I thought it was a cute place with the white and navy blue colors. You can sit outside or inside. We decided to eat inside. There was about 9 nine people that ordered and was waiting for their food. I know this because while I was trying to order my food, every 2 minutes the other customers would go up and ask about their food. I seen the disgruntled look on these people faces. I would say when it came to anything that dealt with ice cream, it was ready in minutes. But when it came to food such as burgers, fish,fries, it took about 30 mins. My take on this is this establishment needs to keep up with the demands of what they offer. I would suggest limiting the items to choices that are a quick turnaround. They thrive in making the ice cream products fast while the fast food items take 10mins or more. I did not order the Funnel cake due to the worry of waiting for 10mins or more for it. I did not have any issues because I ordered a banana split, Concrete ice cream w/strawberries and Monster cookie on a cone. My selections were ok. I think it satisfied my sweet tooth, but I think the consistency of the ice cream can be improved. If Ted Drew's and Costco is in your rotation, then there's no need to explore elsewhere.

Yesterday, Sophia my little fur-baby had a vet appointment that was just a block away. Being a good dog dad, I made sure she arrived early. In fact, we were so early I had time to kill so I made a stop at, The Cup. To my delightful surprise, they had a special on two of my favorite flavors and they were combined into one cupcake. I love lemon & raspberry. The cupcake was called, Spring Fling. It was a lemon cake, with Raspberry cream cheese frosting and a raspberry filling. The cake was moist and soft. Most importantly, the frosting was not overly sweet and did not overly dominant the cake. It was just the perfect amount of topping. The lady working the counter was attentive and made friendly conversation. I was glad to see that they are part of the, Gift-A-Meal program and that they offered Student Discounts to those who attend SIUE. That's community supporting community.

While on one of our many trips to Edwardsville to hang out with our college friends, they casually recommended we try out Annie's for some sweets and delights. Next thing I knew, we were hopping in a car with our hangovers and hitting the road. Annie's, from what I remember, is like any other town's ice cream shack that is open year round. They offer your quick but yummy food options, such as: hot dogs, custard, sundaes, pie, and various other sweets. During our visit, we all snagged a few small things. Nursing some hangovers, we all gravitated towards the greasy offerings versus the cold stuff. Chili dogs were what we picked and snacked on, except for the one friend who was feeling 110%. She got some ice cream to go. The chili dog was decent but nothing to write home about. It definitely hit the spot. As for the interior, I don't remember much about it. The little that I do recall doesn't strike me as overly impressive but also not lacking. There were tables to sit at and ample room should it be busy during the summer hours. I wish I could have more to put in this blog post but since this was the only time we came here and it was after a fun night, this is all about it. Also, sadly, my friends have moved away from Edwardsville, but that doesn't mean I won't try to swing by it again on my way to St. Louis some day. There are several new boutique bakeries that have opened in the Alton area and they're good too, but when it comes to traditional baked goods and donuts, nothing beats Duke. They are know for their donuts, my favorite is the Chocolate Long John and a sack of Donut Holes. Another local favorite they serve up is the Cream Horn. It's decadent cream wrapped in a flakey shell. I've branched out instead of getting my standard order and tried the Cinnamon Roll and Cheese Danish. A few seconds in the microwave and you've got a tasty accompaniment to your morning coffee or tea. The staff is young, and they are both friendly and professional. It was a blend of vanilla custard, fresh strawberries and hard-shell chocolate. It looked so delicious in the clear plastic cup, all three of the ingredients were swirled together. I would have taken a picture to capture the beauty, but with the high temperatures I just started to devour my sweet treat. I was sitting on their spacious patio, so it was melting fast and I was trying to eat it as quickly as it was melting. I would have preferred to been able to slowly eat it and truly enjoy the rich flavor of the custard and strawberries. However, sipping on the melted custard with the chunks of chocolate, did make for a nice treat, too. I'm coming back to try some of the food. The inside dining room was filled with senior citizen couples enjoying lunch. If it's good enough for them, I am confident I'll enjoy it, too. The young staff working the service window were friendly and very professional. They've been trained well, in providing quality customer service.

My first visit was fairly close to closing time, so I just grabbed a couple of their pastries and went on my way. One of them that I grabbed was a, Strawberry Postcard. It's a buttery house-made puff pastry with strawberry filling and vanilla glaze. I was in love after the first bite. This is one postcard I would love to receive on a daily basis. The other pastry I tried was, Jelly Donut Focaccia Bread. It's a big square (can be shared) of lightly sweetened focaccia bread filled with seedless raspberry jam and topped with vanilla bean glaze. It taste just like a jelly donut. I am not a fan of jelly donuts, but this has me rethinking my likes and dislikes. It's a winner. My second visit, has me reevaluating my choices of breakfast out. When I arrived, every table was taken They have limited seating, two deuce tables and three that can seat four diners. Hopefully when the true warmer weather arrives, they add a few tables to the outside in front of the restaurant. Since there was no table, I got my food to go and enjoyed it before starting work. I ordered their Basic Breakfast which has, two eggs any style, fried potatoes, meat of choice and either Sourdough Toast or a Biscuit. I had my eggs scrambled and since their sausage is patty, I choose that as my meat. I was impressed that the sausage was hand pressed and not the typical perfectly shaped disc. It had a true country flavor to it. I also liked how my scrambled eggs were white & yellow. So many diners whip them until they are only a light yellow. They were perfectly seasoned with salt and pepper. For my bread, I went with the Sourdough Toast, because I also ordered B&G. The toast was lightly toasted, I would have liked mine a little darker, but the Jalapeño Jelly kicked ass. I want an entire bottle of that stuff. The Biscuits and Gravy would make any Grandma or farmers wife proud. I grew up on a farm and I can tell you, these are some of the best B&G's I have ever had. The biscuits are huge, fluffy and they were drowning in a rich brown sausage milk gravy. My eyes were way bigger than my already big tummy. I felt guilty not cleaning my plates, but my taste buds still did a happy dance. Their staff is friendly, my first visit the young gentleman on my first visit was kinda shy and quiet. However, the young lady on Saturday, knew customer service and was working that front counter like a champ. Three Crows is closed Monday and Tuesday. We shared a laugh, that there are holidays celebrating food. Since I was ready here, I went ahead and enjoyed a lunch. I ordered the MJD Turkey Club. It was a typical club sandwich, but their mayo/aioli had some extra flavor to it. The bread was toast to a light golden color and had a slight crunch when you bit into it. Tomatoes were summer fresh and the bacon was crispy, so it made for a delightful lunch. My beverage of choice was an iced tea. They offered Sweet and Raspberry, but I took plain. I was impressed that at the table, they offered all four of the artificial sugars. As I can it, a Rainbow of Sweetness. The service is down home friendly. The couple who owns it, go the extra mile to make sure everyone is taken care of and is satisfied with their experience. I'll definitely be back. I gave them a heads up, July 20th is Chocolate Pecan Pie Day. That's my favorite, so I'll be coming back for a slice.
