Prior to my pup staying with Bark Ave. I was looking around at different places to board her on the day/night of my wedding. I've heard nothing but good things about Bark Ave. so I had my now husband reach out to them. Chloe (my pup) received a package in the mail from them with puppy treats, a toy, and other miscellaneous items. I knew from their interest in her that we had to board her there for the night. Fast forward to July 22, I was super worried about how she would be in a new environment since she is a puppy and she gets anxiety around new people and not being by/with her "mom". That night I received a report card with a cute little picture of her and it had no negatives about her; she even made friends with two other pups- Annie and Tator! When we picked her up she was super happy and the staff working enjoyed playing with her. We paid a little extra so she could have 1:1 play time and be let out more often since we are working on potty training. In all, I definitely recommend this place and I will reach out to them again if we ever need to board Chloe overnight for whatever reason. read more

September 13 took our Yorkie from grooming appointment when we picked her up they gave another client with a Yorkie our dog harness, walker harness, and her collar with dog tags. WTF they haven't contacted the other clients and they seem to live in another town far away. They're not taking the correct responsibility to retrieve our items. My first dog went their and loved it . Unfortunately he passed away. I started taking my other dog they have raises their prices and charge u for a meet and greet which is stupid. I then started noticing they have they favorite dogs and post their photos alot . You have to wait for them to grab your dog cause they have no help. And the owners need to step it up and help out instead of sitting their waiting for baby clothes to be sold on the side. I have seen them give the wrong dog to the wrong person she took it home and they realized it wasn't theirs.they went and got my dog and brought it to me and I'm like nope not mine. Extremely disappointed!!! Took Bear in for grooming. Bath, blow out, paw trim & nail trim. After 4+ hours I tried to calk to see if he was done. Can't get through to anyone. I just showed up to get him & he was still wet even his feet were wet. Paw clean up was not done. He was not blown out . He had more matting then when he went in. . Shame on me, it's not the first time i have had this issue. I gave them a second chance, but NEVER AGAIN. read more

We don't go often but when we do it's typically for boarding. Never had any issues. Friendly staff, clean environment and easy to schedule.

We boarded our three dogs over this past weekend while out of town for a quick getaway. When we picked them up, they seemed to have been well taken care of, but there are issues we've noticed after the fact: 1) We were told we'd receive a daily report card for each dog emailed to us - that never happened. 2) After we picked up the dogs and were halfway home, we found in our belongings a leash/collar and a big rawhide bone that belonged to another dog. It's a good thing the owner of that dog had not yet arrived to pick him up. 3) Most concerning, though, is the health of one of our dogs has exhibited the day after. There have been multiple potty accidents today that typically do not happen, and he has vomited today. I'm not sure if he caught a bug, but I do know he was overfed based on how much food (or little) was leftover. We contacted them this morning and asked questions of whether they were in playtime with other dogs, if they noticed any potty issues, etc - they don't know (which may point back to no report cards being sent). The dogs seemed to have been in good spirits when we picked them up, but based on everything we've seen with their after care, we will not use them in the future. read more

I've been bringing my dog here for a year and it usually takes less than an hr for a bath. Today it's been almost 3 hours so I called to check. The lady who answered seemed snarky and rude. Said it usually takes 3 hrs and when I told her my dog is usually done in about an hr so I was just checking she ignored that and just said they would call. Definitely NOT going to be returning. My dog is my kid and if I called a daycare and was treated this way about my kid I would immediately remove them. This is what I am doing. The grooming industry is a dime a dozen I will find one that cares for me as a customer and my pet and wants to earn my money. Update: the dog has been done she just failed to even check and no one called me...... and no discount ? definitely lost my business! read more

Last time I boarded my dog I was charged for not separating her food from AM & PM and put one whole day in 1 bag. This time I boarded her for 10 days with playtime. I was not made aware there are "packages" or levels of playtime, it used to be either they get playtime or not, so I said yes to her having playtime during boarding. They automatically put her in the "gold" package so when I picked her up my bill was over $700! They probably took good care of her but these costs are getting ridiculous. Doesn't seem like you get any break when you do boarding and playtime together. Nowhere on their website or lobby are any of the prices disclosed or posted so you know your options. Additionally, I was charged a daily "warranty fee" - sorry but was the heck is a "warranty fee" at a dog boarding/daycare facility? I believe I'll be boarding her somewhere else - they scammed me for the last time. read more

The crew that works there are great with my dogs. They also tell me how much they love playing with them. I know my dogs are happier there when they are boarded compared to another place they stayed. The only thing I feel should be included is a bath before pick up especially if they are there over a week. My cost was close to $1000 and they definitely needed a bath and at that price a bath would of been appreciated. Overall, I would recommend. read more

we've been a loyal attendee of Bark Avenue for a few years now. Since moving to their new building, service seems to have gone way down. First of all the check in process in the mornings is absolute chaos, dogs everywhere with no sort of line, dogs lunging in every direction, I can't imagine doing this process with a baby on my hip. Secondly, the last 2 times I pick my dog up, he pees like he hasn't been let out all day. He also acts very stressed afterward. This morning was the last straw when I saw an employee bip him on the nose when he pulled to go back to start his day. We will not be coming back and I'm even leaving unused punch passes behind because leaving my happy-go-lucky dog there stresses him and me out so much. read more

My dog went to daycare and was boarded over the weekend. When I went to pick her up they said her ear had been punctured by another dog all the way through her ear. They said they noticed because she was bleeding a lot. They said they were too busy so they didn't have a chance to call me before I picked her up. They also said they would cover vet costs. I understand that they can't always control the dogs behavior and that could possibly happen from time to time. But it's how everything was handled. When I came back in with my vet bill I found out they didn't communicate anything to the other dogs owners and nothing had been documented about the incident. The manager was very rude and said it wasn't that big of a deal and she wasn't even bleeding so that's why I wasn't called. The vet even said it would have bled a lot and had scabbed over. Also the employees from the day before told me it was bleeding my a lot. I am appalled at the lack of communication and documentation. Please be cautious of taking your sweet dogs there. So so disappointed with Ankeny Bark Avenue. We have taken our dog there for several years for boarding & during our most recent stay, when I picked him up on May 21st, something was definitely wrong. When we got home, my dog wouldn't come to me, wouldn't turn his head to look at me, wouldn't eat, nothing. I called Ankeny Bark Avenue immediately & spoke to a gentleman about my concerns & he told me that a manager would call me back after 5:00 as they were busy checking dogs in/out. By 7:00 p.m., I hadn't received a call, so I called back. I left a message on their answering machine asking if something had happened during his boarding or when he was getting a bath, because something was very very wrong with our dog. I never, ever received a phone call back even after leaving two messages. I ended up taking him to the emergency vet that night which cost me nearly $1,000 for bloodwork & xrays. Up until now, we've never had a problem with Ankeny Bark Avenue, but if a manager doesn't call back after leaving two messages, they must not be that concerned about my dog and/or they're not interested in keeping our business. read more

First time boarding our dogs. Got both dogs the kennel cough vaccine prior to boarding. All up to date on vaccines. Left the dogs there for two weeks. Got daily pictures, that was fun. Staff was pleasant. So why the two stars? Both dogs got Kennel cough. One dog was my sister's and one was mine. Her dog was fed my dog's diet on accident. Her dog developed bloody stool and diarrhea. We brought them home and her dog was going liquid poo nonstop. Had to be taken to the emergency vet that VERY same night. Was told she would not have made it through the night. She had developed pancreatitis from eating the wrong dog food for two weeks. She developed kennel cough, was dehydrated, and was exhausted. She was hospitalized for two days, had an IV put in and was on a special diet. The vet bill was over $1000! This had never happened before. Her dog lost 3lbs since being dropped off and she started at 18lb. My dog developed kennel cough so bad that she had to be put on antibiotics...coughing fits very often throughout the day; this lasted for 6 weeks. Bark Ave reviewed the vet report and did compensate a portion of my sister's vet bill. (They should have covered it all). But, they did pay a portion which was appreciated. Unfortunately, I hold my dog's health at a higher regard than their table manners. I do not recommend ever boarding your dog's at this place. I will never do that again. Their lack of attention to detail, proper care, and kennel responsibility, was immense. read more

I tried bringing my dogs here for half days of daycare to get them better socialized. I don't think I'll be back. The youngest one has come out smelling of urine a number of times, and come to find out, they stick them in cages ("pop-ups"?) for one to two hours in the middle of the day for "quiet time." Their half days are more expensive than other places and they have suddenly decided to be inflexible, so if you need to bring in your dog from 11-3, apparently you would be charged for a full day (and they might stick your dog in a cage for half of that time; thus, the puppy having to sit in his own urine). They lost the bag of food I brought and seemed totally unapologetic and unconcerned. They mostly seem concerned with making money and I often sense they are not forthcoming and/or outright lying to me. There are no monitors or windows to see what is going on with the dogs while they're there. I also can't get a straight answer out of them regarding dog to caregiver ratio. Sad that we don't have more options in Ankeny as the other viable option is currently booking 3 months out. Now I see why. I will say one good thing about them. They usually send really nice report cards via text message with pictures of your dog from their stay and a few words about how they did and who they played with. For that, I gave them back one of the 5 stars they lost with me. read more

We have used Bark Avenue for daycare as well as boarding for our 2 pups. Everyone is always so friendly and helpful. I love the report cards they send (with pictures!), informing us of their demeanor and who their play mates were On our most recent boarding visit, I messed up the time they needed to be dropped off and we arrived shortly after they had closed for the day. The manager allowed us to board them anyway, which was amazing since we were leaving out of town within the hour. Ashley was kind and patient as she checked us in, even though we kept her late on a Saturday. We really appreciate their flexibility, professionalism and the amazing care they show our babies. read more

Boarded our puppy from 6/4-6/9 with only personal play scheduled with their staff - no group play. Our puppy came home with kennel cough. What is the worst part of all of this is that it could have been easily avoided if they had been upfront with me prior to our arrival. I was told they had 3 confirmed cases over Memorial Day weekend. I would have made other arrangements for our puppy if I had known. I was told by staff tonight that it's just a cold. Well, puppies can develop much more serious issues and I'm glad my vet acted promptly to start her on meds right away. We have two cats at home so now we have to quarantine our puppy. Besides lack of transparency, when we arrived check in was very frantic - no separate area to check in for boarding vs daycare drop off. My first time boarding and I wanted to take time to ask questions but had multiple dogs (mostly large) waiting in line behind us. Provided all meals and even dinner for 6/9 - but didn't receive any meals back when I picked her up around 2. Not a big deal but probably needs to be addressed through better organization on their part. Brought 2 toys and only received one back-again not a huge deal but needs better organization. Also hard to get a live person when you call - had to leave a voicemail many times but they did always call me back. I was told that staff was staying late disinfecting every night but I wish that I didn't have to hear this after the fact - that the facility would have been upfront with me from the beginning. I took a lot of time deciding on a place to board and my husband even toured the facility ahead of time and we called numerous times to ask questions - I am just disappointed in the trust we put in and saddened by this whole experience for our puppy. They also overcharged me, but I didn't see this until after reviewing my receipt. New customers are supposed to get discount on nightly rate for boarding. Love the service here!! They treat your pets like their own!!! My pup was pampered with his 2 day stay with bath and nail trim while we were out of town. They took great care of our furry family member and made sure he felt at home. Their packages and pricing are reasonable with tons of add ons, opted for the silver package, which was a great deal. Around $100 for 2 nights with bath and nail trim! He even left with a cute bandanna! He has a few separation issues, but they were so kind and he was very happy and almost didn't want to go home! We recently left our 17yr old Wheaten, Darby, for 2 days and then 3 days and were happy to see she got along very well with the other dogs and even looked happy to be there. The first 2 days we missed the time to pick her up so she had to stay and extra day. They took great care of her for the entire time. On the second 3 day time we enjoyed the report card with the pics of her stay and other dogs. She looked like she was having a great time. Most of the time at home she sleeps so it's nice to have her play with other dogs and Bark Avenue takes great care of her. read more

On 6/24/2014 my husband and I dropped our dog, Khloe, off for a bath and to have some matted hair removed from behind her ears. My husband was scheduled to pick her up at 6:00 p.m. on his way home from work. At 5:45 p.m. he got a call saying the person who was cutting her hair had nicked her and they didn't want to continue until it had been looked at by a vet. When he arrived he saw that it was not just a nick. The wound behind her ear was two to two and a half inches in diameter, about the size of a golf ball. The employee at Bark Avenue said they weren't sure if it had been done before bringing her in or not. (Just to be clear, I had not tried to do it by myself as they suggested.) They did not apologize and never took responsibility. At the vet, Khloe received staples which would be the equivalent of 15 stitches. She had to wear a cone for at least a week. Our dog, who is outside most of the day, had to stay inside for two weeks. This incident was traumatic for her (and me!), to say the least. We took the nearly $500 vet bill to Bark Avenue. Finally, over two weeks and four visits later, they paid the bill and apologized but still never took responsibility. I will never utilize Bark Avenue again and do NOT recommend it to anyone else. The way they dealt with us and our dog was negligent and unprofessional. It was heartbreaking to see our dog like that. read more

Oh yeah if you need your pet pampered bring them here! They do a fantastic job of clipping toenails also they do grinding on the nails which I prefer for my animals! If you're going out for the evening and need to have your pet sitter they do a great job and it's a really good price! They keep the dogs well fed well watered and they also love to take care of them to the point where if you want to take their favorite blanket or food they take it in with the animals! They do dog brushing which my dogs love thoroughly! I highly recommend them over any other pet place! They do take credit cards debit cards and Cash! And if you're going on vacation they have great rates for them to be able to watch your pet properly! read more

For the 2nd grooming in a row I have had a problem. Last time his nails were not completed and looking at him you could not tell he was even there. This appointment he was cut much shorter than we agreed. His stomach and butt were shaved to the point he was razor burnt. I was up the ENTIRE night Wednesday with him shaking and whining. All day Thursday I would barely move and just wants held. Today he is getting better. He will be 4 in April and Bark Ave is the only place we have gone for day care, training, and grooming. Normally I would write a good review of my experiences with Bark Avenue, but for the second time I sat in my car and got ignored. The 1st time I stayed even after the girl came out an took the dog from the car that had parked next to me after I'd been waiting for some time, they had only been there for about 5 minutes. This time, as before, I called to let them know I was there and in what spot, right in front of the doors mind you. There were a lot of cars so I was prepared to have a bit of a wait. After waiting for close to a half hour this huge truck pulled in with 2 dogs and about 5 to 10 minutes later the girl came out and got his dogs. I yelled to get her attention to no avail, the customer wasn't even nice enough to say I was there before him. I beeped my horn at her and the then 2 other girls in front of the doors and was completely ignored, as if I was invisible. This time I didn't wait even longer, I called an told her I was leaving and why. I have no intention of ever taking my sweet dog there again. I may not take 2 or 3 dogs there and not every day, but they lost the one I did take there. Will not recommend them ever, to anyone. Maureen R. read more

I love this place even if it is mainly for dogs. They cut my cat's hair and always treat him right. The staff are friendly and there is a clear glass window that you can watch them through. I recommend for you to take your dog or cat here for a hair cut. The dogs always seem content when I am there. read more
