This is a bizarre review to write, because they're not actually working for me at the moment. My office is across the street from where the work is happening (Garfield Place in Park Slope). I've been watching as a crane took what I assume is an HVAC unit up to the top of a building, and swapped out the old one. First of all, the crane operation was spectacular to watch, but that's not why I'm writing (I assume that's a subcontractor anyway). I'm writing because, where it's a nice day, I've had my window open, and therefore was listening as the two Phil's employees (hell, maybe one of them is Phil?) engaged with people parking their cars and needing to move for alternate-side-parking today. The two of them were so kind and professional asking people gently to move, guiding cars, figuring out where the best place to go was for each car to facilitate both their parking and the crane's. I don't know, there's just something about these two that really touched me - the way they do their job effectively and kindly at the same time. We are lacking in kindness right now in the US. I just thought I'd put this into the ether, and if I ever need plumbing/AC work done at my condo, it'll be the first company I call!! read more

So far it's been almost a month now that they took the part of AC that needs to be replaced, my landlord and I keep following up week after week and they always come up with excuses. This is a place a of business, we didn't have AC on hot summer days few weeks ago and people were complaining, not to mention that we have to mop the water on the floor whenever the AC is in use in the meantime while waiting for the part to be installed. read more

Phil, the owner, called me to explain what happened. Unfortunately, he ended up blaming me. He told me his employee said I wasn't at home for the appointment. This is the guy who was sitting in his car, writing on his hand when I headed out to work 30 minutes after my window expired. Phil and I went around and around about this. He called me back and left a voice message saying he would give me a refund. I appreciated that, since his company was unable to fulfill their end of the deal. Ordeal over. Here's my favorite part: I received my check with Christian propaganda in it. Phil wrote a note and signed it "God bless you" and was gracious enough to also throw in a tiny pamphlet that says: "Calvary The Place of Peace and Pardon Calvary, where we see God's love at its best, and man's sin at its worst. Calvary, where the son of God died, in order that the sons of men may live forever....." Then there are lots of neato bible quotes. I think this is hilarious, because all this time I thought Phil's AC was selling the service of fixing AC units and heaters. No friends, I was wrong. They're pedaling jesus. This reminds me of the weird jesus freaks on that Gordon Ramsey show. Did anyone catch that one. They were insane. I guess Phil is implying that I have sinned and I should get jesusy in order to be a better customer next time. I don't even know what to say. I guess if you want jesus and whispers to keep your AC runnin smoothly, call Phil. If you want reliable, non-bible-thumpin-cuckoos (like...oh I don't know...regular mechanics) call someone else. Phil and his workers are by far the best. I've had several other company's over to check out my heating system and they gave me some bs. His worker was over the next day and the problem was repaired within an hr when others said it could be done without replacing the whole unit. read more

We were referred to Phil's by his old partner when we learned that our heat stopped working and the temperature outside began to drop. That was in early november. Since then, they have been to my house 3 times, charged me twice, and still have not fixed the problem. Tonight, after discovering that my heat went out AGAIN, we called an emergency repair service from a different company. Phils dispatches young and totally inexperienced guys who tinker around, then call back for instructions. This happens repeatedly. I imagine this has something to do with why they are unable to fix the problem. You would think that 3 visits, telling them that the heat keeps shutting off, would be enough to at least begin diagnosing the issue, even if the issue is complex. Instead we had guys who claimed they "fixed it" when they actually did nothing of the sort. Total waste of money and time. Phil's staff did not seem to particularly care about this failure, and acted as if we were inconveniencing them by calling back and trying to get this sorted. Will never use this service again, so beyond frustrated at the quality of service and customer care. read more

Customer service is horrible, I was calling for information regarding service agreements and the lady on the phone told me to call back tomorrow because she was not interested in answering my question today. He responded quickly to questions throughout the process, and his work was meticulous. Because of the quality of his work we will also use him to install 2 ductless AC units. I don't write a ton of reviews because who has time for that!? But I wanted to give credit where it's due. I haven't had heat in my place because of a cracked pipe (another company told me I'd leak carbon monoxide if I ran it). So I kept trying to get that other company to give me a quote to repair it (they made it sound like a huge job). No one got back to me after several attempts so I turned to Phil's. After a couple of calls and some emailed photos, Phil himself came by and sent someone the next morning. Matt was super friendly and professional and (after listening to my concerns at least three times) made sure everything was fixed up correctly. So relieved that they were able to come to the rescue and I didn't feel like anyone was trying to get me to pay for a huge job when it wasn't necessary. Try Phil's first! read more

i had my gas valve replace in my old furnace . i was away for the weekend and found gas smell in my basement and upstair i called national grid and they came within 10 min (sunday) after i reported smelling a strong odor of gas..they said that the gas screw was not tighten in several places...( his meter was ringing like crazy ) and found leaking gas and told me that if he is unable to tighten them than they would have to shut off my gas and that i would have to call back the technician that did the repair the next day....luckily he was able to tighten the screws in several places.. next morning i call phil's air conditioning and told them that what has happened thank goodness i can not image the worst would have happened if we were at home and was asleep with the gas leak...... by the way phil's air condition tech assured me that there is no gas leak several time when i ask him after the repair was done read more
