It was clear that he didn't have good enough relationships with suppliers, which is fine - he was just starting out and we wanted to support a small, new business. I should have known something was off with him when he asked for $20 more dollars than he originally quoted me for the job and said it was because it took him so much effort to get the part. How is that the customer's fault exactly? Anyway, we liked him, he was communicative, and I even sent him my aunt's way and encouraged my local hardware store to refer him to customers (when I had called the hardware store, they didn't have his information). Cut to this week where things with Rush got REALLY bad. I had been contacting him for FOUR MONTHS about getting a second opinion on something wrong with my fridge. No response. He visited my aunt's place and she informed him of what a dick he was being and upset I was that he had just ignored my messages to him about my fridge for so long. So he texts me and says he guarantees he and his guy will be at my place within 2 weeks. I reply thanks and let him know which date(s) work best for me. No response for one week. Then he sends me a stinky message today saying he's not authorized to do HVAC work in my building (why could not have known this months ago is beyond me) and that he's not willing to get his guys "shut down" because of it (as if I would have forced him to do something he's not authorized to do?), and that I "am going to have to find someone who can work around your schedule." Uhhhh...shouldn't all customer-oriented businesses work with my schedule? And isn't that what I was trying to do by letting him know which days in the next 2 weeks worked well for me? Total A-hole. Not to mention he trash talked my aunt! Totally unprofessional for someone to discuss other clients negatively, but especially when I KNOW her, come on! And what exactly did my aunt have to do with him ignoring me for months? Nothing. Not worth getting in to in detailed fashion, but things escalated from there with him being extremely rude and self-righteous. I also come to learn that he'd been harassing my aunt to get a response from her condo board and then was pissy toward her when he learned the board hadn't approved him. He also claimed that he did me a "favor" by only charging me an extra $20 for the bathroom work he did for me and said he had "already" given his business card to every hardware store in NW...he's basically an ungrateful, self-righteous, unprofessional guy. Though Rush claims to not "need" Yelp for business, I sincerely hope you readers use this Yelp review to not give him a chance. We gave him a chance and tried to support his business, and we totally regret it.

I initially hired Derek to install an over the range microwave for me. Due to unforseen circumstances (i.e. my negligence in properly measuring the microwave before I bought it & shoddy electrical work at my house) this turned into a two day affair. Derek was extremely flexible and able to find solutions. I am super pleased with the end result. I now have a new cabinet over my range (which Derek managed to match perfectly to the 30 yr old cabinets in my house), a cabinet over my fridge (which I wanted to do eventually anyway), a microwave over my range, and proper/safe wiring to the outlet over the range. All of this was done for a very reasonable price. No sticker shock at all even though the scope of the job changed fairly dramatically, and I feel the work done was of high & reliable quality. Derek was friendly, communicative, flexible, and I won't hesitate to hire him for future jobs or refer friends & family to him!

Lazy work. We hired…read moreJose Arias of Bries to re-gravel our driveway and build a stone border around the adjacent flower bed. They cut corners in just about every way imaginable. We came home to discover they built the flower bed about 6 feet too short, ending in the middle of the parking space. But wasn't a misunderstanding; the flower bed already existed, and they were just putting a border around it. They literally ripped out two fully grown rose bushes and replanted them between our other shrubs to shrink the size of the flower bed and the amount of work they had to do. The roses are now dying. Meanwhile, the big project--regraveling the driveway--was barely done at all. They literally just washed the very sparse existing gravel and put it back down, with big patches of dirt. We complained, and Jose came back--and half-assed the job again. He put down a very small amount of new gravel--not nearly enough to cover the bare patches of the driveway--and extended the flower bed edging, but squared it off at the edge rather than follow the curve of the bed. The dying roses remained where they replanted them. Even after this second attempt, there are still weeds and still patches of bare gravel. It's clear Jose Arias is not going to do this job in any satisfactory manner. He already has my money but the least I can do is warn others not use this lazy, cut-corners, apathetic contractor.

Jose installed an ill-fitting toilet seat (even with the toilet brand given to him) and the chipped bathtub was painted in a color not matching the rest of the bathtub. In addition, Jose quoted extremely overpriced services as "deals" (other contractors quotes were far, far less). Jose also re-grouted the shower and stated it would not need to be grouted for at least another year. Four weeks later, Jose was contacted as the grout was starting to come off; however, Jose did not follow up to the messages. Due to this experience, I cannot recommend Jose Arias, and I would advise looking elsewhere for reliable and professional contractors who value customer satisfaction and stand by their work.
