M.Lovewell is an independent stationery store located in Downtown Santa Ana near 4th Street Market and the shop hosts various creative workshops. This flagship brick-and-mortar location first opened in 2016 and M.Lovewell used to have a mini location inside Contra Coffee + Tea in Old Towne Orange (now closed). At the end of each July, the store offers Anniversary Weekend sales with an additional 20% off most items. [Parking]: There is a parking structure across the street for 4th Street Market. I had no issue finding free street parking in this part of town on Sunday afternoon. [Selection]: There was a tote-making station for a $25 DIY tote (choose a tote color and one patch, tell the staff where you want it, and the staff will iron it on for you) and Build a Washi Tin for $44 (limited-edition 10-year washi tin and choose eight washi tapes to fit inside the tin). I was quite impressed with the cute stationery selection including planners, pens (Tombow ABT PRO Alcohol Markers + Zebra's MILDLINER) from brands like Sarasa, Penco, Zebra, Mono, and Uni-ball, writing paper (MD Paper), cases and pouches from The Superior Labor, greeting cards, stickers, stamps, watercolor boards, Toyo toolboxes, etc. They even offer really fancy pens from brands like OHTO as well as $200+ fountain pens and inks for fountain pens. They have tester pens for customers to try out. On their website, customers can preorder The Hobonichi Techo for new releases for the upcoming year. [Conclusion]: Overall this shop focuses more on Japanese stationery brands (they do not sell MUJI here) and personally this is one of the best pure stationery shops in Orange County. I like this store much better than places like Shorthand, Baum-kuchen, or The Social Type in Los Angeles. read more

CUTE INDEPENDENT SHOP (4 stats) There isn't much happening in downtown Santa Ana but there are a few hidden gems. Did I overhear that this place has been open for ~10 years?! I stumbled upon this shop while walking around the small downtown and as I walked more east I questioned should I turn around? Right when I was able to this store popped in view and I had to go in! What a cute shop if you are into stationary and pens and etc. I love supporting small independent businesses so I was determined to leave with something. There were a collective of independent products from different companies/artists that sell their items here. I didn't expect to leave spending $70.05 on 5 tiny items. WAX SEAL ($20) - by Made of Honour. There weee a handful of styles available. Very nice packaging. SEALING WAX BEADS 100pc ($9) - by Fiona Ariva. Variety of stunning colors. WAX SEAL HANDLE ($9) - by Fiona Ariva. I believe this is the standard size that fits other brands. BOAT PEN CASE ($13) - by Luddite. I been looking for a small compact pen case for my very few ones that i own and this was what I was looking for. ANTERIQUE BALLPOINT PEN ($13) - I love this mini pen and how it writes. The store DOES sell anterique refills BUT not the mini anterique refills that is needed for this pen. You can order the refills online on Amazon. So here's what gets me about shopping here. - California State Tax (0.5%) - Orange County Tax (0.25%) - Santa Ana City Tax (15%) - Orange County District Tax SP (0:5%) - Orange County Tax SL (1%) ^^ Added an additional $5.95 to the initial subtotal. Stopped by M.Lovewell yesterday for their first day opening since their store refresh! There are so many new items and artists that have been added to the store which was nice to see! I love coming by here to look at their selection of fountain pens, inks, journaling supplies, and especially stamps! I hope they continue to add more varieties of washi tapes and stamps to their store as it's my new current obsession! Their prices are always reasonable and their workers are always super friendly. I love chatting with them whenever I visit :) Also love that they host fun learning workshop classes and events! Definitely check out their website for upcoming scheduled events if you're interested. After a great meal, we headed to the spot my wife came here for. Staff opened the door for us and greeted us both. The place was already hopping and people were enjoying their Saturday shopping . Place had a very bay vibe to it, I could totally see it in San Francisco next to the wharf. It wasn't too big but they used as much of the sales floor with their items. There was a back section for staff and looks like staging or possibly where they hold classes or events maybe?. Anyway, I picked up an MD notebook and cover for a decent price and my wife picked up what she came for but most likely will need to come back because she's waiting for a certain planners. The staff that were there, were all super nice and attentive. Overall all chill experience even though I had to step out because there was just too many people at one point. read more

Came here for the first time in a weekday and it wasn't too busy just a few people in the store. I see that half of the store is for workshops they have in the back and in the front of the store are the stationary. Their push looks more for fancy fountain pen lovers and ink for them. There's also regular pens, mechanical pencils, erasers, notebooks, greeting cards, notepads, a small area on the counter for washi tape for a good price. There's street parking that you need to pay for (street meters) since it's downtown. I was too excited to look I forgot to take an interior photo lol. read more

I had been incredibly excited to visit this stationery store, since I heard good things about the place. If one is looking for fountain pens, all kinds of different pens, journals, pencil pouches, and greeting cards, this would be the spot to check out. However, I felt that the store didn't have as much cute vinyl stickers, washi tapes, or cute journaling stickers in general for someone who loves those things like me. I did feel that overall, the prices were fair. Parking can be challenging, given the area is in downtown Santa Ana. The shop is also smaller than i had expected. This stationary store has a wonderful selection of Hobonichis! I've been trying to get my friends to journal with me but they said it was too time consuming. There's a nice stamp collection here too. I wish they had more stickers. There are a few sticker sheets near the register but not many. A huge variety of ink selections though. They had so many different ink colors I couldn't choose! The back of the store is filled with tables. I think they haven't events back there. read more

I stopped by to browse their goodies, not looking to purchase anything in particular. I ended up snagging two cards: one for a baby shower and another for my best friend's birthday. I love finding cards that specifically fit a loved-one's personality. I like to believe this small touch is a reminder that they're always on my mind. This is the second time I've come to this spot and had a great experience. This shop is great because they have a good selection of fountain pens, including inks, which are always better to see and try in person. They have an extensive amount of inks available. They have a lot of stationary as well and I think even an area for classes. Overall there aren't too many places to get your fountain pen/stationary fix in Orange County, but this place is great. Made a special trip just to look around. Drove from San Diego to see the excellent selection of stationery and it didn't disappoint! I had seen a tik tok of the store and immediately started following on Instagram! I got there a little early so went to the other location first. Just an FYI, the other one is inside a coffee shop. That was a little bonus. So an hour later, made it to this shop. The staff was incredibly nice and patient. I first looked at everything...twice. Then finally decided to ask about getting my first fountain pen. She showed me the selections and described them all. After settling on which one caught my eye, she asked about what I would write on, Hobonichi cousin, narrowed down nib size and had me try out a few. Then she let me choose a color for ink. This location was the last on my Stationary Store Day crawl. BTW the $30.00 Mystery bag (I believe) was a part of the International Stationary Store Day promo... I guess I didn't spend a lot of money as they charged me for a bag to place my stuff in... after I told them I would be sharing the photos on Social Media and wanted the bag for the purpose of promoting their shop - but I guess Mehhhh (typed with hunched shoulders). Cute shop located in downtown Santa Ana, metered street parking available but there is also a covered garage located behind. Plenty of beautiful fountain pens, markers, colored pencils, greeting cards, travel journals, limited array of Washi Tape but they have a nifty Washi Tape book that has strips of the prints for you to see. Nice ink pads for your stamps and they sell @ilootpaperie items in the store which is a HUGE Yea for me as I order a lot from them on Etsy. Note to other gift shops... carry Etsy artisan items it's an instant win-win for your Customer, the artisan and your shop! Oh and also the vintage paper clamps for your journal and E. I Stopped by during their holiday sale, and it was totally worth it! If you're in OC, you can skip the packed stationery stores and avoid the drive to LA. I finally got my hands on a Hobonichi--my favorite planner. It's a little pricey, but I went for the 5-year one, hoping it keeps me grounded and helps me see how far I've come. Life isn't easy and challenging for everyone, but having something to track my journey might make the present feel a little more meaningful. They also have the cutest cards, notebooks, pens, pencils, and fountain pens, with a great mix of Japanese and European brands. If you're into stationery, definitely check this place out! What a find! This stationery store is reminiscent of one I visited in San Francisco where I felt like I had stepped into a space specifically for lovers of quality stationery. I've been looking for Japanese-style notebooks with ultra-smooth pages, and they had them in spades, along with quality writing instruments, planners, travel notebooks, and other cute writing accessories. This is one of the few destination shops in the Orange County or LA area. My wife has been raving about M.Lovewell for so long, and I was really excited to finally have the opportunity to check out this cute little shop located in DTSA. Not too busy on a Friday morning right at opening, but that just meant more space to walk around and explore! M.Lovewell is pretty well-stocked with different planners and paper products, including stationary and cards. They've also got some washi and other writing accessories. But what I was there to look at were their fountain pens. I love fountain pens and it's rare to find a shop that has a decent collection. Although I didn't end up buying a pen, I did appreciate the selection of Pilot Custom 74s as well as the TWSBI 580s. I was looking for a clear demonstrator pen, and it was great to be able to see the barrels up close. Prices were on par with what I would find through online retailers, but without the shipping cost! More on pens - they have a great selection of pens (not just fountain pens) and also carry converters, some nibs, and other accessories. I did end up getting a Hunt 101 nib for my oblique pen and so far it's performing great! They also hold several workshops and are participating in Fountain Pen Day! Such an adorable stationery store! They have a solid selection of greeting cards with cute drawings, clever quips, and beautiful art. They carry a lot of my favorite supplies including Muji pens (which are super rare to come by after they closed all their US locations) and Midori goodies! From stickers to washi tape to planners, calendars, and pouches, M Lovewell has it all. Definitely had a hard time resisting the urge to take everything home with me! Drove all the way down to Santa Ana to take a class here from Robert Manar - Embroidery Workshop Summer Road Trip Edition. It was kinda spendy at $95 for this frugal girl. But I knew it would be informative and great to meet Robert who was a contestant on the crafty reality show Making It. It was fabulous! I love maps and crafts and had embroidered long ago. The kit came with a large fabric map of the USA and we embroidered on it with instruction and ideas from Robert. Thanks to M. Lovewell for hosting a great class! The shop actually has lots of nice stationary items for sale. I was tempted by all the Korean flower stickers but wanted to buy them all. AND we found free parking a block and a half away. read more

This review is long overdue. What a wonderful gem of a store. It is AAPI woman owned. This place tickles all of my stationary fantasies. It is located in Downtown Santa Ana. I was lucky to be able to take a Intro to Modern Embroidery with Nutmeg & Honeybee. Meg Rosko is extremely passionate and a wonderful teacher! The class takes place in the spacious room in the back of the store. The class provided delicious nibbles and refreshments. All the supplies were provided for the class. You are able to take all the supplies to finish your project back home. It was refreshing to learn something new. read more

Went for the first time on Tuesday after finding this place online while looking for Hobonichi items. It's such a cute store with a lot of cute stationary supplies. I first went to the location in Orange (which is a pop up shop behind a coffee shop), then this one in Santa Ana. Some of the items they sell are Travelers Journals/supplies, Midori notebooks, Hobonichi Techo covers/planners/accessories, various pens, fountain pens and inks, stickers, washi tape, cards, and stamps. I ended up buying a Platinum fountain pen with converter, a Uni Ball One P Gel Pen, mood stickers, a tin for my pen nibs, Midori stamp paper, and a small BGM border washi tape. Will definitely come here again and maybe make an online order soon. They also have classes in the back of the store. I constantly check to see what's available as they fill up fast! read more

Recently getting into the super-popular Hobonichi Techo lineup, I was looking for a stationary store that carried it to check out all the planners in person. Instead of having to drive up all the way to LA County, I was luckily able to find it at M. Lovewell, one of the few stores down here that have it! Stepping inside, this is a journaler's paradise. From the cutest stickers, cards, planners, and knick-knacks to the most beautiful array of pens and inks, this store is small, but you can easily spend a lot of time (and money) browsing everything they have to offer. I ended up getting the Hobonichi Weeks, a clear cover for it, and a Unipin pen, which was recommended by one of the employees to use on the Hobonichi's famously thin pages. I'm super happy with my purchase and would absolutely recommend anyone interested in crafts/journaling to check this place out! read more

This place is super super cute. I've come 3 times and spent over $70 each time... It's dangerous for a girl who loves stationery! They have cute plants, pens, pencils, notebooks, cards, tape, calendars, Stickers... all so cute! I mean I know the location is central and the products are quality but I would suggest a bit of a discount or a sale once in a while! I've been looking for a stationary store that is closer than downtown LA and am so glad I found this gem. They have two locations and another reviewer shared that this location was a bigger store front. We went on a Friday afternoon and were able to get free parking in the structure right past the store (entrance to structure was a bit hard to see due to constructions). I don't know how long the free parking is for as I needed to leave so I didn't spend more money! The store itself was clean and had lots of planners, stationary products, washi tapes galore, stickers, fountain pen inks, etc. Lots of cute things you never knew you needed for your Hobonichi lol. The employees were nice. There also seems to be a large space for different workshops you can sign up for. Definitely will return again to get my stationary fix! read more

I attended a paper flower workshop on a Saturday morning with Sarah Kim. The class was approximately two hours. I highly recommend going to a workshop with a group of friends because it is a good bonding experience. The instructions were easy to follow. I like that we did not have to bring anything extra. All the materials are included in the price. Drinks and snacks were provided as well. The shop is super cute and sells little knick knacks. It is a big on the pricier side though. Parking was not free, unfortunately. There is a parking structure next to it that costs 5 dollars. In summary, this is a great place to attend workshops, but they are unfortunately quite pricey. read more

During the COVID19 quarantine I decided to try some fun projects but needed more art supplies so immediately thought of supporting such a cute store in the community. Their online ordering process was seamless, and they contacted me shortly after I placed the order to arrange for pick up. This is one of my favorite stores in OC. It's so tranquil and is filled with all the stationary you could need. They have a cute card section and sell pottery too. This is my first taking a class here. I did the Paper Succulent making on a Saturday afternoon with Sarah Kim. The class lasted about two hours and they provide some snacks (cream pan croissant) and drinks which is nice. The environment was very hipster and super Instagram worthy in every corner of that store! It is a great way to relax, make new friends and learn something new. I really enjoy my class and hopping to take more later. The only thing that was kind of stopping me from wanting to take more class is def the price. I really do enjoy the class but don't think I can afford going to that many classes for sure. read more
