I've had the pleasure of dealing with both Paul and Josh. Josh is a true craftsman and professional. He takes the time to explain each step of the work on your firearm at the time of drop off. He is also very helpful and descriptive over the telephone. The first job I hired his services for was a Noveske upper build using a Geissele Mk14 rail and FN cold hammer forged barrel. Josh immediately recognized that the parts were milspec compliant and explained that the turn around time would be fairly quick. Upon pickup, the upper was assembled with the utmost care and quality. Josh even performed the crosscut for the "bullet proof" install of the Geissele low profile gas block. The second firearm Josh worked on was my old Beretta 92FS which had been upgraded with Wilson parts. Josh milled out the fixed front sight blade and installed a fiber optic bead for better FS pickup. He also installed a Wilson Combat u notch rear. As with his previous work, the quality and craftsmanship was outstanding. It feels comforting to know that there's highly skilled and knowledge gunsmith like Josh in North OC. Applied Kinetics is also a FFL which performs person to person firearms transfers. I get COVID but customer service is still a necessity and this place does not even respond to msgs. They were recommended by an NRA instructor. You would think they would at least respond. I have been going to Applied Kinetics for a few times now, and so far, I haven't been disappointed. Albeit, the work requests were the installation of handgun sights, they have been incredibly easy to work with, have a reasonable turn-around time, with a reasonable cost. There are a couple of gunsmiths closer to where I live, but upon reading the reviews (online sites, forums, etc.), I took a chance with them - been much satisfied. I guess it is now time to move forward from simple requests such as sights installation to something with more flair - Cerakote, race gun customizations, etc. (right now am just saving for a Glock 34 which will be the base of my race gun)! I happened to find Josh & Applied Kinetics via referral from a couple people. Let me tell you I'm glad I found this hidden gem for some work on my Noveske 5.56. I initially came in for installation on a Custom Port Cover and I ended up getting a really good price on a Lantac Dragon muzzle break, it was less than other places I had previously checked out. I dropped off late afternoon and was able to pick up the very next day, very convenient it's on my way to work. But most important Josh does great work at a very reasonable price. Found me a gunsmith! I couldn't budge the rear sight on my Shield to install the striker block from the Apex trigger kit. I also had had some FTFs in my previous shooting session and wasn't sure the striker was functioning properly. Josh got the rear sight off, installed my parts and inspected the striker action, about 15 minutes' worth of labor, while I waited. I pulled out my card to pay the bench fee and he waved me off, wouldn't even take a cash tip. That's some service and value. I also quick-scanned his small merchandise display and saw very competitive prices on some factory Glock magazines. Not what you'd expect from a small operation like this. I wouldn't be surprised if he has some other deals no one knows about, too. read more

Went here to ask if they can re-thread my busted lower reciever pistol grip screw hole, josh was very helpful explaining to me what happened and took care of my problem for just $20 same hour! When in wondering if my barrel cracked open from the shooting range the range master told me to stop shooting due to the bullet possibly exploding inside barrel and the bullet failing to eject and getting stuck inside he barrel. Came in and was greeted by josh explained everything to him, told me to leave the rifle (AK) the every next day the rifle was ready for pick up and nothing ready happen but was more of a magazine issue. The place is more gunsmith/fab work than gunshop so there wasn't much new stock on display, but there were lots of examples of custom work. Called in to get quoted on a barrel threading job done on my brand new Smith & Wesson M&P15 Sport II rifle with non-threaded barrel. Josh answered the call and was very courteous and helpful in regards to any questions I had. As for the barrel threading, the pics say it all.
