Food was great ,service was nice and the atmosphere was friendly and made me fill like I was eating at my grandma's place.

I went out to eat with my family on Friday evening. Our steaks were not cooked to order, and they were stringy, like the sort of cheap steaks you'd get inside a box from a man selling them out of the back of his truck. The soda tasted watered-down. I ordered salmon with red pepper cream sauce served over seasoned rice. Instead of a vibrant, fresh sauce, there was a thick layer of cheap-tasting cheese ladled all over the salmon, smothering the flavor out of everything else. The rice was bland. On a Friday evening, a good restaurant should be jam-packed; here, however, only half the tables were occupied. For three people, $140 is an insane price to pay given the low-quality food that we received. Philip M's is much better. I would be giving one star if it were not for the service, which I have no complaints about: our server was courteous and attentive, and we tipped her appropriately. read more

The popcorn shrimp app is a must. The spinach artichoke dip is not too bad. The wings are great but pricey for the size. We asked if we could get half mild and half medium and our server said no. Our server was nice but not attentive and not knowledgeable about the menu. I had to walk to the front for a refill Mike had the chicken tenders and house cut fries. Very good. I had the Alfredo with grilled shrimp. She first brought grilled chicken and I will normally settle and not say anything but I had clearly stated shrimp and wanted shrimp. The remake came fairly quickly and the shrimp were perfectly cooked and seasoned well. Alfredo sauce was above average but not amazing. Fettuccine was perfectly al dente You have to get the bread pudding. It's off the chain. Forgot to take pics but the presentation was very good. Great place for a small town. Really enjoyed the whole experience here. I sat at the bar and let the waiter/bartender know I'm from out of town and it was my first time. She helped provide really good advice that left me very happy with my choices. The steak was Medium well and which was the perfect choice as the middle of a 10 oz always ends up being closer to medium. The Caesar salad came mixed with plenty of dressing. Had a delicious dinner at @PhillyPorterHouse last night started off with the Crab Dip w/ Pita Chips which tasted great and was full of crab. Then I moved on to the Gumbo, which was packed with chicken, sausage, and a whole lot of flavor. Finally for the main course I had a 6oz. Filet Mignon w/ Fries. Seasoning on this steak was bold but not overpowering definitely let the meat shine and the cook was a perfect medium. All in all a very good meal! read more

First time eating here and I was impressed! They were very busy when we arrived so we opted to sit in the bar area vs the 20+ minute wait it was going to be. The service was excellent, food was great, and the atmosphere was on point for this style of restaurant and bar. I had the Creole Red Fish with crawfish sauce and asparagus. Yes it was great! Lacked just a little on the portion in my opinion. My daughter had the Salmon and I was surprised to see her eating it. I tried a bite and was disappointed I hadn't ordered it myself. A friend of mine ordered the 20oz boned in ribeye and from the looks of it and the satisfaction on his face I think the chef must have done the job. Me and my friends were treated different because of the way we were dressed at the time. We all have very good job and make plenty of money. Overheard the waiters talking about not sitting us close to the door cause we might skip on the bill. They came back and told us we needed reservations and they had a dress code we didn't match. What they didn't know is we had just left the casino thousands and thousands of dollars up and we had intended on spending ALOT of that back right then. Guess they missed out on that money. The red-fish was de-lish! Perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, and perfectly portioned! My mouth wanted seconds but I was full! Even the sweet tea was amazing. (not everyone can make really good tea) My ONLY complaint is how quickly my plate turned into picture number two. read more

We came up here for a show at the casino and used yelp to find somewhere to eat. Found this place and tried it. I was impressed from the moment I walked in the door. Super friendly staff and the ambiance was inviting. There was a little wait so we went to the bar and ordered drinks. I had a beer and my wife and our friend had the raspberry lemonade. They gave it two thumbs up and then some! I have to admit I tried it and they were super tasty. We ordered and within a couple of minutes my buddy and I had our salads which came with real homemade ranch dressing. It was top notch. Got our steaks and appetizers in a strikingly quick amount of time even though they were packed out with a wait. I have to say my steak was superb, probably the top five steaks I've had in MS. I did while visiting in the area just this past week enjoy my second dinner at The Porterhouse in Philadelphia, Mississippi. It was as delightful the second time as the first. This is a favorite dining place of my sister and her family who live there in town and I absolutely understand why. The Porterhouse is located just off the Philadelphia town square in converted commercial/industrial space. There is no dedicated parking lot but free street side parking is conveniently available. The ambiance is casual and welcoming. The modest menu offers a satisfying selection of starters, soups and salads, chicken and seafood entrees, sides, deserts, and--of course--steaks. They also have a full bar. It is all wonderful. The prices are entirely in keeping with the food and service. And speaking of the service, a special delight is the always very friendly and tremendously accommodating wait staff. I would strongly recommend The Porterhouse to anyone. read more

The food was very good. My meal began with a Caesar salad with wonderful croutons and the perfect amount of dressing on it. Then I had the creole pasta. Sliiight kick in the sauce, just enough to get your attention, but not so much you can't enjoy the flavor. It had a good mix of crab claws, shrimp and crawfish. The portion size was just right. My wife ordered the Chicken Bryan, but requested no rice (she substituted asparagus). The chicken was very good, but thin. We imagined the meal as normally served would be filling, but only because of the rice. Don't expect to be blown away by a huge piece of chicken. My wife eats pretty small meals, so without the rice it was just right. The service was good. Our server was very friendly, and though we had to wait for him to come back by once or twice, he was helpful with the menu. We saw another server, who seemed quite busy during our visit, stand idly by with food in hand while her guests blessed their meal. All in all, I would definitely return. I had been stuck in a nearby casino for a few days due to a convention. I was desperately searching for quality food with flavor AND servers who actually cared about a quality of service. On the night I visited there was a 20oz ribeye special. At first the steak was cooked slightly rarer rather than my usual preference. However, this was quickly corrected with no issue (much better to be undercooked than overcooked.). Once cooked to my liking, the steak was very tender and the marbling was perfect. Save room for the peanut butter pie. My slice had been freshly made, and this has the best consistency of any peanut butter pie I've ever tasted. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience, and this dinner was the highlight of an otherwise monotonous and boring business trip. If I find myself back in town, I will plan as many meals here that I can fit into my schedule. First timers, beware that the entrance could easily be described as in an alley. read more

We had dinner here last night. Excellent experience. This place is just off the square in what is really an alley. I'm not sure what it used to be but at one time it must have been a business with storage on the second level. All that is gone now. All we can see is the brick walls and tables. There is a kitchen in the corner as did a drape separating the bar from the eating area. The food was much better than most of what is offered around here. The had to try appraiser the fried green tomatoes were a real surprise. The sauce was great and it was sprinkled with chunks of crab meat. I liked it. We both had the beef tenderloin. I had 8 oz and my wife had 6 oz. both came with a salad we chose Caesar. Small but it tastes like they really used the little fishes. For side I had asparagus and she had baked potato. The grilled asparagus was done just right. A bit crispy and seasoned just enough to not overwhelm the natural taste. The potato was done "just how I like it" creamy and smooth. The tenderloins were done to order. I like medium rare. I should haven taken a picture but it had to be an inch and a half thick. Really unheard of here. Around here it doesn't matter if you order 6 or 24 oz it comes 3/4 in thick. So I started off positive when it came out. It was a good cut. No fat or anything other than meat. Can't wait to try again. We shared a Peanut Butter Pie. Well worth it even if you are full. I didn't finish my half but it was great so my three bites were all I needed. Be ready to spend some time this is not fast food. If you do want fast call ahead and take out. They do a brisk business that way. I didn't go to the bar so no comment here. I'll be back. I ordered pick up for dinner. What a joy. Got just what I wanted, food was great, price was right. I'll try pickup again. read more

Tried to order the cowboy ribeye only to find they did not have it any more. So I ordered the regular 22 ounce ribeye medium rare and my wife the 10 ounce filet as medium. Both arrived under done, hers more than mine. Mine was rare as was hers. The baked potatoes were not hot enough to melt butter. The steak was decent but not up to the standard I would expect for the prices charged. Also had a bowl of gumbo. This is more a New Orleans style okra gumbo. I prefer a roux base more in a gumbo. It was flavorful but a bit sparse on the sausage and chicken. Tried to order the local strawberry cheesecake only to be told they were out, so went with the blueberry instead. Not bad, good flavor to the filling though the crust was overly soggy. All of this was at 6 pm on a Saturday. The service was excellent however. For the money I expect more out of a steakhouse. We used to go to Philip M's at the casino all the time and heard about Porter, the old GM there, opening his own place so decided to try it out. Glad we did, one of our favorite places to go! We split our time between Florida and Mississippi and often times find ourselves itching to return, Porter House being one of the top reasons. I personally love spinach dip - and it is amazing here! The chips it is served with seem homemade, super thin and perfectly crisp. I also really enjoy the fact the potato skins are scooped out in the middle, unlike most places that serve them way too "potatoey" Chicken Bryan is a classic and the burger very good - but above all - the Filet is outstanding! It rivals the best steak we have had anywhere (including outside of Mississippi), perfectly fork tender, no knife required. A classy steakhouse with a touch of down home attributes. This is a small town restaurant that plays a big game and does very well at it. Our dinner started with an order of crabcakes which by far was the BEST disappointment of the meal...We should have ordered two or three orders because they were that good. Only two cakes per order but they were definitely a flavorful app. My wife ordered the roasted red pepper salmon dish. After sampling it I would say she was pretty accurate in saying that it was one of the best prepared salmon meals she's ever had. Moist and tender, definitely will be a repeat order for her. I ventured outside of the box and tried the Creole seafood pasta platter. Disclaimer, 9 out of 10 restaurants put the least amount of scallops, shrimp and crab in these type of dishes. Porterhouse was not the exception, so I'm glad I ordered an extra skewer of shrimp. However, the one thing this dish did have going for it - it was perfectly spiced. It had a great kick to it and the best part was it wasn't too salty. Overall it was a great experience and was accompanied by really good food. Sidenote, sit on the right side if you would like it to be more quiet and family oriented. We were glad because we could hear the bar area blaring music and TVs which would have made it difficult to catch up with our local friends. read more
