(Relatively speaking). It's easy to drive by this place but if you see a sign that says Smith River Kayaks, do yourself a favor and stop there, especially if you're looking for a good time. You'll be greeted by one of the coolest kinds of people you'll ever meet, the guy that runs the joint. He very informative, funny, and is great at asking questions to figure exactly where your skill level is. We did about a 5 and a half hour kayak down the smith river through some smooth waters, And some not so smooth 101 rapids. We enjoyed every last bit of it, the view was beautiful most of the ride down and it felt like a massive adventure. Towards the end of the trip we even got to see some otters and some river seals! Prices were very good compared to some of the other places we looked at and honestly feel like we wouldn't have gotten the same experience elsewhere and mainly because all other places are missing one key ingredient. The man that runs this show, he's a one of a kind character you only meet one in a life time. He was a blast to be around and a blast to listen to. He made the whole experience seamless and incredibly rewarding. We will definitely be returning next time we return to Crescent City!

He gets everything arranged, gets you fitted with the right bike, and sends you out with a guide to get you through the forest on bikes. The guide we had today was Josh and he was very good! ( after biking he added his sweet dog, Annie, to the group for the rafting section!) along our biking he told us some fun facts about the Redwood Trees and some exotic plants! Our biking section of the day was GREAT! It is actually a perfect ride you start on pavement and then you end up on a gravel road with some uphills and some downhill but nothing super steep allowing you to take in the scenery. Can the forest be any more beautiful!! The trees are enormous!! Some have been burned, some struck by lighting, some both!! But they are still standing! After biking we drove to the Smith river where they laid out a great lunch! After lunch we geared up for river rafting down the Smith River, the only un-dammed river in California! It is spectacularly clear! Since we were here in June, the river was not super deep, but we did have some fun rapids and some really nice open spaces that were very mellow, allowing you to take in the scenery! For those more daring there is a stop where you can jump off rocks into the water. The rafting portion lasted about 2 to 3 hours. Our entire day started at 9:30 and we were done around 4 PM. I thought it was a fantastic way to spend the day! I highly recommend them.

I went hiking here last weekend, and it honestly took my breath away…read more As a SoCal girl now living in NorCal, I've made it my mission to explore as much as I can around this beautiful state, and Jedediah Smith Redwoods completely stole my heart. These trees are absolutely massive, walking among them feels like stepping into another world. The light, the air, the silence... everything feels calm, ancient, and sacred. The trails are super well maintained, the weather was perfect, and there was plenty of parking even though it was busy. The roads and trails are a bit narrow, but honestly, that just adds to the charm. The river that runs through the park is crystal-clear and peaceful a perfect little spot to stop and take it all in. Standing next to those giant redwoods makes you realize how tiny you are in the best possible way. It's humbling and magical at the same time If you're driving from Eureka toward Crescent City, the entire drive is breathtaking, every curve along the coast looks like a postcard. You'll even pass through Elk Valley, and oh my god, there are actual elks just hanging out by the side of the road! They're so beautiful and so used to seeing people; it felt like nature welcoming you in. If you love hiking, nature, or just want to feel grounded and amazed, this place is a must. California, you really outdid yourself with this one.

The Bout Time holds up to 6, but we were comfortable with 5 guys who travelled to Brookings from Southern Calif to northern Oregon. This time, Steve took the Lighthouse Trip $255 - an all day excursion to the light house, 12 miles off shore near Crescent City, CA. It was a beautiful sunny day with almost no wind out in the ocean. I dropped Steve off at the harbor at 6:15am, expecting to have the ENTIRE day to myself until, at 12:20pm, Steve texted me and said to get ready to come pick him up because everyone hit their limit and they were already heading back! I had just started a reply to ask if he got the "elusive" halibut (just joking), and before I could hit send, he texted me to let me know - YES - he caught a halibut! It weighed 35lbs and Steve said he arms were so tired from landing it, that he could barely hold it up for the picks (I will try to attach to this review later)! I joined them at the boat once it docked and with Matt's assistance, we watched Captain Rich expertly clean and filet all of the fish for us (one guy caught a 5' Wolf Eel, which he shared portions of with the rest of the crew. We haven't tried eating this yet, but are looking forward to it). Turns out that halibut has 4 filets, not just the normal 2, so we gave Captain Rich and Matt of of them to take home. We dropped the rest of the fish (over 21 pounds of Halibut, Ling Cod and Rockfish) at the local fish store in the harbor and they quickly vacuum sealed it for us for the trip home. While waiting for the fish, I noticed that the current retail price of halibut was $32.95 per pound, so I think we got our money's worth on this trip!!! We're here for 2 weeks so Steve has already booked a second reservation with Rich for another fishing trip before we leave. You won't be disappointed going fishing with Captain Rich and Matt - they know so much about all of the fish in the area (really interesting info) and you can just tell, every time they start to talk about the boat and this harbor, they LOVE to fish!!!!

We went out fishing until 10:00 and the Captain said reel-in and we headed back to the dock. Not one person got their limit. I got 4 blacks my husband got two blacks 2 canaries and 2 blue's another man got 2 cod 2blacks and 1 blue. The limit is 10 person. When we got back to the dock the captain kept 8 blacks for himself. We were charged for a full day and only fished for 2 hours and travel time was 30 minutes each way. I feel totally ripped off. Don't go with Tally Ho II. He screwed all of us over. SUCH A RIPOFF!!!
