to call somebody else to do this. (Petro also charged us 19 cents per gallon more than another local supplier was charging at the time.) That was just the beginning. We later requested repair service on our boiler and were told we would have to pay both a service fee AND a "diagnostic" fee -- because we didn't have a service contract. So again, we called somebody else. Petro told us oil would be delivered only when we requested it. But once during 70-degree weather they came without my knowledge and filled the tank. I only found out when I got the bill. Curiously, the delivery was made immediately after a spike in oil prices. Then there was the late fee charge, even though we had paid on time. Stuff like this kept happening. Each time I'd call, but the person who answered almost never knew the answer to my questions, even simple things. They typically put me on hold while they consulted somebody else. But when I asked to speak to someone else, there was never anyone available. Finally I'd had enough and contacted them to cancel service effective immediately. (Fortunately we hadn't signed a contract.) Petro then raced over to top off our tank, just to be able to bill us for a few extra gallons. read more

The first guy was a no show, but the second person, a gentleman named Robert, came out when he said he would, and was friendly, very helpful and knowledgeable. We've been a Petro customer for 25+ years...their customer service as well as their home technicians for heating services are outstanding. I called last week to inquire as to the status of a check due. Their customer service (Lisa W Newton PA) exceeded my expectations in her search...she had to delve to find out exactly what had happened. Most pleasant, apologized for the time took for the request to be processed. I believe she over-and-above...she could have said, 'it's been sent for final review,' but no. She retraced all the different processes. Lisa W. made me feel as a valued Petro customer. She is a definite asset to her department as well as Petro. read more

Warning to all Hamilton twsp Petro customers: Good luck because yesterday we woke to no heat and a supposed emergency delivery took over 4 hours to get here after their screw-up! Then we were promised a full delivery yesterday afternoon. Woke up AGAIN without heat!! The normal delivery never came. When I called this morning.... Apparently the first person I spoke to and the laughably called emergency tech LIED because we weren't scheduled for the full delivery until today. And when I called today we were told we were a priority for the so erroneously called emergency delivery. Just got a call and surprise surprise it will be much later for the EMERGENCY delivery! We've been with these people since 1981 and they were informed with each call that an elderly woman lives here. Yet we got BUMPED!!! So we will spend another day in 16° (real feel 3°) freezing house. All because THEY screwed up the original oil deliveries!! If you're thinking of using Petro DO NOT!! If you're are a customer leave them because this can and WILL happen to you!!! This is just disgusting and unacceptable customer service!!! read more

When I called to review my yearly contract I was given a very confusing array of oil pricing choices that not only seemed expensive but not a good deal for me at all. I checked around and found much better pricing locally. I called back to terminate my agreement. I was then shuttled around from sales person to sales person and finally ended up with the "retention" person. He proceeded to keep me on the phone for a long time trying to sell me a better deal but actually never came close to what a local dealer had. Did not appreciate their high pressure sales even when I told him I had to get going for an appointment. Very unhappy with this companies way of doing business. Would not recommend. read more

Petro Supervisor and Team Are Best In The Business...jus' sayin' A little over a week ago I found out I had water in my oil burning heating system. I called Petro, my oil company and they sent a Tech, Dan who came out and identified the problem. He hooked my burner directly up to a 5 gallon oil tank so that we would have heat overnight. He said his supervisor Rob would call me to discuss next steps...and he did. Rob scheduled a remediation team to come to siphon the water out of the tank but because it got cold they were delayed with emergencies. In the meantime to keep the heat on in my home Rob scheduled the 2nd Tech Bobby who came and dropped a 30 gallon drum and filled it with oil and came back every other day to check it, to see if it needed to be refilled. I gotta tell you-I never thought much about Petro as a company, until I had a real problem. Well yesterday Rob had the remediation team come and pump the water out of the tank. In the evening (making it convenient for me) the 3rd Tech Dan came and re-connected the main heat AND BY HIMSELF, had to take the 30 gallon drum (WITH OIL STILL IN IT) up the winding stairs from the cellar, through the hallway, out the front door, down the steps, and across the street to the truck. Yes he did! Over the past week, while all of this is going on I was consistently getting texts from Rob with updates, and calls from customer service personnel. I was getting alerts on my email. I am and was so impressed by the TEAM, I text'd Rob and asked what I could do to acknowledge their outstanding and professional effort. He said to use Yelp because Petro Management pays attention to Yelp reviews. Message to Management...I hope so because Rob, Dan, Bobby, and Dan have elevated my opinion and loyalty to Petro beyond what I would have considered possible before this experience. I have only good things to say about Petro! My dad was a loyal customer for decades, and he was a very satisfied customer. Days after he passed away, my brother and I unexpectedly lost heat in the house, and my contact, Barbara D, and the service techs were all prompt and incredibly helpful. Then, during the house closing, we unexpectedly needed a fast reading on the oil remaining in the tank, and I was hundreds of miles away in Ohio. Again, everyone came through in just hours to make it happen, and sent me a phone photo image of the reading as well. We had used Petro Home Services, Princeton, NJ for oil delivery at our Company's heated garage for years and never had any problem with a delivery. That all changed when our gas furnace died last October. I contacted several installers and was impressed with the Petro salesman and price. While the installation went without a hitch, a second emergency shutoff switch which was included in the contract was not installed. This was corrected but we began to have problems once the work was inspected on January 23rd by Ewing Twp. The electrical installation failed due to what parts were used as well as the fact that some of the work (second emergency shut off switch) wasn't included on the permit application. I emailed Petro that same day with the items that had to be addressed. While the work was done within a week I waited for the township to call for a re-inspection. After 2 months I contacted Petro and was told that townships are slow in processing permits and they would get back to me after contacting the township. After another month I contacted Petro again and again a week later for an update. Finally on May 27th I was informed that the township needed a form from the electrician and would then approve the permit. After another 2.5 months I contacted my township directly to see what was going on. I learned that on May 21st the township had approved the permit application and would need a check for $51 for the fee. This was followed up by a fax the next day. When I told Petro that on August 13th, no one said that the township had to be mistaken in effect admitting that they lied about the form. I was informed that the check would go to the township ASAP. Well on Sept. 9th I finally received the new permit. If the first issue wasn't enough I determined that we had been overbilled by Petro for the furnace by $400 (it offered an interest-free installment plan). After informing Petro of this fact and following up twice we finally after over two months received the check. When we purchased the furnace at the end of October it came with a free one-year service agreement. On July 25th, three months before the one-year had expired, we received an invoice for a service agreement payable on demand and a follow up invoice one month later. I had never been contacted by Petro to see if I wanted this service agreement. Integrity and honesty are the first assets you should look for in a vendor Based on my experience these are sorely lacking at Petro and we will never do business with it again. read more
