I was given a recommendation for Pho 99. The place is easy to get to from I-40 if you pay attention. The parking lot is clean and large as it serves a lot of stores in the shopping center. Inside of Pho 99 has a traditional restaurant area and a Karaoke bar. Not sure if the bar was full service as I didn't go into that area and I didn't pay attention to the menu for drinks. I had the quail as an appetizer. It was good. It came out with a lime and some sort of spice seasoning. It was unique and good. For the main dish, I had the P11 - Shank, brisket, tripe and tendon. The flavor was ok. I wish I had been given more cilantro. I love tripe but it seemed to have just a couple of pieces. I am used to having a lot of tendon and tripe. This didn't have a lot of meat. Look, I understand it's a noodle soup. I just was disappointed at the lack of tendon and tripe. I had a French coffee. It was delicious and the caffeine was needed that evening. Price was good. Service was good. I just wish there had been more meat. read more

The food and service are exceptional based on multiple experiences. The pork bahn mi is fantastic if you desire the seasoned strips between the delicate crunch of the baguette. I'm Vietnamese and had high hopes because I love eating at Phó shops. Started off ordering Thai tea with boba, the Thai tea tasted smoky, almost chemically, I assume maybe it was from an old canned Thai Tea or something, and the boba was old, was mush in my mouth. By the time my Pho came out I wasn't feeling the best, but I started eating anyway, when I finally started to enjoy my food I realized there was a bug floating around in it. So at that point I just asked for the check and left. Service was also super slow, felt like an eternity in there. Just want to say that this place is awesome. A co-worker and I were in Knoxville interviewing some candidates for some new sales regions and happened upon this place for lunch. If you know me at all, you know how much I love Asian food and especially, Vietnamese, Thai, and Lao. That being said, I can be critical if the food sucks, but you don't have to worry about that here -- this place is amazing great Bun Bo Hue, great Pho, and apps. Everything we tried was top notch! I will definitely make it a point to come back here when working with my reps. I can't say enough good things about this place. I love an authentic Pho and Pho 99 delivers. I have been here 3 times in the past year for dine-in and once for take-out. The quality is consistent, the menu selections ample and the prices are reasonable. The exterior of the restaurant, located in a strip mall, is non-descript industrial. Once inside, it is quite large, with half of the floor space dedicated to a stage and discotheque which is currently not in use. There are several Pho selections, including beef, chicken, shrimp and vegetarian, which I have tried and it is delicious. Today I tried the Deep Fried Quail as my appetizer and for my entree, Crunchy Birds Nest Noodles with Vegetables. My wife had the vegetable Pho. My quail was a bit too overcooked. The skin leathery, although the marinade was a good flavor and the meat inside was tender. My Birds Nest entree was delicious. The bok choy was fresh, as were the carrots & mushrooms. The noodles were crispy and the sauce in which they were cooked was a delicate sweet vegetable broth. The owners claim that each of their broths simmer for 10 hours before being used in order to enhance the flavors. My wife enjoyed her Veggie Pho with enough leftover for a later snack. The "medium" sized bowl of pho could easily feed two people. As to alcoholic drinks, the restaurant serves only beer. The restroom facilities are not sparkling clean which was a turn-off for me. Since moving to Tennessee, this establishment helped ease the yearning for homestyle Asian fair. It was not phenomenal but very good. However, this has changed. Recently the food quality has been slipping and yesterday I consumed quite possibly the worst Pho I have ever had. Significantly overpriced, the quality of the ingredients that comprise their food is borderline poor. It has no soul, listless and uninspired. I can't believe this took over Lemongrass! I worked at Lemongrass for two weekends for funizes because I always wanted to wait a table and somehow got lucky to pick up a gig. It's been 3 years since I've been back. This is way better than Lemongrass! The owner also owns the nail salon. And you might see common workers! My gal pal noticed it and pointed that out to me. For a white chick, she knows the Asian community of workers quite well. We had a blast at dinner. We asked so many questions and our waiter was quite clueless but that didn't stop us from experimenting! I usually don't give 5 stars unless it's the best I've ever had but this was quite the experience. It might be due to the group I was with. They are a ball of fun and I regret not spending more time with them now that I won't get the chance to anymore. They say you will only miss something when it's gone. Quite true. In terms of drinks, we shared: Okinawa, Hokkaido, Nagasaki, Strawberry Latte, Durian smoothie and the Strawberry smoothie. That's a lot of drinks right? Well they wanted alochol and that wasn't available so we went ham on drinks. I honestly loved them all. It was all so different. My all time favorite was the durian because where in the world can I find that?! The first 3 milk teas were also very different. A good different. They are all different types of milk tea - which is exactly how the waiter was trying to explain it. It's not easy and we finally understand. They all have a distinct taste but it's very hard to characterize. We also ordered the vegetarian summer roll to share and each had a bowl of pho. The bowls are huge and the broth was great. It wasn't like other pho's I've had where I felt like it was just a lump of noodles with a sprinkle of random ingredients for substance. My shrimp pho in the veggie broth was actually quite addicting. There is no way one person can finish the medium size at one seating. I barely touched it after 3 bites. Maybe we got full off all the drinks and the summer roll? Overall, I don't recall ever enjoying a bowl of pho so much until I had this one. They weren't cheap on the shrimp either so that's a huge plus. I could tell the shrimp was fresh which really makes a huge difference. They are spread out so you can have some privacy or have a big party needless to say. their food is very authentic so if you're not into Vietnamese food or if you haven't researched their cousin along with taste then definitely be prepared for a new adventure! The staff is pretty pleasing except for 1 server that I saw get a little feisty with some guests but I couldn't say I was mad at him due to the situation. overall this is a great location and great authentic food that is light on the stomach and healthy for the soul! This place is a HOME RUN! There is no ambiance and it is like eating in a conference hall. However, the large space and limited warmth is made up in the delicious food! The menu has a fantastic variety of dishes. I tried the shrimp spring roll as an appetizer. They were fresh, crisp, nice presentation and they came with a lot of peanut sauce for dipping. So many places give you a tiny condiment dish and you can't even get the roll in it! So congratulations for making the dipping experience legit and the sauce was so creamy and flavorful as well!! I then ordered the pork Banh Mi. The bread was fresh, crusty on the outside and moist on the inside. The pork was marinated too perfection but I do wish there was more in the sandwich!!! The veggies were nicely chopped so you could eat them with one bite and added great color and crunch to the sandwich. I forgot to ask for hot peppers so next time I will. The waitress was excellent! We've eaten here 2-3 times. Loved the pho in winter. Today I had a banh-mi sandwich (chicken) which was very tasty. The bread was so good...crunchy on the outside and soft/tasty inside. I do wish they had a lunch menu (I think ALL restaurants should). The place is very spacious and with full bar, which is always a nice addition in ethnic restaurants of this sort. The only thing I would change about our order would be to get a *large* bowl of pho to have extra leftovers. As a native Vietnamese from California, I tend to be picky when it comes to pho and Vietnam's traditional dishes. The pho broth can challenge some of the best viet restaurants in Atlanta. The service is fast and the portion is big. I eat alot and the medium bowl filled me up. Price is reasonable around 10$ per person. The bathroom is extremely clean and the decorations are tasteful. We were caught in a storm so randomly get in to this place. Had the best pho I have ever had in the states.

Got the sirloin/brisket pho and the shrimp spring rolls.... The pho broth was very watered down and not flavorful at all. There were like 5 super thin slices of meat. Half of which has huge fat caps. There was no cilantro in the bowl or on the side. The spring rolls were all busted open and more of a salad than a spring roll. The peanut sauce and the "spring rolls" smelled and tasted burnt so I couldn't eat them. (they're supposed to be fresh so I don't understand how they were burnt) All in all, pretty disappointed and still hungry read more

Without a doubt, my favorite pho place in Knoxville. Huge portions, great price, sweet broth that'll leave you full and satisfied. The meats and vegetables always taste fresh. I've been coming here for the past four years as a student and its certainly one thing I'll miss as I leave Knoxville. As a college student coming from a Vietnamese family, this is my to-go Vietnamese restaurant whenever I feel homesick.
