Came to this dog park for a beagle meet up.This is a really large dog park, especially the large dog side. The large dog side has plenty of water,and multiple poop bag stations. There's a few large shade trees and benches for the humans. The park is surrounded by a hugh public park. I saw plenty of walking the trails. In my opinion this is one of the better dog parks in the area. I prefer this park over the Vallejo Wardlaw Park, but there are a few major cons that I can see deterring people. The cons. Parking. Certain times of the year the dirt road leading right up to the dog park will be closed off. It's also a somewhat rough dirt road. When there are sports/practice parking can be difficult. You may need to walk a decent while from the paved lot to get to the dog park. The small dog side of the park is not used very often. It is mostly unkempt grass on a hill. The terrain of the large dog park is an artificial hill of astroturf and mostly dirt. Pros: The community here! The dogs and the people are wonderful. They really embody the heart of Benicia. The dogs are well behaved. The people are kind. People are usually very good about cleaning up after their pet. The park is well shaded and has plenty of seating. The City of Benicia maintains this park well. The poop bags don't run out and the trash is taken out. If your dog can get along with other dogs of all sizes this is a great park. If you have concerns about your small dog being in the large dog area then I can see why this isn't a good fit. read more

I always try to be fair in reviews so I believe for most people, this park is probably just ok. However, if you have a small dog, I would not recommend it. As other reviews mention, there is a bit of a walk from the parking area to the dog area, which is fine as most people are bringing their pups for exercise anyway. Unfortunately, the small dog area is tiny. Like, really tiny. Like, my garage has more square footage than the tiny fenced area they have for small dogs. Some reviewers stated you should just take your small dogs into the large dog area and to be fair, it's tempting. The large dog area is probably a good 6 times larger that the small dog area and had much more shade and toys. Plus, while there were lots of people with large dogs in the park, there were only actually two in the dog area. I don't mind parks that mix small and large areas, because typically the dogs are well behaved, but I am familiar with large dog owners whose dogs don't particularly do well with small animals but are fine with other large dogs so they bring them to separated parks. Therefore I don't personally want to take a chance bringing my girl into the large dog area. Overall the dog area is just not that nice and although we tried playing fetch with our girl in the tiny space, she got bored very quickly. I will not return to this park and would not recommend it for small dog owners...take your little pups to the pier instead and let them splash in the waves! read more

If you have a small dog, don't bring them here! The small dog area is already small in general. Some of these owners lack common sense and bring their dog aggressive dogs to a dog park. I clearly tried to avoid them when they had big dogs in the small dog area, by allowing them on an empty side with no other dogs. The lady precedes to bring her German shepherd into the side I'm on, in which her dog began to attack my dog (who was neutered). Please beware of an older lady with a German shepherd, I don't want your dog to be another victim. Honestly avoid this place in general if you have a small dog, the space is not worth your time and clearly there are some irresponsible owners in this area. read more

Nov. 12, 2022 The dirt road leading to the dog park has been closed for a couple of weeks. Very annoying. All the rest of the access roads in this community park are paved, but the last stretch leading to the dog park and the skateboard park were left as dirt as if dog owners were second class citizens. A lot of dirt is blown about from this road which is an annoyance and health hazard for dog owners and skateboarders. read more

A decent place to take your dog if you are in benecia and they need some exercise. Unfortunately, there wasn't a lot of space for your dog to run and we saw a good amount of trash including broken glass lying around. read more

Phenix Dog Park/ Benicia Dog Park is a good place to take your dog. It's a bit of a walk from the parking lot but the park is pretty chill and almost relaxing. With a lot of trees and shade for the hot days, it's good almost all year round. You can even go for a hike with your pup after leaving the gated area but must be on leash. It's a decent park, small to med-sized I'd say. Nice people with nice dogs when I've visited. Seems to always have plenty of grass, clean, and full water buckets. I have a husky that likes to run and it's a good size for her to get some speed and distance from one end to the other. Important to know that it IS fenced in with a waist-high chain link fence, and has a double-gated safety entrance. It's also near a community rec area that's very pretty, lot of kids and people around. All in all I'd recommend for a local park! read more

Took my Catahoula to this park today. He had such a blast. It was our first time at a dog park so I dont have much to compare to. I can say that the place was nice. FENCED and friendly ppl there with their friendly dogs and clean water buckets out. Just had a great time. Definitely will be making this place more of an often visit. read more

The best dog park in Solano county...and I've been to them all. Small but nicely shaded which is what distinguishes this park from all of the rest. It's okay for a small town park, it's kind of small. Half of the dog park has been refurbished with lawn and a tunnel feature, and two hills for the dogs to run and get up some speed. The thing I don't understand is the city placed big rocks around the trees (to conserve water, most likely), but used up a lot of area with big rocks at least a 7 foot diameter around one of the trees, in the corner of the lawn. Obviously, no one and no dog can use that section and I'm just waiting for an injury to happen there. Someone could turn an ankle, or a dog could easily break a leg in that section if it accidentally ran through the area. That's a big concern for me. Otherwise, the people who frequent the park are nice, the dogs are great. I've never had a problem with any dog or its owner there. read more

This is okay if you're bringing your dog to "socialize" like people like to do, but not great if you're trying to play catch. Also, it's too far to walk to unless you live out that way. There's nothing like this downtown, and in fact it's illegal now to have your dog anywhere downtown without a 6 foot leash on, so you can't legally play catch with them anywhere. The only exception is that they can swim off the first street sea wall, only when the tide is in. And the propaganda is that Benicia is "dog friendly". BS. read more

Not the best place but it's ok but not worth to drive there but if you live around Benicia. Or close to the dog park it's ok. Although, it's small, it's nice and shady, a lot of friendly dogs. And also a good place to see your neighbors sometimes. It has a smaller area for smaller dogs. Not a great place for your dog to run around but it works for a small town like Benicia. It has water fountains and also water for the dogs. Some dogs can be very hyper and lovable,but can be a little hyper with your dog. But I (personally) think that if you don't live around here, don't come here. read more

It is a very nice park with alot of space to run. Plenty of tennis balls and chairs. There is also a smaller area for people who have those little, irritating, yappy dogs that are afraid of getting trampled by real dogs. There is fresh water access. The problem here seems to be with pet owners that pay no attention to their pets. I have seen some people just dump their pets here and leave, expecting others to mind their dogs. Not cool! My dog loves this park but recently realized that the acorns in the park make her VERY sick. If your dog has gastro problems a few hours after visiting this park, you might google how poisonous the acorns from certain oak trees can be to animals. I recently visited this dog park with my newly adopted year-old Shepherd. There were several friendly dogs in the park, and my dog was running and playing with a couple of them. But another dog, who wasn't playing with the dogs, shot out as my dog ran past--from 20 feet away--and bit my dog on the flank, completely unprovoked. This resulted in a major injury and a $550 vet bill, 2 weeks recuperation for my dog during which time she won't be able to play or run. I had spoken with the woman with the unsocial, aggressive dog previously, and she apologized for her dog's behavior but she did not control or leash her dog. I feel quite angry about this but there is no recourse for me, other than trying to track the owner down and letting her know that her dog is unstable and should not be loose in the park. That would mean going back to the park, however, something I do not wish to do. It is a shame, as my dog was just beginning to enjoy making new dog friends. read more
