At 3:30 in the afternoon a few weeks ago, I went to bring my trash cans into my utility room and it…read morewas flooded. The entire room was hot and humid and I couldn't figure out what was going on until I looked over and saw the boiler was leaking. Yikes! There was so much water coming out and I wasn't sure what to do or how to handle the situation and so I started googling and yelping and doing whatever I could to try to find somebody to get it solved that night even though it was late in the afternoon. The gentleman that came to fix our boiler had his truck breakdown on the way over and several complications and yet he still showed up to help us and fix the boiler. He didn't let the rain or the broken truck stop him and he showed up at 8:30pm and had everything solved by 1030 10:30 pm. at night and I'm sure he hadn't eaten dinner. Also he didn't charge us a crazy emergency fee because his truck broke down and he was very reasonably priced and it was pretty amazing he still showed up after everything he went through in a super big rainstorm and a broken truck. Man we were so thankful because the hotter it was just leaking like crazy and flooding our utility room . Thor Mechanical really came through for us in a big way!

I used Thor Mechanical a few years ago to add central A/C to my house, which was one of the smoothest transactions I have ever had when dealing with any contractor. The owner, George (Ted) Petrakis, was meticulous in helping select the correct A/C unit, based on various factors, that would not only be cost effective for that project, but lower my PG&E costs. He even did some minor tweaks on my current heating system at no extra charge. I have used Thor Mechanical on numerous HVAC projects over the last several years on various investment properties, and have never had a single negative experience. The reason I finally got around to writing this review is the because Ted went beyond the call of duty yesterday. I have a property that is a 2 hour drive away from him, which has a 80 year old, in floor furnace. This property is in escrow for sale, and I just found out that the furnace wasn't working, and the appraiser was coming out on Monday (today), and the sale was going to fall apart, if the furnace wasn't working. I called Ted on a Saturday, and he drove out on Sunday, fixed the furnace, and as the "cherry on top", he saw that my water heater wasn't strapped to the wall, according to CA building code, so he did that as well. His rate was very fair, considering my urgency and the distance he had to drive to complete the project. 5 Stars for Thor!

Never pay for anything and if you need parts buy them yourself and send them to your own address so that he doesn't get the parts cost and diagnostic cost on top of that. A very unfortunate experience but I learned a lesson.

Never will he pick up the phone when you call him unless you are a Home Warranty company, which he likely whitelists and kisses up to. I tested this by calling him and then immediately calling my Home Warranty company which called him. I did this a few times because he never provided any status updates. Guess which calls he picked up? My fridge was leaking and destroying my hardwood floors for over a month waiting on this guy to replace a small part that I doubt he ever actually even ordered. Every week I called the Home Warranty company, and he would tell them that the part would arrive next week. This went on for over a month until I gave up and took the cashout option. Of course, he relentlessly pursued compensation from that too, taking about $200 from my payout as expenses to return a small part.

STAY AWAY...FAR AWAY. If I could give them a 0 I would. Firstly, the tech that came out and…read morediagnosed our microwave combo as a bad magnetron. However, he did so without doing anything but turning on the microwave (without anything in it which is a known no-no) for less than 10 sec. HE DID ABSOLUTELY NO DIAGNOSTICS. He then told me he could have the replacement magnetron in a couple of days (no problem he stated). After a week I called them and spoke with the manager (at least she said she was the manager). Upon telling her of the delay she apologized profusely. I stated not calling me to inform of the delay was unacceptable and YES SHE AGREED. Then they finally sent out a 2nd tech who was very thorough and diagnosed a faulty control panel. He also said a couple of days to get the control panel. Another week passed and I again called the 'manager' who again apologized. THIS AFTER I REMINDED HER THAT SHE APOLOGIZED LAST WEEK FOR THE EXACT SAME THING WHICH WAS NOT INFORMING ME OF THE DELAY. In summary: 1. The first tech was totally incompetent. 2, The manager does nothing but answer the phone and apologizes (she has lots of practice I'm sure). Her goal seemed to be to get you off the phone . 3. They are higher than other repair companies (the previous control panel replacement was $380 while this was $522. 4. They placed no effort into correcting their inadequacies. THIS IS NOT A COMPANY TO DO BUSINESS WITH.
