The playground along the eastern edge of Summit Park was very popular with the kids, There are135 acres (!) of greenspace, a fish-stocked (!) catch-and-release pond, and more climbers and such for older kids. The walkers and dog-owners among us liked the long network of paved paths and the dog-park area. There's a central open space apparently for concerts and such. I admit, i spent most of my time watching from outside the kids' playground, and listening to a band over the covered walkway next to the taco place, with a relaxing beverage from the nearby bar :-). Sometimes it's nice not to be in charge. None of us braved the cool-looking 9-level 153-foot observation tower because the we site said that the elevators were closed at the time. They say you can see downtown! There is also a slippery splash and play "water course" to explore which was closed, too, during our visit. They say there's ice skating in the winter. The whole experience worked for us because of the nice restaurants, bars, and ice cream shops along the north and east edges of the park. We ate twice with different groups at the Mexican taco place, and three times at the park-themed restaurant. We had coffee and drinks from the cafe / bar / bottle-store. We got ice cream twice! We didnt make it to the bakery or the diner, or the chic nail salon which could have been nice for some me-time :-).

Tips: You can go there earlier in the day to mark out and seven your spots. Check the WEBN website or other Cincy local sites for hours and rules. It starts getting pretty crowded down there about an hour before. There are things to do all day, so getting there early isn't going to be boring. Fireworks were last nite - which was a GREAT SHOwJust awesome. We hung out in the big tent and listened to The Milos, an alternative folk group. The music was great! It was cloudy but hot. Lots going on again this year there's a food truck alley but it mights as well be masses of people trying to get to the food trucks in the alley kinda thing. All good though for a great holiday. Conveniently located (for me lol) and had a lot of parking, although they closed the lot after I came in which was weird. I went around lunch time and was able to be home within an hour! Please do this event more often!! I tried the following: AJ's Cheesesteaks - I've heard so much about how they're some of the best cheesesteaks in the area. The product was definitely quality and the bread was good, but all I could taste was the butter they put all over the bun, no cheese or steak flavor. The sandwich was also kind of small. I would try it again sometime, especially the fries, but tbh Penn Station is better for me. Fusako - I was really excited to try this truck. I guess the signature item was the wings or the hotdog, which sounded great but too heavy for me. I tried the street corn gyoza and it was $10 for 4 gyoza with some canned corn and mayo topping and regular dumplings...? I didn't get it. Shaken up Lemonade - I appreciated that this lemonade was not super sweet and it was a large portion. Refreshing! Naughty Lobster - The sandwich was good, I just got a plain one instead of experimenting. I think it's better than the corporate lobster truck that comes around here sometimes. This place was packed and I wish they would do it once a month. I would so come back just try other things. As you can see in the pictures there are at least 50 food trucks. Every time I've come to Portsmouth, the streets have been dead. Except for River Days…read more The view of the Ohio River from Portsmouth is gorgeous enough as it is. But, add food, music, and rides and you've got a great weekend on hand. After settling on a black cherry flavoured sno-cone, the boy and I walked the path along the river whilst listening to the free music playing at the riverfront amphitheater. If you have kids, there are plenty of free kids activities to keep them busy and happy. We missed the parade, and there is also fireworks to close out the festival but we just made a quick day-trip down to the area to check it out. Great festival with a great view along the riverfront that I hope to make a yearly outing!
