We all know big companies like Walmart do not take care of their fish tanks but damn PetSmart. You guys are worse than Walmart. I came in looking for a couple new fish to add to my tank. The fish tanks were in such terrible condition. There was THICK layers of algae in all the tanks. I've never seen it that bad. Nearly every tank had a dead or dying fish. The fish that were suppose to be active were not active at all. You could tell in any second they will die. In another was a couple dead frogs with fish floating at the top creating a very weird white substance around them. Then I looked at the next one. The dead fish was in there for so long it was starting to split apart. The list of dead continues. It's very obvious they do not clean the fish tanks AT ALL but seriously one tank had at least 15 dead fish in there with a few stuck to the filter vents. Fkin disgusting. For gods sake you are a pet store. I can only imagine how they treat other animals. read more

So happy to have adopted our two newest fur babies from this location. We came in with my twins after a frustrating day to love/hold some of the kittens awaiting adoption, this time we decided we needed our own. The fact that these babies already have all of their shots, and are spayed were a big bonus for me. They are four months so all but one vaccination is complete due to age. When we adopted previously from the SPCA we still had to schedule and pay upwards of $200 out of pocket for the vaccinations at our local vet (not including the adoption fee paid to the SPCA). Not that the price of a companion is a HUGE impact in my adoption decisions, but for some it is. This was a nice "perk" of adopting from here. We also got to meet the foster mom to our new kittens while we were there, you can tell that she was very hands-on with these fur-babies. They are so cuddly and sweet, exactly what we needed in our home and while integrating them into a new house with a 3lb chihuahua to adapt to. HUGE thank you to all of the fosters and volunteers that rescue these animals and provide them all the love and care until they find their forever homes. read more

On my dog's 3rd birthday I took him to get groomed. When making the appointment they were super courteous over the phone and when I got there they were just as courteous. The groomer that worked with my Chocolate Lab was Rachel. She was super sweet and did an amazing job. My dog's coat was super shiny, she did his nails and he smelled great. The grooming took 3 and a half hours. I had been told 3 hours but by the 3rd hour I received a call from Rachel telling me that it would be a little longer because my dog was not too fond of the blow dryer and it would be a little longer before she got him completely dry. FYI: Dogs have to be up to date with their shots in order to be groomed here. The price for the bath and nails was about 26 dollars (before a very deserved tip). I didn't think that was bad at all. _______________ While walking around the store looking for birthday gifts for our dog, we walked by the area they have cats and dogs up for adoption. They had a beautiful tiny dog that sort of looked like a chihuahua. I asked about the adoption process and found myself contemplating adoption. I asked more questions and went over to the tiny dog and I have no idea how this happened but suddenly I was holding a pen and filling out some paper work. My kids and I were quickly falling in love with this dog and his GINORMOUS ears. The dog seemed to like us a lot too. It turned out the dog was a Mini Pinscher. All of a sudden our application was approved and we were walking out of the store with a Mini Pinscher. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? I was a little worried about how my gigantic dog would be around our new tiny family member but as it turns out, the tiny Pinscher has a huge personality and our Lab is very tolerant. So I guess you can say that we got our lab a friend for his birthday. They make the oddest couple but they are a match made in heaven. :) read more

Petsmart is an ok place to shop for stuff, and their grooming is great, but I would not recommend their pet training to anyone. We had many terrible experiences, and went as far as the store manager to try to correct the situation. A bad situation only kept getting worse until we dropped out. The trainer was very unprofessional. What a waste of $125! read more

Today, my husband and I brought our dog to PetSmart Grooming to have her nails trimmed for the very first time. When we spoke to the salon employee about what service we were requesting, we emphasized that it was our young dog's first time getting her nails trimmed and that she might get scared or nervous. We also requested that they use the most gentle method between grinding and clipping her nails. Once we handed our dog over to the groomer and they placed her in the slip leash around her neck, our dog got scared and laid down. The groomer then proceeded to drag our 40 pound scared dog across the floor against her will by her neck. At this time, we immediately told them to stop dragging her across the floor by her neck and use our leash on her harness, as it might make her more comfortable and be less damaging to her neck. The groomer informed us that they must use their slip leash as it was the store policy and continued to drag our dog across the floor by her neck. We repeated that we did not want our dog to be dragged by her neck but the groomer proceeded. It was then that another groomer stepped in and asked us to leave the grooming salon as they thought it would make our dog more calm. As we were leaving, we told the groomers, for the third time, not to drag our dog by the neck, which they finally abided by. At this point, our dog was in a position where they could trim/grind her nails on the floor. We watched from the outside of the salon as several groomers took turns restraining our dog as another groomer grinded/trimmed her nails. After about 10 minutes, they motioned for us to come in as they were finished. We were then informed that because our dog required multiple groomers, we would be charged an extra $6 for the trimming. My husband and I feel that it is unprofessional, disrespectful and possibly harmful to the dog for groomers to drag a scared dog across the floor by the neck. Even more alarming, they didn't stop the first two times we told them to. We would have preferred the grooming salon refuse service than to treat our dog like this. Lastly, we feel like the service fee should have at least been partially waived, not increased. We have decided that we will be avoiding this and other PetSmart Grooming Salons from now on. Though no dog is perfect, EVERY dog deserves a basic level of respect for his/her health and emotions. read more

I have 2 pure bred Silky Terriers and I have been taking both of them here for 7 years. I live on the other side of town, and will still gladly make the drive out to Citrus Heights because they've been soooooooo good to my dogs. My older dog can be a PITA and my younger dog is considered a special needs dog - and they have always taken good care of both of them. My fur babies are always left smelling good, fur trimmed exactly how I request it, nails grinded down well, teeth brushed - they just do it all. I love the little doggy report cards I get at the end that tell me what was done, if they noticed any problem areas and what products were used. I was just there on Saturday (7/8) with my little special needs Silky Scooby, and Michaela took great care of him and listed to me when I talked about the fact he's a little off in the head but sweet as can be. Wow I don't understand the negative reviews. I take my German Shepherd here every 4 - 6 weeks and they do a great job. He's brushed out, smells good and teeth and nails are done professionally. The staff are friendly and easy to deal with. I'd recommend them anytime. read more

I am here getting my daughter a hamster, when I walked through the doors I was immediately greeted with a hello. I told the lady that I needed help picking out a hamster and they got someone over to help us. My daughter had a lot of questions and the lady was very patient and answered every one of them with a smile. Hen it is was time to get all the equipment, the sales person showed us the most economical way to go. I appreciated that she didn't try to sell me all the high end stuff. I got everything thing that I needed for around $110 dollars. Now my daughter is happy and has a new friend to play with. read more

I just took my dog there for the first time to get groomed and it was horrible! !! First he was there for 4 1/2 hours...I had to call them to check to see what was taking so long. I was asked to give them another 15 mins. When I got there he was still on the table and he had maybe two rows of hair on his back shaved (well get back to THAT in a sec). So one of the employees opens the swinging door and hands me the leash to a dog that I can assure you ISNT mine. I told her "this isnt my dog...its not even the same collar". She replies with "yes, this is Charlie" again I said "no...mine is the one on the table." At that point the groomer who is shaving Charlie tells me... opps....she must have mixed the two dogs up..meaning she gave someone else the grooming I asked for and was trying to shave Charlie- when I had SPECIFICALLY said that I did NOT want him shaved only bathed and cleaned up a little, but that I still wanted him to have the natural curl that he has. She then asked me if I wanted her to stop?! Really...? My dog has two long patches of hair shaved off and you want to just leave him like that?! I told her no, at this point youve already commited to shaving him. So she tried to continue (now, Charlie is a shelter dog and I dont have any history on him as to whether or not hes ever been groomed-so he was not cooperating very well, but I would think groomers are trained to handle unccoporative dogs and dogs that are scared- mind you hes a poodle who weights 8 lbs not too hard to handle). The groomer seemed nervous and flustered so I told her to stop...now Charlies haircut is uneven, unfinished, and choppy. They tried to charge me $40 and she didnt do ANYTHING except bath him- which apparently took 4 hours. I told her I wanted my money back and I have nooo plans to EVER visit this locations grooming services again. read more

LOVE this store! I love how the employees know your pet(s) and notice if they are not with you on that visit. Both of my guys have been in the training with Debra, and love her dog. I think its a plus to see her working with her her dog showing us what to do, and her dog is trained the petsmart way. another added bonus is her dog is a pitbull, and if petsmart can training a pitbull, they can train any dog. Going there has been the greatest expereince we have had. my older boy we were at the point of getting rid of him because of his aggersivness. But Debra helped us, and showing us a few little corrections on our part, my boy is a new dog. The next favorite place there is the fish department. the two ladies there are so sweet, and never makes you feel rushed! Its because of them making it seem so easy having a tank is why i purched mine and only go to Mary or Maddy for all my questions!!! read more

When shopping for supplies 9/15/14 with my adult daughter and her new rescue dog, I asked if they carried Avoderm products. I was told, 'no, there was a recall on their food, so we don't carry the brand any longer'. I have been feeding Avoderm dry and canned for years, with awesome results, and hadn't heard of any recalls. I looked it up when I got home, and saw there was a recall of one small batch a couple of years ago, and none of it made it out to any stores. Knowing that Petsmart still sells treats made in China that have actually killed pets, I found a five page list online, (small-type, single spaced), of all the previously recalled items that they still carry. Hypocrites. That's o.k. They charge way too much for premium brand foods. Shop at a certain 'club' for pets, and save 10.00 to 20.00 per bag. read more

Absolutely love Pets Mart!!! I take my dog here every time we need dog food, which is about once in two months. Employees are always nice and helpful. There are at least 2-3 employees that ask if I need help finding anything each time I come in. The store has a good variety of pet food including high quality options. My dog has a blast here sniffing all the people, the toys and the treats! We always get treated with a dog biscuit and a smile on the way out. PS, I have not tried their grooming services so I can't say much about that, sorry to see all the negative reviews... The store itself and employees are wonderful! read more

This is the only pet store I shop at for my cats. I have to buy kitten and indoor food and this is the only store I have been to that has both for the brand I need. The prices are fair, but not as cheap as I have seen at Walmart. As for litter, toys, etc. they have everything I need and are easy to find. The staff is always friendly and helpful and there is always plenty of parking. read more

This place has a nice variety of things for my fish and tortoise as for my cats and dogs I don't shop her because I get healthier food somewhere else without grains and by product's. I looked once for a few options here when $ was a little tight but didn't find anything I'd be willing to give to my pets to eat. Also it is hard to find someone to help you it is a big store. Whenever i go in to purchase a fish I'm usually left waiting for awhile or forced to walk the whole store until I can track someone down. The customer service is okay I know more about reptiles and fish then most of the associates though so I don't bother getting second opinions from them anymore. I have 2 GSD's so you can imagine how furry my apartment is. It was about time for one of my four-legged shedding machine to get groomed so we took her here. We got the Furminator package in hopes to reduce her shedding. 4.5 hours later... she looked pretty much the same. You're probably thinking "duhh she's a shepherd" -Yes. But she's in between a long and short coat. You could tell they did some work on her... but when we got home we brushed her out and was able to fill up a bag of undercoat. If you have a big high-maintenance dog I wouldn't recommend coming here. On the plus side she did smell like fresh baked cookies. read more

After moving to the area 2&1/2 years ago, we were lucky enough to find a wonderful groomer at this salon named Kim. She did an amazing job with my special needs cocker and never overcharged us. Today however, even though my appointment was with kim my son and I had to deal with a rude woman named Roberta, who planned on charging us an extra $35 (usually pay about $50 for a shave down, no scissoring). Even after talking with the manager of the salon they were insisting on charging $85 for a shave down even though every time we've been there we paid much less. Seems like the salon manager and Roberta really need a course in customer service and client satisfaction. If kim ends up leaving them, I hope she contacts me, she's wonderful. read more

My roommate and I came here to buy some fishy friends for our beta. We had been told by a friend (she's somewhat of a fish expert) of a few types of fish that can live with betas, and we needed some algae-eating fish. Win-win right? The girl who helped us with the fish, I believe her name was Natalie, told us opposite information that we had heard and now the fish she told us to get are bullying our beta and shredding his tail, something our friend told us would happen as soon and she saw which fish Natalie suggested we get. Not to mention, she completely man handled our Placo. He died within a few hours after we brought him home. I've never had a fish die that fast and I fully believe it's because of the way he was handled. Furthermore, she had a bad attitude the whole entire time and seemed annoyed we were even there in the first place, when all we wanted was a happy lively tank. I love my beta and would not have put him in this position and I'm writing this with a really heavy heart because of how the dynamics in the tank are working out and how sad my beta seems to be now. I will never be returning here simply for the attitude received, the misinformation, and treatment of the animals that I witnessed. Update: my beta is now dead because of the fish we were told to get. He was very beautiful and the reason we got a tank in the first place, I never thought I'd be this upset over a fish but here I am, so thank you. read more

They always give my dog attention and listen to me rant about how wonderful he is (crazy dog mom). I am very picky about the stuff I give my pup and they listen and suggest what they think he would like. I just received excellent service I know it's late holiday hours but the manager who was putting stock away stopped what she was doing just to ask me if I needed help, I did. I needed a dog food that didn't have chicken in it. This kind manager walked me over to where the dog food with out chicken was located and sure enough it was just what I needed. I also have to mention I already picked out aNother dog food and with it on my shoulders she told me she would take this seemingly hundred pound sack back for me !? I kindly obliged. She said no problem: I love it ! I LOVE the grooming salon here. I've been coming her for almost a year now and I have always gotten a great haircut for a good price. I had a negative experience at pet co and so naturally was nervous to try petsmart but was pleasantly suprised. The girl I go to is always pleasant to talk to and she always does an amazing haircut on my boy. the one thing I will say is that they seem to be pretty busy all the time so sometimes you need to call at least a couple days in advance for an appointment, and sometimes it takes a while to get my boy back but that's okay because I can tell they truly care about animals and I know they will take great care of my boy. I will never go to anyone else. read more
