Don't sleep on the Richmond coffee scene. Catahoula Coffee Company is a super cute spot on San Pablo Ave that houses fresh coffee drinks for purchase and bags to-go, as well as merch and breakfast bites. Awesome service at the front for a first-timer. I ordered a Horchata Iced Latte (you can order it with half the sweetness level) and it was perfect, still packing the punch with 2x espresso shots. Other notable drinks mentioned as top sellers are their Cubano Latte (espresso with raw sugar, steamed milk) and the Mexi-Mocha (espresso with their housemade Mexi-mocha mix and choice of milk). We don't have too many non-chain coffee spots over here so it's incredibly refreshing to see ones that have solid regulars with honest pricing and a great product focused on community. They recommended I try the popular horchata iced latte, but unfortunately it wasn't good at all. There was no coffee taste and it was very milky. Cozy, rustic and upbeat coffee spot on San Pablo Ave. We got an Iced Americano and a Vanilla Bean Iced Latte. The Americano was crisp and not watered down at all for 16oz. It was just what I needed to get the day rolling. The vanilla latte was strong, creamy, and the right amount of sweet. I think its richness and intensity really distinguishes itself from your typical vanilla syrup drink. I liked how accommodating the staff were about milk options. The store also has some cute merch for sale. Overall I'm happy to have found such a warm and genuine neighborhood coffee spot. I think this place is great since it is local to me but I have had a better Horchata latte and if that place was closer I'd be going there all the time instead. Service is typical. Finally got to try this place! TBH, I was a little skeptical because it's on a busy street, parking looked impossible, and it's not in the nicest neighborhood. BUT I'm not going to let that stop me from visiting again. Parking can be challenging since it is street parking and it's on a busy street. The aroma coming from this place as soon as I stepped out of the car is indescribable. They have a variety of drinks and some specialty drinks like their mexi mocha (Mexican hot chocolate with coffee) and their horchata latte. I was also able to get it decaf which is nice. They do sell some pastries like pan de dulce along with your other basic pastries like croissants and things. The horchata latte was super delicious and not too sweet. It still had that coffee taste even though I had decaf. There are a few tables inside and no outdoor seating. It's easy to talk inside even though it gets crowded. The music isn't blasting which is nice. I'm not sure if it's an ideal shop to work from because of the limited tables, but it's possible. Finally stopped into this coffee shop after driving by way too many times! It was bustling inside (clearly a local favorite), but service was quick! I came in thinking I'd get a regular hot matcha latte, but the horchata-matcha combo caught my eye, so I went for it. The drink was a fun idea: creamy, warm, and definitely bold in flavor. The cinnamon hit me right away, followed by that strong, grassy matcha finish. For my taste, though, the balance was a little off--it leaned too earthy for the size of the cup, but I appreciate the creativity. I try to stay away from sugar in my coffee now but I was eyeing the Cubano latte and the staff told me it is just a latte with a packet of RAW sugar. I was looking for coffee, Starbucks or something because I was hitting a wall in the afternoon after spring forward Sunday and I needed to pick me up to get me to San Francisco. This happened to be right where it needed to be and flipped around it was open at 2:15 PM on Sunday. I remember in high school, my econ teacher would rave about Catahoula and how great its coffee was. The business sponsored us waaaaay back to help our class pay for our AP Econ exams - it was solid. Only recently did I try Catahoula and started coming back! I wish I came here earlier because the shop is really cute, the staff are friendly, and the drinks are delicious! Out of the few times I've been here so far, I would have to say that my favorite is the horchata latte. You can really taste horchata flavor without it compromising that it's coffee as well. A plus is that there's parking in the back too, so you don't to worry too much about parking on the really busy San Pablo Ave. (although you'll have to worry if the cafe is full!) Nice little place that is popular with the locals. Found this place as I was checking out local options during my travel through. Walking in, the outdoor walls have "welcome" in many languages. And that is how it felt when I walked in. There is window bar seating, a small community table, and a few two tops. No seating outside. near the front seating area, there are books available in the shelves. Parking is not easy as this is a busy road and no parking lot near by. But as people come and go, it did not take long for a spot to free up so I could stay a while. Had an iced green tea which was nice. My butter croissant was fresh. Watching people come and go, this place is relaxing while busy. The two baristas were busy and always had a smile while they chatting with their customers. Not a fan of Adriana - store manager Liked this place for the Cubano but with so many coffee places I tend to base my reviews off the experience and customer service. My kid usually likes visiting this place and the team members are typically neutral slanted to the kind end but I think there's one man that's really nice and he may be the owner. Not sure which team I'm encountering Monday through Fridays in the early AM BUT it's not the "store manager" Adriana and thank God. Not a fan of her acerbic message delivery or flat facial demeanor. So I walked in and asked for my Cubano with oat milk and cinnamon steamed in WHICH THEYVE BEEN DOING FOR MY ORDER SINCE I STARTED COMING HERE (So does PEETS, Philz, Starbucks etc... ) she told me no it's out with the other supplies. I told her they always Steam it in (tastes different) plus I don't like touching stuff that's out there so for a $5 or whatever drink PLEASE just steam it in. We go back and forth and she's just so rude and she says they've never done this (lie) and that she's the store manager and they can't because of cinnamon allergies (I'm okay with this. Makes sense instead of being an ass - just start with that message - doesn't make sense why other cafes do this they probably do a thorough wipe down and let's not act that other things aren't common allergens like someone can have a "nut allergy" and you're steaming almond milk .... Woah. If you're a mocha fiend like I am, I highly recommend trying the iced mexi-mocha. The coffee beans used for the drink are very fruity, so the drink has a chocolate-cherry vibe to it. The most gourmet-tasting iced mocha that I've had to say the least lol. I had it with almond milk, which ended up being a really good call because I think with whole milk the drink probably would've been a little too rich for my liking. I also got Ethiopian coffee beans to make some cold brew at home. Tasty and smooth cold brew was made. Friendly staff (cashier gentleman even asked if I wanted a complimentary small cup of hot coffee, which is also a Yelp check-in offer).
