If I could give this store zero stars, I would. *This is a warning to those looking to adopt a cat or dog from this store.* PetSmart was in a partnership with Halfway Home Rescue for 17 years up until recently. Halfway Home is a well noted rescue with high standards who values the care and placement of cats and dogs. PetSmart had an area where you could see adoptable cats from Halfway Home in the store. PetSmart decided that numbers of animals moved in and out of the store were more important than the well being of the actual animals. Halfway home always takes the time to make sure to check references, vet history, home environment, and makes sure each animal has the medical care they need. Halfway Home was asked to leave because PetSmart wanted cats moved every 22 days out of the store. For anyone who has ever adopted an animal, you know this is a slower process to ensure happiness for both owner and more importantly the pet. In short, PetSmart is more concerned with the all might dollar and ultimately corporate greed. I along with many others will be boycotting this store in all locations. read more

The location is clean and staff, while minimal, is friendly. Downside, they decided to part ways with the local animal shelter. Weeks before we had left an adoption application because we were interested in one of the kittens. No one ever got back to us nor did they submit the application to the shelter. It wasn't until we submitted the application directly that we had any sort of response and confirmation. If there was no intention of fulfilling our application due to business changes at least put a sign up. We will no longer shop here. Do better PetSmart. read more

Adopted a cat from here and it was a disaster. I went in interested in adopting a cat, I told them I was a college student and working full time living alone, my childhood cat had just passed away. I wanted a younger cat at the time, not a kitten but just a younger cat. I saw a cute calico one in the window, she looked like she had been through it maybe just came in from being stray. They told me she was young, no older than 2-3 years and completely healthy so I wouldn't have to think about vet bills for at least the first year. I took her home and within the first week something felt off and she seemed sick. I took her to the vet and it turns out she had diabetes and she was an older cat they estimated 8-10 years old. They found multiple things wrong and she needed surgery medications and special care. I'd love to provide this care for a cat but petsmart out right lied to me. I was open about my heartbreak about losing my childhood cat, wanted to adopt one and care for a cat and watch her grow. I didn't sign up for surgeries within the first week, an older cat with special needs. And once again, it breaks my heart I don't have the money and extra time to care for this cat in need I wish I did, but if they cared about who adopted their cats, they would make sure each one was going to the right FIT for a home, not just eager to get rid of them. There is someone out there with the time and thousands of dollars to care for a cat in need but I made it clear it wasn't me, especially to be lied to and have all these vet bills within the first week of having this cat. Shame on you petsmart! You only care about money and turnover rate of animals. I thought why we're partnering with good shelters but I believe they've stopped that bc of their lack of morals. read more

To PetSmart, they care more about numbers than the welfare of animals who have been neglected. Their donations to local charities are a joke. I was there today getting a fish for my granddaughter and Hannah was so helpful and patient and well informed

I have come her from time to time and never had a problem and 99% of the time they had exactly what I needed and that includes this time. I have been looking for a certain substrate for a bunny and out of 4 other pet stores this store finally had what I needed. The staff has always been nice, informative, and professional. I needed a very expensive specific weird food for my dog. I could only find it online at Petsmart. I called the Manchester store and Jason was SO helpful!! He ran all over the store to make sure they had the food and then told me exactly what I had to do to get the prescription from my vet. I'm new to the area but I have used PetSmart grooming services in Tucson, AZ many times without complaint. I did not get what I paid for here. I feel duped & ripped off by the grooming associate, She's either lazy, inept, or both. I'm disgusted & out $70 for subpar service due to a lackadaisical, smug associate. I have a 3yr old, 63lb, female, German Shepherd. She is well-behaved, she's sometimes "dog anxious" but never dog aggressive. She loves attention from people. She has never gotten a bad report from our previous groomers. This appointment was booked for a bath, brush & I added on toothbrushing as I've done in the past. Upon arrival the assigned associate asked about our dogs previous history since we mentioned her dog anxiety. We reassured the associate she is sometimes excited by other dogs but not aggressive. The associate took a moment handling our dog, looking in her ears, picking up each of her paws, looking in her mouth, ruffling her fur from her head to her rear. The dog was non-reactive & completely cooperative. When I asked for a time estimate to plan my afternoon, we were told it would take 3 plus hours because "she's a big dog & I'm not a big person." No problem. It took two & a half hours at most & we went to pick her up promptly. The associate told us she did not brush her teeth because the dog was uncooperative but that she sprayed her teeth & it was adequate. I presumed she removed the $12 toothbrushing charge because she did not complete the service. Much to my chagrin we were still charged for it. Prior to paying I asked for the charge to be removed because she did not brush her teeth. I was told NO, because her teeth were sprayed. I asked if her teeth would be clean because that's what I requested & was paying for. I was assured the spray "does a good job." When we got home, I checked her teeth. I can assure you the tooth spray was not in any way adequate & it did not do "a good job." In fact, it did absolutely nothing. Her teeth were still dirty with noticeable plaque. I am so disappointed in this service especially due to the fact that I was polite & direct & in return I was lied to & dismissed. I had to pay extra for something my dog didn't receive. She refused to remove the charge even though I confronted the issue on the spot. The fact IS she did not perform that part of the service, so why did I have to pay for it? Upon further inspection, my dog still smells. I should have known when the associate sprayed her at the last moment with cologne. She didn't do a thorough job AT ALL. . I cannot believe I paid for such a terrible job. This associate's behavior was ambivalent & she was making excuses for herself from the beginning. If she didn't feel comfortable grooming a German Shepherd she should have assigned the job to a true professional who is proficient in grooming a German Shepherd thoroughly. This person is an awful representative of your business. I will be looking elsewhere from now on. read more

I took my 5 month old German Shepherd puppy to get her nails trimmed today and we had an amazing experience! Everyone was so nice and extremely helpful! It was not an easy task taking a hyper puppy and toddler into the store but our groomer was extremely accommodating and patient with us. I waited less than 15 minutes and it was only $20 with tax for the nail grinding ! This was our first time taking our dog for professional nail trimming and I'm so glad we came here ! Jennifer is great the problem is if she isn't there the employees want nothing to do with grooming your dog. Jennifer always tells me what a good dog I have. In the middle of a haircut they called me and said your dog is old and won't stand, come and get her. They didn't even do her face, you have to stand for that? She is only 12 she came home prancing around not at all lethargic. They told us to find someone else to groom her, someone that wants to deal with old dogs. read more

The groomers I swore by have left bc frankly the current corporate structure is deplorable and the food I've been regularly buying has been increased (but yet everyone remained the same). So I'm done....within the last 4 months corporate office has stated "they are in a transition stage and that they thank me for being a loyal customer for 10 years" The acting store manager even reached out after physically being showed the bathrooms and urine all over the floor....stating they experienced some call outs blah blah blah. ....well I'm done, the "petperks aren't worth it. read more

She tried to tell me my dog hasn't been brushed and needs to be completely shaved down . She said she wouldn't spend an hour getting his knots out (aka she's lazy and it's too time consuming for her). He wasn't even that knotted, he had a few on his legs and nothing more then usual l. Kat ALWAYS worked with him and had NO ISSUE cutting his hair to the length I wanted . Kelly is a lazy, entitled b--ch. I don't care how long you've worked there, don't you ever try to disrespect a costumer and tell them to go "somewhere else then" and saying "kat may have got the knots out and hurt dogs but I won't" when he's barely even knotted you're just an extremely lazy individual who shouldn't have the job you so. Petsmart, tell this woman she needs to be less rude to customers & learn some manners. So extremely disappointed with this behavior and will not be back at Petsmart grooming salon. read more

Wonderful for field trips (see my previous review), but horrible for grooming. They asked me to bring dog in for 9am, which led me to think he had a 9am appointment. I figured I would wait for him, watch them work, see how it's done. Nope. They took him in at 9am, after giving me a hard time about proving vaccines, and then locked him in a cage until they were ready for him. I got an angry phone call at 10:30am, after I had driven all the way home, telling me they couldn't handle him, and that he was "doing alligator rolls" (what are those?). I must come pick him up right now. I drove back over, and they expected to be paid! I argued down to $9, as they had done his nails (but not well). My dog must have freaked out because they locked him in a cage (which he's not used to), then proceeded to ignore him for 75-80 minutes. BTW - my dog is a 9-pound neutered runt of a shih tzu, with the sweetest personality. He has never behaved in that way. read more

Went to PetSmart in North Haven yesterday 7/11 to get my dog's nails clipped. The grooming section was a mess. Dog hair all over 2 tables that covered the floor. The phone was ringing and the girl just kept putting everyone on hold and never going back. You could hear the guy in the backroom giving another dog a bath and the dog was howling and caring on and I could hear how hard the water pressure was coming out of the hose when they opened the door. Obviously understaffed but at a certain point stop taking customers. My dogs did fine with all but one paw.. the girl was standing on one side of the dog reaching over him to pull his paw back and up which was hurting him he was yelping and jumping around. She kept trying... I asked should I come hold him ... no answer.. so she got help from the guy in the backroom and now two people are leaning on my 20 pound dog still pulling his paw back and up and he is yelping and kicking about till my dog broke free. I was trying to tell them to stop before the dog broke free... and then charged me $14 for a nail clipping that was unfinished. Mad at myself for not walking out once I looked around and saw the place in chaos. Only went there because the Petco (who only charges $10 btw for a nail clipping) groomer had closed for the day but I was thinking this is just a nail clipping what could go wrong... in & out, my mistake ... I will never take my dog there again. read more

They never do what I ask them to do. My dog was acting so different yesterday after her groom that I called the animal hospital to ask for signs of her being drugged. She wouldn't play with her ball or anything. The first time I brought her, I asked for a 4 blade and the woman did a 2 blade because she "liked it better". Petco North Haven Ct. 2 weeks ago my wife and i visited Petco to purchase a 15 gallon aquarium combo. We did not need any assistance , however a employee of this store overheard us and said " that tank is too small for goldfish.... there spine will curve and kill them..you should just pick a much larger tank" i asked her "if that is the case why do you sell goldfish bowls and tanks as small as a shoebox ??" her reply was " we really shouldn't" and "the picture on the box you have in your cart is wrong ..what you are planning is cruel" our plan was to very small goldfish in a 15 gallon tank and then move the to our 75 gallon tank . i called petco and emIled them ..they said they would look into it and get back to me..i never heard from them. read more

I have been going to the Pet Smart in North Haven and working the groomer,Amanda. I have been very pleased. The dogs are always groomed to our liking. In addition, we have two dogs and they go to the salon together. Amanda will contact me as soon as the first dog is finished. The dog has high blood pressure so I appreciate the groomer to taking the time to send me a text to pick up the pet. I see some people make comments about the phone ringing. I have made complaints as well, to the manager, saying that I felt they needed a dedicated person for scheduling and walk ins. But the most mportant aspect is how safe you and the pet feel there. There will most probably always be hair on the floor. Our dogs and family have been very happy with the grooming at Pet Smart ,Hamden. Get to know a groomer that can help. read more

Hi I took my 9 year old Chihuahua last night to have his nails done , the people were very pleasant and did a fabulous job. In fact they did a better job than Pet Co. This review is not for the entire grooming salon but for 1 specific person who works there named Erica. I use them for my dogs but there's a dark haired young lady with a very lazy/whatever/nasty attitude at the front desk. Yesterday my groomer asked her for help holding my dog while her nails were filed and she couldn't have responded slower and was completely uninterested. She never has a friendly greeting or demeanor. I'm considering finding a different place to go for grooming - despite the fact that the other ladies are nice. Smh. I take my dog here for grooming services and I've been very satisfied. The girls who work in the grooming salon are very sweet and have always done a great job. They have always been able to do nails and facial and ear trim as a walk in. I opt for the nail grinding which is $13. I also buy most of my other pet supplies here and I think they have a very good selection of dog food. I was glad to see they carry some of the natural brands of dog food like Blue Buffalo, Call of the Wild, Wellnes, and Innova in addition to the big brands. read more

I really like this Petsmart location. Everyone in there is so nice and helpful. I've utilized both the Banfield Veterinary Services and the Grooming services and I have loved the service at both. I have signed up for their puppy orientation scheduled for next month. Reptiles at this location are poorly cared for and their procedures are ridiculously stupid and not in the best interest of the wellbeing of the reptiles. The fish I get from here die almost every time also killing the fish that are currently in my tank. It's rediculous, The only place that causes me to loose all my fish, I never have a problem with fish from any other store! read more

Here's what I'll say about PetSmart and bringing your dog here for grooming - actually the same goes for the Banfield Veterinary services. I brought my boy Woody to the PetSmart in Hamden on Dixwell Ave once and never again will I darken their doorway with myself after that experience, but I'm fairly sure you will have the same experience more or less at any one of their stores. For food and supplies? GREAT! A bit pricey, but they all are. For the other stuff - and here it comes, my "review": You get what you pay for. And even though they're pretty much the SAME price give or take, it's a CHAIN STORE. How do you think your "Italian" food is going to be at Olive Garden, huh? Or your Chinese from a Panda store? I think the food analogy works well for this. So yeah, you won't find the best Anything at a PetSmart except what they originally intended: pet supplies. The two guys there that are vets are amazing. You can tell they really know their stuff about cats. Everytime I ask a question, they answer it fully in a way that makes sense to a non-vet person. I love them, so attentive and caring. My cat is so healthy thanks to them. read more

The grooming people are the grouchiest set of women I've ever seen. The short chubby spanish one has a total lack of ambition or customer friendliness. Also, the groomer I dealt with named Kelly I think, she was an older lady, had the nerve to call me about 5 minutes after I dropped my dog off that he was "too aggressive". um, he's about 16 pounds, a min pin mix and always gets his nails cut usually at Petco with no problem ! I will add that I was 10 minutes late to my appointment for both my dogs and she said that they could do the other ones bath but not my "aggressive" one and had to pick him up. I'm pretty sure they were being lazy and didn't wanna do both of their baths. she tried to catch an attitude with me and I just decided to pick up both of them and take them to Petco. they both got their services done at Petco, and my "aggressive " dog got his nails cut and grinded with no problem what so ever LOL. never will spend another dime at petsmart grooming, unless they change their lazy miserable staff read more
