I am so happy I found this place. I remember the first time I came in (and every time after) the owner and employees were so friendly,helpful, and knowledgeable. They are always willing to take the time to help. I had been going to a chain pet store for years until I found out this was a local family owned and operated business. My dog can literally eat only one flavor of one brand of dog food and they always have it in stock which actually was an issue at the chain pet store I used to shop at. I really appreciate that they have a club card for $5 off as well. I recently used the groomer for a nail clipping and I have a very anxious dog but the groomer was wonderful and very sweet to my dog. Also there was a time that I got off work late and really needed food for my dog so I called and Logan kept the store open about 10 or 15 minutes late so that I could get some food. Honestly, this place is not that great unless you have no idea what you want to buy. The staff was very friendly and the environment is nice but the prices were kind of ridiculous, at least the things I looked at. I know that you won't get as much of a warm welcome at a Petsmart but the prices there are WAY lower. If you're just looking for a nice place to shop, this could be good for you but I'm on a budget and it's not really worth the extra cost or the much smaller selection. read more

I have recently become a "cat lady" this past year. And like any proud pet owner, you want to make sure your baby get's the very best it deserves. Pet's General Store provides a wide variety of all the latest and greatest healthy foods for your dear pals. I can only speak fairly about the abundance of cat necessities- it's great! I get my cats Premium Choice cat litter, Felovite vitamins, Orijen cat food, Weruva wet food, Greenies treats, and other random things like brushes/combs, leash, litter deoderizer etc etc. BUT you know what's even better? The quality of customer service. This is why i love and support local business. Right when you walk in you are greeted and asked if help is needed- and everyone there is VERY educated about absolutely everything there and will definitely always give you their personal experience with it. And honestly, they are not overbearing in the slightest. I love going in there! OO! Also- for certain foods- like the Orijen I get- There's a save the proof of purchase for a free bag eventually kinda deal, and the people there keep an envelope FOR you to save the proofs of purchase! Very kind and convenient. Also they offer a savings card for there store for every 5 or so dollars you spend they punch the card- when it's filled you receive $5 back in the store! Some years ago I lived right down the street from this great place, and unfortunately when I moved, I kinda forgot about it. When I needed fish recently, I got to experience the joy of rediscovering it. Since I was there last, they expanded and now dedicate a whole room to aquaria. They have a marvelous selection, and the gentleman who assisted me was helpful in guiding my selections. They also carry birds, reptiles, and small mammals, all of whom looked very lively. The very best of the best. I have been to quite a few pet stores in Northeastern Ohio, and have refused to ever shop at some stores ever again. Here the employees knew everything about every animal, even gave cold honest truth about their experience with products. They even refuse to sell certain products in shop but will special order it if that's what you really want. Sure, some tanks had algae growing on the sides, and a lot had snails in them, but I'm ok with that, because I didn't see any dead fish. They do what's best for the animals, not what is best for appearances. I mean, I've had over 10+ years of experience with fish tanks, and I was actually able to learn some new things today. Here I usually go in and teach teenagers at fish stores a thing or two after giving them a harder time than it should with my questions. They're not about packing in as many animals as possible into a tank/cage and getting as much money out of the customer as possible. For example, the sales guy showed me what they usually offer their birds for nesting material, but then he said it can be uncomfortable, messy, expensive, etc and suggested a crafting store I can get cheap burlap sack thread at. None of the employees acted like they had better things to do, were too busy, and all were super friendly and enjoyed holding a conversation while answering my questions and then some. Most knowledgeable staff of any pet store I've ever been to. People are great, products are great, prices are great, what's not to love?

Pet's General is the best pet store around for many reasons. First, their staff is not only extremely knowledgeable and helpful, but also unchanging. In the one and a half years I've lived in Lakewood there has been no change in staff (except I think they recently added someone). It is very nice to walk into the store and have anyone working there not only remember you, but remember your pets (whom they've never met), as well as the products you buy. They are truly salesmen from another time; they actually know their product rather than just selling something. Back to knowledgeable and helpful: another reviewer refers to Pet's General as professionals, they are definitely that. Not only will the staff and owner answer any question, but they will share personal experience with animals and give excellent solutions to problems. An example: I was looking for filters for a water dish and instead of just offering to order the product I was looking for I was given an alternative solution using filters in the store that was MUCH less expensive and lasted 10 times as long. So that brings me to prices. As far as I know their prices are competitive with chain stores, but I haven't shopped chain stores to know for sure. All I know is I've never found a product I wanted to buy and wondered if I could get it cheaper somewhere else. And that the owner prices things based on his cost, not on extreme profit like some stores. Shopping at Pet's General has actually saved me money because of the expert advice on products and the friendly assistance offered. If you are looking for something not in the store, don't leave! Ask about it. They'll point you to something they do have and recommend or they'll get it for you within a couple of days. Obviously I cannot say enough about the store and staff. If you have even entertained the thought of patronizing the establishment, just make it your pet store. You won't regret it and soon you'll wonder why anyone shops at chain stores. read more
