In June a friend of mine found a mama and 5 kittens outside her home. She contacted me for the best rescue to take them to. I highly recommended AOS. My friend stated that she wanted to keep the mama but was advised by AOS that the kittens could not be accepted without mama and that their best chance for survival was to keep them together. She did the right thing and gave them to AOS but made it very aware to them that once babies were medically ready she was going to adopt mama. Well just this past week babies were ready and my friend was ready to bring home her furever fur baby. That did not happen, favoritism was given to a volunteers niece. My friend submitted the correct paperwork for the adoption, showed up at Petsmart with her new cat carrier only to find out that someone else was taking her home. Now mind you, I was told the night before by the volunteer that she explained the situation to the niece and the niece understood that the cat belonged to my friend....that same niece was at Petsmart and due to being friends with the adoption counselor she ended up with the cat. My friend stood there with tears in her eyes and and empty cage. If you feel you want to adopt from such an organization be my guest, but apparently their word means nothing. Plenty other honorable rescues out there, I suggest you go elsewhere....if you scroll down you will see other stories similar ...guess it's about who ya know rather then keeping your word

I adopted a horse from this shady rescue with a terrible "lifetime belongs to the rescue" contract,…read more being told they would be there to help for the lifetime of the horse as well. I trained him up, gave him a job and skills. He became part of my family and my kids bonded with him I paid for an expensive surgery when he got hurt. Then he started showing signs of abnormal behavior changes and severe aggression. I asked the rescue for help and eventually when they did not help and when he severely and relentless attacked and almost killed another horse at my barn, I decided I needed to return him for the safety of him, other horses, and my kids. After bringing him back in tears, the owner/president relentlessly attacked me in messages, on Facebook, wherever she could. She accused me of lying, turned friends against me, bashed my name wherever she could. It hurt me so badly to lose him and to be attacked I had depression for months. Not to mention given she supposedly works for another job I don't know how she thinks she can behave like such an unprofessional bully. I learned not to trust rescues but if I rescue I do it myself.

My boyfriend and I just recently started going here to get a specialized food for one of our dogs that Angels with Tails only sold. We were pleasantly surprised just during our first visit. A sweet lady, who owns both the pet store and resale shop beside it, is very knowledgeable about what your dogs should and shouldn't be eating based on their size, breed, and specialties. To test her, I suggested that we needed Canidae for our dog who has a sensitive stomach, which is the furthest thing you should be feeding your dog with that problem. Straight away, she told me not to get that and to get Nutrisca (which is why we were there). She explained why we should be feeding our dog Nutrisca and not Canidae, which no other pet store owner/worker had felt the need to explain. After showing up where we could find our dog food, she suggested a few treats/bones for our dogs to chew on. A great saleswoman and also, again, very knowledgeable about pets. Now we always go here to get our pet needs. :) I would highly recommend this place!

They responded pretty quick and told us the pups were going to be at an event they were hosting. They gave us the times, days and location. We went and got to meet him and ask any questions we had and then were able to make our decision and follow thru with the adoption. The process was very easy and they walked through all the steps wonderfully. It never felt rushed. We were able to get our pups paperwork and vet records up to that point. The rescue covers the cost of the neuter/spay if the pup is not yet fixed which was very nice. The process of scheduling that was very simple. The team and K9's4u is so helpful and kind. We love our pup so much and would definitely recommend adopting thru this rescue!

It is so helpful to have someone you can ask questions of, to reassure and comfort you at a fraught and emotional time. Every criteria we had was met and exceeded: we wanted Maggie to feel no fear, to have unhurried time with her, to have a clear understanding of what was going to happen, to say goodbye on our terms. Maggie simply and immediately accepted Dr. Kriner's presence, decided she welcomed pets and affection from this sweet person she had never met. The only focus was Maggie, to have her feel complete love surrounding her, to let her enjoy cheeseburgers and chocolate, pets, hugs, kisses, many words of love, to make certain she knew exactly how special she was and always would be and that we were grateful for her life with us. There is no avoiding how heartbreaking a time it is, but to have a precious fur baby handled with love, calmness, gentleness, respect and care is an enormous comfort. We are so profoundly grateful for Dr. Kriner. She returned Maggie's ashes to us with the same compassion with which Maggie left our home. They have new management the last several years and as someone who works at the kennel they house…read moretheir rescues, I can tell you that I see their operation up close and having worked with several breed rescues over the years, that they are beyond exceptional. They are careful about adopting the dogs out but they get a lot of repeat and multiple boxer adopters for a reason. These dogs do not get returned because it wasn't a great fit. And they get the dogs turned around and into loving homes remarkably quickly. They take the dogs out of their kennels for of the day into play yards, on walks or outings, put them all thru obedience training, and continue the support for adopters once the dog has been adopted. They have a great group of volunteers as well. They will be honest about the needs of the dog, and if the one you got excited about looking on their website isn't a great fit, they will introduce you to dogs that might be, often leading to a great result for everyone. Please take some of the negative reviews from years ago with a grain of salt. Those people are no longer running the rescue and the ones who have been for last 3 years are a joy to work with. (PS - I fostered a hospice boxer/pittie for them and their support was fantastic the entire time I had her).

My dog was sniffing something and it was a baby bird lying on the ground looking up at us scared and frantic. I had a baggie in my pocket and laid the baby bird and decided I had to help it. I was sent to Lakeland animal shelter who could not help me. I was furious and went myveterinarian's office and they also couldn't help the little bird but they called Fellow Mortals for me. I waited probably close to 2 hours in their waiting room and they assured me that Fellow Mortals WOULD call back and they did. I dropped the little bird off and they called later to tell me he was doing well. He was a baby grackle bird. I can't thank them enough as I frantic to get this bird help. They were wonderful. I have a very special little dog who…read moreneeds a lot of training and attention to help overcome her behavioral challenges and they not only understood what to do immediately, we've been making steady progress since we first met everyone. The convenient Wheaton location of the facility is great for daycare and they also allow for half-day daycare too. Very flexible scheduling. When I pick my dog up, I can tell that she's received personalized attention from the staff and that she has been well cared for. Often she's been able to work one-on-one with a staff member for nearly all of her half-day session. We also attend the group classes which are incredibly unique and let my dog build up practice interacting with other dogs in a way that reinforce new, good behaviors. My neighbors are thrilled with the progress almost as much as I am - my dog no longer automatically barks at everyone outside now and is able to make new friends. The in home training we did originally was incredibly valuable to get us started on the right foot. We need to do that again very soon! Is it the least expensive daycare and/or training in the area? No. But it is ABSOLUTELY worth it. When I leave my dog in the care of The Canine's Voice I know that she's going to be safe, loved, and will learn a few things while she's there. The classes are incredibly valuable too. The results speak for themselves.
