Chill spot Polite staff Too many flies were hanging around that day, but would order from again.

Catahoula Coffee is one of those neighborhood spots that feels very Richmond--unpretentious, a little eclectic, and clearly loved by the community. From the outside the building is fairly simple, but inside it has a warm, lived-in character. There's a mix of seating: window bar seating for laptop work, small café tables for conversation, and a steady flow of regulars coming through the door. The décor leans toward local personality rather than polished design--wood shelving, exposed ducting, and a wall display explaining different coffee origins and flavor profiles. It gives the place a slightly nerdy coffee-culture vibe that I appreciate. The drink menu is fairly extensive and includes some creative house drinks. Over multiple visits I've tried quite a few things: the Matcha Latte, the Matcha Horchata Latte, the Mexi-Mocha, and several of their traditional espresso drinks. Everything I've tried has been good, but the Mexi-Mocha stands out as one of their signature drinks. Catahoula's coffees tend to lean bold and dark-roasted, with very distinctive flavors. If you prefer lighter third-wave roasts this may feel a bit intense, but if you like a strong, flavorful cup it works well. I've also purchased several of their beans to brew at home, and they hold up nicely. Service has consistently been solid. The staff are helpful, attentive, and prompt, and the shop runs efficiently even when there's a line. Overall, Catahoula feels like a genuine neighborhood coffee shop rather than a curated café concept. It's a comfortable place to grab a drink, work for a bit, or meet someone for coffee. A solid four-star Richmond staple.

Fairly busy, even for a Friday mid morning. Good energy. The baristas looked like they were having a good time. I like that. Pastries looked good, but I couldn't decide and when I am at that stage I go with nothing. But next time. I got an iced horchata latte. Very heavy on the cinnamon, but it was still decent. Would definitely return.

I ended up at the Catahoula Coffee House with a friend who, like me, wasn't familiar with the area. Sometimes you just get lucky! Pros - Very easy to find. Located directly on the main road with available street parking - Cozy indie-style shop, with seating throughout and a comfy overall feeling - Baristas were welcoming & friendly. Patiently helped us with our muffin selections - Gluten-free options available for certain items (yay!) - Large selection of coffee; The Catahoula Coffee Company brands their own varieties for purchase there as well - The coffee was very good. I finished my Espresso before I remembered to take a pic (I woke up after that shot & remembered the mission lollol) Cons - None I will definitely recommend this little coffee hotspot to anyone who asks. I personally will also make it a point to go back there whenever I return to Richmond. All the stars aligned for this little gem!

    Thank you Catahoula!

Don't sleep on the Richmond coffee scene. Catahoula Coffee Company is a super cute spot on San Pablo Ave that houses fresh coffee drinks for purchase and bags to-go, as well as merch and breakfast bites. Awesome service at the front for a first-timer. I ordered a Horchata Iced Latte (you can order it with half the sweetness level) and it was perfect, still packing the punch with 2x espresso shots. Other notable drinks mentioned as top sellers are their Cubano Latte (espresso with raw sugar, steamed milk) and the Mexi-Mocha (espresso with their housemade Mexi-mocha mix and choice of milk). We don't have too many non-chain coffee spots over here so it's incredibly refreshing to see ones that have solid regulars with honest pricing and a great product focused on community. Looking forward to incorporating this into our rotation, especially since we're running low on our beans at home :)

First time visiting here and it's a cute little coffee shop. They offer vegan items, which is always a plus. Customer service was really nice--the staff was sweet and helpful. They recommended I try the popular horchata iced latte, but unfortunately it wasn't good at all. There was no coffee taste and it was very milky. I also ordered the vegan concha, banana muffin, and the bacon breakfast burrito. The vegan concha was good, but not the best. The banana muffin wasn't good at all. However, the bacon breakfast burrito was SO good and definitely the highlight of my order.

Cozy, rustic and upbeat coffee spot on San Pablo Ave. We got an Iced Americano and a Vanilla Bean Iced Latte. The Americano was crisp and not watered down at all for 16oz. It was just what I needed to get the day rolling. The vanilla latte was strong, creamy, and the right amount of sweet. I think its richness and intensity really distinguishes itself from your typical vanilla syrup drink. I liked how accommodating the staff were about milk options. The store also has some cute merch for sale. Overall I'm happy to have found such a warm and genuine neighborhood coffee spot. I would love to try their Mexi-Mocha and Cubano Latte next time, I heard these are very good.

Cute little coffee shop! We've been wanting to try it for a while! The line was out the door when we came and moved pretty slow at first but then moved quickly. I got an iced Mexican mocha as well as a few of their pastries. Overall everything was pretty good! Parking can be difficult though!

Coffee and pastries ALWAYS great! Hot Mexi-mocha with oat milk on a cold day hits the spot. Not a cold day? I get it iced! Horchata latte also an amazing drink had it few times. Staff always friendly, music is amazing. Would walk in to some soft Spanish rock, to soft rock, or even a little classic here and there! Love it here and will def be coming back for years

    So good!

A local coffee shop, the place has their clientele, customer service good, the ambience very clean organized and the displays are just so wanting to grab every single bag of coffee beans to go. I ended up ordering Mexican latte, smooth, not to heavy in cocoa but not too heavy in coffee neither, I added a vegan concha, I won't order that again it was really dry not spongy as other ones I had tried Overall I might be coming back and give another chance to the cubano latte will see but no pasties at least there are really fresh

Super cute coffee shop worth checking out! The service was quick and the drinks are tasty. I enjoyed the Iced horchata matcha and my husband tried the Mexi-mocha latte. The flavor options are unique and play homage to Mexican culture. I look forward to coming back and trying their other drinks in the future.

Finally got to try this place! TBH, I was a little skeptical because it's on a busy street, parking looked impossible, and it's not in the nicest neighborhood. BUT I'm not going to let that stop me from visiting again. Parking can be challenging since it is street parking and it's on a busy street. The aroma coming from this place as soon as I stepped out of the car is indescribable. They have a variety of drinks and some specialty drinks like their mexi mocha (Mexican hot chocolate with coffee) and their horchata latte. I was also able to get it decaf which is nice. They do sell some pastries like pan de dulce along with your other basic pastries like croissants and things. The horchata latte was super delicious and not too sweet. It still had that coffee taste even though I had decaf. There are a few tables inside and no outdoor seating. It's easy to talk inside even though it gets crowded. The music isn't blasting which is nice. I'm not sure if it's an ideal shop to work from because of the limited tables, but it's possible. I love supporting local coffee chops and Catahoula easily makes my top list!

What impressed me about their dinner menu is the drinks, very strong and delicious. The food was okay... we ordered a burger with fries and wings. The meat was cooked medium rare, if you don't like it cooked that way make sure you let them know. I really enjoyed the wings, they were well seasoned and give a decent portion. They also charge for extra ketchup which I've never experienced, understandable if it was ranch or some other special sauce but it wasn't. All the servers were polite, attentive and the place was clean and felt welcoming. They have a bar that I'll probably go to next time just for the drinks. I recommend to order their hazelnut espresso martini and the madre mía both drinks were amazing!

Who knew you could have a tea flight? I didn't before visiting this spot…read more First of all, the ambiance speaks for itself, but the service is what set this experience over the top! I appreciate the detail Kebzie shared about each tea. I learned that certain teas can be steeped multiple times, changing the flavor profile. My favorite tea changed throughout the tasting experience due to this. I appreciate that each tea was labeled with the number of recommended steeps and the best temperature to pour the water. We were also given a tea pet which was perfect because my friend and I were discussing our intentions for the coming season. We were both very stressed from work and just life in general so this is just the type of experience we needed. We were able to slow down & enjoy each other's company all while learning more about tea (we're tea obsessed). Thank you so much to the Blue Willow team! My only complaint is that there are limited food options (the snickerdoodle cookie was excellent!). I say this as more of a warning so people don't come hungry, but it didn't take away from the experience. One final note: "If you get a few leaves in your sipping cup it's good luck" ~Kebzie

I'm new to the Bay and trying to actually explore, so I'm really glad I found this place…read more I came with a friend on a slow Sunday around 4pm. Parking was pretty easy, though there aren't a ton of spots. Since it wasn't busy, we got a lot of attention and guidance on the teas, how to steep them, and what to pay attention to while drinking. We did the 3-tea flight ($25 + $3 per extra cup) and both got a snickerdoodle cookie, which was really nice alongside the teas since they were served without added sugar. This was the first time I think I actually understood tea descriptions. Earthy? Apparently that means I might feel like a little glistening frog licking a water droplet off a leaf in a swamp during the fall . I learned earthy teas probably aren't for me. But then you'll be sipping something, slightly lost, and suddenly be like....wait, I taste the chocolate! The plum? Brown sugar?? You start connecting the descriptions to what you're tasting and learning your own preferences: hotter or cooler, longer or shorter steep, which flavors you keep going back to. The changes between steeps are subtle, which I think is important to know if you're new to tea. It's less about huge flavors hitting your taste buds and more about slowing down enough to notice. We also had a little owl tea pet that we poured water over while setting intentions for our goals. As our conversation moved through life, plans and where we both are right now, I started to understand how tea becomes a ritual. Water to leaf, leaf to tea, tea to you, then back to the leaf for another steep. Calmingly informational is probably the best way I can describe it. I learned about tea, learned a little about myself, had a great conversation with my friend, and left understanding why the whole process can feel so grounding. Sooo I'd definitely come back! I think it's especially nice for catching up with someone when you actually want to sit and talk, a quieter date, or even just trying something you haven't done before.
