12/29/2019 PR105 Review: If you want your holiday spirits dampened by cold unfriendly, inexplicable attitude then this is the flight of your dreams. Our flight stewardess never smiled during the 15 hour journey. During the meal service, she asked me what I wanted to drink. I requested for ginger ale. Her cart was out of ginger ale. She acted like I asked her to fetch for a gallon of liquid gold from the fountain of youth. I would've changed my preference if she gave me another choice. I could not believe what I just saw. I wish there were more choices when it comes to direct flights to the Philippines. Flight PR5104 01/15/2020 however was a different story. This was a make-up flight from a cancelled one from the night before. Passengers were understandably tired and weary but the crew were very helpful and made you feel that Filipino hospitality that you know.

PAL: Plane Always Late Imagine this.... Saturday evening at Philippine Airlines. You're dropping off your loved ones at SFO (San Francisco International Airport). They're flying Philippine Airlines (the midnight flight and only flight that leaves SFO). So you drag your balikbayan* boxes for miles from the parking terminal or drop off point to the check in. Herds upon herds of confused and sometimes angry Filipinos are waiting in line. Each one of them has a story to tell or a dramatic event that brought them here. But somehow you manage to entertain yourself and your loved ones like this... "Go to the nearest white courtesy phone and ask the airport operator to page, "Gary Valencio". Tell the operator that Gary has to meet his party in the baggage claim." After the operator makes the announcement, you'll have the ease and simplicity of getting your baggage and boxes checked in on time. Provided that the check in staff doesn't abandon this stations. You can thank me later. =) Balikbayan = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balikbayan_box

The plane arrived on time, and since it was an overnight flight, they gave a complimentary blanket and neck pillow, both of which were incredibly comfy. United also provided numerous food and drink services. First they brought out snacks, which were high quality cheese and crackers. After, they brought out meals, where you go to choose from chicken, beef or pasta. I chose chicken, which was a chicken polenta. I don't like polenta to begin with, so I didn't like the meal, but the people next to me had the other options, which looked very good. After a few hours, they gave everyone sandwiches, which were my favorite. Definitely high quality airplane food. To finish off the flight, they did breakfast, which tasted pretty good. Drinks were served with every meal. The best part was the in flight entertainment. The screens in front of me were equipped with dozens of free movies, free services for TV like Apple TV and Hulu, and even an interactive flight tracker. The flight attendants were really nice as well. Would definitely fly United again!

Positives - Expansive offerings of flight times and geographic coverage, and so this provides extensive connectivity. - Big hub presence across the US: Chicago O'Hare (ORD) (also the headquarters), Denver (DEN), Houston (IAH), Los Angeles (LAX), Newark (EWR), San Francisco (SFO), and Washington Dulles (IAD) - Usually lower priced than competing airlines. Negatives - Customer service leaves much to be desired. Maybe I'm comparing UA's service to Asian branded airlines, but yeah, disappointing. - Some planes are showing their age inside and out, but thankfully I mostly fly international which I think get the better planes. - My child was not feeling well once and we push the call button for help and the flight attendant just ignore us and when she finally came over, she dismissed our request for help. - My child threw up all over herself for lack of a barf bag (it was missing in our seat pocket). - Requested warm water and was given iced water when we already told them my child was not feeling well (the illness came on suddenly). All in all, not good memories of UA and generally leaves much to be desired. Thankfully, safety seems ok and pilots are experienced.

The front desk was really good and helpful, as we observed them dealing with other guests...some foreign guests. Yep...I felt right at home as a business guy. Sitting in the dining room, there were mostly single men and women at the various tables. Many with laptops open and still in business dress, they were still "working" as no one had a book that they were reading. That was me just a few years ago. The hotel is located a shuttle trip from SFO airport, so very convenient and much cheaper and more quiet than being downtown. As a Hyatt member, we were given a World of Hyatt discount card which we did use. Thanks. The restaurant was one of the many "shops" in the huge open area, surrounded by the very high, many levels of rooms. The rooms look down on this "pit". Excellent menu and the prices were not as outrageous as they could be. Nice wine selection and we both had $13 glasses of a Sonoma Zinfandel. Service was great and not being hungry, we just split a good $33 pizza. A bit steep, but we customized the composition to our tastes. The World of Hyatt card gave us a welcome 15% discount. You can turn in your rental car, call for the shuttle and later take the shuttle to catch your flight out.

I waited in line for approximately 20 minutes before I just asked out loud where can I get my bag. And the lady very politely stated, carousel #1 at baggage claim. This was information that when they finally announced the flight cancellation over the PA could have also provided. Information regarding refunds was not vocalized either. I just wasn't very impressed with the customer service. I would not recommend flying Frontier. Jet Blue for life!

My first experience flying Frontier -- and unfortunately, probably my last…read more I typically fly United, but I needed to make an unexpected trip from Houston, Texas to Cleveland, Ohio to see an ill family member. Frontier was less expensive for the immediate trip, so I decided to give them a chance. Overall, most of my flights were actually good. The majority of the trip went smoothly, and I had no major complaints about the flights themselves. Unfortunately, the problems I experienced with Frontier's customer service and my final connecting flight home really changed my overall impression. Before booking, a friend of mine who works for Frontier gave me a promotional code for the Frontier credit card. I was told the code would provide miles and Gold status without requiring purchases, as part of the card approval process. However, when I completed the online credit card application, there was nowhere to enter the promotional code. I contacted both Frontier and Barclays for help, and unfortunately, I was repeatedly sent back and forth between the two companies, with each telling me that the other company needed to handle it. I still never received a satisfactory resolution. Then, when booking my ticket, I was supposed to receive the $100 credit/discount associated with the new Frontier card. However, I couldn't use the new card because there was no virtual card available to use immediately. When I contacted Frontier about that, the response was essentially, "You can use it next time." At that point, I wasn't even sure there would be a next time. Unfortunately, my final connecting flight home on Sunday was the experience that really sealed it for me. I had an assigned middle seat, which was actually one of the two seats I am comfortable flying in. I intentionally choose window or middle seats because I do not like sitting in the aisle. There is too much passing by, people bumping into you, reaching across you, etc. A couple was assigned the window and aisle seats in my row and wanted to sit together. When they arrived, I stood up to let them into their seats. The woman then asked if I would switch seats with her so they could sit together. I told her I was willing to switch as long as I wasn't being moved to the aisle seat. She was already being quite aggressive about the situation and ultimately pushed her way into the middle seat I had been assigned, while my backpack was still underneath the seat in front of it. My position was simple: I was not refusing to cooperate. I was willing to let them sit together. But if someone is asking me to give up the seat I specifically selected and was assigned--one of the two types of seats I am comfortable sitting in--I don't think it's unreasonable to say that I don't want to be forced into an aisle seat that I would never select for myself. What was most frustrating was when a flight attendant eventually came over to address the situation. Instead of helping find a reasonable solution, the couple was essentially allowed to take the seats they wanted, and I was the one who was forced out of my originally assigned seat. If sitting together was that important to them, they should have selected and paid for seats together when booking. I don't think another passenger should have to give up their assigned seat and be forced into a seat they specifically don't want simply because another couple wants to sit together. I understand that airlines have policies and that passengers sometimes need to accommodate one another. I'm always willing to be reasonable and courteous. But being courteous should work both ways. Unfortunately, the combination of the credit-card promotion/customer-service runaround and the way the seating situation was handled left a really bad final impression. I gave Frontier a chance because the price was better for a trip I needed to make quickly. Most of the actual flights were fine, but the overall experience reminded me that there is more to an airline than the ticket price. I honestly feel like I should have just paid the extra money and flown United like I normally do. This was my first time flying Frontier, and unfortunately, my experience has left me questioning whether I would choose them again. Sometimes the saying "you get what you pay for" really does hit home.

In general, I would fly this airline again except for the way the steward/stewardesses were waking people up periodically to serve food etc. I am not sure what there policy is, but other airlines do no wake you up. The main reason for four stars (not 5) is the stewardess woke me up on landing as she put away my stowable entertainment system back into the armrest and took my knee out as she lifted it.
