Petsmart Appt Screw Up 2.19.24 The afternoon of Sunday, Feb. 18th, I went into PetSmart grooming salon to schedule an appointment on Monday, Feb. 19th at 11:30 AM for my dog, Bandit. Vanessa told me that Bandit's appt was all set and she would see me at 11:30 AM the next day. Then I received emails from Vanessa for: Confirming the appointment: 1#. Wrong dog, wrong time, correct day. #2. Wrong dog, wrong day, wrong time (appt. was for 11am on Sunday, Feb. 18th and I received the email on Feb. 18th at 5:03pm SIX hrs after appt. day/time! I called, spoke with Vanessa, told her the appt's were for the wrong dog and the wrong time. She told me to just bring in the right dog at 11:30. I asked for an email confirmation, she said her system would not let her send it. Next I received a cancellation for the #3. right day, right time, wrong dog. Then a confirmation for #4. right dog, right day, wrong time. Then Email cancellation for #5. wrong dog, correct time, correct day! Petsmarts email confirmation indicates 1-2 hrs for appt. I called after 2.5 hrs to see if I could pick her up. Vanessa insisted she told me 2-3 hrs. Received #6. "Bandit is ready to pick up" three hours after drop off (see pic #4 - 1-2 hrs for appt). 7. Appointment emails I received on 2.18 from Petsmart! When I went into Petsmart at 2:40pm to pick up Bandit. Vanessa told me that because I was so difficult to schedule and had an issue with my dogs pick up time being more than 3 hours after the appt, she had gone to her manager and Bandit was not allowed to come back for grooming. Unbelievable. I had moved to KC in July and had taken both dogs before to this Petsmart for grooming with no issues. Maybe 1 out of 15 of my reviews are negative. I could not let this one go without alerting others to avoid Petsmarts mistakes and miscommunication. Vanessa blamed this on ME! Maybe she was having a bad day, maybe she is new, but very confused and defensive about the mistakes when scheduling Bandit. It makes it makes it easy move around the store and it's spacious enough to accommodate multiple shoppers along with their fur-babies. Their staff is excellent, friendly, knowledgeable. They have a huge selection in every areas for the comforts of home inside and out. They have a wide variety of food to treats, collars and leashes to a huge selection toys for play or training. Everything you could possibly need or want for travel. The list of products could go on and on. BUT, I can't end this without mentioning they have an in-store full grooming service. I've been a longtime PetSmart patron - different stores, different cities. With this specific store, I've had two completely opposite experiences. My first in-store visit was such a 1-star visit that I wouldn't have returned. Fortunately for them, I had already signed up our new puppy for weekly training classes before that visit, and those training classes have been so well done, that it pulls back two stars. Let's begin with the positive: the dog training. I called the store to find out details about the training class options and details, and received stellar service from the associate. He was knowledgeable, knew answers to all my questions (and there were many), and offered me a discount due to a promotion they were running. I quickly signed up. The training class itself is run by a pet-passionate, animal-avid-enthusiast who is truly gifted at her art. Between the instruction during the class and the reinforcement we've practiced during the time in between classes, our once-unruly pup is now and lean, mean, obedience machine! 5/5 stars for the training staff, teacher and program. A tremendous value. Now, to balance the scales.... On my first visit to the store, I was looking to research foods for our new puppy. Immediately upon entering, I could see a handful of product vendors for just about every product the store sold. Not a big deal in and of itself. Most of the time those folks keep to themselves unless you walk up and chat or ask for information. Once we got to the food aisles, the Blue Buffalo rep sunk her sights on us, and would not back down. She asked a couple questions about what we were looking for, and about our inbound puppy, and made her pitch. I smiled, thanked her, and said we were there to simply research. I even let her know she did a good job and that I would take the information she provided into strong consideration when making my choice. After talking a bit more and again trying to ensure we walked out with a Blue Buffalo product that day, I dismissed her a little more firmly. Suffice to say the cue was still not heeded. She began pitching again, to which I literally had to grab my son's hand, turn from her, and leave the store. The experience went far past consultative sales, and pretty much guaranteed that I'll not only never purchase a Blue Buffalo product so long as my heart beats, I will also not shop at this PetSmart any longer. A store and manager that allows such horribly aggressive sales tactics from its preferred vendors and partners should be ashamed. That said, if you have puppy training needs in the southeast KC area, I do highly recommend their trainer and program! read more

Went there for a urinary issue and the vet couldn't even collect a sample. Last time we went there, he came back with a leg injury. Never had a problem with any other vet office. I feel they are not qualified vets/vet techs or they are under pressure to hurry through appointments which is funny because it took them 40+ minutes to tell us they couldn't do anything. This company should be shut down. They have been through three salon managers this year, thirty three turn overs since their new manager started. They refuse people a safe place to breast feed, and withhold pay if you try to start maternity leave during a "busy season". This is not my story, this is the story of other women who have worked here recently. Do not support a business whose corporate HR allows people to work here in these conditions. If you go here, and your dog doesn't receive the grooming you like, it's probably because their people are overworked due to lack of staffing, and they just shovel dog after dog into appointments to make more profit. I took my dog for her first groom at petsmart, they did a horrible job. I didn't even recognize my puppy. She looked so bad and sad. The groomer was rude. I gave her a tip for her efforts but look at my pup. The groomer didn't even smile or greet us until we tipped her. After I picked my dog up, she slept the rest of the day. Odd for my pup, as she is active. The groomer name was Christina and brystal, I hate to blast them like this, but... just look at the photos. My pup is a poodle with very curly hair! Do NOT EVER purchase a bearded dragon or any other reptile from this location!! We purchased a "fancy" bearded dragon in September 2022 and it was sick when sold to us with an incurable disease, Adenovirus (AVD). It is a highly contagious virous most likely from the vendor they buy from, and dont bother vetting. So now I have a house full of kids devastated that their friend is dying and it's all due to the fact that we were sold it that way. Reached out to customer service, was told that my Olathe location would reach out to me but never had, almost a week out. Who knows how many other families are being heartbroken because of this greedy negligence. I plan on forwarding ALL of my high-dollar vet bills to Petsmart to trust they will do the right thing and reimburse me for the hundreds of dollars spent verifying what Petsmart knew was wrong from the get go. This corporation should be absolutely ashamed of themselves and utterly guilt ridden for selling dying animals. Absolutely gutted. Pet Groomer, Lea was AMAZING. We'd had a negative experience the day before at the store in Columbia, MO. (dog wash not thoroughly washed, was still quite wet and very smelly for our trek across MO back home.) We stopped in to the Olathe store to see if we could get some help. Not only did Lea help by correcting what the other store did wrong, she gave us very knowledgeable information about our dog's skin condition and what could help. (Her info matched our vet's recommendations.) She made the entire experience right, actually enjoyable, and called the CoMo store manager to make sure the groomer there received proper education. Great store! Our dog gets groomed at the grooming salon at this Petsmart, and they do a great job every time. The site is generally pretty clean and obviously pet friendly. The attached Banfield is also great. (My dog has the wellness plan and it's really convenient.) Prices are sort of high, but sales bring good deals and they aren't any higher than other similar stores. The only problem was leaving: there is a big pothole near the exit that is the right-turn-only on Strang Line. Not sure if that it's Petsmart's problem but maybe they can work with Target or the property owner to get that patched up soon! read more

This is re: grooming at the Petsmart, 119th St.... I have taken my dog there to get the "Pawdicure" a number of times because my dog likes going to Petsmart - never once have they done the spritzing with cologne or given me a bandana unless I ask, yet these are supposed to be included in the price of the Pawdicure - that's what it states on their website. When I asked for a bandana once after the Pawdicure, one of the groomers said "well, those are normally $5 but ok." - EXCUSE ME! Then don't advertise that if you don't want to give me a bandana! They could ASK if we wanted the spritzing or not as some pets are allergic, I'm sure. It's on the list of the Pawdicure service. The attitude seems to be that the client is inconveniencing them. I will absolutely NOT allow the short, blond headed lady to touch my dog! The last time I took my boy in for a Pawdicure in June 2017, Rachel took care of my boy with such gentleness and care. Just the OPPOSITE of what this short, blond headed lady did! - I stood there and watched her very roughly handle a poor little dog that was so scared because this woman was yanking a wire slicker brush hard through his coat. It had to hurt because the dog was crying. (I use a slicker brush on mine and do it gently, not digging into the skin.) Then she yanked his paw back with such force that I almost went to find the manager of the store! She could have dislocated something the way she was handling him. This woman looked angry as she was doing it. The poor dog was crying at the top of his lungs with that yank and rightly so after she yelled at him "STOP that, you are such a BABY." Well, SHE wouldn't want that treatment done to her. She has absolutely NO BUSINESS being a groomer. Petsmart needs to fire her. There seems to be a turnover at this particular store in the grooming area. Now the one (Rachel) who was so gentle with my boy is gone so I'm going to find a different place to take my dog. I realize some pets are terrified and are difficult to handle but such rough treatment and trauma just add to the owner's dilemma of fear of grooming and of people in general. This seems to happen each and every time that we go to a PetsMart so I will say it is not just this location. On today's trip we could have overpaid a total of $12 dollars total on 8 items. Please pay attention as this is essentially theft! Honestly I am annoyed with this location. I have come here for almost 2 years for my pet supply needs and the last two visits have been negative and now I'm ready to spend money elsewhere. My dog is enrolled in their puppy training classes and on Saturday a rescue volunteer yelled at me when one of the rescue dogs old collar broke. Volunteer was trying to blame me for my dog "upsetting the rescue dogs" when we are literally just trying to walk past and do our training exercises, not interacting with dogs. She proceeded to yell at me over and over while I am trying to walk my dog away but I was trapped in by people and dogs. I called the petsmart manager about this and he was understanding and said he would talk to the volunteer. Now I just rented a carpet cleaner and returned it on time, and the manager is telling me "it's not clean u dont get the deposit back" when the cashier yesterday (who rented it to me) told me to rinse out the tanks and make sure brush is not full of hair. Neither were, they found some fur clumps which I offered to remove in store. They kept talking about "grime" when I used it for 2 small spots and had it less than 24 hours. Manager was trying to tell me I could take it home to clean, and cut me off when I was trying to tell her what cashier told me. I am pretty dissatisfied with the customer service and I am honestly thinking about withdrawing my dog from training classes so I dont have to come back here. Manager did give me deposit, which I was owed because I cleaned it as instructed. read more

I adopted a dog from the KC Pet Project, she's a beagle hound mix, large breed. When we got her she was on Wholehearted chicken food and I came in the store knowing I needed to switch her food to a better brand, but also a fish based meal as her skin had tons of dander and clumps of hair came out of her coat. She was shedding like crazy and didn't have much energy. A wonderful employee walked me around every isle probably three times while I rambled, I asked for what she recommended and she lead me to their own brand called Simply Nourish, I bought a small bag to switch my dog and by the end of the week I was back to buy the 24 lb bag. After one week she barely sheds, runs like a greyhound and her coat is so much softer. It made a world of difference! Not only is it affordable but I can order online and pick up in the store with no hassle. Wonderful location! read more

Took my 16 year old to get three guppies on Saturday. By Monday one had died. Called and was told that she could take it back (they did not offer that information when she purchased the three fish initially). She did, and was reluctant to get another one, however I convinced her to go back that same day as they would not give her the cash back, only a gift card (purchase was put on my Petsmart shopper card). When she did go back to the store, she waited 10 minutes to be helped and was ignored. Then she went to the register and was told the store was closing in 10 minutes, and they would not assist her. I absolutely love the store. I rated it a one for the Pet Groomers. DON'T TAKE YOUR DOGS TO GET THEIR HAIRCUT HERE. I honestly feel they should get these girls to get a license in pet grooming from the state, just the same way people go to school for their cosmetology license. (And I'm saying this because I'm a barber and I asked the lady at the desk how many hours I would have to do to get my "pet groomers license" and she said that you didn't have to go to school for it, that PetSmart trains you which should have given me a red flag) My mother have had a few small problems whenever she took her Pekingese there, but because I've literally known my mom my whole life - I felt she was exaggerating. The lady I talked to was nice and I asked her what I wanted and politely told her my mother had been complaining about them hurting Monkey (our dog) around his genital area. She apologized and said they would try not to do it again, then this blonde lady took him from me. When I got him back, he was completely butchered. I was SO pissed, but I thought as long as Monkey wasn't hurt -I don't care. It was already becoming summer and he needed the short uneven hair anyways. It will always grow back. Then I noticed both his cheeks were red and he cried whenever I touched him around there. That was not OKAY with me. I called and they gave me a refund. 2 months later exactly last Monday (June 27, 2016) my parents had been gone for three weeks on vacation and my older sister wanted to take Monkey to the groomers to get him all nice and ready for my mom. I told her to please, PLEASE advice the people at PetSmart to be super careful since what happened last time. I just didn't trust them at all, and not to mention I'm pregnant and haven't been taking my anxiety medication, she assured me everything was going to be "okay." Wrong. She brings Monkey back and the first thing he does is lifts up his little leg indicating something was wrong. Not only did they hurt his genitals, but also all of his paws. I felt so bad and wanted to call and give them a piece of my mind, but I didn't have the receipt or the debit card my sister used. That's not even the worst part, every night since last Monday (it has been 3 nights now) Monkey has been crying all night because his genitals were hurting. I had to stay up with him until 3-4 in the morning to console him and get him to fall asleep. Keep in mind that I am pregnant and close to labor. They took him to the vet this morning to get shots and the vet even said they hurt him really bad and to not go back. It was seriously that bad that the vet even had to tell us what we already knew and gave us medicine for the pain, so he wouldn't keep me up all night. They should really just shut down that part of the place and Kansas should pass a law that you have to get a state license for it. If you took your kid to get his haircut, regardless if he moves a lot or not, you wouldn't want the hairstylist to hurt him several times or butcher his hair and expect you to pay the full price. Let alone be okay with it. If I could rate the pet groomers a 0, I would. Don't take your dogs there anymore. read more

I would not buy pets here anymore. They have a decent selection of supplies. We've bought two aquariums here and lots of dog toys, reptile and hamster supplies. I will not buy any more animals. Three dead African dwarf frogs. I've wed the frogs before for years with no issues. These dead in a few days. Don't buy neon tetras. Purchased five. Two dead and three previous ones died soon after. They apparently have neon tetra disease that will transfer to your other neons and kill them too. They don't know male from female on their anoles. Told me two I bought were female. Both male. Fighting within days. Had to return one. Got an Asian long tail lizard at same time. Died within two weeks. Unknown reason. They don't seem to care. Don't buy pets here. read more

The girl waited on 2 other customers that had arrived before I did and one of them was getting a free service while I was going to be a PAYING customer. I called the store and spoke to the manager who basically just said she would talk to the girl...I am certain that will be about as helpful as a hole in the head. Will NOT EVER go to this store again. I had already quit buying my dog food there as CHEWY.COM had the same food for nearly half the price and actually have it in stock all the time. About 3 weeks ago I adopted a somewhat out of control dog from Olathe Animal Shelter. This poor guy really needed a home. When his family moved out they left him inside the home I guess just to die. Luckily the Olathe Police Department discover him. Although extremely emaciated he was still a happy and friendly guy. But definitely in need of some training. I signed him up for beginner lessons at the PetSmart in Olathe. Riggs has reactionary issues when on a leash and when he sees other dogs he gets so excited to play that it seems like he is attacking as he's has a very vicious bark to him when excited. Because of Riggs extreme Behavior Ammie the dog Trainor decided he could not be in class with other animals. But rather than just refund my money and send me on my way she offered me private lessons. At no extra charge. Simply Amazing! PetSmart and their trainers truly are interested in helping people out with dogs with behavior issues or who just need regular training. I was so worried that I wouldn't be able to handle Riggs and I would have to return him to the shelter which would have been horrible for poor Riggs and for me. THANK YOU AMMIE AND PETSMART!!! Sara was so helpful. My daughter just purchased a husky a few weeks ago and today she realized it has tapeworms. I called PetsMart in Olathe and spoke to Sara. She asked a lot of questions about the type of worms the puppy has. I told her we would be there in 10 minutes. Sara looked for us when we arrived and helped with getting the correct medicine for the puppy. Sara was wonderful and very knowledgeable.
