Helpful, Friendly, Clean and Beautiful!!
A friend and I took 6 days to fully explore the entire trail and surrounding towns around the Pine Creek Rail Trail. During our time on the trail, we enjoyed a two night stay at Pettecoat Junction Campground.
First, let me start by saying we had spent all day on the trail in the pouring rain and were immediately greeted and checked in by our hosts Jill and Doug. They were warm, accommodating and very helpful. Because of the rain, we opted to stay in the CEDAR "glamping" tent. These tents are beautiful, well kept, affordable and very clean. It's very apparent that a lot of time was spent implementing decor, function and certainly form. There was electricity, a coffee maker, heater, comfortable bed and lamps in the room. I don't recall seeing a fan of any type (for warmer weather), but we didn't need one anyway. No love lost there.
Having only bicycles and our attached panniers made our stay a bit more difficult (we're used to this), so the items that we needed were readily available by the General Store at the head of the property. I even bought a sticker and a shirt to remember our stay.
Although there is free camping along the trail, this was clearly the better option. Jill and Doug are absolutely "cyclist-friendly" and helped us whenever we needed it. The firewood was plentiful and very affordable - even delivered to our tent.
The restrooms were very clean and modern. I'd like to take a tenth of a point away for having coin-op showers, but I refuse to give this campground anything less than a 100% satisfaction review. If I had to think about it, It's the only thing I would remotely consider a negative. Even still, who cares? Couple of quarters, and you're good to go.
The campground was quiet and peaceful. There were a few other guests (it's out of season) around the campground, including a friendly fly fisherman with whom we spent a bit of time with. We're now friends.
I also had asked Doug to borrow bolt cutters to trim the fender stays on my bicycle and he was glad to have helped. Thank you for that!
There are a few ideas I'd like to pass on to the owners, namely: a bike-wash station and a readily available bicycle floor pump that accommodates both types of valves). Other than that, it's very cyclist-friendly. They probably would have helped in both situations, but we didn't ask. Again, just ideas for the owners.
In summary, if you're planning a trip on the trail for cycling, kayaking the river, fishing, hiking or nothing at all, take my word for it - this wonderful oasis is a must-see. Plenty of options to choose from and very helpful staff.
