Adequate introduction, Great Exam, Poor Follow up Friendly demeanor on the phone when I called for an appointment; got me in for an appointment in a reasonable amount of time. Although the clinic feels to have been built into a house, is a bit disheveled and cluttered, it had a "homey" feel and Cindy was as friendly in person as she was on the phone. Dr. Rosales has wonderful demeanor, took his time to get the prescription (for contacts) right and ensure I had a good experience. Impressed with his "bedside" manor and would recommend him. He explained the care plan - order new contacts, bring me back in to see how they fit... try 'em out for a bit and come back in to ensure these worked well for me. Sounded great. The problem - and the fact I can't recommend Phinney Ridge - is in the follow up. I was told my contact lenses would need to be ordered, but "could" possibly be in with in a few days. Regardless, Cindy offered, she'd let me know as soon as they came in. Two months later, I called to find out what the deal was. After a painful dialogue while Cindy, with some trouble looked up my patient information... then painful-er wait while she searched, what I imagined through the thumping I heard on the other end of the phone were the same piles of papers and boxes on the front counter as when I came it, she "found" them. Turns out the contact lenses had been sitting there for... about 2 months. "They must have gotten lost," Cindy offered. I explained I wasn't impressed. "Well, they're here now!" Cindy explained in a chipper voice... as if a 2 month snafu was superfluous. I offered that I was frustrated at the lack of follow up. "Well, they're here now!" Cindy offered as her mantra, apparently against any negativity from a silly patient disappointed that his contact lenses were "lost" and aftercare was nil. "Well let me make an appointment to try them on. Dr. Rosales said he wanted to see how they fit when they came in." I asked. "Oh, no... just come get them. You don't need to try them on here. They're ready!" Cindy said in her chipper voice. "The doctor said he wanted me to try them on to see how these fit." I repeated. "Oh, there's no need for that... just come get them!" Cindy cheerily said. "Would you check with the doctor?" I asked, "He told me he wanted me to try them on at the office, so that he could examine whether they fit properly." "Oh, we don't need to do that. I'm sure Rob didn't need you to do that. Just come pick them up and take them home, then let us know if there are any problems," Cindy countered. "Would you please check with 'Rob'?" I asked, "HE TOLD ME HE WANTED ME TO COME IN AND TRY THEM ON IN THE EXAMINING ROOM." Cindy would have none of that foolishness, repeating her earlier refrain. Now 10 minutes into searching for my patient information, my lost order and a bickering match for whether I should follow the doctor's directions... or cindy-the-front-office-wife-of-the-doctor's orders... I was now late for an appointment. "Please check with the doctor whether he needs me to come in... or if I am to just 'pick them up and try them on and let you know of there are problems'", I asked. "I have to go, I have a meeting starting." "Oh, well... I can make you and appointment if you want," Cindy finally relinquished... "just hold on and I'll see what's open!" she cheerily added. "I'm sorry, I'm late for my meeting. I'll have to call back to finish this." I answered. "Oh, this will only take a few seconds!" she said (more rustling noises in the background while another few minutes went by). "I'm sorry, I'm late for my meeting. I'll have to finish this later" I repeated. "Oh? You don't want to do this now? I can do this now, just hold on a minute." (more rustling noises in the background). I hung up. It is now 3 more months later. Haven't heard a word from them. Apparently my contacts are still sitting *somewhere*... Love 'Rob," I like Cindy's cheeriness... but hell... I can't handle the disorganization and lack of follow through. read more

I didn't find anything 'special' here - all of their frames looked the same to me - all on the small-ish side (many look like they are made for children...), and nothing that is distinguished/unique-looking. At least some of their frames are reasonably priced (a bit over $200). The reason I am giving it 4 stars is because the sales woman was so friendly and personable - and I always appreciate good customer service, even if I do not buy anything - it makes all the difference. read more

This is a great eyeglass shop with tons of selection. The owners, Dr. Woo and Dr. Rosales are the best! I have been going to Dr. Woo for over 15 years. Dr. Rosales provides the most thorough exam you could ever hope to have and Dr. Woo is great with helping you to select a frame that works well with your facial structure and coloring. Time is never an issue with them. They make you feel like you could linger over the racks for hours or chat with them about the health of your eyes until you fully understand all you need to know. I want to sing from the rooftops about how exceptional my experience was with Dr Rob. Hands down I cannot imagine any other eye doctor being more competent, thorough, and genuinely invested in making sure that I have the correct prescription for my eyecare needs. I also cannot commend him and his wife Dr Cindy any more for their kindness in fitting me into their schedule last thing on a Friday evening, and I never felt rushed as he conducted the exam even past their closing time. I came to him for a second opinion after a very traumatic experience with a downtown eye doctor who took a very different approach and scared me half to death with her delivery regarding a shift in my vision, saying I had to move directly from no full time prescription to progressives. Dr Rob's practical approach really reassured me as he took into account both my work and personal activities in assessing my proper vision needs. And he took the time to explain different options with pros and cons. I so appreciated his less aggressive, down to earth approach, and the fact that he took the time to answer all of my questions without rushing me. Amazing. I have seen a number of optometrists through the years and have never come across such skill and dedication as I have here. I have a VERY tricky contact prescription and Dr. Rosales has been so patient in getting my contacts just right. I just moved here from Virginia and was looking for an eye doctor. I went to Phinney Ridge Eye Care after seeing the good reviews from yelp. I am glad that I did because it was a great experience (as good as it gets for going to the eye doctor). They were very friendly and professional, and they took the extra time to give me some suggestions of things to do around the area since I am new. Definitely recommended. I'm blind as a bat. Okay, not really, but my quality of vision has been decreasing. I first noticed it when my boyfriend and I were driving to my parents house in Idaho. A six hour car ride led to car games, which led to us racing to read road signs. The boyfriend beat me on every sign. I'd see fuzz from a distance, but he'd be able to read the sign clearly. Uh oh. Being able to see while driving isn't a big deal, right? Or maybe not. After months of procrastinating, I finally made an appointment at Phinney Ridge Eyecare to get my eyeballs checked. I hadn't seen an eye doctor since high school, so I was a little nervous. My appointment was with Dr. Rosales and he greeted me as soon as I walked through the door. I filled out the intro paperwork and minutes later I was staring at the big E. The eye exam lasted for about 45 minutes and seemed to be more thorough than any other eye appointment I'd been to. Dr. Rosales discovered that I was near sighted, so while I waited for my eyes to dilate, his wife, Dr. Woo helped me pick out my new spectacles. In my opinion, there was a pretty large selection of glasses to choose from. There were lots of frame shapes and colors and a variety of brands in the shop. Like I said, my eyes were in the process of dilating, so after trying on a few pairs, I couldn't really tell the difference or see for that matter. However, Dr. Woo was very helpful and gave her honest opinion and I ended up deciding on my frames that night. I'd recommend Phinney Ridge Eyecare to anyone in the area who is in the market for some new glasses or just needs an eye exam. It didn't take long for me to get an appointment, which can be a problem at other shops. Both of the doctors were nice and took the time to explain what was going on with my eyes. If you do think you'll be needing glasses, I'd recommend going in a bit before your appointment, so that you have a good amount of time to browse their selection and you aren't stuck browsing with blurry vision. read more

This is a great place to get your eyes examined and to select frames. The couple who run this shop are both eye doctors and know what they're doing -- the most thorough eye exam I've ever had. Plus, they are very nice and have a great selection of frames. They let me peruse and mess up their displays for over 2 hours, and didn't give off any attitude. I've been wearing glasses since I was 5 and this was my best frame/eye exam experience yet. Don't waste your time with the mean people at Eyes on Fremont. Oh boy oh boy oh boy! I'm excited to write a review for Phinney Ridge Eyecare! I moved to Seattle four years ago, and despite having had vision insurance since then, had avoided my yearly eye exam like a plague. When it was starting to become obviously unavoidable, I decided to go to Yelp and look around. Phinney Ridge caught my eye because it was the only place with a near-perfect rating. I told myself, "What the hell, why not?" and called for an appointment. When I first entered the office, it was a very busy and chaotic Friday afternoon. I was not entirely impressed because the shop looked kinda "quaint" from the outside, and it was seemingly located in the middle of nowhere for me. Dr. Woo was trying to collect my insurance information, while taking care of two patients, answering the phone, and greeting walk-ins. I was a little intimidated, for sure. When Dr. Rosales came out to take me into the exam room, though, it was an entirely different world. He took his time with the exam, listened to my concerns, and answered all my questions, from serious to silly ones. (Remember, I've been doing this since I was 11, and I was feeling half-bored, half-smartass-like.) He explained what he was doing, and why he was doing them (e.g. the purposes of Tonometry, ophthalmoscopy, or my least favorite slit-lamp test). He was careful, and he treated me like I was a person instead of the next number in line. The whole experience kinda put all my previous eye exams to shame. When I returned to the front office, the chaos had settled down significantly. Dr. Woo was cheerful and friendly. She ordered trial lenses for me, and didn't pressure me into anything when I told her I was still deciding between eyeglasses and contacts (or both). (Two weeks later, I decided to order only contacts, not glasses. She was still perfectly nice to me and gave me prescriptions for both. You can be sure that when my current glasses expire, I will order my new pair from Phinney Ridge.) I've had a cocktail of congenital eye problems and have been wearing glasses since I was 11, contacts since I was 15. I've had my share of almost every "class" of optometrists and ophthalmologists, from your run-of-the-mill Wal-Mart to respected (and expensive!) private practices. Phinney Ridge Eyecare was the first place that made me felt comfortable. Needless to say, I never plan to move from Seattle because I can't imagine having to search for another office like this! read more

I can't say enough good things about this optometrist. Rob and Cindy are super nice, super duper smart, and very pleasant. They are also very flexible and understanding about scheduling. I've never had such great experiences with an optometrist. Even though I'm on the other side of town now, I still make the trek to Phinney Ridge to see them. It's very much a "family doctor" type of place - Rob and Cindy are a husband and wife working together, which is adorable, and they have a fantastic memory for patients. Even though I only go once every year or two, they always remember me by first name even just over the phone without seeing me. I saw Dr. Robert Rosales and he was very friendly and personable and discussed different contact lens options with me, taking into consideration what I was used to and what I wanted. Great place and the receptionist is very funny and friendly also. They were very busy but they did not rush me or cut any corners on my appointment. They don't try to pressure you into buying anything there (I go for cheap and get my frames at Costco) which I also appreciated. As long as I live in Seattle I'll go here. read more

I needed to see an optometrist right away because of some peculiarity going on with my vision. Even though they were booked solid, they told me to come in and they would try to fit me in. And they did. I got as much attention as if I'd scheduled my appt in advance, and one of the most thorough eye exams I've had. My fears are calmed, my eyes are fine. I got good nutritional advice and was treated exceptionally well by both doctors. They have a nice selection of frames, too. I don't need to see eye doctors as much as I used to (before lasik), but when I do need to see one again, they will be my first choice. read more

A shout out for this business is long overdue. Over the past three years I've bought two pair of glasses (progressive lens regular and sunglasses) and have been very pleased with the results. Both doctors are knowledgable, professional and personable. Today I returned because my frames (purchased in 2013) were bent. Dr. Rob adjusted the frame and made sure it fit correctly. My ways of picking doctors usually goes with choosing whichever is closest to home...and therefore it yields not always optimal results. In this case however I felt quite lucky, I had a very friendly and thorough visit. The doctor is open to dialog and shows genuine care for his job and his patients health. I would definitely go back here the next time I need a visit. The only downfall is that you have to pay ahead of time if you have certain insurance, for example VSP. However they will submit the claim for you and I did get about 80% of the cost refunded within a few days. read more

Since 2003 I have bought about a pair per year and it is always a pleasure to go in for my check-up. I've been going back to Phinney Ridge Eyecare for years. Have bought a few pairs of frames and my all-time favorite Paul Frank sunglasses. Dr Rob is really thorough, if a little chatty, and it's a really relaxed, comfortable atmosphere in the shop. I've sent a few people there who have been happy, too. In fact, I re-filled the frames with a second prescription. We first started going to Dr. Woo and Dr. Rosales when we lived in the Seattle area many years ago. They started out as part-time docs in the eye center at a Fred Meyer in Bellevue. When they opened up their own clinic in Phinney Ridge, we liked them so much that we followed them across town. Anyone who has to cross the 520 bridge every day knows what dedication that takes! We moved away more than 10 years ago, but would make a point to get our annual checkup with them to coincide with a trip from Texas to see kids and grandkids. We've been in Paris (France) now for three years, and I have my next appointment to go see them when I'm in Seattle next month on business. They're THAT good! read more
