I guess I dont know what I was saying when I said that this place was like Petco. I take that back- this place is way better than Petco. It has a instore Vet Services, Groomer ( Day Spa), pet scale, and the place is very spacous and CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN! We took our dog Jack in for a spa (wash, brush, blow dry, anual gland expression, ear cleaning, and nail clipping for $26 bucks. Great deal. I am very impressed with this store in Salem compared to petco or other animal stores in Salem. The trainer for dog training classes is Larah , who is the main trainer for PetSmart in Salem and she is excellent. She is very good with all dogs and does a great job with spreading knowledge and care. She is very good and makes the Salem PetSmart worth it. read more

This is my favorite pet store in this area. I have so many good experiences here that I always want to go back, except the only problem is...it's in New Hampshire. I took puppy classes here and LOVED it! My trainer Tamika was awesome! She was very knowledgeable about the training and questions we asked, she took the time out before every session to ask about our dogs and situations that arises at home. When we trained she walked around and gave us tips and it was just worth the money. The place is always clean and when you walk in this location is just huge. There's a wide selection of dog toys, dog foods (ad my food is always in stock), they have a section for horses (which is huge), and there's the pet hospital. The staff is always friendly and helpful, not to mention knowledgeable. You don't have to walk far to find a staff member to help you on something. I really like this place and I just went back recently after not being there and it just put a smile on my face. My favorite thing about this store is the little stations that you have in case your pet makes an accident on the floor (paper towels, spray, trash can, hand sanitizer, and something else I can't remember). Brought my new pup Jack with me to the store ... he was alright with the other dogs, but the store itself is very clean and neat and the personnel are very helpful ... huge variety of food and accessories. Plenty of parking. I have to go back to get a few other things ,,, some blue buffalo food and nail clippers ... and maybe the fur-minator (he's a JRT, so they tend to shed with the smooth coat). I have to say it is real nice to be able to shop with Jack around. Heard the classes are great, and I probably will attend a few to get Jack a little more obedient. read more

The groomers are fantastic- most are very friendly and they always do a great job with my dogs. The store manager is great. She let me phone in payment after picking up my dog. My car had been broken into and wallet stolen. She was very understanding, and worked with me in order to pick up my pup. I take my dogs every month for grooming. read more

We took my sister's dog to PetSmart's grooming department today. The groomer was very friendly and thorough, and she answered all my sister's questions. I wish I knew her name. My sister's dog was shaking as she usually does at the groomers. After we left her with the groomer, I turned around as we were walking away and noticed the groomer hold her close to comfort her. The groomer did a great job. She even trimmed around the paws. This was a quick trim, but it looked almost like a full groom. read more

I had a difficult experience with grooming services at this store and will not be returning for future services. I went online and booked an appointment for 6 PM - 7 PM. When I showed up for the appointment at 6 PM, the stylist told me that it would be 4 hours for the services - which were a bath and blowdry only. My dog has short hair, he doesnt need it cut, and it dries very quickly. She told me that I dont actually have an appointment for 6 PM - 7 PM and that the website isnt clear about the 4 hour appointments. She told me that other dogs can come in for walk-in appointments, and this may delay my dog's appointment. I ended up taking my dog home wet at 8 PM (early) because I had to be somewhere. I was still charged the full amount. They are leaving dogs to hand out in crates even if they have an appointment. They also have a poorly designed appointment scheduling services online that should let you know the amount of time you need to leave your dog. Fortunately, there are lots of other options out there for pet supplies and grooming. read more

I called and scheduled an appointment at the Salem location last Saturday, and upon my arrival I was told it could be up to 4 hours before my dog was ready.. for a basic wash ( ear clean, nail trim) meanwhile the groomers accept walk-ins when others take the initiative to schedule an appt.. I was called about 2.5 hours after my dog was dropped off and was told he was ready.. only to show up and be informed that "he did not allow them to trim his nails and a vet would be better at attempting the service" which is the reason I scheduled the appt in the first place.. The service I made an appt for comes with nail trim which I was charged for and did not receive. The right thing to do and keep a customer coming back would have been to deduct the cost. $40 for a wash and ear clean.. won't be returning. read more

Don't buy blue Buffalo.. please check the number of complaints.. my 6 month old puppy died after 15 hrs of eating this product. An hour after she ate it she was vomiting.. I do love PetSmart. I like it because of the huge selection and they sponsor a local kittie shelter. I fell in love with the place once I realized you can use multiple coupons on one item, even if it's over the total. My last purchase: One litter on sale for $12. 1 premium cat chow on sale for $28 some cats toys and mice. The cat chow had two save $3 now coupons on the bag, ripped those off. I also brought with me (From their mailer), two -$5 for the food and two -$7 for the litter. Overall i think the purchase total was $70 and I paid twenty something. I don't know what they would do if you just had the one item at $12 and $20 worth of coupons... give you cash back?!?! read more

Today we had our little puppy, Ella, groomed by Cara and it was the best grooming experience we've had the pleasure of receiving! She was super sweet, knowledgable, so kind to our baby girl and went above and beyond with the service! This was her first grooming experience and she made Ella feel at ease and able to enjoy being beautified! She looks incredibly cute now and Cara even topped it off with a little bow on her head! A young woman named Stephanie helped my gf and I with adopting an animal today through the AWS section in the store. It's great that they offer adopted animals there too and had a variety of rodents, birds and even some reptiles! And at adoption prices too. But Stephanie was the best! She was very helpful, polite, knowledgeable and best of all, is clearly very compassionate toward all the animals there. :) so happy we came in and that she was there to help us and answer so many specific questions. I brought my dog here to be groomed two times. The first time went really well and Denise said that my dog was really sweet. I was a little nervous- he is a rescue that was abandoned and is very needy but still a big gentle boy. The second visit went horribly wrong. I dropped him off, talked to the staff about his fear of abandonment, asked if they could do a better job on his nails (they grind and I imagine it freaked my dog out so they were pretty long after the first visit). Well 3 hours and 40 minutes later they call and say he is done. When I picked him up one of the techs was sitting with him which I really appreciated but he was still very damp and they did not do his nails- they said he got 'bitey' and the safety of the staff is their priority. I get that. I was told to bring him to a vet as they would not do it. They also said he would not go into a crate- yeah, I did tell them he had abandonment issues- perhaps if the visit didn't take almost 4 hours it would have been less of a problem. They spoke to me like they were completely annoyed and it was my fault. Then as I am finishing up another woman walks in and complained about her dog's nails- she had just left and returned when she noticed. They told her they would redo the nails with so much reluctance and it would take 45 minutes. 45 minutes? So I am now seeing a pattern. They should really clip the nails anyway. My biggest issue is that they called my dog 'bitey'- he is super sweet- and that's a very serious accusation. He has been groomed about 6 times since I've had him, the only complaint I have ever gotten was that he could not be left alone because he would cry- really cry- like he was being murdered. He is a scared loving and nervous boy- but not at all aggressive. I will never take him back there for grooming. I left that place with such a sinking feeling for my dog. We both deserve better. read more

Okay so going along with the reviewers this store does have a great selection and i do love the doggy clean up stations BUT if you have ever thought about going here for your dogs grooming needs I will caution there is one woman in particular who seems like she hates her job (and dogs for that matter). The last time I brought my puppy she came home with soap dried up on her coat and dandruff everywhere!! The lady was not friendly at all and it is particularly annoying that everytime i go she requests her vet records...cant they keep that in the system?? Or maybe she just "forgets" to enter the info? I dont know but i wont blame the other fantastic employees who work there just because of this one grumpy lady who pretty much told me she couldnt handle my rescue dog who clearly has been traumatized by being around people like her...dogs can sense this kind of stuff ;-) read more

We had an appt that we had made for our cats almost three weeks ago! They called at 7am to let us know we have to reschedule because their cat groomer is out! Not our problem! Very unprofessional ! You get what you pay for. As far as selection and prices go they're pretty good. Usually cheaper than competitors, but the quality of their staff and services is downright horrible. We've brought our dog there 3 times for grooming and nail clipping. The first time we brought him everything seemed to go fine. Little did we know, they screwed up on the data entry side of things. They entered the wrong date in his rabies vaccination and I didn't think I needed to bring all of his paperwork with me since they'd already had him on file so they wouldn't accept him. We straightened it out with the vet and had them clarify with us which date was the actual date on the cert to give them. This was apparently not good enough for their very unpleasant, lame-brained associate due to the way it is worded on our cert. After much deliberating with them, they agreed to accept him to trim his nails. We're not sure what it was about them but apparently they'd stressed him out so much that he was being uncooperative and they then declined to clip his nails. We've had him @ two different places for nail clipping and he has been just fine both of those times and is a very well-behaved dog in general. We will not be giving PetSmart any more business. Way too many other places to go than to put up with their inability to do their jobs properly and to then be rude about it to you to boot. Not worth the $2-$4 in savings to go there. read more

I have 4 small toy poodles who were in for a beyond needed grooming. I can do myself but a professional was needed as they were over grown and somewhat matted. I told them I DID NOT WANT THEM SHAVED DOWN, PLESAE DO THE BEST YOU CAN BUT DO NOT SHAVE DOWN. I picked them up and they were all shaved completely down. One even had a bald spot aboved his ear. One is 13 blind and has cushing and I told them not to shave hm down as cushings disease slows hair growth. They look absolutely horrible. Some of it was necessary but not to the degree they shaved them to. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM TO ANY ONE. read more

I usually bring my dog in to get groomed in the grooming salon at Petsmart in Salem, NH. Last month I made an appointment for him to get the Top Dog package and when I picked him up he was acting very strange. My usually energetic and loving dog would not come near me and was shaking like crazy. I tried to let him work it out on his own thinking he was angry at me for leaving him at the groomers or that maybe he had encountered a loud dog and was shaken up for some reason. After a week, however, I took my dog to the vet and to my surprise both of his ears had been cut open on the tips, slicing them down the top so that the skin on either side did not meet. I had not noticed it because of all of his hair. When I attempted to contact the grooming manager, Jane, about my experience she acted like I was wasting her time and kept asking why I hadn't called earlier and stating the the groomer, Sara, had written nothing in the notes about cutting my dog. Then she proceeded to ask me if my dog had matted hair when we brought him in. I explained that he didn't but even if he had that's no excuse for cutting him and not telling me about it. I did not receive and apology and her best offer to me was to "put it in the notes for the next time we brought him in," to which I explained that she need not worry because we wouldn't be back. I would not recommend bringing any animal to their grooming salon. I know grooming animals can be frustrating but if you don't have the patience for it, maybe another trade would be a better choice. read more
