I took in a new dog sight unseen in April of this year. He was recently neutered and about 18 months old. His prior owner was facing a health issue, and he kept breaking out of her yard and running wild in her neighborhood. I found him to be without ANY manners. I was in danger of being knocked to the ground any time I interacted with him. As he weighed about 65 pounds already, he needed trained ASAP. I searched for a board and training program in hopes of turning him into a companion quality dog. I chose PHDogs after reading the reviews and complaints about the various local training options. They had to pick him up from my place as he wouldn't get into any car. They reported that he really was one of the most challenging dogs that they have ever trained. His trainers worked with him multiple times each day. They worked with him for 4 weeks on crating at night, respecting fences, and staying within his yard. They worked on heeling, getting into and out of cars, and staying in a set "place." It took about ten days for him to get it. He still has his big puppy energy. After training he now walks on a leash calmly. He will get into any car when requested. He will crate as needed. In the house he settles down in his "place". If I didn't know better I would think that PHDogs gave me a different animal back. The only thing that I wasn't happy about was that their agility course wasn't in use in the warmer weather and I had really hoped that agility training would give me a good way to help him burn some of his energy safely. I may live over 400 miles away, but am SO glad I reached out to PhDogs about my anxious, skittish, 7 month old mutt. In the few months I had him his troubles seemed to be getting worse instead of better, and whatever I was doing wasn't working. I knew his anxiety toward strangers and children could lead to fear biting, and he was growing too big to outmuscle. Where I live I've found either "positive-only" trainers who believe corrections are abusive, or trainers who only know one way to get compliance and become harsh with a dog when their way doesn't work. When I called, Bethany listened to my concerns and recommended a board and train for 4 - 6 weeks. She had a cancellation and said I could start him in 3 days if I wanted to. This was a suggestion I didn't expect. The distance, costs, and commitment were significant, and the timing wasn't great. But after a few moments' hesitation, I said "yes." It was no fun commuting 5 times through horrible fires and traffic; but it was 110% worth it. Bethany and Lucy are dedicated trainers who love what they do, and the PhDogs facility is full of training resources. They have agility equipment, blinds, a dock diving pool, horses, donkeys, sheep, ducks -- even an ample population of wild ground squirrels at their disposal. (Where else could you find THAT?) They taught my pup to turn his attention away from livestock, critters, and other dogs. They drilled him in basic obedience. They also specifically counter-conditioned his worst fear triggers: Storm drains, elevated structures, having his paws restrained, strangers, and even children (while muzzled). Whenever I visited for lessons I trained directly with Bethany and Lucy and received amazing care and consideration. My questions were answered, and my mistakes were caught. My dog may have been treated strictly, but not in ways that increased his anxieties. How do I know? EVERY TIME I VISITED HE HAPPILY TROTTED BACK TO THE KENNELS WITHOUT ME. Bethany is amazing - not just at training dogs, but at training people, which is critical. Training theory is groovy, but not everyone can follow references to classical conditioning quadrants in real time. Dummies like me need practical metaphors that explain why I should do this or that, and Bethany is full of them! She also has one more very important resource: extensive experience successfully working with fearful and aggressive dogs. The dog I brought home still has his skittish personality - no one can change a dog's basic nature - but now both he and I have effective tools that allow us to work through his fears and anxieties. We decided last minute to board our two dogs for two nights at PhDogs because our regular boarding location was booked for the weekend. When we picked them up everything seemed to go well, and the dogs seemed okay. However, when we got home, we realized that our 10-year-old golden doodle was wearing a bark shock collar. We assume that the staff forgot to take it off before we picked them up. Fortunately, their forgetfulness shed light to what may be happening behind closed doors. We thought we might have missed a detail in the contract we initially signed about the possible administration of a bark collar, but after reading it over it was not included in the fine print. This is not something we condone or gave permission for the staff to do, which we feel is completely unacceptable. Our dogs do bark more than usual when they are in an unfamiliar environment, but that does not give the staff the right to administer a shock collar without the owner's permission. They are dogs! They should be expected to bark! We tried calling to confront the situation but was sent to voicemail and never received a call back. Many experts and organizations (American Veterinary Society of Animal behavior) report that shock collars can lead to increased fear, anxiety, and aggression in dogs, which is why a shock collar is something we do not feel comfortable using with our dogs. As a dog owner it takes an immense amount of trust to put the safety and well-being of our pups in someone else's hands. After our experience with PhDogs, we would never recommend dog boarding here due to their lack of transparency, honesty, accountability and reliability. [TL;DR] BEST DOG TRAINING WE HAVE EXPERIENCED. -Sign your dog up for training. -Do the homework given -Keep the training going Outcome = a good dog! It had been a couple months since my dog's last board and train with a different trainer and she had regressed a lot due to the fact that she was not able to get the same amount of exposure to dogs as she did at the other training facility. My dog had a lot of reactivity due to an attack when she was young. Prior to that she was extremely social and loved all dogs but now her tolerance had gone down. After doing a lot of research I came across PhDog's page and saw that Bethany was recently on a podcast. I listened and was quickly convinced that this was the place I needed to take my dog to for training. I contacted Bethany and described to her my dog's behavior issues, our concerns about signing her up for another board & train, and the training methods. She clearly explained to me her training methods, how she planned to train my dog, and her experience. Further more, Bethany was THE ONLY trainer who confidently explained to me that my dog's issues was not all aggression. She proved to be the most knowledgeable trainer that was able to clearly explain the difference between communication and aggression. I quickly signed my dog up for an evaluation the next day and knew I was already going to sign her up for a training program to address her issues. We showed up to her evaluation and was met by Bethany who took us in her facility and explained to us how she was going to evaluate our dog. Harley was met with some of Bethany's dogs, who are crazy obedient and well trained by the way. Bethany assessed my dog and then took us on a walk around the block to see how obedient she was with distractions. She concluded the evaluation by explaining to us her observations and advised us on what we should do. She asked us what our ultimate goal was with our dog and from there she would be able to modify her training to reach our goal. We expressed our concern about our dog regressing post training due to not getting exposure to dogs and Bethany informed us about her daycare options that our dog could come to after training. We were convinced and signed up our girl for her board and train on the spot. We dropped off our dog and picked her up two weeks later. Bethany gave us a lesson at pick up and homework to work on so that we could continue the training with our dog because with every trainer there is work for the owners to do to keep up with the training. No one is magical to fix your dog for you on the spot. Some people expect to drop their dog off and pick up a whole different dog. We knew our dog was not going to be completely reformed and more work was going to be done but Bethany was able to set a foundation for us. We intend to continue on with the training and keep working with Bethany. Currently our dog attend's Bethany's daycare once a week to continue her training and re-socialize her. You cannot believe the tremendous leaps our dog has made with the help of Bethany. She will back away from dogs that she does not like and I have yet to see her react to dogs the way she used to. Our dog also loves going to Bethany's! She jumps and goes crazy when we pull up to drop her off! That shows how well she treats our dog because dogs know the difference between good and bad. This location can work on their communication skills. At the end of the day of dog-training, there should be feedback on training tips to continue at home. After my 3rd day of dropping and picking up my dog, mind you I am a new customer, I never received any feedback on my dog's progress. The handler would give me my dog and that was it! At this point, I didn't see any changes, let alone received any feedback besides the fact that she was playing with other dogs. Of course, it takes time for a dog to get use to new surroundings. I understand that and that is not the reason of my review. I was so disappointed by day four, I didn't care that I had lost money, what I cared about was a little freakin-feedback, not pictures. I had reached out via email, but the delay of receiving an email just added the cherry on top. We started taking Calvin our Golden Retriever here at about 5 months old. We went on an extensive search for the best doggy daycare for him. As a new golden mom nothing was good enough for Calvin. Finally I came across PHDogs, we went and took a tour. I absolutely loved it! They have a very large area for the dogs to play, and the best part its all outdoors!! I knew right away this is where Calvin would be going. Calvin loves going to daycare, the minute he hears those words he's at the door with a wagging tail ready to go. It has been so great to help him socialize with other dogs, as well as get out some energy! Being so happy with daycare we decided to enroll him in K9 camp. We did the 4 week off leash training. He had some prior puppy training but nothing stuck, he was now a naughty 90 LB teenager I couldn't control anymore. Calvin worked with Emily and Bethany, from week one we saw a difference. We had a meeting at the end of each week with Emily to go over what he had learned, and how to duplicate the training at home. After 4 weeks of training he has become the most pleasant well behaved dog. We've made it part of our daily routine to continue to work with him at home, and love knowing if we need any additional help Bethany and Emily will be there. I can not express enough how happy I am with Calvin's training, and how nice it is to feel comfortable taking him out places on my own knowing he's going to listen and respond to what he learned!! I was referred by my coworker to Bethany. She is very knowledgeable and creative when it comes to dog training. I had a 10-year-old Australian shepherd Drake, who was dog reactive. We've been to three other trainers before Bethany. They were mostly punishment based and told me I should dominate my dogs by being an asshole to them. I like Bethany's approach better. She taught me about redirection, management, and being consistent. Her method is balanced and worked out well for my dog. I would recommend Bethany to anyone who has trouble handling their dogs. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, it sure why'd there are some negative reviews here. We have tried another popular day care and boarding facility in Riverside and they don't stand a chance compared to Phdogs. We payed the $75 for the tour prior to a weekend board. I met with Bethany who is courteous and to the point. She walked me through everything and every piece of the property my dog would spend time. Not only was it clean and well organized, it felt like a summer camp for dogs. All the dogs I saw while there were happy and relaxed. That was a huge green flag for me as it was obvious they were well taken care. They have so many different options and solutions for different types of dogs! This place is incredible!! Bethany and her staff fully delivered on my Charlie's 6 week board and training obedience program. During the first COVID shutdown my family wanted another puppy and one of my friends had a German Shepard 10 weeks old. I never had a German Shepard before but I quickly learned how smart these dogs are and their mental need to please. After a recommendation from my brother who also has a GS I called and had Bethany come out to my house to do a lesson. She asked me what I wanted from the training and after the first lesson I wanted more. Having 5 kids and a busy house I wanted a well behaved and obedient dog. At 7 months old now Charlie is on her way to being 100 percent off leash trained. Love Bethany and her team for helping us rehabilitate our baby Arya! She was a scared Saint Bernard who started to show aggression and almost bit a couple of strangers! Bethany was very thorough in her assessment of her during the meet and greet, unlike the first trainer we encountered. She is very detailed on what is gonna take place, very firm and you can clearly see that she is very knowledgeable in her field. She was very patient too, as I have been texting her a lot on days that I missed Arya and she would explain to me the rationale of what she's doing. Her place of training is very big, lots of room to train and activities for doggies. She has horses and chickens, which for me is great so Arya would be familiar to other animals too! Kennel area is clean and well ventilated. 6 weeks later, we are now able to walk Arya without her dragging us or us being nervous that she would go off on someone. Although it has only been a week since we got her back, we are very happy amd confident that Arya will retain her training. Training includes 6 sessions so she can teach you how to train your own dog for when you get home. We have 3 more sessions with her. We will take our dogs to her from now on. Have know these trainers for a while, honest, and dedicated to their disciplines, hard to find better!

After reading so many positive reviews I had extremely high hopes for PhDogs. I have a 2 year old female Siberian husky who is dog aggressive. I met with Bethany in April for an evaluation. I made my expectations really clear: I don't expect my dog to get along with every dog, but I wanted to be able to take her to friends and family's houses where there are other dog(s) and her not attack them. She assured me that was possible so I dropped my dog off for a month long board and train. During the time that she was there, I requested photos, videos, and daily updates on what was going on. At nearly $100 a day, that is NOT too much to ask for yet getting them was like pulling teeth. Maybe some people just trust the process, but especially since the "results" are nearly non-existent, I'm not convinced she did much more than keep my dog locked in a crate the majority of the day. I'm writing the review now so many months later because I've been fighting with my bank for the past 4 months trying to get back the $3000 that went down the toilet, however due to a clause in the contract that states "results may vary" I was unable to. Let me tell you the results I got. Prior to staying at PhDogs my dog got along with intact males only and all other dogs she attempted to avoid but if they wouldn't she would initiate a fight but NEVER bit them. Less than a week after picking her up I brought her to my friend's house to be around an neutered male. We stayed there Friday through Sunday and on Sunday afternoon, my dog out of the blue attacked this dog and LATCHED ONTO HIS NECK. Something she had NEVER EVER done before. So the results definitely may vary, they vary so much that my dog is now more aggressive than she was before. I can't take her out anywhere around other dogs without a muzzle. When I contacted Bethany regarding the incident she BLAMED ME for the fight because I didn't separate the dogs previously when I noticed that my dog was uncomfortable around him... I didn't spend $3000 for someone to tell me to separate my dog from other dogs. Aside from the very obvious fact that whatever training she supposedly completed had a negative effect on my dog, when I got her home I noticed she had burns (pressure necrosis) on her neck from the shock collar Bethany had used. She had large calluses on her elbows from which I assume she got from long periods of lying in her crate. Overall, PhDogs left a very bad taste in my mouth. Best advice I can give for dog aggressive dogs is save yourself $3000 and buy a muzzle. I truly believe that PhDogs is just in it for the money. My dog is worse now than before her stay there and rather than trying to rectify the situation, Bethany just blamed me for it. I'd give 0 stars if i could. TLDR; SAVE YOUR MONEY AND STAY AWAY. 10/2018 Update: I have not spoken with PhDogs since the incident, however I am updating because I was recently contacted by somebody who had a very similar experience as I did. Her dog came home personality changed--fearful--with marks on his neck and huge calluses on his elbows, just like my dog. She was also refused updates, photos, videos, and misled about the conditions her dog would be cared for under. Unfortunately that goes to show that things have not changed in the last year and a half. I also wanted to include the photos of my dog's neck with pressure necrosis from last year. Date of the photos is included for reference. Also I have included a photo of my dog's elbow so you can see over a year later she still has remaining calluses from her stay there even though she spends the majority of her time indoors and I've treated them with creams. She is still more fearful than prior to her stay there and gets visibly very scared if she even sees her e-collar. PhDogs is where I refer any and everyone with a fur baby. Whether it's simply for boarding or needing training for an issue, Bethany knows her stuff & truly has a love for pups! My husband and I have 3 very different dogs... a GSD, lab mix & Belgian malinois. We have gained so much knowledge from PhDogs as they have helped teach us how to understand our dogs and train them appropriately/accordingly. Rather than tell you how exceptional and effective Bethany and her staff are, I will share with you my story about my German Shepherd Dog, Hans. I've had Hans since he was an 8 week old pup. In the beginning, everything went really well. He was on a schedule for potty, feeding times and training. Fast forward 6 months; I received a job offer and begin to work full time. During this time I was not able to do as much training and socialization for Hans as I would have liked. Days turned into months, and I noticed that Hans started to display aggressive behavior. Unfortunately, I let this behavior continue to the point where I was unable to control Hans during walks and around visitors. I began to fear for the safety of others.  Step in, Bethany from PhDogs. I began my search for dog trainers in the area via Google, Facebook, Instagram and Yelp. I made sure to go the extra mile during my research to ensure that I chose the best trainer for Hans. After all, Hans is a part of my family and I wanted to make sure he got the best care. After looking through a dozen or so trainers and reading through reviews, I decided to give Bethany a call. My wife and I liked what we heard and decided to follow through with Bethany. We explained to Bethany what we observed of Hans. After Bethany's in-person evaluation, we decided the best course for Hans was the 6 week program. During this time, Bethany updated me on Hans' progress via text. She did a great job making sure I was always in the loop with his progress. We were also able to visit Hans during his stay, which really helped me when I missed him during his time away. After the 5th week, my wife and I brought in our other fur kid, Kenji, a Shiba Inu. Mind you, Kenji and Hans did not get along. They were constantly barking and lunging at each other. We talked to Bethany about our complicated situation about bringing Hans to our home (Hans was living with my parents at the time). We discussed how we wanted both our dogs to go on walks together without getting into scuffles.  Hans was with PhDogs for a total of 6 weeks with Kenji arriving during Hans' last week of training. Our goal was to have them get along, since they would both ultimately end up living together at our house. To be honest, my wife and I were skeptical. At the end of the sixth week we arrived at Bethany's place and she educated us on how to handle Hans during walks and in the home setting. After a 30 minute lesson, she brought out both Hans and Kenji, TOGETHER. Let me say that again: Walking out together. My wife and I were in complete shock. Mind you, the last time we saw them together, they were lunging at each other. We then took them on a walk, Hans responding to my lead on the leash, staying by my side, with Kenji right there with him. Hans didn't pull or lunge at other dogs, even when they barked at him. He didn't bark at the wind or the birds flying around. He was able to match my pace and he sat whenever I stopped. I was in complete shock and extremely happy with the results. Hans and Kenji have now been living with us for about a month. We are able to take them on walks and runs together with no quarrels or scuffles. We are able to introduce Hans to our family, who haven't seen him in years because of the aggression issues he has had. We got our puppies back and couldn't be happier with the results of Bethany's work. You can be assured that Bethany will care for your dog as if it's her own. Really good dog training my wife and I take our dog pancake there for training and for boarding. They are so customer service oriented they'll even come to your home to train the dog in his own environment. Britney is super knowledgeable and their facility is top-notch you have to ask him about the variety of services that they have because it's not just training. read more

Had one session and it went well then we discussed a plan of continued sessions to train my service dog prospect. I contacted her to confirm the next lesson the day before, she asked I drop my dog off for training a couple weeks later for her to work on some stuff with my dog as she was on light duty after her pregnancy...which was fine with me. Never heard back from her when I asked when to take my dog over for the day. Communication was very limited. After doing so much research to find a trainer who fit my dogs needs and mine that was able to do the foundation work my dog needed and advanced training I'd need later as my dog progressed with her training to become my service dog. Thankfully a few weeks later after never hearing back about taking my dog over to her I was able to find another dog trainer who specializes in service dogs. I just wish she could've said she wasn't interested or able to take me on as a client so my dog and I didn't miss a month of lessons waiting on her to respond. read more
