Met the owner this past week. He was very attentive and polite. Stopped and asked if I already had fish since I was looking at the fish. I responded that we purchased a home with fish and a pond and he very politely struck up a conversation and took the time to show me fish and we figured out what fish we have. The store needs organizing but they have a lot of unique animals and reptiles. Will return very soon. read more

Great locally-owned pet shop (the last one in Lafayette!!). The staff were helpful, knowledgable, and went above and beyond helping me get set up with everything I needed to know about the snake (!!!) I was buying for my son's birthday. That they did so without putting the hard sell on me to buy it all was appreciated. They seemed to have a pretty good selection of reptiles, birds and other interesting pets and had food and supplies for just about every pet imaginable. They even had pig's ears (for our dog) which I have had a hell of a time finding since we moved to Louisiana. All in all, I highly recommend them. read more

Their selection is a bit spotty. They have a much better selection of bird cages than their competitors, but far less inventory. They've got more types of reptiles for sale their their competitors, but at a high price. Another pro is that they seem to take better care of their animals than their local competitors. On the downside, I find (as a whole) their selection is lacking. They are a comparatively small shop, and so they can't house everything. I wouldn't go here for all of my pet needs, but I would go here first to see if they had what I was looking for. read more

Friendly, helpful, informed staff. Decent selection of fuzzy, feathered, and aquatic pets. I've had no complaints thus far. I've purchased fish from them twice now, and have been very happy with my purchases. Some of the things I particularly appreciate about Pets Unlimited: No overselling, or pressure. DISRESPECTFUL STORE OWNER! My son (he's 19) recently purchased an Asian Forest Scorpion from Pets Unlimited. (December 1st 2020). Unfortunately they do not have a return policy or warranty on live animals (which we were aware of) He bought everything needed for the scorpion. Two days later IT WAS DEAD. He went in the store today (December 4th 2020) and talked with the owner. My son then called me afterwards and said the owner was rude and did not offer any kind of help. I then called and spoke to the owner. I wanted to double check their policies on live animals but... HE WAS BEYOND RUDE! I was floored! He basically made me feel like we treated the animal poorly. He then began to tell me he had those scorpions for 8 months and they were just fine! I told him that his attitude lost him a future customer... that we had been planning on purchasing a bird in the near future. He literally told me "good luck" with that because HE was the only one that sold hand fed birds. I then asked for his name and HE HUNG UP THE PHONE! I cannot imagine if the OWNER treats the CUSTOMER this way how are the ANIMALS TREATED?! (The only reason I rated it one star is because zero was not an option.) read more

This place is always smelly and dirty. Animals kept in small habitats lacking fundamentals. The hedgehogs don't have a wheel, there was a large koi in a very small tank with little room to swim. The axolotl had pebble flooring, which they can easily choke on. But the worst part was that my boyfriend was talking with the owner about buying a tank and he needed his wife to look something up on the phone regarding price. In front of my boyfriend he berated her, calling her a "dumb bitch" and cursing at her for not being able to look it up immediately after passing her child to him. Really unprofessional and simply horrifying to hear as a customer. Never going there again. read more

Don't go here. They do not properly care for their animals. It is so depressing to see all their sad faces. One of the rabbits was breathing weird and twitching (like a seizure) and we asked about it and the lady said "it's fine, does that all the time." Very rude and did not care at all. Their dogs are sad and you aren't allowed to play with them before paying, which is absurd. Some of them have sores on their feet and are super itchy ): poor babies. Do not support this business or the way they care for their animals. read more

STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!! The owner is Very rude and unprofessional. If you have any problems with products or his animals your up with creek without a paddle.If anything happens to said products or something he sold such as bad fish..HE WILL NOT STAND BY ANYTHING. Very unhappy with the service and the owner is a very rude and unpleasant person. The girl that checked me out short changed me. When asked to speak to the owner he told me I had to leave or he would call the police. Several other customer left out behind me and said that he had no right talking to me the way he did and that they would never return to that store again. We like going here to get our cat her food. We have found the owners to be super helpful and non-pressuring. Very kind folks and optimistic with big hearts. So far, my husband and I have been there about six times. The location is spot on for us because we also love to go to all the other stores in the huge area with the easy parking (World Market, Jo Ann, etc.). The selection spans just about anything you'd need if you were in the market for a variety of species of pets! One of their customers (an older lady) had to give up her cats before being moved and the owners very actively helped her find new homes for the 2 adult cats which I consider to be more than above and beyond customer service unheard of at any of the "big box" stores. read more
