However, my most recent visit has been frustrating. I dropped off a handgun at the end of November for three services and was quoted 6-8 weeks max. I had planned to attend a training in late February, so based on that timeline I expected to have my handgun back by the end of January. We are now approaching 15 weeks, and my firearm is still not ready. Can't even reschedule my class as the staff has been unable to give me a date each time I've called. I didn't want to leave a negative review because my previous experiences here have been great, but this delay is honestly unreasonable. If I would have known the turn around time I would have skipped on services. A friend of mine dropped off his handgun at a different shop for the same services and had it back within a month. I am paying full price for 2 of the 3 services so I might as well have just taken it to the other shop.. I would still consider purchasing items from this store, but unfortunately I will most likely not be returning here for gunsmithing services.

For them to go above and beyond on quality of product is more than expectations. If you need something done immediately, look at big distributors and websites for new slides and barrels and grips or whatever, but if you want something that you can trust to run over and over and over with precision and detail, DWS is where it is at. Unfortunately, that recommendation turned into a major regret. My coworker dropped off his firearm in October 2024, paid money up front, and since then has received nothing but excuse after excuse with no real answers about status or completion. Despite remaining extremely patient and understanding throughout the process, he has still been unable to get any meaningful communication. At one point, he even offered to completely walk away from the work and simply have his equipment returned, but that has not happened either. I'm writing this because I genuinely feel terrible for recommending this business in the first place. I personally am not financially affected, but my coworker is, and judging by the other reviews, he is clearly not alone in this experience. If this business is no longer operating properly, the right thing to do would be to be honest with customers, release a public apology, return people's property, and move forward. Accountability and communication would go a long way at this point.

I needed them to Cerakote the slide, cut a notch in my grip module for the safety fit, add a trigger, and switch the mag release from the left side to the right. The communication was awful--multiple times I was told different pick-up dates, and they kept pushing it back without any clear updates. On top of that, they lied about the status of my firearm. They told me it was basically done, just needed to be put back together. But when I came in, they were still working on cutting the grip--so it actually wasn't close to being done at all. The lack of transparency was really upsetting. However, I will say, the only reason I'm not giving this a one-star review is that the gun actually came out really well--the Cerakote was nice, and the cutting done to my grip was done very well.

Afterward, I took them up on their 'newbie' offer of free range time and rental after class. Kevin signed me up for a lane, let me rent a couple of handgun models I researched previously, and critiqued my targets, giving some general feedback and advice. He also pointed me toward a couple other models that are known to be more friendly to left-handed shooters that I can test out in the future. Great place; a little on the older and smaller sides, but staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and attentive. I get the feeling that as I 'shop around' for my go-to range there's a strong chance I will gravitate back here, since these guys are passionate about what they do, and seem to want to inspire that passion in others. As expected for a weekend, there was a wait, but since we were off for the day, we didn't mind hanging out on the folding chairs in the retail section for 30 minutes. The staff is awesome--super friendly and easy to talk to--and the check-in was painless. While waiting, I noticed their optics prices are actually lower than most other shops in OC. I'll definitely be back when I'm ready to pick up another Holosun. The only real downside is their range rule: you have to reload your magazines at the shooting stall, not the back table. Because the space is tight, I couldn't reload while my friend was shooting. We ended up spending half our time just loading mags, which really cut into our actual trigger time. It's a solid spot and less expensive than other local ranges, so I'd come back alone, but I'll probably skip the "buddy trips" here since the reload rule makes it hard for two people to get their money's worth.
