We ate at a restaurant next door to this Pho 79 and popped over here for a bubble tea on the way home. This location has a much better vibe than the previous location I reviewed. We didn't get any food so I can't speak about that, but I think if I were to try a Pho 79 again this is the location I would go to. Warm atmosphere. Attentive employees. Been coming here since I moved to Norfolk 4 years ago and recently I noticed new workers if you can call them that. I was sat with attitude from the young male worker, had my menu taken abruptly from my hands as I was finishing speaking my order, and just felt like I was an all around bother to even be in there. Food came fat as always, still pretty good but my water was never refilled and I was never asked if I was ok. Instead the two male and one female worker sat behind the bar talking bout tips and other things. You can't tell who even works there as some have the PHO79 shirt on, one dude was in sweats and one even had saggy pants lol. Nice! As I'm paying, the one male worker asks the other if the female worker left and says and I quote" I hope she did, cuz she's being a bitch" ...maybe she was I dunno but so rude to talk about coworkers in front of customers! Especially curse! You're at work! WORK! I left NO tip at all! Screw that! As soon as I signed my receipt the guys eyes went straight to the top area to see if I left one, I mean what makes this guy think whatever he did deserved a tip? Not only did I get shitty service but I also was shown that my business isn't appreciated, needed or respected. Never going back. There isn't anything that sets this place apart from going to other Pho places. Their atmosphere, closeness to my house and good staff was what kept me coming back. I did call the manager and she let me know the two were dating and fighting....hahaha she ain't gonna do crap about it so I am not going back and you've been warned bout service so if you want a meal with drama this is your place. read more

I've only had takeout from this location. but it's always incredible! My grandad and I love getting pho and curry dishes from here. my mom loves the spring rolls and we sometimes get a banh mi for lunch the next day. read more

I'm pretty sure the Pho here is magical. I do wish there was an option to get Pho with meat AND veggies, instead of one or the other. The staff is always very accommodating by letting me order the Veggie Pho and adding meat as well...simple fix! The jasmine tea is a great touch, too! read more

Good service and clean. Comparing to Los Angeles, one only gets half the amount of bean sprouts, mint leaves, and green pepper. Flavor of the broth can be better, I will rate it as B/B-. Large size Pho is about 10-15% smaller than LA's. read more

Ordered delivery and was disgusted with the pho received. It had uncleaned shrimp- seriously no one wants to eat that. It was a total waste. Broth was weak, had none of the aromatics pho should have. They're lucky they're the only pho restaurant in the area because I can't see people voluntarily returning if there was any better option. read more

Usually the food at this place is great but after my experience today I'll never go back to the Norfolk location. I went there around 12 and the place was packed and the only seat was at the bar. I totally understand that, it's lunch time on a business day in Norfolk. Everywhere is crowded. What I don't understand is several staff members made direct eye contact with me at the bar and I guess nobody felt like serving me. They did have no problem serving the people that sat down at the bar beside me after they sat down after me. After 20 minutes I said screw it and left. I would have given them a one but the Pho I've had in the past is quite good. However it's not worth waiting 20 minutes especially when Alkaline makes way better Ramen dishes. read more

The egg noodle was pretty darn amazing. However, the pho was not up to par. The noodles were soggy and the broth was disgusting. Their Thai tea is pretty good, a little on the milky side. The limeade was yummy! It tasted pretty fresh. I would recommend their spring rolls, egg noodles and limeade. read more

Wish there where more vegan options not counting the spring roll, the staff didn't quite grasp what vegan meant{despite it being in large letters on their specials board}. When I asked if the bubble tea was vegan. I was asked what is Vegan? No one quite seemed to know what the other party was doing, there was a lot of confusion about who got which tea drink. I enjoy coming to Pho 79 periodically for some nice warm Pho and Vietnamese coffee... and sometimes a spring roll or two. They are quick and efficient and yummy. I have usually had great experience there and enjoy going, but just recently had a slightly disappointing experience. The service was a little less professional from what we normally receive (though its a low key place we still expect a little more professionalism) and when I got the charge on my credit card a couple days later, they charged me $2 more than what I put on the receipt post tip. I know its only two dollars, its more the principle of charging me something that I didn't write down as I clearly remember thinking over the tip after the service. I tried to call them today when the charge showed up, but the person I spoke with didn't really give me a solution; they quickly mumbled something and hung up the phone before I could clarify what was said. I will try to call back tonight. Again, we will return I'm sure, this was a one time thing... It is a convenient place to go, we enjoy the food and the prices are excellent... read more

Ordered to go food. Went to pick it up and they said they messed up the order and it would be 3 minutes. We waited for an additional 25 minutes for our food. And we weren't alone. Multiple tables complained they got the wrong order, others were trying to flag down people to order, and the Order Up drivers were lined up 5 deep waiting to pick up their delivery orders. And the place wasn't even completely full. Gets a second star because once we finally got our food, it was tasty. read more

Not premium quality , just average. Their pho broth does not taste deep and the rice noodle tasted rice flavor which is not good. The meat was overcooked. Vietnamese coffee came out already brewed. They did not ask me if I wanted hot or iced. Some places offer both option when it came with the coffee kit. I would not go back. read more

We placed an order over the phone for take out. We double checked everything over the phone with both the menu item number and the name of the dish. Made me wait an extra 15 minutes past what they said on the phone for take out, but while I was in store they said it would only be 5-10 minutes. When I get home, I find out they gave me the completely wrong dish with pork, which I cannot eat. When we called back to say that they not only gave me the wrong meal, but also a meal I cannot eat, they first tried to claim that we ordered the pork dish. Which is ridiculous because none of us eat pork, and we ordered the spring rolls even with no pork so they knew this preference. Then when the woman on the phone finally admitted they were in the wrong, she offered no solution but they'll call us back tomorrow to possibly discuss me getting my money back. Overall horrible customer service, and subpar food when they do get it right. read more

Having visited their Greenbrier location I decided to try this one since it's closer to my house. The food was great but the service could have been better. I ordered hot jasmine tea but the server have me unsweetened iced tea. He brought me the correct one when I asked, no big deal. However I'm glad they keep the napkins at the table because he didn't check on us the rest of the time. We waited about 15 minutes for our check because we weren't sure if he was supposed to bring it or we were supposed to just go to the register when we were ready to pay, so he just decided to go up to pay cause we were ready to go. Other than that the food was delicious. Would definitely come back but hopefully they improve their service just a little. read more

This place satisfied my Vietnamese food craving. The pho here is pretty good - I got the number 9. The fried rolls are pork and shrimp and can't be modified to just shrimp. :/ I did have the fresh spring roll- good though I thought it could have had more flavor inside. I like their food...light, plenty, and extra doesn't cost. The place is clean with plenty parking in the back. I am vegetarian and here there is plenty dishes for vegans and vegetarians. I highly recommend. read more

The waitress is lucky I did not cuss her out. My friend and I visited for a busy lunch that had only one female server. We were looked at but not greeted or seated for a good 3-5 minutes. We finally walked to the bar and asked if we could sit anywhere of which the female waitress rudely grabbed the menus and pointed us in the direction our table was in. She threw down one menu, passed the other to another gentlemen at another table, and spit to us that she would retune with another menu. It took about 5 minutes for that. She asked for our drinks and order of which I ordered a "Vietnamese coffee." She went to get our drinks, came back with my friends beer and two waters and said she'd be right back, that the coffee was being made. We waited for our food for ten minutes. So long that we were wondering where our food was. Our food finally came out to expectation. The guy that brought our food out threw our food on the table a spat a "thank you" to my friend as he walked by. My friends beef skewer meal looked amazing. We ate for another five minutes before I noticed that I never received my coffee. I asked the waitress for it, and she seemed annoyed that I asked for it. She went and fetched me an iced coffee. When I told her I ordered coffee and assumed it would be hot, she rudely corrected me that the coffee is iced and that I never told her hot or cold and "most people order iced." I said "...Well I am not most people and I would like the hot coffee I ordered." She snatched the drink off the table and stormed off. She came back to clean off the table next to us and snapped at me that she "canceled the coffee because it takes too long and you are impatient." I was baffled! My friend in his own shock at how I was just spoken to, quickly asked for a box of which she quickly said she would and fetched our containers. We prepared our meals to go, paid and when I asked for a manager, I was told he was not there. I explained that I had just received the worst service in my life and all the guy said was "I'm sorry about that" in the most insincere manner. I've never experience service like this. I was not being "impatient" having waited almost 20 minutes for my meal and coffee which I never got. Unbelievable visit and I do not recommend this place to anyone. I love this place sometimes a long wait but worth it. The other Pho 79's are not as good to me. I love the blue Hawaiian bubble tea and curry chicken. My favorite!!! Def worth trying read more
