I came into the Fredericksburg, VA, store to buy cat litter as I couldn't find it anywhere else (otherwise I would not have set a foot inside) and I saw several of these fish containers empty, but with a bright green "moss" on the bottom. As I walked past in horror, I relaized it was not moss, but the remains of the dead fish that had sunk to the bottom. At the top of your website you claim: "10,316,479 lives saved". I went to pet smart looking to buy some rats. I bought 2 and in 3 months 1 died. The other one was ok but I went back to get another. In the next 2 months that one died too and now I am left with one depressed rat. I will never but rats here again they had nice employees though but still. It wasn't until the prompt to review popped up that I realized this PetsMart was different than the one on the west side. It was so identical that I forgot I hadn't been to this one before. Whoops! The place is tidy, the prices are sort of high, but on the upside the animals look like they're in good shape. Cages are clean and none of them seemed overcrowded and the small animals all had hides to escape into. You are welcome to bring your pet in to roam the aisles and on my visit there were plenty of cats from local shelters who needed homes. It's hard to pet them through the bars but if I'd been serious about adopting I could have had someone open the cages up for me. Pricier than your generic big box store but a much bigger selection if you're looking for something beyond cats and dogs. read more

I brought my perfectly health dog in and he left in a cast. The only reason this is getting 2 stars instead of one is because of how management handled the situation. I brought my dog into his scheduled appointment time of 130pm. I mentioned how my dog gets anxious. Instead of cleaning him they put him in a cage and he was injured from that. I get a call 2 and a half hours later from the manager explaining that my dog was hurt and was taken to the vet. He's now on pain killers for the next week. Hopefully it doesn't get infected. On top of all that he wasn't even groomed during that time. If you value your dogs safety do not take them here. read more

Not only will never shop there again, I encourage everyone to spread the word of their abusive practices. I've noted a couple of questionable behaviors by employees towards animals in the past that had me shopping there less. However this last week it came to my attention that an employee was beyond abusive to a bird in her care. When a customer witnessed a bird with its head stuck in a toy she quickly informed said employee. The employee then took the bird out of the cage and rather than freeing the bird from the toy, the employee threw the bird into the garbage! When confronted she lied to the customer who witnessed it, as did the manager until the customer insisted on seeing inside the trash can! These people are supposedly animal lovers who chose to work there so they can take care of these weaker creatures who have no voice. It seems to me they have chosen instead to be abusers and executioners! If this was done outside a store they would be charged for animal cruelty.... I can't help but wonder what poor animals have had to endure there when no one was looking read more

I'm extremely upset with the petsmart in Madison wi. For starters the customer service I received was terrible. The workers were very rude and almost seemed annoyed of my slightly hyper dog as soon as we walked in. Not only did I not get what I paid for, my dog was also soaking wet still when I went to pick him up. He also has a giant blister on his nose from being in a cage that clearly was small enough for him to cause a blood blister on his nose. The girl helping us was so sweet and helpful to my girlfriend and I. They had a mixup in their shipping, but they employees treated us so well. Maybe the most disorganized store I have ever seen. Now, add that in with trying to bring my dog with me into this store...Pure Chaos. My last visit (of many I've made to this PetSmart) made me realize that I'm better off heading to either Fleet Farm or Tabby and Jacks to get whatever I may be looking at locally for my dog. I enjoy the fact I can walk my dog into the store to get what I need, but when I head to the footwear isle to find nothing for medium to large dog sizes I get a little irritated. Do the employee's working here know how to stock the shelves? Why are all the socks and footwear thrown all over the bottom shelf of the clothing isle? Not everyone has a 10 lb dog. I'm not even asking much. I have a 48 lb English Bulldog and I still could not find anything in his size. The last thing I want to do is sift through items thrown all over the floor and shelf. Forget it! I asked a employee if they carried socks for medium to large size dogs (their website says this store does have these items in stock) and instead of even helping me sift through their ridiculous isle I was told, "What you see if what we have". Have had our dog returned to us with things not done, been turned away multiple times because of employee issues, scheduling issues, once because they had no heat, and now because we were 15 minutes late for our 3 hour appt. I went to this PetSmart location last Sunday looking for a food product. I searched the store could not find the product or any employee to assist me. I walked up to the check out which was busy and asked the clerk where I would locate the item I wished to buy. She pointed and said it is back there. I attempted again and searched every isle no luck either finding the product or an employee! I approached the checkout clerk again and said are you two checkouts the only people working here. She said yes and I left in total frustration. Felt bad for the two checkout staff but, where the heck was the manager or enough staff to handle the customers? I went to PetSmart during this Covid19 scare and I was really shocked at the filthy store. I was expecting at minimum, some effort to make the store safe for customers who need to purchase essential items to care for our pets. Sadly. I found it to be dirty, and the public restroom, was so bad that I actually complained to the manager. I never am a complainer at stores. I am not one to complain to managers. However, there was no toilet paper in any stall. There were no paper towels whatsoever. The toilets were full and it looked as though it had been days without any maintenance. I felt like I didn't want to touch the door to get out of the bathroom. When you consider, that the employees likely use that bathroom, you have to consider the fact that they have not washed their hands in that store. Handing off curbside pet supplies is hardly helpful, if the employee is not even washing his or her hands after using the restroom. Drive to the west side store or visit Animart instead. It was truly a horrible experience. If I get Covid 19, it will be because of my visit to PetSmart east of Madison, Wi. read more

They have what I need but that is the only reason I go there. We have had horrible experiences with their customer service. Here is the most remember-able. We had bought a fish tank at this Petsmart and needed to get filters for it. The store doesn't even carry them! So we asked the lady if we could just order it here and she reacted as if we were wasting her time. She said in a rude tone "wait here I have to go see if I can find the ipad." Which really wouldn't be that bad, but she sounded as though we were inconveniencing her. Then we wanted to use a gift card and she said she wasn't sure if we could do that. Then we had a coupon that we got with the fish tank but she said that the Petsmart website doesn't take coupons... I do not believe this is true and I think she was just trying to avoid extra work. Prices are also a bit overpriced. We were going to get a toothed comb for our shedding dog and it would cost us about 40 dollars at the store. We loved this store..... for about a month. Then they sold us fish KNOWING they had ick. We knew it was the new fish because they had spots first. After trying two different medicines all but one of our fish died. We took back the ones we had gotten from petsmart and I said, "hey I think your fish gave our tank ick" the employee responded with "probably we found ick in one of our tanks and there's one fileter for all our tanks" I could not believe it. Why would you knowingly sell someone sick fish? They wouldn't even refund our money for the fish we had bought. If you ask me they should have payed for the rest of the fish they killed and the two bottles of medicine too! We will never go back. read more

The customer service here has always been sub par. sometimes we have brought our pup in for a nail trimming and he is done within a couple of minutes, which questions what they're exactly doing if he can be done in a time period that is less than a few minutes. what completely stopped us from ever going to this alleged "pet grooming salon" is one particular miserable female who was going to shave our pup from head to toe due to a couple of matted areas on his body. she never gave advice as to why or what else can be done. obviously that was her plan because it was convenient for her, and not for us. the freaking customer. please do not support this sad establishment and venture into town a little bit more and go to rufus dumonde pet salon. p.s. other than the laughable salon and their miserable groomers, the store itself is decent with an excellent selection of food and toys. read more

I love bringing my pup here. It's adorable to see how excited he gets when he sees other dogs and people. Some of the items for pups are priced reasonably, some seem cheaper getting at Walmart. But it's your preference and depends on what you're trying to buy for your fur baby. The only part I don't like about this place is when they are teaching some dogs how to behave and they bring the dogs around in the aisle, I was scared to death when I heard a couple of the dogs growling and barking in the next aisle. I had my daughter and Yorkie with me and all of that commotion made me really scared and uncomfortable. I understand that they are trying to teach these dogs how to behave on a leash and in a public area, it just really frightened my daughter, my Yorkie, and myself (being 8 months pregnant) and hearing all of the commotion in the next aisle. I couldn't help but to panic it seemed like hours but it was actually minutes when the people/owner separated the dogs. I don't know... it seems like it can be a touchy subject. I'm just speaking from my view. Although, I do support training pups and older dogs and I am not against that. I, at that time, was just not prepared to handle that incident. The place is really clean and has a nice presentation. It is like any other retail store. Angel's Wish brings in cats on Tuesday for adoption. They will also let you bring in your cat or dog and walk around the store. Staff is always friendly. Prices are a little high though. read more

The WORST!!!!! I just moved from Milwaukee to Madison. I have a little dog who, like most dogs, hates being groomed. Unfortunately he is a shih tzu , so there is no way around it. I took the day off work to get him in. I was called about 30 minutes latter telling me to pick him up, he is to "stressed" be cut. That the stress was bad for his health......Please understand I have never written a review in my life, but the level of unprofessionalism and the fact that a groomer wont groom a dog because " he is stressed" is absolutely absurd! Walked into this PetSmart looking for mealworms for a bearded dragon and nobody was available to help us in the correct section for 15 minutes, so we found an employee elsewhere who was not happy we had asked for his help. He then continued to scold us for giving the beardie mealworms and insisted we get crickets instead, where he left us to stand and wait another 10 minutes. We had been using PetSmart for a couple of years and each experience gets worse and worse. We went in for a "pawdecure" and walked out with just a rough nail trim and still got charged the 20 dollars. After we got home and noticed the lack of paid service, we called and they stated that we had to specify the services that we wanted. I assumed that all of the services listed under "pawdecure" would have been included... I guess not. Many times we had scheduled grooming for our dog and them been told we needed to reschedule because they over booked. I am very upset with the service they provide, and with the hundreds of dollars spent there, I feel that they could be a little bit more organized in their booking process. Came here to pick up kitten food. My husband and I were considering getting a second cat so our 6 month old kitten would have company while we are gone at work. Anyways, we decided to go look at what adoption options they had while we were there and we saw this beautiful 8 month old Siamese mix (same breed as our kitten at home). We saw the fee was only $75 so we're were really leaning towards adopting. However, the kitty was asleep so we were unable to see her personality. We asked an employee of we could take her out to play for a minute and we were told they won't take her out unless we sign the adoption paperwork right then and there. Uh, what? I don't know about the rest of the world, but why the hell would I adopt a cat without even haven seen it walk around or be able touch it at all. If this is really how your policy works then It's a really stupid model. If they had just let us take her out for a minute to make sure she was healthy and a nice fit for us, you may very well have given her a new home last night. read more

After having multiple bad experiences with Animart, I came to PetSmart hoping for some help on my new fish tank. The guy that helped me out told me completely different information than I heard from Animart, but it was actually very correct and helpful information. Animart told me to do a 50% water change after my fish had died, where as the guy at PetSmart told me to just leave it be because all water has to go through its cycle and if I do that large of a water change I would just be screwing myself over and making it take longer. He told me to bring my water in to get tested and we could go from there. I brought my water in and it was fine. He told me about some different fish and which ones would be good to start the tank because they are sturdier and more likely to make it through the cycle. He also sold me a little plant that feeds off of the bad bacteria in the tank. This was about three weeks ago. My fish are still doing fine, my tank is doing great, and I am incredibly happy with my service from this store! read more
