It saddens me that I am writing this review regarding a restaurant I otherwise like very much. Recently I placed an order that included, sauteed broccoli and what I received was Broccoli Rabe, drenched in olive oil. I was totally unable to eat. I through it out, as I do not like the taste of broccoli rabe (bitter) and the oil situation. I totally like the staff at Phil and Son, everyone is very professional, that is why I dislike writing this review. Disregard this place, Me and my wife came here today on Tuesday noon, Mind you it was our first time here and I was looking forward to reviewing this place on my social media. Everything seemed fine at first the short counter man, (the one with the glasses) greeted us and told us to "take our time", while we reviewed their menu, but guess what? That wasn't the case, He kept banging the counter with his nails And kept loudly sighing as if it was 15 minutes mind you it was only 5 minutes and no one else was waiting behind us it was empty... So I ordered my wife a cheeseburger deluxe and I got 2 specialty slices, The worker Is still being very rude at this point being very pushy and hostile "that's it" "that's it" ? So when I go to make my drink selection he's still being pushy and literally watching me like a hawk and I'm talking to my wife about drinks and he's in the conversation as if he thinks I'm his husband rushing me to pick out a drink. At this point I'm just keeping my cool and then when I get my drinks He charges me $31 And doesn't ask me cash or card and demands I pay right away even though we are dining in to stay. My wife gets the cash ready no problem and guess what ? The guy trys to serve my pizza first without making the burger first. Why tf would my pregnant wife want to watch her man eat first ? You would think someone that's more than half your age would have proper morals and common logic regarding manners but that's not the case. The last straw was when I addressed this to him stating I would want the food together, as what is the point of dining together with your wife right ? So instead of apologizing he sucked his teeth at me and threw both slices on top of the dirty oven without it being covered, he definitely did this out of spite. This is my "go to" for a slice of their tasty grandma's slice. I drove from a far to get my fix and it was well worth it. They put a good amount of sauce on top with a little bit of garlic in the middle. I complimented the owner manager. The pizza place was recently renovated also. I have been craving pizza and had to come here since I was close by. For 2 slices and a soda can it's $8. It is a bit pricey, but the slices are big, hot, crunchy and tasty. The pizza sauce and cheese are perfect. I was half full from consuming one slice. You will not be disappointed. read more

I was working in the area and some of my colleagues and I were looking for lunch. We didn't have too much time, and noticed Phil & Sons close by so we thought that would work. I'm always down for pizza and trying new spots out, so I was excited to check it out. My first thought was that Phil's was just a pizzeria, but they actually have a good selection of go-to Italian dishes - apps, mains, sides, etc. We didn't want to complicate things too much so we all decided to share a large cheese pie. The pie was pretty good - it was nice and hot and the cheese to sauce ratio was on point. The crust was a little thicker than my personal liking, but it's not the most offensive I've had. Overall, while the pie was good, I didn't find anything too outstanding about Phil's pizza - it was just a fine slice with a crust a smidge too thick for my liking. I would definitely be open to returning to try more of their selections; when I'm in the area again and lunch is calling, Phil's may be the answer. read more

Came here yesterday around noon and ordered the Lunch Special for my friend. 2 cheese slices and a soda for $8. Great Deal! I didn't see them having the typical sodas - Coke, Sprite, Mountain Dew. I picked the Pepsi Mango for her. It was very busy at this time! Students, healthcare workers from the hospital nearby. All the tables were seated and it was crowded. The line was long but moved fast. The line moves in as opposed to moving out towards the door. I didn't know that and ended up in the sea of people and blocking other people. They get your pizza to you quick. Packed and ready to go in minutes. Food is nonetheless tasty and fresh here, I've been here before getting garlic knots and pepperoni pizza. I remember coming to this pizzeria when I was younger and just recently went back today. They have the usual menu of pizza, pasta, garlic bread, etc. The back has a small dining area with wait staff. The front area has more seating and tables and it's where you order food. We ordered two plain slices and the fish and chips. I thought the food was okay. Pizza was fresh and just came out of the oven. The fish and chips had a nice crust and was flaky. What really impressed me though was how very friendly the staff was. I noticed a mom and her two kids come in while I was eating. She ordered a slice of pizza for each of them and the staff person offered to cut up the pizza into smaller pieces for the kids. Wow, not many places do that or offer it without asking. Just for that, I plan on coming back and giving the food another try. read more

This place has been around since I was a kid almost 30 years ago. Don't know if same owners, but the pizza is still good. From the classic ny slice to grandma style, you can't go wrong. Delivery is prompt. My favorite is their grandma pie. The basil and fresh garlic along with that crispy crust and cheese go together so well. Hope everyone there stays safe and healthy during this crisis. I grew up in the neighborhood and knew Phil. Ben.coming here for years with my family. I went there today and got awful service. I called ahead 25inutes for a large pie to be picked up. There were 3 tables of customers and it was not busy. The guy behing the counter was half asleep screwing up everyone's orders. Gave a credit card back to the wrong customer!! Some of their items are rivaled by no other restaurant actually their pizza is a bit burnt but their heroes and pasta dishes are divine, especially their calamari and anti pasta has a heavenly flavor that you can't find anywhere else. I must say that the more I try the food here the better they become or maybe because I didn't realize how good the tomato sauce tastes like at this place. They've nailed it. I really think the tomatoes that they use plus the consistency in the taste made me want to give them 5 stars. Recently we came here and I tried a different dish without pasta and I knew the red sauce was different than the fruitti di mare that I always order but this sauce was super delicious too. Go to neighborhood pizza in downtown flushing/Murray Hill area, no frills. Family owned and operated. It's a legit NY slice kind of pizza. If you ever tasted a NY pizza this is a NY pizza. Gooey cheese, the oil either dripping off of it on to the paper plate or your dabbing it off with a paper napkin. The family that owns the place are nice and friendly. Favorite slice is the bbq chicken pizza. But their white calzones are great and so is everything else on the menu. I'm glad they've reopened, thought they closed permanently but it turns out they were just renovating. read more

This is something that should be done at closing time when food isn't out in the open to be contaminated with cleaning solutions.
