Got to hand it to phil's, they make one hella good cup of coffee. Love their house blend straight up, and the mint mojito for something sweet. Their coffee beans are carefully sorted and roasted with a low acidity roast. It's robust and full flavored, definately a great roast. Every weekend for the past 3 months I've made a pilgrimage to Philz, finding some way to fit a visit into my day at least once on the weekends. I love the light roasts and they leave me super coffee-buzzed. Philz really makes their café experience something special with their balanced coffee blends...even including fresh herbs and (I think) spices. Their signature move, mint leaves in the brewed coffee is surprisingly delicious. My favorites so far are the Philharmonic, Greater Alarm, and of course the Mint Mojito iced coffee. I hope they'll open a location closer to my house...until then I'll consider it a super special weekend treat. read more

This Philz is a lot less busy than the other Philz in the surrounding area, which I enjoy. That means j have a guaranteed seat inside if I want to sit down and enjoy my coffee. Less busy doesn't necessarily mean less noise. This Philz PlayStation music a little louder than most so I have to plug in my ear buds if I want to work in peace. The atmosphere is chill and relaxing. I also like the fact that they have a surge protector so that everyone can charge their laptops at the same time. The only improvement I could recommend is that they stay open later. I had to go to the Whole Foods cafe across the steer so that I could work throughout the rest of the night. The bathroom is clean and the tidy up most of the cafe. Good environment to get work done. read more

I was never a regular coffee drinker until I was introduced to Philz. Now I can't start my morning without it. When I first started going to Philz, I started with the Mint mojito. The coffee is the right amount of sweetness and mintiness. However, after a few weeks, I wanted to switch to something stronger to help me through the long mornings. That's when I switched to Tesora. Tesora is stronger, but still has the creaminess compared to the mint mojito. The flavor is more of a chocolate/caramel taste. This specific location is great too since it's not as busy as the other locations I've been to. You can also order ahead of time so your coffee is waiting for you once you get there. read more

Found this location by accident. Typical Philz Coffee where "Phil's Way" varies from barista to barista. Plenty of sittings, and lot of students working on projects there. Parking is tricky because the lot is really small, but there are street parking avail. read more

The coffees here are really good. I'm not exactly a coffee connoisseur, but I do know bad coffee from good coffee! I've had one of their decaf coffees before with a little bit of cream and sugar, and it was probably one of the best coffees I've had (not counting mochas, lattes, etc., just plain ol' coffee). This time, I decided to try their mint mojito iced coffee and it was absolutely delicious! Slightly minty and just great. I'd definitely come back to get it again and again! read more

Philz is such fun! The Berkeley location has such a great vibe and fun people. The cool industrial modern decor is roomy, but can get crowded at times. There are nice couches to relax on, tables inside and out and a long working table with outlets for computers. The coffee is also spectacular. Philz uses such a unique method of brewing; every single beverage is truly hand-crafted. They have a fun menu and a great selection of light to dark roasts. Their snacks and bagels are also delish! Without fail, I will end up getting a Phil bagel on everything which comes with heaps of cream cheese and tomato and cucumber. Hits the spot every time. Along with a large Tesora with medium cream and light sugar - it's my new comfort food. The baristas are fun and energetic and ask you to "try it and make sure it's perfect for me" before you take your coffee away so they are very interested in getting things right. The music is always adding to the atmosphere and with its bright and airy layout you really don't want to leave! read more

Love this place.. but that last few days my drinks have been watered down. I always order my drinks on the order ahead app. My drink seems to always be ready the second I walk in. I know, who complains about your coffee being ready early? The only issue I have is that it's like my coffee has been sitting there for several minuets before it's actually suppose to be ready. Hence the watered down coffee.. I hate to be that person that had to complain about watered down coffee, but it seemed like I was doing more of the apologizing for asking them to make me a new one vs them apologizing for the watered down coffee.. love this place and doubt I'll stop going. Just hope that they don't give me watered down coffee anymore . read more

I came in with a big order for 20 people and the manager and another barista got there early in the morning just to get our order up and running for us, which I'm sure they had to be there at 5am anyway so that was so above and beyond! They were both delightful to boot and created such a well rounded experience for us. When we tipped a nice tip the manager made a point to give it all to the barista to reward her and made sure to tell us how great her colleague was. Such a cool thing to do! Love this location. Philz Coffee is one of my favorite coffee shops. I've had their Mint Mojito and Jamaican Blue Mountain and both are really good, but my go-to is always the Mocha Tesora, with no sweetener, since the cocoa is sweet enough for me. It's the best! read more

This place has the most mind blowing coffee flavors I have ever seen. I tried the Philharmonic which weirdly enough contains mint, but it was awesome! They have really great Philz bagel sandwiches as well, this would be the perfect breakfast place for me, but alas, I do not live in SF. The staff is very friendly, they will change your coffee if you do not like it. They even add the sugar for you, probably the first coffee place I went to that did not make me stir sugar in. They have an open floor plan, with tables outside and a couch and a decent amount of seating inside the coffee shop. Cold place on cold days. They leave a large roll-up door open even on the cold winter mornings and makes the whole inside as cold as outside. On multiple occasion when asked to close the door due to the cold temperature the response was that the baristas got too hot if it is closed. Instead of directing any concern to customer comfort they ignore it for their own sake. Not even an attempt to rebalance their AC system or anything. Willing to drive a bit further to a different place now. Phil should be disappointed! read more

I was a fan of of Philz Ether which I first experienced at the original SF Philz a couple of years back. I stopped by the 9th St cafe to buy a little of each of the coffee beans that they sell including Ether. I found that the quality of the beans had gone down and whoever is in charge of roasting has fallen asleep at the controls. Ether has gone from a dark, flavorful and nuanced cup - to simply burnt. The remainder of the coffees were simply mediocre to my taste. The cafe itself is pleasant with responsive staff and comfortable environment but, sadly, better cups of coffee are available elsewhere. I hope Philz works to bring the quality of their coffee (especially Ether) back as I know they have produced a wonderful coffee in the past. read more
