Honestly hard to judge the bagel with lox and creamcheese on it but showed up around 10am on a Monday and I was the only one. The place was "friend"ly and service was prompt. Everyone seemed really nice. Bagel sandwich was good and stuffed. By the time I left the place had about 5-6 mommies with lids waiting for their bagels. Good standard bagel place that was clean and within walking distance of independence mall where my hotel was located! Very clean and definitely seemed to have a strong following in the neighborhood. Ambiance: lots of Queen and Madonna music.

Classic Lox

I got the classic lox bagel on an everything. This was my first time the worker recommended it to be un toasted because he said they were fresh- that's my kinda bagel!! Delicious flavor and you can taste that they boil them in beer, so interesting! Heavy on the cream cheese, good crunchy toppings and fresh fish. A solid solid choice for bagel.

Bacon, egg and cheese on an everything bagel.

Friendly staff and the bagel sandwich was delicious! From out of town and would recommend.

This place is poppin on the weekends! I live close enough to walk here but parking isn't great with the time you wait on weekends, so I suggest finding parking before or after this area on the street or a side street! Staff are friendly and store has a very clean modern look. I wish they had more flavors of bagels just because I'm a Bagel-connoisseur but they all are great and cream cheese is PERFECTION if you like the REAL stuff (I'm obsessed and have been on the hunt for good cream cheese) if you prefer the corporate harder cream cheese then just buy the bagels and DIY. Bagels were still soft 3-4 days after I bought them (I bought a larger cream cheese and took it home with me). I'm a fan, sorry I didn't get any pictures - camera did not eat first!

Everything bacon egg cheese bagel

I thoroughly enjoyed the bacon, egg, and cheese on an everything bagel! The "everything" forms a delicious crust atop a bagel with excellent chew. The egg is fluffy and perfectly moist, while the spicy mayo compliments all parts well. I would've given 5 stars were it not for a $5 refill on an iced coffee :( Seems rather petty for a customer who just dropped a $5 tip on top of a breakfast sandwich. Might wanna rethink this PSB.

Have stopped at this bagel shop a few times over the past two years and sometimes thought the bagels felt old and hard to chew. Today, we gave it another try and it was the best bagel I've had so far in Philadelphia! Not sure if they changed something about the cooking process or what, but the bagel was just the right amount of toasted while still soft to chew. They have multiple options for bagels and cream cheese. I got the egg bagel with plain cream cheese which was delicious and my husband got the cinnamon raisin bagel with strawberry cream cheese. They definitely aren't shy with the cream cheese and each bagel was loaded with it. The shop is always crowded, but I feel like they always get the bagels/sandwiches out pretty quickly! Definitely recommend!

Bacon egg & cheese

This bagel was solid- the bagel itself has good flavor and texture. The only miss is the sandwich part, we need to try a regular bagel with butter or cream cheese. The egg is a bit thick and could have more bacon... something about the ratio is off. However, the staff is very friendly as as mentioned the bagel itself is good. We will be back but to try something else.

Fantastic bagels, excellent customer service. These guys really love what they do. Definitely recommend the Zataar bagel.

Average bagels, high prices, Sloooow service. I would not come here before work unless I'm real early.

Good bagels and coffee. Super slow service. They lost my order between the counter and prep area (10 feet) and we waited forever.

Uncoordinated staff, expect to wait and have your order occasionally messed up. It's good when they get it right though

Love seeing a positive face in the morning! I orders a BEC on sea salt rosemary-- my goto. Bagels were out in ~5 minutes, and it was a delicious bit to eat with coffee later on. The shop here is pick-up only, and on some mornings when I've visited especially in the winter, it's kind of painful to wait inside because it started to get a bit cramped. More just a heads up but not a piece of feedback though since their lot is pretty small. If you're grabbing breakfast in the Rittenhouse area, this is nice option for you! Just know that you'll have to take it to-go and eat it elsewhere.

The everything bagel seasoning was very good but the bagel was mediocre. The bagel was loaded with strawberry cream cheese which had good flavor. The others had regular bagels and had better reviews of the bagels. A couple egg sandwiches were described as being "good" and a plain bagel with cream cheese was given similar review. I'm not sure it's the kind of bagel shop that I would go racing back to at any point but it was decent. A bright light was how good the staff was to work with in terms of being friendly while placing an order. Probably brought this review from a 3 to a 4 based upon the staff interaction.

When I order a bagel,…read moreI'll tell them the type of bagel, whether I want it toasted (always yes for me), the type of cream cheese (scallion vegan cream cheese), and then any additions that I want (usually tomato and onion). When ordering coffee, I'll let them know what I want (drip coffee) with whatever kind of milk (with heavy oat milk enough to change colour) and sweetener (with sugar please). Then you let them know any sides you want. I may or may not be saying it a bit quickly, because I'm half awake, and running on auto pilot, because I've lived in the Northeast for so long. The absolutely delightful lady behind the counter got it all recorded, fired, and sorted as and when it was coming out of my mouth. Confirmed everything, collected my payment, and we kept it pumping. As soon as the coffee was ready, called me over to grab it, because it was chilly and rainy while we waited. When one of the items I was ordering was taking a long time, the staff let me know that the item was taking a while longer than expected to finish cooking. My food came out perfectly done. Also, when they pass you your food, they confirm how many things you're ordering to make sure you get all your stuff. This operation is efficient, fast, and friendly. It's inexpensive for what you're getting. Coffee is excellent. Bagels have that snappy exterior, and chewy insides. Hash browns are crisp and piping hot. Coffee is rich and dark. Genuinely, you can't have any complaints when everything is done just right.

I went to Middle Child a few weeks ago just after 3, only to find it closes at 3. Today I returned, around 1, and there was a good crowd there having lunch. I ordered the Surfer, and the Hash Brown Potatoes. The Surfer is Middle Child's most popular sandwich. It's made on a Ciabatta bun, and has a thick layering of tender, lean, House Turkey breast, with melty Swiss cheese, arugula, blueberry chutney, and Duke's mayo. It's hard to describe just how delicious this sandwich was. My biggest concern was the Ciabatta bun - it's not one of my favorites, as I've found them to be tough and difficult to bite through. My fears were quickly put to rest after the first bite! The bun had a slightly crispy exterior - and when I followed through with my first bite, the tender, soft interior of the Ciabatta was a pleasant surprise. In fact, it complemented the thick savory Turkey, arugula, chutney and mayo! It was one of the best Turkey sandwiches I've had. Now, if that wasn't enough, don't forget, I ordered the Hash Brown Potatoes. It said Hash Browns on the blackboard, see attached picture, but these 'weren't your Mama's hash browns'! They are described online as Latka'd Hash Browns. They are thick crispy squares that combine a potato pancake latke with a hash brown texture. The interior reminded me of my mother's potato kugel, which I still reminisce about. In one word, those fried crispy potato squares were outstanding. It's 'a must try' and goes so well with the Surfer! Last, but not least, the Limeade! It was so refreshing! Not too tart, not too sweet... just right! I'll be returning to Middle Child in the not too distant future!

Got the Surfer sandwich because a coworker kept telling me to try it. Blueberry chutney with turkey…read moresounded weird to me at first, like why would you do that, but a few bites in it kind of clicked. Turkey was tender, bread (ciabatta I think?) held together fine even though the sandwich was pretty loaded. Definitely a lean-over-the-plate kind of sandwich, got some chutney on my fingers, but that's kind of expected with a sandwich like this I guess. Also got one of the latke hash browns on the side and that thing didn't last long at all - crispy outside, soft in the middle, I finished it before I was even halfway through my sandwich. Might've been the better item honestly, don't tell the sandwich that.
