Saturday. My son's myself and their step-dad were heading back from art in bloom at the stl art museum and decided to stop in at steves for a dog and fries. I tried the original stl dog for a change with the original bun for $9.10. The dog had banana peppers, green peppers and bacon and cheese on it. I need to start reading whats on things closer as I am not a bacon fan. The dog was quite tasty despite the bacon. I topped it off with a rootbeer that was ok. My husband went in to get it a few minutes before it was supposed to be ready. They finished it up and handed it to my husband who brought it directly to our table. Our food was cool. It wasn't even room temp. Our friends had ordered their food separately and theirs was also not warm, let alone hot. I did get pretzel bites with a side of cheese sauce and it was warm, but should have been warmer. We ordered from my husband's phone and he got a message asking how things were. He told them and they said sorry and gave him a $10 off coupon. We won't be using it. If everything was made to order and made fresh, how was it not even warm? This is a new location that recently opened up and I've been excited to try it. I love a good chili dog and theirs did not disappoint. The hotdog itself has a slight smokey taste to it that went well with the chili, the chili is pretty mild so if you don't like a lot of spice this is a good choice! I did the meal deal which included fries and a fountain drink, the fries were okay (just your typical crinkle cut). I'm looking forward to coming back and trying their hotdog flight! I'm not a regular consumer of hot dogs but decided to check this place out since they showed up on the inKind App. Well, this place was pretty good. Tried a St Louis style and their version of the Chicago style. Personally, I preferred the freshness of Chicago. St Louis was a bit too "heavy" for my tastes but I can appreciate the massive amounts of flavor. It is not easy to find a good hotdog in St Louis. Steve's in Chesterfield is a great addition. The restaurant is really nice with kind of a diner feel. The surrounds venue is also great. My favorite hotdog in St Louis is the pastrami dog at Busch Stadium on cardinals home games. Super fresh, small fluffy bun, quality weiner with amazing pastrami topping. Well drained sauerkraut, please. I hadn't found this anywhere else in St Louis or in my global travels. Some people swear by the fancy Obregon, Sonora - Mexico fancy hot dogs. They are not my super fave. Sometimes all a man really needs is a solid Chicago dog, that is where Steve's helps. They don't call it a Chicago hot dog, but it is a jumbo version. I sometimes choose to pretzel bun, for fun. I am a snob about coney dogs, chili & cheese. Sometimes with onions and mustard. Steve, Unfortunately for my taste, I don't want beans on my coney. I anyone is listening at Steve's, I like a greasy meat sauce like Ray's Brand, Coney Hot Dog Sauce with Beef. Fine shredded cheddar cheese, please. Steve, please consider a "hot dog chili sauce" without beans. Lastly when it comes to coney's, bigger isn't better, it is worse.. I would much prefer to eat 3 small coney's than one Jumbo. The Hawaii 5-0 was my favorite. It was very different. Toppings I never would think to put on a hotdog. I love the design of the restaurant it is very cute. It has a decent amount of seating but there is tons outside. I do wish the Chicago dog was served on a poppyseed bun. I also wish there was an option for a turkey dog, that would be different.
