I was in town and had craving for pho soup. My husband chose this place since it was closer to where we were coming from. Parking is a bit challenging. When I walked in, I was disappointed with the decor and ambience. I knew right there and then that the food will not be up to par since they cared less about the appearance of their restaurant. The people working there weren't enthusiastic at all. The table we were seated wasn't even sanitized prior to seating us. We are still living in a pandemic world. Server came right away and took our order. She was nice and attentive. I ordered the combo pho size small it was a good size for a small. The broth was ok and the meat didn't taste fresh. The garnish was lacking the mint. Our server said they ran out? Huh why? I consumed half only because I was hungry and I don't like to wast food so I took it to go. My husband ordered the same but large. He seemed to enjoy it because he finished his. I think because he was just hungry since it was his first meal of the day. It was around 5p. We also had 1 order of egg rolls. Big disappointment too it didn't taste fresh. Ended up taking it to go as well. It's over priced for the quality and the experience. Will not go back. read more

Don't believe the bad reviews, this is my favorite place in Modesto, probably my favorite pho in general. It's authentic and the broth is beefy, sweet, complex and rich. They dont skimp out on the side of basil beansprouts and jalapeños. Ask for the chili oil, good heat. The dude who serves the food is hella cool. Get the large #1 with everything and a Heineken or a tsing tao. See if you have what it takes to finish it. read more

Went here today for an early dinner. I'm a soup fanatic. I decided on the vegetarian Bo Bun Hue. I love broth. Don't really like the weird meat product stuff the regular BBH has. So the veggie version was perfect. With addition of the very fresh basil and jalopenos and lime as well as the rooster sauce, the broth was really good. The cha gio was a little tough, not as flaky as I like. They have beer, but only Mexican and Chinese, not Vietnamese. I missed my "33", or even Hue. But for MOD, I was happy. Surprisingly great. I ate a spoonful of sirracha though which was not smart. Try the thai tea. Its really nice but dont get those dumb bubble stuff in it cause they suck. The number 7 on the menu is delicious. Awesome find. read more

I have only ever sat down and ate in the restaurant two-three times but the service is always great and fast. I would consider myself an avid take out customer. It's near my work/house and whenever I want a good bowl of pho for lunch, they're the ones I call. They'll have it ready for me in 10-15 minutes. Another Pho, that my little family and I enjoy coming to when we are in the area. It's a little small, and like another review said it can get pretty stuffy especially when you are like me and are craving some Soup even on a hot 100 degree day. Coming back down from a weekend in Napa, I was feeling a little disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I had a gastronomical time up there but I was still missing something. About an hour into my drive, I had remembered, from a distant time of somewhat repressed memories, a Vietnamese restaurant where I had my first taste of pho. The first few times was a declaration of war among my mind and tastebuds, a flavor I despised even more than going to church on a Superbowl weekend. It was an illusional, delusional time that I wished I would encounter again. I wouldn't have had a clue as to where this fine establishment would be but luckily, I had my GPS to guide me to the closest decimeter of the exact location. I inputted "pho" and "modesto" in the machine and out chugged about 7 pho joints. I was clueless, they all sounded similar and they were all located on the either of the two main streets in Modesto... "McHenry" and "Carver." So I decided to play pho roulette and picked this place. If I thought I knew how good pho should taste, I would've hoped it to be of my first pho. So it turned out that this place was indeed the right place except they had renovated the tiles and the tables. I even found out they even have a bathroom! So we both ordered pho and everything came out as planned except for a small aberration which was the lemon instead of lime. Now the only place I've seen this occur was in Korea where I had what we call in my standards "instant pho" flavor but people were putting down over 10 bucks a bowl in a nice ass sit down restaurant where all the waiters were in red vests and slacks. But I regress, the pho was absolutely dignifying. It was that bar that had been set but never toppled. It was the bliss of pure energy extruding from the fornication between Aphrodite and Bacchus. IMO, this is the best Pho in Modesto. Of course, it's a shithole place in a run-down strip mall. The interior is shabby and the kitchen would make Gordon Ramsey fly into a expletive-spewing rage. However the Pho is excellent, the portions large, and the spring/shrimp rolls are always fresh. The soup bowls are so frigging huge you could actually backstroke within the bowl. For 7 bucks it's a helluva meal. It's also served by traditional, non-emotional, un-engaging Vietnamese folks so there's that. At least it's authentic. If you aren't an uppity rich white person, check this place out. Oh yeah, like most restaurants in Modesto, this place closes EARLY. Like 8pm on a Friday night. /shrug read more

I didn't think Modesto would have a pho shop, let a lone four... Pho 7 is authentic, and doesn't dilute its menu with lots of Chinese dishes. Lots of choices and reasonable prices. Two sizes of bowls, 50 cents more for the larger... probably should have order that. Fresh basil, jalapenos & bean sprouts... limes were dinky. Chopsticks on table, plus all the condiments like Siracha and hoisin (oyster) sauce. I pass on fish sauce. Table was worn, but not greasy. Food was served very, very fast. They only serve taro pearl tapioca, which is A-OK by me. The restaurant is a real hole in the strip mall, plenty of ethnic businesses around it. First off f*** this place! I came here years back and got recycled soup with little pieces from other plates floating around in the bottom of my soup. So today my brother told me that this place turned around so I decide to give it another chance. What a big mistake that was. So I ordered chicken pho it was pretty tasty to be honest. It was when I was about to leave and pay my bill that a big a#s cockroach climbed on the wall behind me! Eaten at all the Pho joints in Modesto and this is the best. I only order the Pho, I do not eat the fake Chinese food, or shrimp covered in coconut, thats rubbish. The addition to the Pho are just great, blood, raw steak, bok choy, shrimp, tendon, grilled pork bits, all served in a boiling soup with lots of raw peppers, sprouts, basil and lime juice to be added on top. I have talked to them about importing some real fish sauce you know the stuff made from fish stomachs, salt and left in a glass bottle to ferment. This would make a fine base to work out off. (though my friend, who's vietnamese and is from the bay area said that there are better Vietnamese restaurants in the bay and the food's just ok) The Pho I ordered and the vermicelli my friend got were delicious and had big portions. Who can forget the bittersweetness of first love? The taste of your first kiss? The first real disappointment of your life upon realizing first love won't last forever? To me, my 2-year culinary experience at Pho 7 encompassed the sum of all these feelings, as Pho 7 was the place where I first discovered and fell in love with Vietnamese food. The backstory goes something like this: I was stuck attending high school in Modesto, which is the most awesome place to start a family and raise children, but the worst place in the world to do anything else, let alone find palatable asian cuisine. Compared to all the other "asian" restaurants in town, this place is a godsend; their pho, grass bowls, salad rolls and even boba are amazing in comparsion to anything Modesto has to offer. But my love affair with Pho 7 ended the moment I left Modesto; Pho 7 is a medium-sized fish in a tiny pond -- granted, I would take Pho 7 over Pho Hoa or any other chain/caucasian-oriented Pho establishments, but I wouldn't go so far as to call them great or amazing. One thing I do like about Pho 7 is that you can pretty much get a refill of anything you want with your pho (of course, not for free) and the old couple that runs this place are nice and adorable. read more

The number 3 (pho tai) is my favorite and they're shrimp spring rolls & chicken egg rolls are awesome! The owner always knows what I want (cuz I get the same thing everytime lol) and him and his wife are super friendly! I've never had a complaint about they're food or service!
