Wayne who has worked at REI ( different stores) for 17 years helped me find the right shoes. His recommendations were so different than AI but I found a shoe that has the arch support and stability . Wayne was incredibly helpful; I came in feeling lost while trying to choose new running shoes, especially as a beginner training for a marathon. Even though the shoes selection part was short staffed, he still took the time to walk me through the differences between options and helped me feel confident in my choice. We got my e-bike here & we have purchased helmets, clothing, hats, etc. The reason for 3 stars today is because we went for the "4th of July" but majoritynofnthrnclothing & shoes were not on sale. Husband was able to order a duffle bag at the store & they applied 30% off coupon for that item which they didnt have in store. The first employee we asked said he could not find it online so my husband looked it up online & asked they order for him so he can get the 30% off. That was a bit of a hassle as we had left the store, then thought we should look online ourselves, then had to return to the store to place the order, in order to get the 30% off. We went back as 30% was more than $30. My husband got another hat for hiking while there today. read more

This REI is my go-to for all things outdoors/adventure despite not being a member (currently). Joey helped most recently with planning some future camping trips. He knew the ideal camping spots to head to, the websites to check, proper safety measures, and had great insight on products like a propane-free stove and new ways to make cowboy coffee. In the middle of our Disneyland trip, my husband's HOKAs had a issue. Looking for nearby shoe stores, we decided to make the journey out to this REI location, about 30 miles away from Disney. This REI location is in Huntington Beach California. The store is open from the following hours Monday - Saturday: 10:00 A.M - 9:00 P.M Sunday: 10:00 A.M - 7:00 P.M The store does offer curbside pickup which is available until 15 minutes before closing time. This REI location has a wide range of camping, hiking gear, footwear, clothing, electronics and so much more! There is also a in store bike shop that offers tune-ups, repairs, diagnostic, flat repairs and so much more! My husband ended up trying out a few different shoe brands, but ended up buying a pair of Brooks sneakers! He liked how the shoes supported his feet. It was a different style than HOKA though! The team member at REI whom was assisting us was amazing! The team member was able to provide us with different shoe sizes and brand recommendations. Incredibly impressed with this store. My wife and I realized last minute that the backpack she had planned to take on our backpacking trip through Italy wouldn't work. We only had about 15 minutes to get in and out of the store with a backpack suitable and sized to her. It is an outdoor enthusiast's toy store. I could spend hours looking at cool products. I am picking up a new backpacking tent today and I'm super excited to try it on my next backpacking trip. The service is good but on a busy sale week or on the weekends, you may have to wait a little before you can talk to someone. You should do your product research on line to narrow down your search before going in. Generally, their stores have lots of parking spaces available out front. Items are pretty over priced. You can go to Dick's Sporting Goods across the street for some items better prices. Clerks are not too knowledgeable about their credit cards and how to determine the amount of credit on your account. The absolute worst is that they don't have bags available for your purchase so you're supposed to walk around Bella Terra with your stuff! Imagine walking around with clothes with tags and a shoe box! Absolutely ridiculous. And when you realize they don't even sell bags, the clerks look at you with a blank look on their faces. Don't even get me started on the online order for a hydro flask bottle that was supposed to arrive in a week and took over 1 month. I've had a REI credit card for over 20 years and their reward policy is horrible now. Finally going to close the credit card. I'm not surprised 3 REI stores will be closing. I'm not sure what happened to this store. They seem to have not been able to keep up with the times. Great customer service unlike at Dicks across the street. I felt like a tourist here bc I haven't been in here since my kids went to college, I quit skiing after injuring my knees. My daughter just did the 30 miles biking marathon n she wore the Pearl Izumi biking pants, she told me it was the ultimate design, it had padding so your butt don't hurt biking 30-40 miles. What I love about this design is how cool it looks and it's so comfortable plus it has 2 deep pockets on each side to store your iPhone n keys n glasses wo looking bulky. The $100 price is outrageous bc it's made in Vietnam, it got me very upset when I was in VN n was told they got paid nothing the folks are so poor all the savings fr moving factories to China n more saving moving to VN now are pocketed by big business not passed to consumers. Be Careful when picking up in store orders. They might try to resell used jackets at full price and are not helpful or understanding when exchanging. The $300 jacket I picked up from the store had the tag used & bent, pieces of thread coming off, with receipts in the pocket from previous orders!!?? Super sloppy service. Very poor customer service. I do love this store if just to wander aimlessly and just look around. For those not familiar with them, it's an outdoor store with higher end gear and clothes. Great for camping items you wouldn't think of with emphasis on luxury comfort as well as practicality. Be sure to check clearance racks of clothes as you can find some great deals sometimes if you hunt. They have dressing room as well and a nice variety of outdoor shoes. When you checkout you'll see local stickers for cars and other unique items so take a look. Always seem to have pretty of cashiers available so even when it's crowded, lines move quick. read more

I habe been a paid member/ customer for 21+ years and have spent over 30K Dollars on gear here i wish I could return it all now not just my failed Yakima Roof box. The Brand is dying and it's because of leadership like her. I went to the top and haven't heard back so the social media campaign is just starting. I will not be happy until REI is out of business now. I was treated so poorly by this women and then no response from up management a week later. Yakima has made it right by their life time warranty but no thanks to REI. The 1year customer 100% satisfaction guarantee is complete bull shit. They have blocked my online reviews on Social media and a attempt to stop for airing my grievances. In reaserching this i have learned so much more about the company that I want share here... The associates are knowledgeable about shoes, packs, and bike gear, and they genuinely care about getting you the right fit. The running section had just the right amount of shoes not to many to be overwhelming. The first time I went looking for trail shoes the guy who helped me brought me ONE pair of shoes and told me that was all they had meeting my requirements ( women's trail shoes, wide toe box). I left disappointed but I went back two days later, same store and lucked out big time. First Betty one of the managers took care of me then she called Eddie one of the Associates and asked him to look after me. This is one of my absolute favorite stores to wander around, specifically at this location, and this is coming from someone who is not an avid, outdoor adventurer. I shop at REI once every blue moon, and it would be very intentional. As an introvert who does not work well under pressure, I appreciate that I can bring in the things I've purchased online and changed my mind on, and receive great customer service. The customer service here has been about 98% great. The recent times that I have brought my items in for returns, Kim, Chad, and especially Robert, have been incredibly warm, kind, and efficient in helping me with my returns. Finally, I want to acknowledge and leave a review for Michael at this location too! I appreciate how helpful he was with my concerns in looking for a perfect sunhat. The most recent time, I was looking for a good sunhat for the summer that could fit my wavy hair in it too. When I am out for my walks/hikes, I tend to tie my hair into a pineapple bun. This makes looking for a hat that can accommodate my hair challenging. The associate, Michael, happened to notice my dilemma and gave me some great suggestions on which hat was good for what, the materials, and the pros and cons of the various hat options. Of course, it helps that he also has awesome curly hair that was in a bun! I appreciated his expertise and suggestions. It's not only a great shop for all your great outdoor needs but there's also a sense of community for people who have similar goals. Today I stopped there for new shoes and Bill was very knowledgeable about recommendations based on needs. Gian was also more than happy to different types so I could compare and contrast before buying. When I was checking out, Henry was also very friendly and told me if I wasn't happy with the shoes that I could clean them up and return them hassle free. I was so excited about the Hokas that it was probably the most eager I had ever been to go to the gym and put them to the test. I walked 4 miles like it was a piece of cake. This review is for the customer service at the register. I'm not a regular customer and probably haven't been in an REI store in over 20 years. I just went because I got a gift card and needed a light, waterproof jacket for an upcoming trip. The staff in the clothing section was really helpful with checking for sizes for anyone asking. Once I found what I wanted, I went to check out. The staff who rang me up asked if I was a member and I shared that I wasn't and probably don't need to be because I haven't been in an REI for over 20 years. He proceeded to explain the benefits of being a member and how I can get 20 percent off my purchase. I showed him my gift card and said I was fine with just that. He then, asked me about FIVE more times if I wanted a membership or if I knew anyone who would want a membership! I finally had to say, "No! I don't want a membership! I'm sure they get commission on each member they add, but sheesh! This was the most aggressive and annoying sales pitch I encountered in a long time! I hope management does a quality check for the customer service occurring at the registers because this approach was very ineffective and will deter customers from returning. read more

Not bad when you consider the generous 10% dividend on every purchase you make throughout the year. On January 1st they reset your account and mail a coupon with the total dollar amount, which can be substantial if you make frequent or large purchases. In store or online it doesn't matter. We came to the Huntington Beach location because the Tustin location did not have my size in a particular model of GTX hiking boot by Vasque, a big name in the industry. A lot of the best hiking gear is tagged with European companies, such as Solomon, La Sportiva et al. Anyhow, the drive was worth the rewards, boots that fit perfectly and associated dividend. We also liked the gentleman who helped us. That's also when I examined other mid-rize hiking boots that I eventually added to the collection. This store is a lot smaller than, say, the Rancho Cucamonga location, but it's half the size of Tustin, my personal favorite. Nevertheless, they carry the full lines and can get anything from another store or help you reserve stuff via phone. Parking is ample and nearby stores close pretty early mid-week so keep that in mind when planning shopping trips read more

For many many years I have been an REI customer. This REI store is one of the smaller ones but very comfortable place to shop. It's a newer store off the 405 and Beach Blvd. Easy large free parking. Costco, Staples, Bed Bath Beyond and many other stores are in the same complex area. I sometimes order things online for pickup here. They have a policy that if you are from Los Angeles and pickup or shop here you get an immediate 2% discount, 2.5% discount if you are from Santa Monica or Culver City. Why do they do that? It's because the sales tax in Huntington Beach is 2% less than LA and 2.5% less than Santa Monica or Culver City which both tax your purchases more than 10%. Ouch! The last time I was here, I just walked around the store and ended up leaving with a Patagonia Down Jacket that was Sooooooooo warm and comfortable I could not resist. It also fit me really well--and was on sale too. If you want real great quality stuff that works well, feels good, and not that crap you find on Amazon--shop in REI. Small store with helpful and friendly staff. We came looking for a Patagonia jacket for my father in law and while they didn't have navy blue we found a great black one. Our oldest one enjoyed bantering with the staff and learning how to say hello in different languages. I love REI. It's hands down the best outdoors store. They have a great selection of backpacks, outerwear, shoes, tents, and anything else you can think of. It can be a bit overwhelming if you go in not knowing already what you want because this place is HUGE. It's in a great location with tons of parking. I recommend researching before heading to the store. Sometimes it can be hard to find an employee to help you figure out what fits your needs best. I'm a returning customer and this is the store nearest to me. Even then, I drove 13 miles to shop here. I came to shop on 5/26/2025 to take advantage of the sale going on. Throughout the majority of my visit, I was being followed by staff. I was shopping with my father and I understand we might not look like your usual customer base. But it was incredibly embarrassing and frustrating to be closely monitored as I made my way around the store, holding items I had picked out. It almost makes me not want to go back to your store. Staff kept making uncomfortable eye contact with me and a pair of staff stood in front of the door as I waited, passing time while my elderly father used the restroom. Another employee offered to take my items from me and hold them up front even though I was unencumbered. I told them I was waiting for someone and then I'd be joining the line. I made a point to remain positive and pleasant throughout these interactions even though it was a thoroughly disheartening visit. Not all people who look poor are going to steal items. I saved up money to buy these items I had previously researched online. I very purposely went to this store on this day to buy these items. Only to be treated like a criminal. He was so knowledgeable and helped us with identifying pros/cons between Hokas and On clouds. He's a funny guy and gave us a lot of pointers on how to tie the shoe to get rid of/add some wiggle room to your normal size. What a great salesman. He was able to recommend the right backpack and layers to wear. Got the 150/250 merino wool smart wool vase long sleeved tops to wear when hiking. He was very patient in answering our questions and also gave us some tips when going hiking. I also found a lot of other goodies at this store.
