Had a 2:00 appointment. Showed up on time and met two other people with the same appointment. Obviously over booked and understaffed. Was told they were short staffed immediately by stressed groomers who were rude and short with my wife. After short conversation they refused to groom our dog. This is a groomer with no people skills and aggressive behavior. We will never be back obviously and can't recommend this location to anyone. read more

Twice in two days now, I have had bad experiences here. The first day, yesterday, I came into the store with a sleeping child in my arms at 3pm, and there appeared to be ONE employee. She was helping people at the register, then walked away to the back of the store, and back. I could get no one to help me in live fish. I was not even acknowledged. I left. The second day, today, there was more business and more employees. But the lady in live fish couldn't catch a fish with the net to save her life. I'm currently standing here waiting in line. It was 10 minutes of trying after I arrived before she was finally able to catch the one she was trying for. I just want snails. ‍ With people in line ahead of me, I'm sure it will be a while. read more

More dead fish than living in some tanks. Tanks you couldn't see into due to slime. Thick waste at the bottom of the tanks. Vile conditions for any living creature. I have tried to get my dog in for a walk in nail trim twice in the last month and left both times frustrated. The first time I called in advance asking if they had time for a walk-in. When arriving at the specific time they told me it would be another 15 minutes. I asked if they still had time and they confirmed and had me sign in and said it would only be 15 minutes. Totally fine, but when I went back to the grooming area they were still working with the same dogs and had also taken another dog between when I was the only one written in on the check in sheet. I waited another 15 at the door and was ignored by staff. I then left frustrated as this was a whole two hours of time wasted as I had left from out of town for this appointment. The second time they had closed grooming early and no groomers were there. I asked if I could schedule something while I was there because the app doesn't allow nail trim appointments to be made, just baths and add ons from there. The manager was quick to dismiss me without allowing me to ask clarifying questions as I had tried to call in advance before already. She just told me to call at 9AM the next day and walked away. I would like to see a better reservation process or updated app options. read more

I have had great experiences at this location for grooming. The staff is nice and caring. My two doodles always look great at pick up. The only bad thing is time. If you or your dog can't handle 3-5 hours then this place is not for you. Also would be nice to be able to tip when paying. I bet these groomers miss out on a lot of tips and that's a shame. read more

I adopted two cats through the ARL here, they are lovely, well taken care of animals. They have two tottally different personalities but we're on the website advertised as a bonded pair. Well lol these little munchies are bonded they cuddle with eachother on my bed and play together all over the house. I also introduced them to my daughter when we came into the store and they didn't hiss or show aggression at all. Jackpot! The staff were very helpful and gave me an idea of what food they needed and then I went a little bit wilde with toys. Omg they had a ton of treats and toys!!!! Go here for your pets!!! read more

Shout out to Skylar? I'm not sure on the spelling and I'm pretty sure that was her name. We were in yesterday and she helped us tremendously. We were in the market for a new fish tank with the filters/heaters etc. we've only really had Betta fishes but we wanted to get a nice set up. She explained so many things to us especially about the Glofish. I had no clue you could mix them with other fishes and you just needed a blue light to make them glow. The light set up separately is 50.00 for the tank we were looking at. She also mentioned about ways to save money which is a plus. Thank you so much and we really appreciated your help. read more

This review is specific to the grooming portion of PetSmart, since I buy my dogs' food there and have never had a problem with that... I would not recommend taking your pets here for grooming for a few reasons... First, although there are some good ones, there are a couple of employees back there that should not be working with pets OR customers. One in particular was very rough with our pup on two occasions - and she's a friendly, 25 lbs dog. Both times were when we walked away to pay, so she obviously didn't want us to see. We were hoping to get one of the five other employees to work on our dog, but no one wanted to do anything, so we got the same lady. We've also seen her being rough with another pup through the window. The most recent time I heard my dog yelping from the register, so I ran back there to her brining my dog back up to the counter, freaking out with her eyes all bloodshot. I asked if the dog had fallen off the table (and got choked by the collar) to which she said no, but I suspect otherwise. She looked disgusted. I wanted to ask why she works with pets when she obviously hates them. Second, the place is messy. My dogs have come back sick twice and had to see the vet. I don't think cleanliness is important there. There's no way to tell if sick dogs have visited, and your dogs can easily catch anything that has gone through there, especially when the place is a disaster. Don't take my word, have a look yourself. Third, they had an advertised pricing special, and we were overcharged for a service. I went back up there to talk to a manager, with no good outcome. I had the ad with me, and they still didn't honor it. That is the least important factor, however. I'm not advocating for another grooming salon. We go here because it's half the price of specialty places and it's what we can afford. But I'm telling you, it's worth it to do whatever you can yourself. read more

Our dog weighs 4lb, is 8 years old and very docile. We gave them a list of items and a picture to go by. The only thing we could tell they did was the bath. If they groomed him at all we could not tell it and we had requested a summer cut. They did not pull the hair from his ears and did not clip his nails. A total waste of 4 hours and over $50. I was disappointed today with my experience today. I had a grooming appointment scheduled for over a week and when I went to drop off my dog, they asked for updated vaccinations. They never notified me about bringing in her vaccinations which is not a problem and I completely understand. The associate was rude about the situation. Telling me that I should go back home and get them or I can have someone send a picture. I was disappointed about the situation because they do a great job with our dogs but the associate made me feel I was wrong and it was my fault. We will not be returning to this PetSmart any time soon not only for that but the lines to check out are still pretty long! read more

I had my dog groomed over here at pet smart in Ankeny, they had called me to see if I could bring him in early since it wasn't enough time I couldn't bring him in due to me working so I had asked my roommate to do it. He was taken in early. I had stop by to pay for him so I didn't have to worry about holding on to him and paying. When I walked In All of the associates looked at like I was stupid and I said that dog was mine. My dog then got out of the neck thing ( before taking him in I had told them that he had high Energy) he was excited to see me so he was crying. I had asked if he was being good. The girl grooming him then said " he was being good until you walked in" This is his first time being groomed. I find it rude and unprofessional to say that to someone, sorry my dog was happy to see me because doesn't no any of them. read more

I've never had any issues with this Petsmart except that the larger of the small animals (guinea pigs, bunnies, chinchillas) always look depressed & really should be given some vegetables once in a while. And I feel bad for the cats up for adoption in the back in their tiny glass cages, especially when parents allow their children to excessively tap on the glass & employees don't say anything. I would like to note I'm always greeted nicely here, offered assistance, and I never see poo or pee on the floor (as I normally do at a competitor). read more

I have been taking my cat here for grooming since I picked him up from here through our local animal rescue in August of 2017 and my dog since November 2017. Today was the first time I was told my animals couldn't get their nails cut because both were too "anxious" according to the groomers. I took my dog this morning to get cleaned up around the face, paws and private areas; bathe and teeth brushed. I picked him up three hours later and I was very upset. Honestly it is rare to get good customer service anywhere these days but last Monday I came into this PetSmart with a dog who would not walk nice on a leash. She is a large puppy who is constantly pulling and jumping. Ryan came up to me said hello to myself and my pup. He asked what I needed help with and took me right to the leash I needed. He had so much helpful information, put the leash on my dog and walked around the store with her. I kept the leash on, paid, walked out and my pup is walking fantastically! I am so grateful for Ryan's help and appreciate his knowledge and friendliness!! read more

This is the go to place to buy pet supplies, there are very few places which will have items they do not carry here for your pets. They also have a grooming and training services here. I have taken my Golden doodle to PetSmart for the last 10 years and today was the last day. They butchered him and cut his hair to the bone. The excuse was he was too matted but we have taken him in before much worse than today. We try and get him through the cold weather before we have him groomed. My opinion is, get them in shave them down and make room for the next one. All a profit game and I am done. Dogs have personalities and my boy of 12 years is humiliated and is laying around worse than having his teeth cleaned last week. I hope Ankeny PetSmart actually gets this message so it can be a training event for the groomers. The groomer we have used in the past must have moved on and that is a shame! read more

Very friendly staff. Pet friendly so bring Fido with you to shop. They carry a lot of brands of everything with fairly decent prices. Large windows to watch groomers. It would be nice to have cart returns in the lot. read more

I can't even get past their poor customer service over the phone to know if they'd even do a decent job actually grooming my dogs. The lady was so rude over the phone I can't imagine how she treats animals. I made my appointments on line a month ago, a long time customer of petsmart in Arizona, but new to the Ankeny, Iowa area. Day before their grooming appointment she tells me she sees their rabies shots are good but not the others that they require. I kept trying to ask if they can see the rabies then it's safe to bet that if they can't see the others they don't have them right? And you waited until the day before their grooming appointment that I waited for a month to get them in to tell me? She got super defensive and nasty, saying their stores/databases aren't all linked laughing like I was a dumb ass for thinking they might have access to the information. She kept interrupting me, some other lady in the background was cussing and being nasty towards me. Better off going somewhere where they listen to the customer and nicely answer questions instead of getting nasty and defensive. I basically told them to F off...I'll happily wait a few more weeks and go somewhere where they believe in decent customer service. read more

The grooming at PetSmart is very expensive, I can get both (2) of our dogs trimmed at the place where we take our dogs for day care for what PetSmart charges, Exp. PetSmart 2 small dogs 165.00, our doggy day care, 85.00, plus the PetSmart in Des Moines treated my small Toy Poodle rough one day, I was watching so the person that was trimming could not see me and watch the woman turn my dogs head very fast around, they will never trim my dogs again, we just go there for dog food now!! read more

No pre-Christmas grooming for our family pet. Denied. Why? Because at the prior nail service one of the other groomers at Petsmart suggested giving our dog something to calm down the next time we come in. Who knew, that NO WHERE POSTED IN THE STORE/SALON, ONLINE BOOKING OR EVEN DURING THE 15 minute pre-appt chat with booked groomer they can't be given anything that alters the dog's behavior? So why did this employee suggest this? After asking REPEATEDLY for corporates number, I was given some crazy number that doesn't seem to land anywhere. All info was shared, but no follow-up call was returned. At the time of the visit, the PETSMART store manager said 24-48 hours must elapse before they can rebook. Even then, I was told by him, minutes later, maybe they could work me in later that SAME DAY. Contradiction? Yes. No 24-48 hours! Misinformation? You bet! He & the groomer said it is stated on the form you sign. I hadn't signed or been given anything! See the problem? So, the next day, after no callback, I called the Customer Service number. Again, I was reassured someone would call. Nothing! So a week later, I jumped onto the Petsmart facebook page (visitors post) and read similar to worse stories than my own posted by other customers. Maybe I should see this as a blessing in disguise the dog wasn't left for grooming. PLUS, others had NO FOLLOW UP EITHER! Someone on FB will ask you to private message them the store location, specifics, your name and number and assure you will get a call, BUT NO CALL WILL COME IN. Another day has passed. Let this sink in. If you have a problem with Petsmart, they WILL NOT BE CONCERNED ENOUGH TO CALL YOU BACK. The lesson here is we will be transferring to the new petstore in Altoona, Iowa and bidding this corporate giant bye-bye. A business who can't and won't address issues, complaints and problems is a ticking time bomb. read more
