Fantastic Dogs! They are definitely bringing flavor to the grove! You walk up and order at the window and are met by a friendly smile. I had the harvest dog, tried the hula, and my boyfriend had the riplet dog. I liked the harvest dog...loveeeed the chicken sausage and the bacon on top. I also adored the pineapple s and peppers on the hula! all the ingredients were so fresh! Since you do order at a window, make sure to wear a coat if it's cold! I sat back in my car and came out in about 20 minutes and my order was being bagged up. It would be best if they could text when the order is ready and maybe that is a feature they could add later. All in all, I really like this new restaurant and am glad to have something new so close by! i'll be back to try the philly!

If you've driven down Tower Grove Ave before Manchester, you may have noticed a window in the wall of a building that says DOG ON IT and had no idea what you were looking at. Same. I quickly looked them up and found out that they were a brand new hot dog place in the center of the Grove neighborhood- right across from Grace Meat + Three. They have a walkup window where you can check out the menu board, order, and wait for your meal to be made to order. They have 1 table on the sidewalk if you aren't taking your order to go. We ordered the Windy City Dog with mustard, relish, onions, tomatoes, sport peppers, pickle spear, and celery salt. If that doesn't scream Chicago style, then I don't know what does. We also got the Mac Dog with the creamiest mac n cheese topped with bacon. They can sure do mac n cheese right. The owner James and his brother-in-law Desmond are devoted to fresh, fast, service with quality product. As we were eating, we kept commenting on the size and quality of the all-beef hot dog. They also have chicken or vegan dogs if you prefer something different.

Let me just get this out there right off the bat. I am not a hot dog person. Have had a deep aversion to them since I was a kid and still do my very best to completely avoid any type of linked meat. Yes there's a story. No we don't have to unpack it on the Dog On It Yelp page. But the reason I bring that point up is because today I had a hot dog from Dog On It for lunch, and... well... I might just be turning over a new leaf thanks to this amazing local business' dedication to redefining what a hot dog is! The menu offered by this window service shop is MASSIVE. And the cool part about it is the fact that the hot dogs on the Dog On It menu are just so creative. Today I dropped by and snagged the Harvest Dog, which is the December monthly special. The main reason I gave this bad boy from Dog On It a chance was because it featured an apple chicken link. In my mind I imagined it wouldn't taste like a traditional frank you get at Busch Stadium or take off a roller in QT. And Dog On It's Harvest Dog CERTAINLY was not anything like it. This gourmet creation was so thick. I was surprised to see a knife and fork in my to-go bag, but definitely needed them to slice through the wiener (can i use that word on Yelp without getting flagged?? Guess we'll see.) Anyway, I woofed down this tasty fall-themed treat from Dog On It in the blink of an eye. So excited to drop by Dog On It again soon to try another of their gourmet hot dogs. Really looking forward to seeing the incredible owners of Dog On It enjoy SO much success. You can taste their passion in each bite.

Gourmet hot dogs served in the grove. The ordering window isn't actually on Manchester, it's just off the corner at Manchester and Tower Grove Ave. You order at the window. There is no building to walk into so only outdoor seating. Perfect if you are looking for something easy, quick or on the go. Everyone was super friendly and the dogs were cooked perfectly!

Came over to try the new dog of the month and it was so good! It consisted of mixed peppers, onions, jalapeños then added beans, bacon, guac and topped with mustard! Definitely one people should come by for! This dog doesn't quite got s name for it yet

Hot dogs were really good here. I liked the one with Fritos and chili and top that was great. Also the dog with jalapeños on it was very tasty. Located off the main strip in the grove.

Ooh! So the window is actually 4300b - it's just around the corner from the clothing boutique. We got the Hula Dog, the Philly Dog, the Mac Dog, and the Frito Dog, and they were all delicious. There were four of us and one dog (and some fries) were enough for each of us to feel really full and satisfied. I had the Hula Dog, which is 100% beef hot dog with pineapple and mango on - the pineapple was perfectly grilled, and the mango was still a little firm, and absolutely perfect in my opinion. Really glad we got the chance to eat here, will definitely be back next time I'm in town!

Hi. Are there any vegan-friendly options?

I can't confirm myself, but one reviewer said they had chicken and vegan dogs as well. Can't see it displayed on the menu photo though.

This place is much more of a hole in the wall than you'd imagine. I parked right out front, and I…read morestill had a hard time finding it. A guy from my running group asked me which way it was, and I was like, "Uh, I think it's that way." A few places on this strip all have similar awnings. I thought I was lucky finding such a good spot. By the time I was done with my run, maybe an hour later, all of Clayton was an absolute ghost town. It makes me wonder what they'd have to put here to get people to visit Clayton during the evening, a 7 Brew? Inside is more along the lines of a bar, with a number of beers on tap and decor that may have been purchased from a Kohl's. I appreciated the way they had the beers on tap written on the wall in ginormous fonts, and I'm sure the elderly are similarly appreciative. Sometimes you ask these waiters what beers they have on tap and they act like they're doing you a favor by listing them. I asked this hillbilly they've got waiting tables at the Syberg's over on Dorsett what beers they have on tap, and he just said they have 30 of them. Uh, thanks? I wonder if he counted them. I went with the 4 Hands Incarnation, which I have at least once a week, because I get it for free. It seemed less "high gravity" than it does when you get it in the tall cans.Hmm... Usually, my move at these burger places is to order a bacon cheeseburger or a specialty burger that has bacon on it. 5 Star had such a burger listed first on their menu, making my choice easy enough. I toyed with the idea of ordering the Green Chile Cheeseburger, but not seriously. I wasn't sure what the green chiles would taste like, and what if they turned out to be gross? The Blue Ribbon Burger comes with bacon, port-braised onions and Gorgonzola cheese, along with LTOP. No, that's not a typo. You get thinly sliced red onions in addition to the port-braised onions. It feels weirdly generous of them, even though they're just onions, and all the fresh toppings are of a seemingly high quality. I was more ambivalent about the toppings specific to the Blue Ribbon Burger. I didn't dislike them, but I was less impressed by them than I would have expected. The bacon was good, but it was in crumbles and I think I would have liked it more if it were in thick, crispy strips. No Diddy. The cheese was either not flavorful enough or in not abundant enough quantity to be much of a factor. The onions, on the other hand, provided a nice flavor kick--less tart than I expected, more along the lines of the onions in a french onion soup. The fries were kinda whatever. They were good, being french fries and all, but not as gourmet as the menu would have you think. And they don't give you very many of them, if you get the regular serving. Weirdly, the regular serving doesn't cost much money, by Brandon-era standards, but the serving-size is decidedly skimpy. Why not just charge a normal amount and give you a normal quantity? Even the large won't exactly break the bank. I went with the small because I just wanted to see what they were like, for the sake of citizen food journalism. You're welcome.

However, we soon discovered the restaurant was short staffed and servers were in the deep weeds. It took a very long time to order water and drinks and an equally long time to receive them. In fact, we were very close to leaving, which is saying a lot since I've worked in restaurants for years. But this is not a negative review. As those who know, know....5 Star's kitchen crew saved the day by jumping right on our food order and getting us served quickly. Lynne enjoyed the always delicious Blue Ribbon burger...think gorganzola, bacon and port braised onions (aaahhh, sorry, I may have drooled a bit there). I tried the Burger-Of-The-Month, which was not actually a burger, but a sandwich And not just any sandwich, a classic Rueben. I love a good Rueben and this 5-Star version did not disappoint....loads of moist corned beef (yes, I said moist), sauerkraut, Thousand Island dressing on marbled Rye! We also split the wonderful 5-Star Salad and a basket of Mixed Fries (combo of seasoned fries and sweet potato fries). This would have been a 3-Star review based on service but the food and drink saved the night!
