Very rude cashier - Kristina. Management does nothing about complaints. Not always fresh dairy products.

Clearly no one in management reads these reviews, they probably don't even understand how to use a computer, so this is for any future customers reading this. I've been going here for years and never had a problem. The cashiers tend to be rude, yes, they have the old Soviet attitude where you're doing them a favor by shopping there. It's actually kind of refreshing compared to American stores with their fake American smiles if that's your thing. But today was a novel experience: I went into the aisle of condiments and there was a big guy in a Petrovsky outfit, short hair, glasses, kind of bug-eyed, packing the shelves, that refused to move when I asked him politely if I can go by. I then stood there and when he needed to go by me, he didn't say a word, just stood almost breathing in my face! I stood there for a few moments because, frankly, I was angry that he now wanted to pass by me when he wouldn't let me pass. I moved in to the shelf, there was an old couple also busy before him. So he stood in back of them breathing down their necks. What is this? He didn't say a word, just stood there staring at them. Was he was a mute or had his tongue cut because they were low on meat in the deli department? They were also surprised by his behavior. Then he decided to move against me, pushing me a bit. I don't know what the story is with this clearly very pathetic life probably making $7 an hour, but that he is unhappy is obvious. I swooped in there again later and he was gone. My advice: watch out for this four-eyed golem if you go there. I could have complained to the management but given that this is an Eastern European store with Soviet tendencies I would 100% be ignored, that's for sure. Petrovsky Market now has more than rude cashiers to worry about. read more

First, I think it's fair to warn you that I drove over an hour to go here: so much do I value what a good Russian Grocery Store has to offer, and a good Russian Grocer this certainly is! They have the largest selection of frozen Pelmeni I have ever seen and they even serve fresh Pelmeni in the back at their extensive food counter. They offer a large variety of Eastern European (mostly Russian) foods; hot, cold, baked, fried, you name it! The ambience a little cramped among the packed shelves and the bustling customers, but that's part of the experience just like not hearing a syllable of English inside the store save what you speak yourself. I was out getting a ultrasound at Einstein Center One and decided to stop at Petrovsky Market which is in the next block. It was funny how I never noticed that most things are written in English and another language. I do believe that language is Russian. Forgive me, but I was born and raised in the United States and not familiar with the language or the culture. This didn't deter me at all, plus the employees were very helpful. Petrovsky isn't as big as a full size market, but still a nice size. they are very well stocked and you can find most things that you are looking for. I was most impressed with their meats (good prices) and their bakery. I don't know the pronunciation of most things but they looked delicious. I just pointed at what I wanted and they were more than happy to help me. They also have a nice deli counter, Produce dept. and frozen foods. I would definitely go back if I'm in the neighborhood. Well I reviewed this years ago. A little update- Moldova closed years ago. Too bad , it was good. Since my first review I've become a lot more immersed in Northeast Philadelphia . I've been to both Bells and Netcost many times . I have the customer cards for both. So is there any point in Petrovsky? Yes! For one thing I discovered their bread today and it's very good.,My wife bought some hamentaschen imported from Moldova. I said oh no! They're going to be real stale. You get them from Brooklyn. My friend went to Russia this summer and just had to show me all the cuisine he tried, so we came here by car on a sunday to grab as much as we could find! Russian food has never been on my radar, until I made my way over here. There are 3 or 4 markets like this in the area, but this one had a lot of recommendations. First, the cheese and deli selection is phenomenal. Awesome prices compared to the city, with fully Russian speaking workers and customers. The aisles were full of authentically branded cans, candies, cookies, rice and pastas, with ask good prices on fresh veg. I came for the pilmenys (like an eastern ravioli filled with veal, another with chicken, etc) and the Georgian dumplings. For 2.99 a pound, awesome find. There's also a hot food bar and a dessert area, which led me to trying a few things I would've never been able to. To be straight, the food features a lot of fish, beets, mayonnaise, and puff pastry-- all of which are awesome together! Will be coming back as soon as my pilmenys are gone-- which is likely very soon. read more

This is a European grocery store and if you're of Eastern European decent or looking for Russian/Ukrainian/Polish/etc food, you will definitely find it here! They have tons of different brands in each food category. This was my first time visiting and I was very happy with the food selection, but inside it can feel a little cramped to move around the store if you're going during busy hours. I found everything that I wanted and was pleasantly surprised by the large variety of breads and pastries they make in store. I can definitely see myself coming back here even if it's an hour drive for me. read more

Happened to discover, this market has verity of everything. You could find ravioli and fresh sliced meat as well as fresh made bread and bakery products. My experience while shopping here is good although a bit of a luck of management here I noticed. I keep my receipts every time and try to compare with other Russian Stores, it it comparatively the same but the convenience to shop here rather than bigger shops in he area. read more

This is my favorite Russian store, much better than others. Can't say enough good things about it. The quality of prepared food is oustanding. I have one request though. If the owner is reading this, PLEASE bring back the old school wafers that you always had in the sweet snacks section! The ones that have thick layers of filling and are wider than the ones you have now. They were the primary reason I started going to Petrovsky from the beginning. None of the other stores had them, and now they are gone from Petrovsky too! Can't say how disappointed I am about this. read more

I like this market a lot. In this neighborhood, there are many Russian/Eastern European markets to choose from and this one is definitely one of the smaller ones. They do have a lot of great stuff and I feel like they are more polite to non-Russians here than some of the others in the neighborhood. I usually go to the markets with my wife, who does speak Russian so there may be some bias with that. As far as selection goes, they have a nice large deli, but it is mostly with pork products. So if you don't do pork, you won't have many options. If you do like pork, you'll be as happy as a pg in its own filth. The prepared food is good, although they don't have possibly my favorite Russian food, the crepes with mushroom, chicken and dill. Love those. They have fantastic salads and excellent spinach pies, cheese pies, meat pies and kabobs. There is also a bread room filled with lots of fresh bread and rolls. A nice produce section with excellent prices. Everywhere you turn, you find interesting things you haven't seen before. I like it a lot. read more

Great selection of amazing quality food. Includes some cheap American food, but mostly Russian! It is delicious! The service is hectic and fast... remember you are in Russian world. What a bad experience at Petrovksy market deli I got today. Despite I like their food in "kulinaria" (deli), the customer service at the counter is horrible. Do not ask many questions! She won't like it & tell you that into your face. Just bare it in mind when shopping there. read more

I worked at this place. I'm great with customers. I did my training. But after closing down the register, if I'm missing a dollar, the owner and the manager will curse me out. I've watched them curse and drink in their office. It's terrible! Managers treat their workers really bad. I admit that the food is great though. read more

after being a loyal fan of Bells Corner Market for as long as i can remember.....over 25 years, i have discovered a place 1,000x better than them in Petrovsky's market. the quality of their cooked foods is EXCELLENT! their service was very pleasant. my only complaint is that such a great store is so small. hopefully they can buy the former restaurant next door and EXPAND.
