Egg bacon cheddar everything bagel
Susan B.

Every day we passed by this shop, I smelled bacon and had to try one of the bagels with it! Great service, the guys were personable and helpful! I picked the everything bagel with egg, bacon, and cheddar cheese - OMGoodness! So delicious! We took it back to the apartment but the area inside was nice with high top stools at counters. Go get a bagel (with bacon)!

Great homemade bagels. The ingredients are so fresh and tasty. You can order in advance and pick up to avoid the wait. Some bagels are not available every day. Staff is nice and helpful!

Bagel compared to 24 oz coffee

This is the smallest bagel i've ever had It's fine if they're this small but the price should be reduced for the size!

Delectable delight - Lox Bagel Sandwich! The Lox Bagel Sandwich is my favorite delight in this shop - blending savory lox, scallion cream cheese, crunchy red onions on toasted bagel. Each bite offers a perfect balance of flavors and textures, making it an unforgettable breakfast or brunch option.whether you are a fan of smoked or simply enjoy a well-crafted sandwich, the Lox Bagel Sandwich is sure to satisfy your craving. Treat yourself to this iconic creation and prepare to be delighted.

I'd suggest ordering online so you don't have to wait. The wait is too long, the breakfast rush hour should have been over with. We swung by around 11:15am on a Saturday and they only had blueberry and everything bagels left. For a bagel shop that's been open for awhile, they should be able to forecast how many bagels need to be made for a Saturday. The bagel itself, very small. The bagels are also dense and hard. I recognize we came later in the morning but as a bagel spot, the bagels should be fresh and soft throughout the whole time the shop is open. Lox #2 - generous with toppings, the dill was fresh and ample. The slice of radish was thick and added a nice crunch. Bagel itself, once again, hard pass. Pizza bagel- tomato sauce with melted cheese on top. I thought this bagel would be more creative. Maybe a slice off fresh mozzarella in between cream cheese with a pesto spread??? Coffee- there are 25 other coffee shops walking distance that are much better! $27 for two bagels and a coffee, not worth it.

Completed an online order and paid online. My order was ready not to long afterwards. The staff member greeted me with a smile and a friendly good morning. I ordered a bagel with the fresh peach jam and it was really tasty and good. I also had a half of the white fish sandwich on a plain bagel. That was really tasty, I've never had this type of sandwich before. Price is a bit pricy, a bacon egg and cheese sandwich on a bagel was $8

I think this place only got such high reviews because it is the only bagel spot in the area. Growing up in NJ, I guess I just have higher standards for bagels and customer service. I ordered a bagel with smoked salmon cream cheese, which I assumed would only take a couple minutes to slab some cream cheese on a bagel. But I ended up standing outside and waiting for close to 30 minutes. Bagels are small and the cream cheese was "smoked salmon flavored." It did not have any actual pieces of lox which was so disappointing for the price. I'd definitely recommend ordering online for pickup to avoid the long wait.

Cute little bagel shop, best in fishtown. Workers are always so nice and quick. Good variety of CC flavors to choose from!

Classic Lox Sandwich

I stopped by with some friends on a beautiful Saturday morning. The front door was locked but they were taking orders from their take out window. I ordered a classic lox sandwich on a toasted everything. The bagel had a nice crust with a chewy inside. They were a little smaller than I expected. Don't forget to ask to get it toasted if you're into that. There was ample scrumptious lox, red onions and cucumbers. Would definitely stop by if you're in the area. Order online ahead of time to skip the line; I did have to wait a little for my sandwich

Wheat Bagel with Cream Cheese ~$3

Philly Style Bagels is a take out-only place. Retail space is small, no chairs, no space to linger for too long. Line forms quickly. The ovens are at the front of the establishment so you'll see your bagels being baked fresh. That being said, it is HOT! They have a small portable AC, but definitely cannot overpower their ovens! So you should want to get out of that heat anyway. I was disappointed that they don't have egg breakfast sandwiches.. most items are vegan...they have bacon, but that may be vegan bacon too? Not 100% sure. Cashier is great, friendly, good conversation, etc. Was worried about a minimum for credit card, but that's not a problem here! No minimum! I ordered a wheat bagel and regular cream cheese (boring, I know!). It was very round, small, and overly stuffed with cream cheese (I see this as a pro/con, but just wipe it if it's too much for you!). Flavor was as expected, texture was very crisp. Price is reasonable. Good choice for a quick morning bite.

Cinnamon raisin bagel. A lot of raisins
Retna S.

The bagel is relatively small. The outside is crusty, you can hear the crunch when you bite it. It's a chewy kind of bagel. I had cinnamon raisin and it has a lot of raisin. It's really good. They are generous with the toppings. The poppyseed is really covered with it and so is the everything kind.

Love seeing a positive face in the morning! I orders a BEC on sea salt rosemary-- my goto. Bagels were out in ~5 minutes, and it was a delicious bit to eat with coffee later on. The shop here is pick-up only, and on some mornings when I've visited especially in the winter, it's kind of painful to wait inside because it started to get a bit cramped. More just a heads up but not a piece of feedback though since their lot is pretty small. If you're grabbing breakfast in the Rittenhouse area, this is nice option for you! Just know that you'll have to take it to-go and eat it elsewhere.

The everything bagel seasoning was very good but the bagel was mediocre. The bagel was loaded with strawberry cream cheese which had good flavor. The others had regular bagels and had better reviews of the bagels. A couple egg sandwiches were described as being "good" and a plain bagel with cream cheese was given similar review. I'm not sure it's the kind of bagel shop that I would go racing back to at any point but it was decent. A bright light was how good the staff was to work with in terms of being friendly while placing an order. Probably brought this review from a 3 to a 4 based upon the staff interaction.

When I order a bagel,…read moreI'll tell them the type of bagel, whether I want it toasted (always yes for me), the type of cream cheese (scallion vegan cream cheese), and then any additions that I want (usually tomato and onion). When ordering coffee, I'll let them know what I want (drip coffee) with whatever kind of milk (with heavy oat milk enough to change colour) and sweetener (with sugar please). Then you let them know any sides you want. I may or may not be saying it a bit quickly, because I'm half awake, and running on auto pilot, because I've lived in the Northeast for so long. The absolutely delightful lady behind the counter got it all recorded, fired, and sorted as and when it was coming out of my mouth. Confirmed everything, collected my payment, and we kept it pumping. As soon as the coffee was ready, called me over to grab it, because it was chilly and rainy while we waited. When one of the items I was ordering was taking a long time, the staff let me know that the item was taking a while longer than expected to finish cooking. My food came out perfectly done. Also, when they pass you your food, they confirm how many things you're ordering to make sure you get all your stuff. This operation is efficient, fast, and friendly. It's inexpensive for what you're getting. Coffee is excellent. Bagels have that snappy exterior, and chewy insides. Hash browns are crisp and piping hot. Coffee is rich and dark. Genuinely, you can't have any complaints when everything is done just right.

I went to Middle Child a few weeks ago just after 3, only to find it closes at 3. Today I returned, around 1, and there was a good crowd there having lunch. I ordered the Surfer, and the Hash Brown Potatoes. The Surfer is Middle Child's most popular sandwich. It's made on a Ciabatta bun, and has a thick layering of tender, lean, House Turkey breast, with melty Swiss cheese, arugula, blueberry chutney, and Duke's mayo. It's hard to describe just how delicious this sandwich was. My biggest concern was the Ciabatta bun - it's not one of my favorites, as I've found them to be tough and difficult to bite through. My fears were quickly put to rest after the first bite! The bun had a slightly crispy exterior - and when I followed through with my first bite, the tender, soft interior of the Ciabatta was a pleasant surprise. In fact, it complemented the thick savory Turkey, arugula, chutney and mayo! It was one of the best Turkey sandwiches I've had. Now, if that wasn't enough, don't forget, I ordered the Hash Brown Potatoes. It said Hash Browns on the blackboard, see attached picture, but these 'weren't your Mama's hash browns'! They are described online as Latka'd Hash Browns. They are thick crispy squares that combine a potato pancake latke with a hash brown texture. The interior reminded me of my mother's potato kugel, which I still reminisce about. In one word, those fried crispy potato squares were outstanding. It's 'a must try' and goes so well with the Surfer! Last, but not least, the Limeade! It was so refreshing! Not too tart, not too sweet... just right! I'll be returning to Middle Child in the not too distant future!

Blueberry chutney with turkey…read moresounded weird to me at first, like why would you do that, but a few bites in it kind of clicked. Turkey was tender, bread (ciabatta I think?) held together fine even though the sandwich was pretty loaded. Definitely a lean-over-the-plate kind of sandwich, got some chutney on my fingers, but that's kind of expected with a sandwich like this I guess. Also got one of the latke hash browns on the side and that thing didn't last long at all - crispy outside, soft in the middle, I finished it before I was even halfway through my sandwich. Might've been the better item honestly, don't tell the sandwich that.
