The green curry not pictured was very watery and hardly had any meat inside. The salad I ordered was the highlight. My dining companion had the fried tofu for appetizers that disappeared in 5 seconds. I am presuming it was decent. Parking can be challenging but can be found on the street. Cute place! But food had no flavor. Chicken was tough and extremely dry in my Panang curry. The rice that came with it looked and tasted like it was old, I had to scrape the top because there was an odd grayish texture on top. From the outside the place is inviting with even a sign by the entrance. The decor was very eclectic. I was immediately greeted and seated. While waiting for my friend I was served water. It was lunch hour (until 3pm) so all dishes offered on the lunch menu is $12.99. I ordered the Massamun curry. First, the portion size served wasn't as pictured in the menu. The curry visually had disproportionate protein/veggies ratio to curry broth where it seemed like they served the last serving of the pot with only a few veggies, 3 cubes of potatoes. The peanuts should have been slightly blanched as they were too hard/raw. The beef slices were dry and tough. The rice was very dry, not fluffy and tasted like it was a day old. I loved the addition of carrots to this dish, and the thin cut made the flavor a perfect garnish. So it's date night and we choose. Thai Basil. Not very busy but it's early on a Friday night. The service is really nice and friendly. We ordered an appetizer of pot stickers. Very tasty. Good job. Needed a little help so we added some spice. I ordered a medium heat pad Thai with chicken. Ok medium is pretty good intensity. I love spicy and this is just about close to all I want. The staff is nice and made me laugh, felt like being served by aunties. Ordered: veggie eggrolls: crunchy, perfectly fried, veggies could use some more seasoning, dipping sauce was sweet and tangy pad gra pao: was thinly sliced and not ground as advertised, the flavor tasted more like garlic with brown gravy panang curry: big portion of curry, soup was a little thin but had good portion of chicken and veg, hot and spicy as advertised lard nah: the wide rice noodles were old, as evidenced by the dry texture and broken appearance of the noodles and were not as flavorful as they could be. After living in Hampton Roads for 8 months, we had yet to order Thai Food! Went through Uber Eats to have Thai Basil delivered, after I found it had relatively good ratings compared to other options in the area. I started off with the shrimp summer rolls to accompany my chicken and rice soup, whereas my fiancé ordered the Dan Dan noodles and a Thai iced tea. Thank goodness we had the iced tea - both of us ordered our dishes spicy, and it was beyond anything our palates could handle. The Drunken noodles weren't as oily as other restaurants, which I appreciated, but between that and the soup, our mouths were numb upon first bite. It was rather an unpleasant experience, and we're unfortunately too afraid to dig into our leftovers. The vegetables, just onions and bell peppers, were chopped into large chunks impossible to eat with chopsticks or a fork, forget about getting the "perfect bite". I'm a chili head but this was too much for me, and it was one dimensional, just overloaded with dried chilies. Wow. What a great place to eat. Thai food has grown to be one of my recent food loves and I've eaten at a handful of places from Maryland to here. My favorite dish is the basil fried rice with shrimp and I tend to get it Thai hot and I have to say, this has been my favorite place so far. Being half Filipino, I also loved that they had lumpia on the menu which I got and found to be delicious (not as good as my mom's but second only to that). Reading the other reviews, it is interesting that this place is either a hit or a miss. I tried this place out today and thought it was great. Whenever I try a new Thai restaurant, I always order the Red Curry Chicken and requested it to be Thai hot. The curry was pretty good, it tasted fresh and did not have a lot of bamboo shoots in it. The vegetables were fresh and the heat was a little hotter than what I would get at other Thai restaurants in Norfolk. It seemed pretty obvious that they care about the product that the serve Portion size was good, a little smaller than some of the other places, but enough to fill you up.
