I give no start to this behavior: I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel obligated to share my experience to help other pet owners. I boarded my beloved Black Russian Terrier, Mulan, at PetSmart PetsHotel believing she would be safe and well cared for. Mulan is a rescue who came from an abusive situation, and I have spent years rebuilding her trust in people. She is well-trained, socialized, obedient, and is an important member of my family. When I picked her up, I immediately knew something was wrong. She was not the same dog I had dropped off. Her behavior had changed, and as someone who knows my dog better than anyone, I knew she had experienced something that caused her distress. Watching her like that was heartbreaking. I contacted PetSmart to express my concerns and expected compassion, answers, and accountability. Instead, I was met with poor communication. Although a manager initially contacted me, my follow-up emails and messages went unanswered. I eventually had to file a complaint with Consumer Affairs because I felt my concerns were not being taken seriously. What disappointed me most was not just what happened during Mulan's stay, but how PetSmart handled the situation afterward. As pet owners, we place tremendous trust in boarding facilities. When something goes wrong, we deserve transparency, empathy, and a genuine effort to make things right. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. Because of this experience, I will never board Mulan at PetSmart again. In fact, I have since arranged for a private pet sitter because I no longer feel comfortable leaving her at a commercial boarding facility. No pet owner should have to worry whether their dog will return home emotionally changed. I hope PetSmart takes customer concerns more seriously in the future and improves both the quality of care provided to pets and the way they respond when customers report problems. The Petsmart in Broomall, PA is a disaster. Occasionally I have my dogs groomed there, knowing they cancel without contacting me, and miss hair matts behind my dogs'ears and underneath but I was desperate. Today was the worst . I had a 5 pm appt to discover the groomer did not show and sorry but someone was supposed to call you. Ok.. I can deal with that. What could I say! But then she said oh, I think you made the appt for tomorrow at 5. Nope. I .did .not. I said I couldn't have. So I left. In the car I looked at the my screen shot I took when scheduling and discovered they changed the appt without my knowledge leading me to believe I'm going insane. This has happened twice before and I did believe it was me. When I went back in to cancel tomorrow's appt, I showed the screenshot as was told the computer does that sometimes .. read more

The grooming there is great but I won't send my dog again. My puppy is only 7 months and this is now 2 times I've had him in the doggy day camp and the next night he's become sick. The first time I brought him in for 3 days one week in January dropping him off in the morning and picking him up in the evening each day. The following night he had uncontrollable diarrhea and vomiting. I took him to the vet and they confirmed he had Giardia and Cytosispora. He received antibiotics and then when he was eventually cleared I called to see if I can make a reservation to get him back in they told me that they required a letter from my vet clearing him that he could be in a day camp environment (most likely for liability purposes but I'll get to why that's important later). Almost a month later, I email them his lab results clearing him, but they still wanted a letter on letter head from my vet. Which I had to email over. I made new reservations and brought him in last Wednesday and Thursday. That Thursday when picking him up I hear another attendant tell another dog owner that his dog vomited in day camp that day and it likely wasn't a big deal. Friday night to Saturday morning my dog has a fever and stool starts getting soft again.. Saturday night to Sunday, my dog is vomiting and has uncontrollable mucusy diarrhea. He's now afraid to eat and drink anything. I called petsmart and told them about what's happening now for the second time and instead of addressing my concern the first thing that was mentioned to me was "Unfortunately we are not liable, when you signed the agreement...." (I know I signed a waiver, that's not why I'm calling). The lady on the phone was nice but instead of defending petsmart's liability, should have addressed why this is happening. She said she would talk to the others to see if they are cleaning properly but gave no resolution or plans to follow up on what I was reporting. She then went on to explain "this is just like daycare and sometimes we may not be a good fit for your dog" , and " sometimes dogs get stressed out and tend to vomit" (I am aware of this, he's been boarded overnight at another facility before and never had an issue). I then had to explain my dog has been boarded before at other facilities and this is NEVER been a problem.. I told her I usually use sitters and he gets plenty of time outside. But he's never repeatedly gotten sick from a day camp.. I told her he's been to other facilities but because this was local and the cost was good I wanted to bring here for the convenience. It's a shame because my dog actually really likes going to the petsmart day camp, he gets excited when he realizes we are driving there. But, if it's gonna have me taking him to vet every week and racking up unnecessary bills then I can't for his health.. Grooming services are fantastic though. I'll still go to petsmart to purchase things and to get him groomed but for his care while I'm at work I will have to make other arrangements. read more

This was our first time using PetSmart Hotel and I will never be using them again. We boarded our 2 dogs and one dog came back with kennel cough (which is common and I wasn't too upset about) but my other dog came back with huge welts on his backside and we were never informed during their stay or when we picked them up. I called the same day/as soon as I noticed it and the rep on the phone said there was nothing in his records but would have a manager call me back. That was a Friday 8/16 and now 7 days later (Friday 8/23) I have yet to receive a phone call from a manager. We have took our dog to the vet, who determined it was infected and he needed to be put on antibiotics. We have boarded our dogs for years now and I do understand issues can arise that are out of anyone's control but the fact that they never recorded the incident and never called me back speaks volumes of their concern to their customers. This is my third time using PETSMART'S grooming and while I like the groomers' cutting skills. I don't like the tactics. 1st time my dog got cut I was very pleased! The second time April 2024, I dropped my dog and mind you she's a small poodle weighing 15 pounds. Appt was 1:30pm and I got her back after 6 pm! ok steaming but I am thinking, they must have overbooked. Groomer Nicole told me they were a little busy. Well, I don't want my dog locked in a cage all that time! She can be home until you are ready to bathe and cut her and when you are ready I can drop her! This time 6/21 I received a dog special care fee of 10.00 and was told that this fee is because she (NICOLE) needed another groomer to hold my dog because she barked at other dogs and people every time someone came in. the room. Well if I was a dog that had an appt at 1:30 and it's now after 5 and I am just getting cut and bathed after been locked the hell up I would damn near bark too. Um isn't this what dogs do? I don't care about paying the fee, if that's their policy, but i think this should be told to customers beforehand. I was given the receipt with no explanation. This place is a great free zoo. They have fish. Thy have a animal haircut station. You can sometimes see animal surgery through the window. Birds. Cats in cages. Crickets jumping around. They have a dog day care where workers shoot them with squirt bottles. The pet lesson was boring because they're trying to teach the animals how to sit. The staff here has turned my dog away for grooming on 3 occasions. Twice for being 5-10 minutes late to the drop off time. One of those times I was waiting in the lobby for 15 minutes while they handled another customer. Most recently because we had our dogs bordetella vaccine administered the same day. I was originally cited by staff that it was because there could be irritation around the injection site which I understood. Once I got home my wife informed me that it was actually nasal drops and not a shot. I call back to see if I could bring her back and was given a different reasoning as to why she couldn't be groomed today. I can't find anything online regarding this "policy". I used to use the pet hotel almost twice every summer for the last four years I recently took my dog for a four night stay and when I picked him up he was FRANTIC !! 2 days later he is still hoarse. I asked them not to give him doggy daycare all day , because he already has anxiety . they did not listen to a word I said , he would always be a little scary when I came to pick him up but this time was extremely unusual . he could not stop shaking and again he still hoarse From the constant barking which is why I don't like him to do they all day camp . I can tell it was just a terrible experience for him he's going to vet for a check up to make He's OK ! I paid for suite . $228 dollars for the 4 nights $3 per day for his medication . I asked them how did they get him to take the meds , she said he didn't I want to take it , so they pretty much had to shove it down his throat .. and I'm like OK for $228 you guys have never heard of a pill pocket ?! and he put them in doggy day camp after I asked them not to , because it freaks him out ! I had to change my dog groomer because he was getting scared and refused to be groomed. I been taking him to that groomer since he was a puppy so I'm not sure what happened. I took him to 2 different groomers and he couldn't get groomed because he was scared so finally I tried pet smart grooming and Deanna was so understanding when I was telling her what was going on him. And even though he matted at this point she was able to groom him. I'm so grateful for her. She was so nice and sweet and she took care of my dog. read more

Took my yorkie for his 10 year wellness check up... had to do a drop off and was sort of nervous, but the staff was very reassuring and the woman that answers the phone is so sweet!! My dogs peed all over the store, ( maybe pooped also, lol)and I felt horrible about that but I cleaned it right up, and the staff was joking with me, instead of being judgemental. We have been taking a large frisky puppy to Willow Grove's Petsmart for training. Lauara is the trainer. She is doing an excellent job of working with owners to train theiir dogs to want to follow commands and to pay attention to their person, initially for treats and eventually to just do what their person wants as its own reward. From my observation, the dogs seem more trainable than their people and it is very easy to spot those who work with their dog and those who don't. Laura is patient with everyone and has a very real understanding of what makes a dog tick. It was amazing to see the vast improvement in dogs and their owners in the beginers class. In the intermediate class where more is expected of the dogs and their owners, progress is a bit more spotty, but there is still progress. When Laura uses one of the dogs in the class to demonstrate a lesson, she ususally succeeds. She shows patience with the dogs and encourages their owners to work with the dog, to not get upset, to use and to think of treats as a reward for progress, not a bribe for cooperation, She encourages everyone to be positive and proud of their dogs. She recognizes that the owners are the key to training and tries to make it a positive expereince for them too. read more

We had an 8am grooming appointment today with Felicia. at 8:05, there was still no one at the pet salon and the lights were dark. A girl came to open the salon around 8:10am, and said that Felicia was going to be late as she was dropping off her son. We asked how late she was going to be and they could not provide us an answer but offered to just check us in and have our dog wait in the kennel for an unknown amount of time. Took our dog here for a PetHotel stay while we went on vacation. First, we got a call after a few days that the dog was not enjoying the doggie daycare and that we should consider signing her up for individual playtime (for additional $$). Later, got a call to say that (despite having all the right vaccinations) they think our pup has caught kennel cough and need to take her to their in-house vet. Third call was to say the vet started her on a regiment of antibiotics for kennel cough. When we arrived to pick her up, they wanted us to pay for the treatment. We expressed that it was ridiculous that we would pay for medical costs for something the dog caught while in their care -- only made more ridiculous by the fact that the vet never diagnosed the dog. Just gave her antibiotics in case she had it. So from our perspective... no proof she was ever sick. Eventually, after complaining, they removed it from the bill. But... this was Saturday. The dog was 5 days into a 10 day antibiotic regiment and you're not supposed to miss a day. They told us they were "out" of the antibiotic right now so couldn't give us more than that evening's dose (even if we had paid) and recommended we get some from our vet. Of course, this was Saturday afternoon already and our vet is not open on Sunday. They had to get in touch with someone from the Banfield hospital who wasn't on duty at the time and get a prescription faxed to our local CVS to pick up. And yep, that one we did end up paying for. Overall, this experience was hard on the wallet, hard on our pet's health, and not at all close to the seamless and convenient experience we've had with other doggie day cares (like Philly Dog School) or boarding stays. Will definitely not be coming back. read more

Tried ordering pet prescriptions online. My vet did not get the Petco fax to validate , so she spent 35 minutes on hold trying to validate the prescriptions. Gave up. I spent 45 minutes mostly on hold on the phone. No help. Gave them everything they asked for. No meds yet. The prescriptions go to another company. I sent them emails with scanned copies of the prescriptions. The prescription company sent an email asking for the same information I had already supplied. Very frustrating. read more

Utilized this locations pet hotel to board my dog for a week. When we picked him up we were told he was fine and the stay went well with no issues. When we got him in the car we noticed dried blood and cuts on his neck. We also immediately noticed that he had kennel cough which we were also not informed about. No one could tell us what happened to our dog during his stay to cause the neck cuts nor could they tell us how long he has kennel cough. They told us no one on the staff noticed either issues. Came in on my way to work, the doors were open yet there are no cashiers to be found. I waited for almost 10 minutes. A gentle man came in behind me, went and found someone working in their hotel who said they would come to help us. It had to be another 5 minutes before we walked over and got service. A "groomer" named Jessica at this store butchered my beautiful long-haired dachshund's hair. She cut all of his plumes and curls and fringes until he was basically a short-haired dachshund. She clearly never learned about cutting different breeds in different ways. Even worse, she could not follow clear instructions about how to groom the specific dog she had in front of her. I'm heartbroken that my dog had this experience as I'm sure he picked up on her careless attitude. This review is specifically for the dog training classes. Alina the trainer here is amazing. This woman is passionate about animals and takes great strides to be a professional resource. She even trains support dogs. She has helped us bring our stubborn and shy Yorkshire terrier out of her shell and over come behavior problems. I was skeptical at first as I had trained our pup to do the standard, sit, lay down, etc... But these classes ,specifically due to the trainer's approach, have helped us recognize our behavior and reactions to the dogs behavior. I cannot say enough great things! Completed beginner, intermediate and now in advanced training. Well worth the money and time and we will keep going as our little pup loves the sessions each week. read more

We boarded our Chihuahua at the PetSmart PetsHotel in Willow Grove PA for a few days while we went away. I was apprehensive about leaving him there even though the PetsHotel was recommended by my coworker since our dog had never been away from us for more than several hours. Our dog was very well taken care of during his stay. He ate all of his food each day, which is sometimes doesn't do for us at home. Bonnie gave him extra attention since it was his first time there and she has Chihuahuas of her own. I called to check on our dog and they gave me the complete rundown of everything he did since being dropped off. After that we were able to relax and enjoy the rest of our vacation. Our little guy was just as excited to see us as we were to see him. I would definitely recommend the PetsHotel for anyone that needs to board their dog for several days. If your dog is not used to being away from you for long periods of time, I high suggest doing a full day or half day of doggie day camp to see how your dog will be away from you and around other dogs. Our dog looked good and smelled good when we picked him up and they followed all of our instructions to the letter. As far as chain pet stores go, this one is above par. It's clean, spacious, and the employees are helpful and friendly. Definitely better than the Jenkintown location. There are a lot of dogs there on a regular basis, but Sunday becomes "Sunday church" for dogs... pretty much everyone brings their dog here on Sunday for a meet-and-greet. I haven't used the groomer or boarding services because I prefer to go local. If my local store doesn't have an item, I know this place does..and my dog can make new friends! read more

This is our go-to pet store and we are loyal customers. We've done 4 levels of dog training with our rescue dog and she's evolved from a nervous, shaky dog into a confident companion. Our first trainer (Carol) has since left PetSmart and we miss her dearly but Evan is great too! If you take a class there, be sure to ask for him. We've never used the PetHotel for overnight boarding but we have used it for Doggie Daycamp as it's the only place that has long extended hours. Really, the only reason I see for someone to use doggie daycare is when you will be gone for long hours one day and can't let the dog out. The long hours are great for this purpose. They offer a wide variety of pet food which is great if you're looking for hard to find brands. As our dog has food allergies this has become where we buy food regularly. read more

Took the puppy along on a road trip down to Philly -- but what to do with him once I'm there? Take him to Petsmart, of course! Not all Petsmart Doggy Day camps are made the same for sure -- employees are super happy at one vs. grumpy at another -- and I was pleasantly surprised by the staff at this location. Check in was prompt and easy (I called the day before to have my local Petsmart call this one to verbally verify vaccination expiration dates), and check out was great -- I was even updated with how many times he peed and pooed while they had him (definitely going beyond expected service). They sprayed him with some dog cologne so he smelled fresh when I got him back, and he fell asleep within minutes of driving off. Couldn't ask for more! read more

I haven't had any experience with groomers at this location, but compared to the Montgomeryville store, it's worlds better as far as cleanliness and pleasantness. I had two associates offer me assistance while I was browsing and found another who was able to point me in the direction of something I was looking for. I purchased a treat ball from the new Toys'R'Us line and was pleased to find it on sale at about five dollars off. Unfortunately, I don't know how that line is going to hold up -- our dog had ripped a hole in the toy within two hours of receiving it. Overall, the store itself is well lit and things are where you expect them to be. It's still fairly smelly in there, but not as bad as the Montgomeryville store. I don't know if it's the dogs coming in and out or the food, but my local non-chain pet store is much more pleasant in that area. They also didn't have one of the items I was looking for -- not so great for a store so large. I might come back to this store to find some more toys for our dog as they do have a great, well organized selection, but I would still use the local Cutter's Mill as my primary pet supplies store. read more

The staff is very knowledgeable about the products they sell. I had a question about the easy to digest dog food I get for my dog. The flavor she likes seems to be missing from the shelves. I really wish there were more stars for this place. I have a year old APBT rescue. He LOVES the staff at this Doggie Daycare and Pet Hotel. I have never been more pleased with this location. When we walk into the hotel, EVERYONE knows who my pup is. He is comfortable here with this staff and it shows that they love him. When I bring him there, i know he is well taken care of and loved. The staff which consists of so many people like Ellie, Lisa, Shannon and Dave and SO MANY MORE! I recently moved to Philly and this location is an hour away from where i live and work, however, i have tried to take him to other locations, and his end of day report was no where near where it was for Willow Grove's location. I will make the 2 hour round trip just to know that my pup is well taken care of and loved. I absolutely believe that this staff deserves more than a high five and a job well done. They truly love what they do and it shows everyday. read more
