I would 100% NOT recommend this location. After a message on the Neighbor Next Door app reporting abuse at the grooming salon and my own terrible experience I won't be back. The grooming salon had to cancel my pups appt because the groomer was out sick. No one had the decency to call me to tell me about the cancellation or to reschedule. I found out by checking my emails when trying to confirm the appointment times. Upon calling to reschedule I was booked almost three weeks later. At arrival I was told my dogs were too matted and they couldn't groom them. That they should go to their vet to be groomed. I immediately called my vet to schedule and they told be it was ridiculous for them to turn my pups away. We had to wait another week and their vet had no issues grooming them. Another visit I was talked down to by the older lady who works in the fish/aquarium area. She spoke to me as if I had no knowledge of fish and was stupid. Please, dear lord, DO NOT take your fur babies to this location. My Shih Tzu is normally groomed in Charleston however, I was visiting my daughter and decided to book at the Rivergate location because my original choice store did not have availability. Let's start with the groomer coming in late. I stood there as he lackadaisically walked in with no introduction or apology for his lateness. Red flag number one! Received a call for pick up, when I arrived "Kim" quickly approached me stating there would be no charge for services today because my baby's ear was "nicked" with the clippers. When she retrieved him from the back, he looked HORRIBLE!! The cut on his ear was of course red with a snip of ear missing and blood stains still on his ear. The groomer cut off ALL his hair...even his fluffy tail, leaving him pink and sore!! I asked Kim had they applied anything to his cut, she replied Neosporin. No apologies, no care recommendations, just a blank stare and side eye from the incompetent groomer. I cried, this was a shocking and painful experience. I included before and after photos. The groomer should get charged with causing bodily harm to an animal. Save yourself and your fur baby some heartache - go elsewhere. read more

I heard the horrors of getting groomed at PetSmart, but this is the only place that doesn't stay booked in comparison to places like B**bl*P**s (can't mention their name for free) After 6 or so weeks of rescheduling due to issues with their staff, either someone was sick (I'm assuming COVID is running rampant at this location because someone was always sick), they only had late appointments so the service would be finished after they closed or they were short staffed. One Sunday morning I finally make it in at the earliest time slot possible only to be told my dog was too matted & if she cut him she would hurt him so she couldn't do it, my best bet would've been to take him to the vet because they had blades that were better suited for the job. I knew this was complete bullsh** but I go ahead & take him elsewhere. Unfortunately my vet didn't have a licensed groomer on staff but the groomer I did find told me that there was no reason he got turned away other than sheer laziness to complete the job. To paint the picture I have a 65lb goldendoodle who is an absolute fluff ball so at minimum the job is about 5 hours in comparison to their promised 4. I definitely won't be returning for any reason other than to shop. Dealing with them was such a hassle, I just wanted my dog to not have to suffer through the hot Carolina heat with a coat that he didn't need, but the girls here were too unwilling to do the job they applied for. There's a groomer I would recommend, but I don't want to post her name number online without her permission. 10/10 job. (I will update if she says it's okay) read more

Walmart meets pets supplies, Petsmart is the big box store that carries everything you need for your furry, feathered or scaled little one. All neatly organized with prices displayed clearly. Cat food, dog food, cat treats, dog treats, leashes, litter boxes, water fountains, aquariums and aquarium supplies. It's all here. Petsmart will let you bring your leashed dog into the store with you and they have cleanup supplies in case Fido couldn't hold it until he is outside. If you do decide to bring your dog inside, please don't let him scare the cats that are out for adoption. That's just not right. read more

Don't bring your pets to the groomers. They don't know what they are doing. So frustrating when you leave your two dogs to get the bath and brush service and they don't do your one dog because he started growling. Like what ?!?!? The dog is 10 pounds. He now smells and looks worse than he did before. The second dog is 15 pounds and they couldn't get all his nails done because he started growling, so they stopped. This place has to be the biggest disappointment I've ever seen. Don't waste your time here. Go to another establishment, you'll get better results. read more

Let me be clear. I've NEVER Owned any pets. Today my fiancé and I bought our first dog! He is sooo adorable by the way! We stopped by here before picking him up. The staff here is very informative!! Everyone was helpful....I believe today was adoption day. So many people buzzing around. We were offered a PUPPY GUIDE Kit!!! Talk about Perfect timing!! The Puppy Guide Kit was $20, offering endless coupons. After driving 1hr to pick up our new dog we came back to this location. We adopted a Full blooded German Shepard, 11weeks Old. Needless to say he's a chick magnet!!!! Everyone, was all over him. He smelled HORRIBLE, so we looked around for shampoo near the grooming salon. We were standing in front of the salon area when a young lady approached us asking if we needed help....She answered our questions, then informed us we had a coupon for Discounted Grooming!!!! Say what!!! This Puppy Guide kit is awesome!!! Being a first time dog owner, I was nervous leaving my dog here. Because we just got him!! Everyone was super friendly, and excited to work with him (because he's stinking adorable) about 30mins later we came back. He looks amazing. And smells so clean!!! He was well behaved!! I swear I live here. My fur babies vets are here. I paid Banfield monthly for their wellness program. Plus that's where the babies even go for their grooming. Soo far no complaints as far as grooming goes. And I know they are taken care when I can get them in both departments. I have spoken to Tim the manager there a few times. I think he knows me by now. Alway bringing in the babies or any dogs I'm fostering that particular day or week. I wish they would carry a more varies of pet treat jars, or food holders but I can't have it all can I. Meanwhile I will take what Petsmart give me and make dos with what they can't.. read more

I took my two goldendoodles and they came out absolutely terrible. I paid for the deluxe package and their ears are still very dirty and neither of them came out with a bandana or a bow. One has their face completely shaved off and the other had just the other had a line above his nose shaved off. Their whole body was shaved but it came out very very patchy. read more

I would like to commend Ashley and Jadon at PetSmart. I was looking for a carry kennel for my foster dog. She was having spay surgery so I could adopt her. I called PetSmart at Rivergate Parkway. Icalled and talked to Ashley about the size I needed. She was friendly, professional, caring and very patient. Ashley took the time to look at the kennels and tell me the sizes they had in stock. I told her I would be there soon and she was so helpful. She had the kennel at the front so it would be easier for me to purchase. Jadon, the cashier advised me when I walked in. She was also friendly, professional and very nice. I thank Ashley and Jadon for their great customer service. Enjoyed meeting both ladies! PetSmart is fortunate to have them. read more

There grooming associates are simply the worst. I take my dog to multiple groomers in the area since with COVID the appointment are fully booked with weeks in advance. My dog is just the sweetest and it's always happy to meet new people and dogs. We go to the dog park 3 times a week and never had any problems with other dogs. They are going to call me to say I need to bring my dog in now, cause she is aggressive against other dogs and call me a lier, when I asked why was this never mentioned to me. They always say she did great and was amazing and so much fun when I pick her up, But now she is aggressive all of the sudden and I'm a lier cause they say they did told me. Come on, all other 3 groomers never told me such thing. Just horrible customer service. read more

I have never witnessed more rude associates in all my life. It started with an elderly man, who walked in and asked a gentleman working there if he should come in or stay outside for Curbside pickup. He responded briskly "where do you think you should be? Outside in line with everyone else". All the while shaking his head at the man, he leaves and the associate said - "I guess that is why we have natural selection right now". Next I go to the fish section, pick out 3 gold fish and a beta for my daughters tanks. The female associate asks, "you do have a 32 gallon tank don't you!" Nope I have a ten gallon and a 5 gallon for the beta. She then tells me I can't have them . WTF- we have had fish in those tanks for 10 years and it has worked every time for at least 2-3 years per fish. I was shocked at the attitude and crappy customer service people working here. Literally a horrible experience. My appointment was at 12:30 on the 10th. We got there early and then they told me it would be a 2 - 3 hour wait. What's the point in having an appointment if it's still going to be 2 hours: I came back I come back after that time and my dog STILL isn't ready. They said it will be another hour. I leave and come back when they call me and my dog still stinks, he has hair going everywhere, he is shaking something awful, and it was just an overall bad experience. I am surprised by all the nasty reviews. I have brought both my dogs here several times. My older one is no longer with us but she was hard to handle and they always took two people and did her nails in front of me to lower her stress. Now we have a new one with a Shepard undercoat and quite frankly; I wouldn't have taken her in had I known about the shedding but, now she's family and they got her completely to where I am astounded at the results. Can't even tell she has an "undercoat" still a week later in summer! I got the "furminator" it is WORTH IT! I also like how they will employ the tattooed and pierced; not my style but everyone needs a job! read more

Rivergate grooming has TWICE handed my dog back and charged me after they DIDNT EVEN BATHE HER, no ail trim, no sanitary trim, NO BATH, no NOTHING and I always do the $$$ furminator. Worst experience for pet grooming, we had an appointment, and after 3 hours when we asked where our dog was and how much longer they told us they got super busy with walk-ins and she would be on the table soon.. I would think appointments would be prioritized over walk-ins. Then after 5 minutes on the table they tell us she's done, her teeth were clearly not brushed and they couldn't even bother to give her a bandana that's included in the package we purchased. I'm not confident they did any of the cleaning they were supposed to outside of a bath. read more

After making an appointment for my dog to be groomed at 4pm, they call to say it is impossible for her to be bathed and groomed in the window of 4-7pm?! Seriously? The manager will tell you that they hate the system because it doesn't work and that WALK-INS take priority?! WHAT! This rating is for the grooming clinic. They deserve less than 1 star! They cut my dogs eat when he was getting groomed and tried to blame it on something else. "Maybe the dog was playing with another pet." I was furious but didn't want to cause a scene. Looking back I should have contacted corporate. The energy in there is bad. There's one guy who is a groomers who I wouldn't let groom as stuffed animal. I heard him complaining about other customers and their dogs right in front of me. Definitely would not trust him with your dog alone. Even when he answers the phone he sounds bitchy. I wish I remember the girls name who cut my dog. I know they have it in their record L because it was his LAST grooming at this location. Horrible people. If only dogs could talk. I would rather spend more money taking my pet to an actual private groomers than this place. I never heard my dog scream when getting their nails cut either but this time they were as if that grinder tool was burning her or something. I have to come here because my dog's prescription food is here other than that I would shop somewhere else. They are completely understaffed and there is always a line when I come in here. So be prepared to wait. The store is clean but there is always just one cashier that never calls for the manager when the line is long. I've been bringing my Miniature Pinscher, Phaedra, to the grooming clinic for 6 years and the service was fine. The last two times I went they said they couldn't cut her nails because she was moving around too much. My dog hasn't changed, but evidently the staff has. In the past the groomers would comfort her and/or hold her as they did the nail grinding. Today the style apprentice just had her chained to the table. In the past when I walked in they would stop, do the nail grinding for my dog, and send us on our way. It was a 10 minute process. The last two times they had me waiting for 20 to 30 mins before they took my dog and then both times returned her with no service performed. Waste of time. I won't be back. read more

I have a 15 year old terrier that's, well... we'll say "entitled". She's always hated anyone to touch her feet, so getting her toenails cut has always been a huge ordeal for her. I used to have it done while she was sedated for dental cleanings, but now that she's so old, I no longer have her sedated so the opportunity for that has passed. She put up a real fight on Saturday, and the girls in this PetSmart were fantastic with her. They took their time, they spoke softly to her and they got it done despite my dog flailing and making the job much more difficult than it needed to be. The ladies working at 7:00pm on a Saturday did an awesome job, her toes look great! Thanks for being there ladies and for knowing how to get a tough job done. read more

If you came here for review please read this. My dog was groomed multiple times in this salon and every time they have done the most pathetic job with coat hair cut. They donot follow any instructions that was given to them and they would cut it the way they like. For example, every time when i explicitly told them to not cut the stash and they cut it too short. Sometimes they also try to up-sell you by recommending a different shampoo. Please stay away. read more

I have been to Pet Smart locations over 100 times. Today, this location, had the worst customer service I had ever seen. No one seemed happy to be working. One employee ran into my dog's face and stopped to apologize but it was fake and she seemed upset that my dog was in her way (but yet pays her paycheck). We have gone to PetSmart all the time while we lived in NY. Since we have moved to Charlotte, we have gone to PetSmart in Rivergate and in Matthew's. It's been pretty upsetting to see a clear difference in the work ethic. It was wonderful in NY but since going between these two locations it has been a horror. The dogs never come back the way you asked for. And there must be some short cut that's taken in these locations cause I've been called back to pick them up in an hour during a visit and I have two dogs. Grooming doesn't happen that quickly. My dogs who were once happy to go are now scared to death to enter these establishments. They literally run up my chest ! After picking up my dogs on the last visit there one them had very red eyes afterwards. I was scared to ask what happened to him. They are over booking them and rushing through their days treating customers like crap! It's not ok. I've been called. Few times to come in earlier or later and I do it for them but so help if you are more than a little late! Your appt is cancelled. They offer you discounts because they are part of PetSmart but yet they don't honor them in grooming, where the most of your money goes? And when they do they will not accept it other PetSmart, only to the establishment that gave you the discount ? During when Covid was happening at a peak, PetSmart called out to customers offering discounts to come back since people were obviously going elsewhere or nowhere for that matter. But when you came in they Couldn't find it in the system cause it was word of mouth. It's truly upsetting the way they treat people. read more

Closing the store way to early before closing time. We visited tonight and arrived seeing a lady and her son standing outside the door pounding on it. It's 8:45. We see the employees standing at the register counting the drawer including the manager. We beat on the door while the second set of doors are wide open. They started glancing to the side but wouldn't look right at us. The lady gets on the phone calling the store as her son is wanting a lizard they just called about. The heavy set girl finally comes to the door while the manager disappears and motions to us to go away that they are closed or is trying to tell us to pry them open, but she turns around and walks away. The lady outside with us started to leave mad while trying to call the store still and We realized the doors was turned off but not locked,, so we pulled the doors open and the lady comes in with us. The heavy set girl looks at us and said that the two male employees turned off the doors. So I'm like, why didn't u let us in if you knew u closed them 15 minutes early and she said oh I didn't hear u, but yet u kept looking at us and just admitted u closed them early. We go to the back of the store and grabbed bird food and the lady goes to get her son the lizard they had just called for. The two guys r In the back looking surprised we got in and immediately gets on the shirt clip walky and starts whispering to the girl up front I guess. They then asked us what we need help with nervously 3 times in 5 minutes. We then head to the front and the girl and the two guys r up there talking looking at us and scattered when we walked up. They walk past and I asked why they closed the store early. Both were really nervous and said it happens sometimes and walked off. I asked the girl who the current store manager is and she said Dana and kept looking at the guys the whole time behind us waiting for us to leave. She then asked why I'm asking and started getting nervous around us as she knew they messed up big time. The whole time the manager is listening n the room with the door open right at the register and never comes out. When we left it was still before 9:00 and the doors was still turned off. We had to pry the doors open and close them back behind us. When we drove around all the employees was up front in a huddle and I'm assuming trying to come up with a plan on what to tell the store manager Dana and who to blame. Wouldn't have been so bad if they would have told the truth and not keep lying like high schoolers. Most us at some point worked in retail or fast food and want out right at the closing time, but lying and being nervous about it is another thing, there stories was all over the place. The night manager sure didn't care. We have been twice in the past where this store has closed prior to 9 at least 10 minutes early. Definitely need a better night crew. I typically take my dog Bishop in for a nail grind only, primarily because he does not like to go into the grooming salon. What I witnessed today in the grooming salon absolutely sickened me! I was contacted by the grooming salon and asked to come in earlier than my 5 pm appointment time due to multiple cancellations. Around 4:15pm today, Feb. 27, 2021, I left Bishop briefly so I could run to the front of the store and pay for his services. Once I returned less than five minutes later, I was standing outside observing as I usually do, when I witnessed the grooming salon employee Ashlee choke the dog she was grooming. Not only did she choke him TWICE, but she yanked on the fur on his chin causing his head to be forced downward, then proceeded to aggressively hold his snout shut while his tongue was out causing him to bite his tongue. I am unsure what potential difficulty the dog was giving Ashlee prior to me observing, BUT he did not attempt to nip at or bite her ONCE WHILE I WAS STANDING THERE. He was only trying to get away from her. As this was all happening so quickly, I began to bang on the glass to get her to stop, then ran inside the grooming salon to get her attention. Ashlee grabbed the fur on the dog's chin again, then tried to "play nice" with the dog. One of her co-works said "she's going to report you" where Ashlee responded "I don't care." Ashlee said that twice as she took the dog off the table and proceeded to the back out of sight where she stayed. I was so upset I was shaking. I had the store Michael come to the back, where I reported what I saw. Michael gave the typical I am so sorry this happened, however there was no sense of urgency. Thus, propelling me to request corporate contact where I was given an 888 number. I also requested the GM's name. I went to my car and called the 888 number where I was transferred from person to person. I went back into the store, spoke with Michael (store manager) and requested the direct contact for the GM. I left a voicemail and will continue to call and follow up until something is done. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! read more

The groomers are exceptional at this location. I take my 13 year old Bearded Collie across town because of how they handle him. Groomers are experienced and work at getting you in to the groomer of your choice. They provide recommendations based on what's best for your dog rather than what's easiest for them. My dog wags his tail when we walk in the store. Grooming prices are fair and it's easy to get your dog in on short notice with some planning. Their hours are very flexible. Online scheduling system doesn't work that well so I recommend you call to book. read more

This is my second visit, and second time I had to deal with excessively long checkout lines and cashiers calling managers who wouldn't respond. They need faster lines. I shouldn't have to wait 10 minutes to checkout a bag of dog food every time I come here. read more
