    Beef pho

The Best Pho We've Ever Had - Hidden Gem in Hilo! We eat pho everywhere--from the mainland to different parts of Hawaii--and Pho 99 in Hilo absolutely blew us away. From the outside, it's easy to overlook: a total hole-in-the-wall spot with a modest exterior. But don't be fooled. The moment you step inside, the friendly service and incredible aroma let you know you're in for something special. The broth was hands-down the best we've ever tasted--rich, clear, perfectly seasoned, and deeply comforting. Every bite was packed with flavor and freshness. The meat was tender and high quality, and the noodles had the perfect texture. You can tell they take serious pride in their food here. If you're in Hilo and even thinking about pho, do yourself a favor and stop here. It's one of those rare, unforgettable meals that makes you wish you had discovered it sooner. We'll be talking about this bowl of pho for a long time.

Lovely little Vietnamese restaurant close to farmer's market. Hungry for pork vermicelli bowl so ordered the pork spring roll noodle, by menu number, but got a pork spring roll over tofu vermicelli. I know I ordered correctly and I double checked myself against a could of Yelp photos of same menu item. Oh well. It's was good in my mind I guess.

The service is filled with hospitality as if you are guests at a friend's house. The ambiance is the same with the feeling of visiting a friend down the street. We ordered the Beef Pho which had exactly the savory aromatic flavor you hope for. The extras (Calamansi, Basil, Bean Sprouts, Jalapeño) all tasted fresh and delicious. If you mention you are staying in Hawaii for a while, he also has a cute list of top things to see while you are here. Very friendly and strongly recommended!

We ordered the beef pho noodle soup and a cold noodle salad with a spring roll and Banh mi sandwich. The food was so good that we forgot to take pictures. I apologize for that. They've been living here for 45 years. This location has been open for five years, this is authentic traditional, Vietnamese food. If you come to Hilo, I highly recommend come to try the food. The owner is friendly. He even highlight area that we should check it out. Some gorgeous beaches nearby

Pho 99 is very small restaurant with only 5 tables. It's run by only 2 people but they are very efficient. Hubby and I tried their combo pho and beef stew. Both were so so, but satisfied our Asian food cravings. Portions were huge. They don't have AC so eating hot bowl of soup became little challenging. Only recommend if you have to have Vietnamese food in the area.

Great flavor of the broth definitely one of my favorite pho spots in Hilo. Service was very welcoming and very quick. A very small restaurant that feels like a hidden gem in the heart of downtown Hilo. Definitely recommend!

Not only is the food great but the service was as well. We waited a little bit because it was packed and as we're waiting we got to talking story with an auntie that was also waiting. Long story short she ended up joining us and we had an awesome time! Pho Viet is an awesome place in Hilo. It feels warm and inviting. Everyone was very friendly.

First off, any place my wife wants to go to several times means it must be at the top of the food chain! Pho Viet is located in back of Garden Exchange. Apparently there are two pho places so look for Pho Viet - on the right side. Be careful when walking from Haili street as there are sketchy people hanging out on both sides of the road. (What happened Hilo??). Unfortunately there is hardly any parking so you probably have to walk to the restaurant from away. When you go inside the place is pretty small like 6-8 tables but it's constantly filled with people. They all look like they are enjoying their meal. The lady that runs the place is super nice and lets my wife bring her own "additions" to the pho. The pho is really good and you can choose from the usual choices - flank, beef round, tendon, meatball. The broth is delicious and you can order extra noodles which I did. The chili pepper sauce is really really good but make sure you taste and taste. I made mine a little too spicy and had to add more broth - which they made and gave to me. Excellent!!!!!! After eating the bowl, I felt good. I was stuffed but in a good way. The feeling lasted all night and I never had to eat again for the rest of the day and I slept great ! There was a constant flow of people. I guess everyone knows how good this place is. My brother in law says this place is the best in Hilo. I believe it.

I'm unsure of how she couldn't see the shoyu stains nor the chili sauce on the napkins. It felt very unsanitary. We then placed our orders knowing what we wanted and the food came out surprisingly fast for oxtail PHO. The pho barely had any vegetables inside and when I bit into the oxtail it tasted frozen. The meat was hot but it almost tasted as if it was in the freezer too long. Not to mention the price ($23) for a bowl the size of my two hands! We also tried their rice cake and it wasn't fresh at all! The lady who took our order grabbed it from the refrigerator and hopped it in the microwave for a few seconds and served it to us. I don't think I would ever come back here again, I don't care how nice the waitress was, as a person who loves PHO, I was severely disappointed.

We showed up right when they opened at 5:30 p.m. without reservations on a Wednesday evening and was luckily able to get seated at the bar. Between the two of us, we ordered a bunch of items off the "small" section of the menu, including the smokey sashimi, sizzling tetsuyaki poke, smoked tonnato caesar, crispy rice, and their special of the day -- agedashi wontons. Of the items we ordered, the crispy rice and the agedashi wontons were my favorite items. The crispy rice is priced per piece, and you'll certainly want to order at least two per person, because one is simply not enough. The rice block is fried a beautiful golden brown -- similar to a hash brown. The crispy rice pairs perfectly with the ono mixture on top of it. With the agedashi wontons, I initially thought the filling was a bit under-seasoned at first, but when enjoyed with the broth, the wonton comes out tasting perfectly seasoned. The broth had so much umami to it and the wonton had the perfect crunch to it I always love a good Caesar salad and the one here is spectacular. With anchovy croutons, shaved cured egg yolk, and smoked ahi dressing, you're getting some creative, premium ingredients in this salad and everything works so well together. Even if you're not a salad person, I would definitely recommend giving this dish a try. On top of delicious food, the service at Moon & Turtle was spectacular. Food was promptly brought out after we placed our order, pacing didn't ever feel rushed, our water cups were never empty, and our server checked on us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed without being overbearing. I would definitely stop by Moon & Turtle again if I'm in Hilo.

The reservation system is simple and easy online! We arrived more than fifteen minutes before our reservation time but were seated immediately. Inside decor is cozy and beachy but a little bit higher end with more of a candlelit dim vibe. Service is excellent-- the waitress checked on us constantly to make sure everything was good and clean up finished dishes. Food is family style-- you choose between small plates and large plates. Between the two of us who are smaller eaters, we got 2 small plates, 1 crispy rice which is under small plates but is basically 2 bites, and one large plate, and then a dessert, and we were decently full. Everything is VERY GOOD. The mushroom risotto is so rich and creamy, it has a deep funky cheese flavor and super umami with the mushrooms. The garlic butter belly had a great crispy skin and the sauce was packed with flavor. The crispy rice was a fun bite, the crispiness is perfect and the fishy topping has a nice spicy kick. The radiatori was very rich and very filling and creamy. The pot de creme was also excellent, very rich and creamy as well. Everything is a bit pricey, but definitely worth it for the fancier experience, exceptional flavors, incredible quality, and very good service.
