Called Erica A. in customer service about purchasing a new AC unit. Wow ! She is so knowledgeable and very pleasant to speak with. Customer Service like this is unheard of any more. She got the service technician out to check our current unit. The technician inspected and for a 23 year old unit " it is working great". However, we don't want to wait until it goes out; so we asked Erica about replacing it. She sent out a great salesman, Don Pesante. He took his time, explained every option and gave us quotes. He did not pressure us in any way. He gave us his card and said when we were ready to give him a call. I just can't say enough about these two professional employees of Petro. when we first moved into our home we had set up a service contract with them. The company came out an did a repair on my oil unit that costed me about 200$. They sent 2 Techs to do this job and both missed a major issue with the unit and I had to get a local company to come out and fix what could of burned my house down. that costed me 1200$ The automated system is garbage. And the staff can't seem to notice notes I have given in my account. Last year alone they came out twice in a month to fill and costed me over 2 grand. To me that is Highway robbery. I had 2 other technicians come out to fix my heating issue with my boiler. each of them left with the system not functioning proper. Anthony Tech #222 was amazing! I never honestly take the time to give a review. But he was amazing he came out a 9:30 and worked till after 1am troubleshooting and fixing all he could on my old system. He was able to see and diagnose issues the other technicians just passed over. He was able to explain the few things he could not fix so that I can get an electrician out and explain it to them. He was patent, professional, honest and skilled. Performed service on a Saturday evening after hours (great) with a $50 extra fee (Total "diagnostic fee $149.95, which I accepted to get tech to see me). After replacing a transformer available online retail for $35 I was charged 10X mark-up for the part ($341) for a total of $490.95. Spoke to manager, Ray, who explained that I was lucky to get the after hours service (yes, though I paid for it!) and that the high parts price was reflective of the after hours appointment. (What? Not according to the technician, who just said they bill like that, period). This is the 2nd time I've had a billing issue with Petro and the 2nd time my perspective was flatly dismissed. I needed to have my heating and air conditioning system replaced so i was in the market for quotes. Petro was the second company that I met with and the equipment specialist, Don, gave me confidence they would be the best for the job right away. He was able to review the current equipment I had in order to determine some of the reasons why it wasn't working properly, as well as coming up with the best solution for a new system. There was no sales pressure after the quote was prepared, and I decided after a few days to move forward. I forgot to mention this was almost 50% less than a quote I got from one of the biggest names in HVAC which also helped my decision. I dealt with Matt in the equipment department and he did a great job orchestrating all of the next steps like follow-up appointments, ordering of the equipment, and getting an install team assigned right away. The install team we're very professional with great attention to detail through the installation. They found an issue with some wiring and we're able to address it on the spot. The system was installed in less than a day and has brought total comfort back to my home. I even got a follow-up call a few days later to make sure every thing went smoothly which was also a nice touch. I'm so glad I chose to give Petro a call. Petro home services is a good company to do business with for your home energy needs. They have an excellent customer service record with my family and home. On a cold winter day in 2019, we lost heat. Our old boiler had a problem and lost all of its water. Petro sent a technician out, he diagnosed the issue, went to a local hardware store in minus 10 degree weather and fixed our issue that same day. I was very impressed, we would have needed to stay with relatives or a local hotel for that day and night if not for Petro. I have been a customer for over 15 years. Their customer service is the best. Never had a problem getting a tech out. They kept my furnance running long past its expected life. Whenever I call, the reps are friendly and informative, and thank me for being a loyal customer. Today I renewed my contract for yet another year. Patty, the service rep, did not disappoint. 1) Pricing is good, use their budget pay service because I hate paying for 250 gallons of oil in one shot, rather spread out the payments over several months. 2) They stand behind their service agreements if you get a contract. My system went down in mid of last year and they were here at 3am in the morning getting it up and running again. 3) I dont have to be home or checking my gauge to know if I get a delivery. They know when my tank is low. NEver run out of oil or since I Been a Petro customer 15 + Years. One negative thing , should have been 4 stars, but Ill keep it at 5. If you could give 0 stars, I would. I am extremely unhappy with this company; I feel as though they completely took advantage of the fact that my boyfriend & I are first time home buyers. I called & spoke with a salesman who signed me up with no problems. At first, I was very excited about them, as he talked about how personable the company is, blah blah. I signed up for the Premier service plan. Our first oil delivery was on 1/2/18, & our tanks were filled. This cost us $565. We noticed that we had to refill our water feeder on our boiler very often, which did not seem normal. We had someone come out to diagnose what was wrong -- it ended up being a leak in our water boiler. At this point, we were not yet living in the house. We had owned the house since 12/29/17. So we needed time to think about what decision we were going to make (whether we wanted to stick with oil & fix it, or switch to gas). We let both the person who diagnosed it AND the sales person that came that same day know that we needed time to figure out what we were going to do. As a reminder, we have owned the home for not even a full week at that point, & we weren't living in the house yet (we were still painting). On 1/22/18 (20 days from the initial oil delivery), we received ANOTHER oil delivery that was for $289. I was FURIOUS. We should NOT have received another delivery, because we didn't even know if we wanted to keep the oil tanks. I called Petro, & they told me that I was supposed to call them to let them know we were still deciding & that we wanted to put a hold on delivery. WHY would I call Petro to tell them that, when they had NOTED IN THEIR SYSTEM that we were still deciding?? On 1/15/18 there was a note in the system saying that we still did make a decision. MIND YOU, no one let us know that we were supposed to call anybody to let them know we wanted to stop deliveries. To add to this, we had ONLY been living in the house for a week. We moved in on 1/14/18, & still at this point, did not know what we were going to do. When I called to cancel, they told me that I still had to pay the Premier yearly fee of $225 (estimation) since someone came out to our house to diagnose our boiler. I refused to pay this entire amount since no one did anything at our house except tell us what was wrong, & instead Jose (who was the nicest person I spoke with at Petro) was able to have us only pay the $59 diagnostic fee. We were completely taken advantage of. Why do the different departments of Petro not communicate with each other? Why does Sales not communicate with the Delivery people or put a note in the system saying "customers are undecided, please stop delivery at this time"?? (Side note - there WAS a note from 1/15/18 saying that we still did not make a decision). Why did everyone at Petro BLAME ME for this, because I DIDN'T KNOW that we were supposed to CALL Petro about stopping delivery, even though Petro ALREADY HAD a note in the system saying that we didn't know if we wanted to keep oil. Common sense would be "let's not deliver oil to these customers until they tell us their decision" or "let's call them before we delivery to confirm that this is what they want." We are ultimately paying Petro for oil we do not want to use, since we have NOW decided we want to convert to gas. The additional $289 of oil that we did not want now has to be used & paid before we convert to gas. Now, we have been unable to finish furnishing our house because Petro sent us oil we did not want. This additional charge also ultimately postpones our ability to convert to gas before winter ends. This is our first time buying a house, first time having oil heat, first time dealing with a home services company. I explained ALL of that to our initial sales person, who assured me that we would be taken care of & everything would work out. Instead, we were taken advantage of. We didn't know the proper guidelines, everyone I spoke with at Petro blamed me for not doing the right thing. How were we supposed to know that? Why wouldn't the MULTIPLE people we spoke with tell us that? I will NEVER use Petro again, nor will I ever recommend anyone use them. All they want is their money & their commission; they don't care about you or your home or your well-being. Beware people. They just want your money; and they DO NOT deserve it. read more

This is the most despicable company. on 8-21-17, They tried to charge me $700+++ for a .29 cents part. If I was unaware I would have paid, not knowing I was being robbed. A wire fell off an electrical connection, pointed out to me by the tech was I was paying $90 for the service call (not a problem)., actually looked like the connector rusted off, rather that try and put a new wire connector on the end, the tech insisted I had to buy a new part and possibly an entire new AC unit. I put the new connector on myself in front of the tech & the AC started working fine. I am sure they are ripping people off daily. I requested a call from the president of the company with no response...They actually had the nerve to hand me a review card and ask for a positive reiew . How disgusting! We were left with an empty tank no heat all weekend and no service available. But I am still receiving service bills and late fees. Ridiculous !! Petro won't honor a verbal legally binding quote I received from their own cs who set up the appointment. How am I being treated? Horrible. Supervisors are not getting back to me and they don't believe their own customers although their is no way I could have the insider information I had without being told it. Over a week and a half later, still no resolution. Guaranteed if I was a man, the quoted price (before they made the appointment and agreed to the service) would have been honored on the first phone call once I brought it too their attention. What are they doing for me? They said they would check their 'recorded phone lines' to see if I'm being truthful.. nice company.. Two weeks later, still heard nothing from them...It should not be the customers issue nor responsible that their representatives are quoting customers wrong pricing before paying customers are making fiduciary decisions before agreeing and scheduling a service through Petro. You really find out how honorable or dishonorable a company is when you actually have a problem with them. Now almost two weeks later, nothing resolved because they simply don't care and want me as the customer to pay double, which I'm not doing. I guess tomorrow I start my endless phone calls again trying to get an answer and frankly, I want to hear the phone recording as well. Disgusting treatment. I already put in a complain with my oil membership company who deals with petro and recommended me to them....okay Jenna. Second complaint put in today 2-17-22. All I can say is that I wish I had known about this company years ago. If you feel like you are living in Bizarro World with a stream of criminals, hustlers and guessers walking through your house, entering their realm of guesses, mistakes and bluffs, call Petro and get relief fast. Firstly, if you use oil, you may have learned that this is getting to be a less common mode of fuel energy. Our previous service calls (charging $135-185 per hour, mind you) were happy to take the money but I caught one guy furiously googling to try and solve the problem, while whisper-yelling at his dispatcher for sending him in the first place. (Diagnosis: replace furnace.) The first good thing about Petro is that their interest is in line with yours -- since they require a service contract, it is in their financial interest to make sure that your furnace is running smoothly all the time. The workers are also all trained. They did not get it right the first time, either. It took three visits, 15 minutes each, and it turned out to be very minor. They were gentlemen. I loved signing the invoice for due: $0.00. Secondly, they are 24/7. Can you believe that there is actually still an NJ company that doesn't act like they are doing you a favor by doing their job? Anectodally -- While it is pathetic that all the crooks (look out for the guys that bring their own petri-dish air filters to demonstrate that you need to get yours changed!) I've had to deal with (probably called 10 local companies over the years?) struck me as NJ- or NY- born and bred (yes I can tell), Petro's guys had foreign accents -- and were the very picture of the best of the American workforce, professional, quick, well-educated, conservative and creative-thinkers. This fortifies my sense that immigrants who love what America stands for, to them, is what keeps this country great. You do need to buy oil from them as well to use their services, but their pricing is fine and you can order as low as 150 gallon increments if you want. We've been a Petro customer for 7 yrs. This AM was the 2nd time we've been stuck with an empty oil tank on a freezing cold day despite a service contract & auto delivery. Oil was promised to be delivered today, but they never showed up. Finally, after 4 calls & being on hold for a total of 3+ hours, they've promised a serviceman would bring 10 gallons TOMORROW to hold us over until they can schedule a full delivery. Don't be left out in the cold! Get your oil from someone other than Petro. They obviously don't value their loyal customers. read more

Petro has me on a "budget", and the bill I received from them for June shows a credit balance, and therefore no charge was due. Then in July I got their bill for the budgeted amount, even though my account balance was still a credit (obviously I did not use any oil in a summer month, so no real cost was incurred). It must be nice when a company can ask you to pay for a product you did not use, so that they can earn interest on your money. I recently got a bill in August, as well, even though the same credit balance is on their books. Before you know it you will have paid HUNDREDS of dollars adding to your credit balance, which Petro can obviously invest for themselves before the heating season even begins. (Nov 13/2017) As Mr. F said, Petro is a Despicable company. Over the last several months, I have received a ton of mail from Petro and phone calls/vm every single day. My fault, I didn't bother to open the mail & just deleted the vms since I knew I didn't owe them any money nor did I want oil which I assumed the mail and phone calls were all about - ordering oil. Last week, I finally opened one of the letters only to find it was a bill for a service contract for $169.99 plus over $20 in late fees. (A) I never signed up for a service contract (B) I didn't know I had one. I called Petro to ask about it and was told it was an automatic renewal since I had one last year. I was annoyed but agreed to the contract since I was having trouble starting the furnace. The woman told me the contract gave me one free cleaning but I would have to pay for parts; she removed the late fees bringing the bill back to $169.99. So the Service Man comes on Thursday, cleans a hose that goes to my oil tank and he checks other things for maybe 40 minutes or so and the furnace is working great - he was very nice. Upon leaving, he said, they'll be mailing you a bill for $265 - I say for what?, I have the service contract and you didn't replace any parts; he said, Oh, the SC only gives you 10% off of the bill. What's 10% off - certainly not worth $170 to me. I call Petro, cancel the contract, and the woman I spoke with said they would credit my $169.99 back to my credit card and she would give me an additional $25 off of the bill for the misunderstanding. Well here it is 5 days later and I still haven't received the credit so I just called Petro only to be told they can't credit me back the money because I have a balance of $265 with them so they applied the money to that bill. I say, they never sent me a bill, I don't know what I'm even paying for, how can they just take my money without even sending me a bill, especially since the woman I spoke with said they would credit my credit card back. So the lady I just spoke with said, Oh, you'll only have to pay $95 now since we applied this to your bill. I, personally, think this is robbery. (A) I never gave them permission to do that (B) I never saw a bill yet (C) don't even know if I'll agree to why I'm being charged $265 One last thing, I did need oil last week, Petro's price was $2.66 per gallon. I found another company, called Atlantic Oil who were terrific an only charged $2.21 per gallon and if I bought more oil it would have been even less. My family has been a loyal Petro customer for over 40 years but I'm done with them. Also, I asked how much would a furnace cleaning be if I didn't have a contract (free w/contract) she told me it would be $200++ something, there was a person on Saturday in Home Depot who said they did oil furnace cleanings, filters, etc for $128. Petro Home Services left a delivery note on December 17, 2015, letting us know that they did not deliver oil due to a potentially faulty fuel tank. One of their technicians visited the site the next day and informed me I still had 3/4 of a tank left (due to a very mild autumn) and was not at risk of shortage, but that the tank was unsafe and I needed to change it. In January, Petro proceeded to bill us for a delivery that was supposedly made on December 18, 2015 (in an unsafe tank?). When contacted to dispute the bill, since they did not deliver any oil, Petro's excuse was that the bill was based on past usage. They were unable to provide a copy of the delivery slip which is a regulatory requirement. When given particulars about the non-delivery, the delivery manager proceeded to lie using the information that I gave him. I provided Petro with a copy of their own notice of non-delivery due to a unsafe tank. Petro is not able to provide back-up for their delivery claim and has repeatedly refused to cancel the invoice. It is difficult to understand why they insist that they poured oil into an unsafe tank, since this would be a much more egregious fault. June 20, 2016 - after much hesitation, I thought I would give Petro another chance to make good on this. I had to call twice. Business owner named Jenna seems to be unknown to the customer service staff. Does Petro have a dedicated person whose job it is to manage bad reviews and put lipstick on the pig, so to speak? one wonders... There is a Rosa in customer service, but the goal of the response of Yelp was certainly not to reach an agreement. Does anyone know who Petro's insurance company is? they will be thrilled to hear Petro poured oil into an unsafe tank, which, as surprising as it is, is their position. read more
