I realize our intelligence seems to have declined as a society at this point but you don't give a movie theatre one star because the person in front of you farted during a movie. *Insert eyeroll emoji here* This park is super cute and we are so glad we stopped here. The dog areas are separated and (let me be clear that I am not factoring this into the rating but) there were lots of other friendly courteous dog owners while we were there. They had grass, water, poo bags, shade, benches and even tables inside the dog area. Apart from that, the park itself is nice. There are lost of well maintained grassy areas so even if you don't want to have your dog off-leash, there are plenty of places to walk them or play on a lead. There is parking really close to the dog area for anyone who might have mobility issues and there was a clean open bathroom available for use. We were only able to stay about 30 minutes but we really didn't want to leave. This is a great park to enjoy if you are in the area with or without a dog.

There is a huge area for larger dogs to run around and plenty of benches spread all over. I like that there is a hiking trail as well in the same area. The water stations are in good working condition, we bring our own bowl though. Poop bags are available as well. The only negatives are: some owners are too busy socializing to see if their dog does his business somewhere and therefore poop left behind. The small dog area is dusty where the grass is sparse and we always end up doing a good wipe down after every visit. The ground in the small dog area is also very uneven, watch those ankles. Lastly, beware of foxtails if going for the short hike.

Newhall Park is a large, neighborhood park not far from where I live. It has many things to…read morerecommend it, and yet it has been ages since I've been there - maybe I'm guilty of the "grass is always greener" syndrome. But finally, my wife and I returned on the recent Sunday and were reacquainted with all it has to offer. It's a good park for walking: there's a flat, dirt path that circles the park; I didn't measure it, but it's a decent length, especially if you make multiple rounds. Along the way you see the park has a large bocce ball court, a popular dog park, and a good sized hill for cardio purposes with the Concord Vietnam Memorial on the top. A weekend adult soccer game was going on in the middle of the field. On the other side of the park is a pond (we saw an egret, ducks and geese), and a marsh-like area with tons of cattails. Galindo Creek, heavily shaded with trees, borders the edge of the park. A number of benches let you take a break when you need it from your walk. Newhall Park is a little rough around the edges visually. There's none of the graceful elegance of a Walnut Creek Larkey Park, with its paved path, lush green grass and stately trees. Newhall's grassy areas are functional, but look beat up with numerous dead spots (maybe blame the soccer). The walking path is hard dirt, but can be messy after a rain. The parking lot also is unpaved, and is in poor condition with bumps and holes. We noticed a number of cars parked along Turtle Creek Road prior to the park entrance. But these are minor concerns. In the uber-populated East Bay, any park is a welcome break from wall-to-wall homes, stores and concrete. Newhall Park is an easy way to get out and breathe the fresh air, and deserves the popularity it enjoys. That Walnut Creek park may have greener grass, but sometimes that park down the street is all we need.

I'm always finding the most wonderful little spots in this city. Been meaning to visit this park for a loooong time. I'd always heard that it was nice. Even drove passed it a million times, but finally stopped by to get a quick little hike in one evening. All I can say is daaaayum. What a beauty!!! Not only are the hiking trails wonderful, but the actual park itself is great. It's super clean with lots of parking and restrooms on site. They've got a kid's playground area, a soccer field, and even a track for some easy exercise. There's also an adjoining park that has tons of picnic tables and outdoor exercise equipment as well as several large grassy fields and walking paths (Hidden Valley Park). And those lakes! They are simply beautiful. They really sneak up on you too. I took a short walking path from Hidden Valley Park and connected to Hidden Lakes. Turned a corner and then BOOM! This beautiful little lake seemingly appeared out of nowhere. There's a nice little waterfall. Not sure if there are actually any fish in this lake, but I did witness one person fishing (or at least trying too). The hikes in this park are all on the shorter side but perfect for a quick little jaunt. You can also extend it by connecting the nearby walking paths for a longer excursions. What's nice is that there are several hills that you can climb up to get some inclines in. And once you reach the top, you'll be rewarded with some wonderful views of tbt entire park as well as some great panoramic views of the city. I was seriously in awe during my entire time here. This is such a gorgeous and extremely well maintained park that's perfect for kids, pets, and families. Will definitely be getting my butt out here again before the end of summer.

Then there is the lack of accountability that really gets me. I had to pay a huge vet bill because people can't seem to follow the rules, have dogs with behavior issues, and have the audacity to be insincere about the whole thing. If you love your dog, DON'T BRING THEM HERE unless of course you're prepared to fight dogs off your dog and argue with other pet owners. This is my FIRST and LAST time coming here.

The owners are very good about picking up after their dogs and the grass is kept mowed and every year its reseeded. The cons are like every dog park everywhere-- dogs that should not be in the park-- overly aggressive, not fixed, etc are occasionally brought in but in my experience thats rare.. and rude owners-- which are more prevalent, and small dog owners bringing their dogs to the big dog side..but since my dog isn't reactive I dont personally care. The little ones dont stray far from the fence or their owners, and those dogs in the little park are much more aggressive than the big dogs (and louder)..but still-- there's a big size difference so you do that at your own risk..

Every owner in the small dog area was very respectful and carefully watching their dogs to make sure every pup was behaving well with one another. This park is located right of the 242, its easy to access with lots of parking. The kids get to play in a small scale castle, stores, and boat spaces to keep them entertained. Every time we come here, our older son just runs around until we say it's time to go home. We go for walks in the neighboring park and fields to get some exercise in as well. Check out this park if you're in the Concord/Martinez area to discover something new. They recently updated the fields nearby and parking lot. They have food trucks on the weekends. You will have fun!
